World Cup

Well, half-time in the match between Poland and Japan and the score is 0-0. How thrilling!. Not that it matters because Poland became the first European team eliminated from the 2018 World Cup when they lost to Columbia last Sunday. This is the third consecutive World Cup they've gone out at the group level stage(also 2002 and 2006). The biggest shocker of the tournament so far is that Germany has also be eliminated by losing to Mexico and South Korea. I think Germany would correct the problem before the next World Cup, Poland will just accept it as the way things are. P.S. Poland eventually won the match 1-0 against Japan.

Stash came over today and we talked about the World Cup. His wife is a big fan but he could care less about the game. He spent the time outdoors chopping wood  for his fireplace this winter.

The mailman paid us a visit today and made us very happy. He brought us our tax return money and put it into our hands. It is enough for the next 5 weeks of food.

Dzisiaj przyszedł Stash  i rozmawialiśmy o Pucharze Świata. Jego żona jest wielkim fanem, ale on mógł mniej przejmować się grą. Spędził ten czas na zewnątrz, rąbiąc drewno do kominka na tą zimę.

Listonosz złożył nam dziś wizytę i bardzo nas uszczęśliwił. Przyniósł nam zwrot pieniędzy z podatku i oddał je w nasze ręce. Wystarczy ich na zakup jedzenia na następne 5 tygodni.

The Silver Lining.

Yesterday's trip to the doctor using national health care could have easily moved me to the dark side, complaining to everyone about it's inefficiencies.  I could have chosen the same doctor but privately and paid around 3-400 PLN for everything. However, I took my Spanish study book, knowing a meeting at 17:00 would surely be a busy time, and used the wait time to improve my Spanish.

A problem with the waiting area is there is no visible way of knowing who is next in line and no nurse to tell you. For a Polish speaker you just ask everyone what time their appointment is for and then you know where you belong in the line. Nevertheless, occasionally there is someone who comes later and when the doctor's door opens, they just rush in ahead of everyone else. I've never see a person who was REALLY next make an objection, they just accept what has happened and wait.

In an orthopedic office, if there are 4 people ahead of you, 3 have been seen by the doctor but they need an x-ray and leave and the 4th person goes in, you think you are next. However, if just before your time to go in they return, you have to again wait for the doctor to see all three of those people again. That is what happened yesterday and why it took 2 1/2 hours.

Instead of complaining I was able to learn how to use verbs in the future tense in Spanish so it was not wasted time for me. I had a good 2 hours of study time but there were some unhappy people still waiting from 18:00 when I was done at 19:15.

Earlier today I hobbled my way to Radeks's house where he told me  about his latest weekend of dancing Tango, this time in Wilno. It was an international event with people from the Eastern bloc countries as well as Argentina, Germany and Russia. They dance Friday night, Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening and have parties afterwards. He always has interesting stories to tell about the people hemmets there. Usually he goes with a group of 4-6 people from Poznan. After that we studied Spanish for an hours.

Wczorajsze wyjście do lekarza w ramach NFZ mógłby z łatwością przenieść mnie na ciemną stronę, narzekając do wszystkich, jakie to jest nieefektywne. Mogłem wybrać tego samego lekarza, ale prywatnie płacąc za wszystko około 300-400 PLN. Wiedząc, że wizyta jest o 17:00 i że z pewnością będzie to wytężony czas, wziąłem mój podręcznik do hiszpańskiego i wykorzystałem czas oczekiwania, aby szlifować mój hiszpański.

Problem w poczekalni jest taki, że nie ma zauważalnych oznak, by stwierdzić, kto jest następny w kolejce i nie ma pielęgniarki, która mogłaby ci to powiedzieć. Osoba mówiąca po polsku po prostu pyta każdego, na którą godzinę jest umówiony i wiesz, który jesteś w kolejce. Czasami jednak przychodzi ktoś, kto się spóźnił, a kiedy otwierają się drzwi do lekarza, po prostu wdziera się przed wszystkimi innymi. Nigdy nie widziałem osoby, która jest naprawdę następna w kolejce, aby zgłaszała zastrzeżenia, po prostu akceptuje to, co się stało i czeka.

