Court day.

At last the day arrived to have our case heard in court about the accident last December. My friend, Andrzej, agreed to go with me and tell the prosecutor I did not speak Polish and would need a translator. Previously he told me to write to the court and inform them about a translator which I did.

We walked the 8 blocks to the court and got there earlier than our 12:00 appointed time. A short time after we were there the young man who caused the accident arrived alone. We greeted each other and sat down to wait for our time. A few minutes later the young man's lawyer appeared and then a young woman was also listed as a witness. I had no idea who she was because it was a man who was a witness of the time of the accident and called the police. Our names were called and we went into the small court room where there was a female prosecutor sitting behind the judges bench and next to her a woman putting everything said into a computer. It was then the young woman said she was an official translator for me and would relate what I said to the prosecutor. First, the prosecutor wanted to hear the young man's story and said I had to leave the room because she didn't want what he said to influence my testimony. Outside the room we waited for 20 minutes and as the young man and his lawyer walked out, we were called back in. To my surprise the prosecutor said the young man confirmed everything I had said, admitted the accident was his fault and agreed to whatever punishment the prosecutor would give him. Then she thanked me for coming to court, the case was closed and I could leave.  Outside the young man was waiting, apologized for causing the accident and we shook hands. I told him I was happy it was over and that nobody was hurt as a result of the accident. With a sigh of relief I did that and called Joan to tell her what happened.

Przeszliśmy  obok 8. budynków do sądu i byliśmy tam wcześniej niż o 12:00 czyli przed wyznaczonym czasem spotkania.
