Because, since its inception there have been quite a number of egregious crimes<br />concerning Uber. From drivers beating up customers, to drivers driving erratically,<br />to a very recent news story of a teenager girl stabbing an Uber driver to death.<br /><br />Here's a link to a 2014 article on this very topic:<br /><br />http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Risky-Ride-Uber-Investigation-256604571.html (needless to say, much more has<br />gone on, to ad to the controversy-- another recent release has to do with rampant sexism re: male management toward Uber company women employees).<br /><br />I know a man who works for Uber who told me upfront how "easy" (no real vetting or oversight) the hiring process is.