Jeśli przed gabinetem ortopedycznym są przed tobą  4 osoby i 3 zostały przyjęte przez lekarza, ale potrzebują prześwietlenia i idą to zrobić, to czwarta osoba wchodzi i myślisz, że jesteś następny. Jeśli jednak oni  wracają tuż przed Twoim wejściem do gabinetu, trzeba jeszcze raz poczekać, aż lekarz ponownie wszystkich przyjmie. Tak było wczoraj i dlaczego zajęło to 2,5 godziny
.
Zamiast narzekać, mogłem nauczyć się jak używać czasowników w czasie przyszłym w języku hiszpańskim, więc nie był to dla mnie czas zmarnowany. Miałem dobre 2 godziny nauki, a kiedy zakończyłem wizytę u lekarza o 19:15, w poczekali nadal byli ludzie, którzy czekali od 18:00.

Tego dnia tyle, że wcześniej,  pokuśtykałem do domu Radka, który opowiedział mi o swoim ostatnim weekendzie z tangiem, tym razem w Wilnie. Było to międzynarodowe wydarzenie z udziałem osób z krajów bloku wschodniego, a także Argentyny, Niemiec i Rosji. Tańczyli przez piątkową noc, sobotę, niedzielę po południu i wieczorem, a potem mieli spotkania. Radek zawsze ma ciekawe historie do opowiadania o ludziach, których spotyka. Zwykle wyjeżdża z grupą 4-6 osób z Poznania.
 Potem przez godzinę uczyliśmy się hiszpańskiego.

I spent 2 1/2 hours waiting for the doctor and x-rays to find out nothing is broken, only badly sprained. It was all on NFZ so I paid no money except for the prescribed creams to bring the swelling down. He said it would take 2 weeks to heal.

We resumed studying Spanish after a 2 day break, Joan in her "Easy Spanish" and I in "Advanced Concepts".

Now the newlyweds, Marcin and Anita,  are honeymooning in the Grand Canary Islands.

Spędziłem 2 1/2 godziny czekając na lekarza i prześwietlenia, aby się dowiedzieć, że nic nie jest złamane, tylko mocno skręcone. Wszystko w ramach NFZ, więc nie zapłaciłem żadnych pieniędzy, z wyjątkiem przepisanych kremów, żeby zmniejszyć obrzęk. Powiedział, że to zajmie 2 tygodnie.

Not a good ending.

Well, the wedding didn't exactly end well for Joan and I. We went back to our hotel and there were 3 stairs leading up to the bedroom with NO hand rail. As Joan reached the top stair she started falling backwards and before I could stop her she knocked me over also and we fell to the floor. She landed on top of the ankle of my right foot and it is badly swollen since then. I am not able to easily walk on that foot and  I hope to be able to see a doctor tomorrow to see if it is cracked, broken or just badly sprained.

Cóż, ślub nie zakończył się dobrze dla Joan i mnie. Wróciliśmy do naszego hotelu, a tam były 3 schody bez poręczy prowadzące do sypialni. Gdy Joan dotarła do najwyższego stopnia, zaczęła spadać do tyłu i zanim zdążyłem ją powstrzymać, przewróciła mnie i padliśmy na podłogę. Wylądowała na kostce mojej prawej stopy, która od tego czasu jest mocno spuchnięta. Nie jestem w stanie z łatwością chodzić na tej stopie i mam nadzieję, że jutro będę mógł spotkać się z lekarzem, aby zobaczyć czy jest pęknięta, złamana czy po prostu skręcona.

MARRIED.

The above picture is where the wedding took place of cousin Marcin Kupiński to Anita Nawrocka. It was a beautiful civil ceremony outdoors with the reception held in the building next to it. The weather was perfect for wearing a suit. Joan wore a sleeveless dress with a jacket.

The first dance by the newly weds was done to the music of "You ain't nothin' but a hound dog", by Elvis Presley. They did a great job dancing to that music. I made a  video of it.

