Great day.

Last day of the quarter finals and the match between Iceland and France. The winner will play Germany since they won last night. With our Polish team out of play, we are hoping for an Iceland victory. If they could possible win the championship, that would make quite a story for a movie and one of their part-time players just happens to be a movie director.

We had a fantastic afternoon on a day of perfect weather, sunny with puffy clouds, 26c and a slight breeze. I didn't want to just go to the rynek today and watch people so we went to the Opera house, parked the car and started walking toward the rynek with the idea of taking pictures of interesting buildings and things along the way. We walked down Fredry street passed the university where we took our first group Polish lessons and just past there is a Roman Catholic church that use to have mass in English on Saturday nights. Because it was Sunday, it was open so I went in and took the pictures you can see in the new slideshow to the right.

From there we continued toward the rynek taking pictures of some of the interesting buildings along the way until we reached Plac Wolno艣ci. I took three pictures of it and the third picture I positioned the Bazar building in the center background of it. It is a famous building in Pozna艅 because it is where Paderewski gave his first speech when Poland become an official country again after disappearing from maps for 125 years thanks to Prussia, Austria and Russia.

When we finally reached the rynek we did stop for a cold coffee, sat for a little while and then continued on to the Fara Church on 艢wi臋tos艂awska street. We've been their many times and only went in that direction to turn left to Plac Kolegiacki because Marta told us about the Hotel Kolegacki. She said they had a good restaurant and a nice eating place outside on top of the building with a view of the city. We just wanted to check it out. I was thinking of a special place to take Joan to celebrate our wedding anniversary next month.

After that we started the walk back to our car and were surprised to see the restored 1956 Ford Mustang parked on the street as we passed by. It brought back a lot of memories for Joan and I of one I had.  The last interesting building on the way back was the renovated round building that stood empty for years since we moved here. Now it looks great.

This past week my blog has been translated into Polish by a lady I have know for only a short time but graciously gave her time to do this while Alina was unable and so I want to say thanks to you Ma艂gorzata.

Ostatni dzie艅 膰wier膰fina艂贸w - mecz Islandia-Finlandia. Zwyci臋zca zagra z Niemcami, kt贸rzy wygrali wczoraj. Po odpadni臋ciu Polski, wierzymy w islandzkie zwyci臋stwo. Je艣liby uda艂o im si臋 zdoby膰 mistrzostwo, by艂aby to historia godna filmu, zreszt膮 jeden z niepe艂noetatowych graczy islandzkich jest re偶yserem filmowym.

Popo艂udnie by艂o fantastyczne - doskona艂a pogoda, pierzaste chmurki, 26 stopni, delikatny wiatr. Nie chcia艂em i艣膰 po prostu na Stary Rynek dzisiaj i patrze膰 na ludzi, wi臋c pojechali艣my pod Oper臋. Zaparkowali艣my i przespacerowali艣my si臋 w stron臋 Rynku z za艂o偶eniem, 偶e b臋dziemy fotografowa膰 ciekawe budynki po drodze. Poszli艣my ulic膮 Fredry, min臋li艣my Uniwersytet, gdzie mieli艣my pierwsze, grupowe lekcje polskiego. Zaraz obok jest rzymskokatolicki ko艣ci贸艂, w kt贸rym odprawiane s膮, w sobotnie wieczory, msze w j臋zyku angielskim. Poniewa偶 ko艣ci贸艂 by艂 otwarty, wszed艂em i zrobi艂em zdj臋cia, kt贸re mo偶ecie obejrze膰 po prawej stronie ekranu.

Szli艣my dalej w stron臋 Rynku, ca艂膮 drog臋 fotografuj膮c mijane, ciekawe budynki a偶 doszli艣my do Placu Wolno艣ci. Zrobi艂em tam trzy zdj臋cia. Na trzecim, w centralnym punkcie t艂a, znajduje si臋 budynek Bazaru. To s艂awny budynek w Poznaniu, poniewa偶 Paderewski mia艂 w nim pierwsz膮 przemow臋, gdy Polska ponownie sta艂a si臋 oficjalnym pa艅stwem, po 125 latach nieobecno艣ci na mapach dzi臋ki Prusom, Austrii i Rosji.

Kiedy w ko艅cu dotarli艣my do Rynku, zatrzymali艣my si臋 na mro偶on膮 kaw臋, usiedli艣my na chwil臋, a nast臋pnie udali艣my w stron臋 ko艣cio艂a farnego na ulic臋 艢wi臋tos艂awsk膮. By艂em tam ju偶 wiele razy, wi臋c poszli艣my w tym kierunku by skr臋ci膰 w lewo, w stron臋 Placu Kolegiackiego, poniewa偶 Marta powiedzia艂a nam o Hotelu Kolegiackim. Powiedzia艂a, 偶e jest tam dobra restauracja i przyjemne miejsce by zje艣膰, znajduj膮ce si臋 na dworze, na szczycie budynku, z widokiem na miasto. Chcieli艣my to sprawdzi膰. My艣la艂em o  jakim艣 specjalnym miejscu, dok膮d m贸g艂bym zabra膰 Joan w zwi膮zku z nasz膮 rocznic膮 艣lubu w przysz艂ym miesi膮cu.

Potem rozpocz臋li艣my w臋dr贸wk臋 z powrotem do samochodu i zaskoczy艂 nas odnowiony Ford Mustang z 1956 roku zaparkowany na ulicy, kt贸r膮 mijali艣my. Wr贸ci艂o wiele wspomnie艅 Joan i moich. Ostatnim interesuj膮cym budynkiem w drodze powrotnej by艂 odnowiony okr膮g艂y budynek, kt贸ry sta艂 pusty przez lata, od kiedy si臋 tu sprowadzili艣my. Teraz wygl膮da 艣wietnie.

W tym tygodniu m贸j blog by艂 t艂umaczony na polski przez pani膮, kt贸r膮 znam kr贸tko, a kt贸ra po艣wi臋ci艂a sw贸j czas, by to robi膰, w zwi膮zku z tym, 偶e Alina nie mog艂a. Dzi臋kuj臋 Ma艂gorzato.