We were seated at table #9 with 6 other people we did not know, all Polish speakers except one who spoke enough English to get by. At first I thought it was going to be awkward but as the night went on, and the vodka, it got better and better. In then end, communications were no problem.

I had the chance to see a few cousins I hadn't seen in some time. In fact, one of the them, the last time I saw him he was 9 years old and now he is 20. However, he remembered us very well and we had a good reunion.

The food served was more than abundant and then there were the desserts. That was followed by drinks of Nalewka of many different varieties made by the bride's brother. We drank way more than we ever do but in the end we were both standing.

Pierwszy taniec nowożeńców został wykonany z muzyką "You are not nothin ', ale pies gończy", Elvisa Presleya. Świetnie się spisali, tańcząc w tej muzyce. Zrobiłem film z tego.

Siedzieliśmy przy stole nr 9 z 6 innymi osobami, których nie znaliśmy, wszyscy polscy mówcy, z wyjątkiem jednego, który mówił wystarczająco dobrze po angielsku, żeby się dogadać. Początkowo myślałem, że będzie to niezręczne, ale w miarę upływu nocy i wódki było coraz lepiej. W końcu komunikacja nie stanowiła problemu.

Miałem okazję zobaczyć kilku kuzynów, których nie widziałem od jakiegoś czasu. W rzeczywistości, jeden z nich, kiedy widziałem go po raz ostatni, miał 9 lat, a teraz ma 20 lat. Jednak bardzo dobrze nas pamiętał i dobrze się zjednoczyliśmy.

Serwowane jedzenie było obfite, a na deser nie było deserów. Następnie podano napoje z Nalewki z wielu różnych odmian wykonanych przez Brides Brides. Piliśmy dużo więcej niż kiedykolwiek, ale w końcu oboje byliśmy.

1 Day to go.

I had a nice conversation with Pablo from Spain at 11:00 and before that the administrator was here with the repairman to asses the potential repair of the balcony. He was a different one from last year. Eventually the administrator is going to run out of new repairmen. This is the 6th one in 6 years.

The weather has certainly changed on this second day of summer. Yesterday it was 35c and today it is 18c. I am not complaining, it is fine with me. Good weather for a wedding. Hard to believe that Marcin is getting married. The youngest of 2 children, I thought his sister would be the first. However, she is happy with the relationship she is in and that is what matters. It will be good to see her and her boyfriend once again.

For a brief moment the news was on our TV screen today, long enough to see Orange Head's wife wearing a jacket say "I don't really care, do you"? I immediately thought of the children being separated from their parents but the spin doctors said it was about "fake news". Whether it was or wasn't, this was not the time to do such a thing.

Miałem fajną rozmowę z Pablo z Hiszpanii o 11:00, a wcześniej był tu administrator z mechanikiem, który ocenia potencjalną naprawę balkonu. Był inny niż w zeszłym roku. W końcu administratorowi zabraknie nowych mechaników. Jest to 6. od 6 lat.

Przez krótką chwilę wiadomości były na naszym ekranie telewizyjnym dzisiaj, wystarczająco długo, by zobaczyć żonę Pomarańczowej Głowy w kurtce powiedzieć "nie obchodzi mnie to, prawda?". Od razu pomyślałem o oddzieleniu dzieci od ich rodziców, ale spinowi lekarze powiedzieli, że chodzi o "fałszywe wiadomości". Niezależnie od tego, czy tak było, czy nie, nie był to odpowiedni czas na zrobienie czegoś takiego.

 Tuve una agradable conversación con Pablo desde España a las 11:00 y antes el administrador estaba aquí con el técnico para evaluar la posible reparación del balcón. Él era diferente al año pasado. Eventualmente el administrador se quedará sin nuevos reparadores. Este es el sexto en 6 años.

El clima ciertamente ha cambiado en este segundo día de verano. Ayer fue 35c y hoy es 18c. No me quejo, está bien conmigo. Buen clima para una boda. Es difícil de creer que Marcin se case. El más joven de 2 hijos, pensé que su hermana sería la primera. Sin embargo, ella está contenta con la relación en la que se encuentra y eso es lo que importa. Será bueno verla a ella y a su novio una vez más.

ONCE AGAIN!!

I mailed out the application for the IDL today and now just wait for it's return. I should have it back by August 1st. when my current one expires.

The day started out hot, 35c but in the afternoon a cold front moved in and now it is 22c. It is suppose to be 18c for the weekend and that is good because I will wear a suit for the wedding and don't want it to be hot. The place of the wedding mat be air conditioned but you cannot count on that in Poland, especially in older buildings.

A surprise phone call from the building administrator today to ask if she could come to our flat Friday morning with a repairman. It seems that, once again, for the 6th year in a row our balcony is leaking water when it rains into the flat below us. They have repaired it 6 times and still they cannot get it right.

 Wysłałem dzisiaj wniosek o IDL, a teraz po prostu czekam na jego powrót. Powinienem to mieć do 1 sierpnia. kiedy mój obecny wygasa.

Dzień zaczął się gorąco, 35c, ale po południu wprowadził się zimny front, a teraz jest 22c. Na weekend ma być 18c i to dobrze, ponieważ będę nosić garnitur na wesele i nie chcę, żeby było gorąco. El día comenzó caliente, 35c pero por la tarde se movió un frente frío y ahora es 22c. Se supone que es 18c para el fin de semana y eso es bueno porque llevaré un traje para la boda y no quiero que esté caliente. El lugar de la estera de boda tiene aire acondicionado, pero no puede contar con eso en Polonia, especialmente en edificios más antiguos.

Una llamada sorpresa del administrador del edificio hoy para preguntar si podría ir a nuestro departamento el viernes por la mañana con un técnico. Started off the day with a nice conversation in Spanish with the lady from Warsaw and after that I went to have my picture taken for my International Drivers License. Actually, I had 6 copies made because I have to send in 2 with the IDL application and I will need 4 for my Polish citizenship application when I can finally apply for it. Karen sent the documents to us this week so I hope it won't be too long before I can go to the Birth Registry office. That is the first step in the process.

I had to wait 15 minutes for the photos and since the place is close to the rynek, I went there for a Cafe Mrozona while I was waiting. The waitress was surprised it was only me and she asked where my wife was. I told her that Joan was home writing the shopping list for tomorrow.

On the way back I stopped at cousin Maciej and Violetta's new businees to see how it was coming along. We talked for about 45 minutes.

Upon returning home, Joan and I went for a long walk around the neighborhood. Now she is preparing a Cobb salad for dinner.

 Comencé el día con una agradable conversación en español con la señora de Varsovia y después fui a tomarme una foto para obtener mi licencia de conducir internacional. En realidad, hice 6 copias porque tengo que enviar 2 con la aplicación IDL y necesitaré 4 para mi solicitud de ciudadanía polaca cuando finalmente pueda solicitarla. It's done.

Well, I had the haircut today at Le Grande by Marco. Not quite as good as Enrique but still good in the eyes of Joan so it's good for me also. It took 45 minutes for the hair and about 20 minutes for the beard, mustache and eyebrows. He didn't speak English but the picture I showed him told him everything I expected and he did a good job I think. I was satisfied enough to make another appointment for the end of July.

At 17:00 Joan and I watched the match between Poland and Senegal. I'm sorry but I just cannot get too excited about European football. We watched the match ONLY because it was Poland playing. Watching 2 teams of men running back and forth for 90 minutes across a field in hopes of scoring 1 point just does not do it for me, especially when they don't.

It makes me sick what is happening in the U.S. with the children being torn away from parents and put into detention centers in Texas.This is not the country I grew up in and I put the blame squarely on the shoulders of one man. However, he could not accomplish what he has in the last 17 months if he didn't have the support of millions of Americans who go along with his ideas. That is the sadness of America now. I very much dislike using this blog for political things but this latest outrage is more than disturbing to me. I do not understand why the "other" Americans, opposed to this, are not standing up against it and stopping it. Who is really pulling the strings of this puppet?

It was another warm day, 28c with partly cloudy skies and we stayed home the whole day studying and not doing much else. Joan is in the kitchen preparing dinner for tonight, chicken stew.

Tomorrow I meet with Radek, then go to Le Grande for the beard and haircut, followed by the doctor appt. for Joan where she will have her blood test results analyzed. We have them already thanks to the internet.

During yesterdays Skype with Joan's daughter, Karen, she said she now has our documents returned and will mail them out to us. Once we receive them I can go to the Birth Registry office to record my birth in preparation to apply for citizenship IF they need no further documents. I hope not.

Robi mi się niedobrze, co dzieje się w Stanach Zjednoczonych, kiedy dzieci są odrywane od rodziców i umieszczane w ośrodkach przetrzymywania w Teksasie. To nie jest kraj, w którym dorastałem i winę za to postawiłem prosto na ramiona jednego mężczyzny. 2018 Summer Botanical Garden

A beautiful day for a walk in our botanical gardens so we went at 12:30 and spent about 2 hours there looking at all the flowers and trees. It always a joy to go there. The last couple of years we have gone too early to see everything in bloom but not this year.

The central part of the garden is a rose garden with roses of many different colors and shades. I really need a lens that takes better close-ups but it will have to wait. Other things have a higher priority now. I took about 70 pictures, all viewable on this blog.

I made the decision to go to Le Grande Hair Salon on Tuesday at 13:00 to get my hair and beard cut. I will take a picture with me of how it looked after the cut by Enrique in Spain. This will give the hair stylist, Marco, the exact picture of what I expect. IF he succeeds in duplicating the cut I will be happy but the cost is still too high. The next time I will go to the lady who charges 30 PLN and see if she can do the same thing. If she can, she will have my business until I return to Spain.

Now they are building an new sidewalk on the east side our neighborhood that will connect Strzeszyn Grecji with Strzeszyn. It is a big project and I suppose it will take a year or more to complete. I will take some pictures this weekend.

I was contacted by Peter Alter of  the Chicago History Museum who found my blog and an article about  me stating that I once lived in suburban Itasca.  He is working on on a Poles in Chicago Project. In this new initiative, he has four Polish American high school students who are bilingual and receiving oral history training.

Now, they are conducting oral history interviews to document Polish immigrants and Polish Americans in the Chicago area, and they will do the same in Warsaw at the end of next month. They are working with the Polish History Museum (Warsaw) when they visit there.  

He wondering if there is a community of people like Joan and I in Poznań who have moved here to retire and have Polish American ancestral roots. He would very much be interested in talking with us and anyone who has a similar experience and lives in Poland now. I wrote we would be happy to talk with them but only in Poznań. We would not travel to Warsaw,

New record.

We have set a new shopping record, 181 PLN this week. However, it is mainly due to buying 2 new light bulbs (20PLN) and 2 salmon fillets(18 PLN) that the cost is so high. These are not normal weekly purchases. Without them the cost would have been 143 PLN. Thursday morning is a good time for shopping. Most people are in work so the store has few customers and there are no lines for checkout.

The hydrangea's  in the front of our building are starting to blossom now. They look so good every year with their different colors.

Dilemma.

Thinking about yesterdays trip to the doctor I couldn't help but say how different it is here in Poland. In America, the first thing during a doctor visit is the nurse takes your blood pressure, weight and temperature. Here, doctors, in general, do not have nurses. The patient has to take his own blood pressure, weight and temperature and give it to the doctor. X-rays, blood test results or other extra examination results are also kept by the patient. The only thing that is the same is the terrible handwriting of all doctors. It is almost impossible to read, either here or in the U.S.

This morning I had a nice hour long conversation with Carmelo in Spain. He said summer is already there with a temperature of 34c today. That is too hot for me. I am happy with our 25c today.

I have 2 recommendations of barbers here, one charges 30PLN for hair and beard and the other charges 100 PLN.The first is a single operator and the second works in a salon. I really miss my barber in Spain and am tempted to just let my hair grow until next January but I will surely look like a real Santa Claus by then. Also, there is Marcin's wedding on the 23rd and I want to look good for that. My fear is that neither of these 2 barbers will do as good a job cutting my hair and beard as Enrique did. What a dilemma!

Myśląc o wczorajszej wycieczce do lekarza, nie mogłem oprzeć się wrażeniu, że jest inaczej w Polsce. W Ameryce pierwszą rzeczą podczas wizyty lekarskiej pielęgniarka bierze ciśnienie krwi, wagę i temperaturę. Tutaj lekarze w ogóle nie mają pielęgniarek. Another meeting with Radek this afternoon discussing politics, travels and the on to Spanish lessons. I stumbled on one verb conjugation and felt like a complete idiot because I knew it yet my mind was blank at the moment I needed it. I hate it when that happens. It just shows me I haven't really absorbed it yet.

My son's partner, Amy, told me she has the ashes now of him but has yet to go to the Bay to spread them as per his wishes. Her youngest son has returned from Florida and is helping her get through this difficult time.

Here, the weather has been good for many days, sunny most of the time and life goes on. I picked up our prescriptions for the month, 8 prescriptions for a total of $43(155PLN)(37EURO).

Joan's California Spaghetti Salad and our tickets for Al Di Meola, What a good day it is. The salad is good but I would change the dressing to a sour cream and French's Ranch dressing instead. Italian dressing isn't my favorite.

A short FB chat today with a cousin from California who is planning a trip to Europe in October, She doesn't know where yet so I gave her a few suggestions including Poznań. I've never met her, face to face, so it would be nice to do so. She is from the Rajewski side of the family.

We met with the young lady downstairs who is now our general doctor to get prescriptions filled and to see if she would get Joan into an outpatient rehab for her balance problem. The girl looks like she is in her late 20's.  Before she will do it, Joan has to have a blood test on Tuesday. If everything is alright, the "doctor" will give her a recommendation for rehab.

Sunday, the day of rest, and so we did. A cloudy day so it was only 28c and a nice little breeze through our flat. I studied a little while Joan prepared dinner and we watched a few old movies.

Progress?

"Progress is our Most Important Progress"! I grew up in America with this motto  continually pushed into my brain. I saw it happening with better and bigger homes, better and bigger cars, more kinds of food in stores, new shopping centers(Malls), but I grew up in a project and my mother couldn't affor a car, a home, better food. I watched it all on our little television. I wasn't aware of the cost to the environment of our forests, oceans, lakes and rivers until years later. the first time I saw an actual clean river I was 22 years old when my brother took me fishing to Michigan. We stopped by a stream and I looked into it and told him it looked rusty. He told me that was the sand at the bottom. I could actually see the bottom. At home, the rivers were either brown or green and you never saw the bottom. I became an environmentalist........and still am.

That is why it pains me to see what is happening to those two, once beautiful fields as you enter our apartment complex. They have been sold, torn apart and new flats are being built on both of them. On the right side they began 2 years ago and now the left side has just begun construction. In a year or two those fields will just be a memory. It is happening in many places around Poznañ now. Soon what were once green areas will be all concrete.  The only safe haven is to own several hectares of land but who can afford that?

"Postęp jest naszym najważniejszym postępem"! Dorastałem w Ameryce z tym mottem nieustannie wciskanym w mój mózg. Just a short one today. I had breakfast with Radek as we watched our favorite Golden State Warriors win game 3 over Cleveland 110-102. They just have to win 1 out of the next 4 games to be the NBA champions again.

Joan and I went food shopping after that for the week, cost 171 PLN.

Hoy solo una entrada corta. Desayuné con Radek, cuando vimos a nuestros Golden State Warriors favoritos ganar el 3er partido con Cleveland marcando 110-102. Deben ganar 1 de 4 juegos consecutivos para volver a ganar el campeonato de la NBA.
 
Luego, Joan y yo fuimos de compras por una semana, costaron 171 PLN.

Santa-fRIDAY, jUNE 8

 I have to get my hair and mustache cut for the wedding of my cousin on the 23rd. I have not had them cut since I came back from Spain and I'm starting to look like Santa Claus.

Early in the day, 8:00 am, I had a conversation with you. She said I look like I lost some weight but I do not really know what to do in the house. It was another nice day so we had to walk around the neighborhood. Tomorrow morning I will finally restart my conversations with Carmelo, my friend in Spain. I've not been talking with him and practicing speaking in Spanish.

Muszę wziąć moje włosy i wąsy na ślub mojego kuzyna w dniu 23. Nie miałem ich od czasu, gdy wróciłem z Hiszpanii i zaczynam wyglądać jak Święty Mikołaj.

Na początku dnia, o 8:00, rozmawiałem z tobą. Powiedziała, że wyglądam, jakbym straciła na wadze, ale tak naprawdę nie wiem, co robić w domu. To był kolejny miły dzień, więc musieliśmy spacerować po okolicy. Jutro rano ponownie rozpoczynam rozmowy z Carmelo, moim przyjacielem w Hiszpanii. Nie rozmawiałem z nim i nie ćwiczyłem mówienia po hiszpańsku.

Temprano en el día, 8:00 a.m., tuve una conversación contigo. Dijo que parecía que había perdido algo de peso, pero realmente no sé qué hacer en la casa. Fue otro día agradable, así que tuvimos que caminar por el vecindario. Mañana por la mañana finalmente reiniciaré mis conversaciones con Carmelo, mi amigo en España. I finally exchanged the winter tires for my summer tires. We have 2 sets of tires in Poland and change them for winter or summer, unlike the U.S. with it's all-season tires. I suppose somewhere I could buy them but I already have the 2 sets so it doesn't matter now.It's just another thing you get use to living in Poland.

We went to Sowa's on this beautiful day, 25c, and were a little sad to find out our favorite salesgirl is moving to Rotterdam to work there. She is about 25 years old and wants to make a change in her life. She has chosen the Netherlands to do this. She's a little nervous about living outside of Poland, alone, for the first time but excited about the new adventure. We will see her for the last time on Saturday.

Tomorrow morning at 9:00 I go to my friend, Radek's, house to watch a replay of tonight's game 3 between Golden State and Cleveland. We hope GS will win.

It is a beautiful! The temperature is perfect for me, 25c, the sky is clear and there is a little breeze. This would be good summer weather for me, good for walking.

Joan is in the living room studying Spanish and I will join her when I finish this so we can study together.

Today I bought tickets to see Al DiMeola, the guitarist. He will be in Poznañ Nov. 20 at Aula Hall for 1 night. We have tickets in the 3rd row, We have seen him years ago when he was in the group Return To Forever.

 W końcu zamieniłem opony zimowe na moje letnie opony. Posiadamy 2 zestawy opon w Polsce i zmieniamy je na zimowe lub letnie, w przeciwieństwie do USA. z oponami całorocznymi. Przypuszczam, że gdzieś mógłbym je kupić, ale mam już 2 zestawy, więc teraz nie ma to znaczenia. To jeszcze jedna rzecz, do której przyzwyczajasz się w Polsce.

Poszliśmy do Sowa tego pięknego dnia, 25c i byliśmy trochę smutni, gdy dowiedzieliśmy się, że nasza ulubiona sprzedawczyni przeprowadza się do Rotterdamu, aby tam pracować. Ma około 25 lat i chce zmienić swoje życie. Wybrałeś Holandię, aby to zrobić. Trochę denerwuje się tym, że mieszka poza Polską, sama, po raz pierwszy, ale podekscytowana nową przygodą. Zobaczymy ją po raz ostatni w sobotę.

Jutro o 9:00 idę do domu mojego przyjaciela, Radka, by obejrzeć powtórkę dzisiejszej gry 3 między Golden State i Cleveland. Mamy nadzieję, że GS wygra.

To jest piękne! Temperatura jest dla mnie idealna, 25c, niebo jest czyste i jest niewielka bryza. To byłaby dobra letnia pogoda dla mnie, dobra na spacery.

 Finalmente cambié los neumáticos de invierno por mis neumáticos de verano. Tenemos 2 juegos de neumáticos en Polonia, a diferencia de los EE. UU. con sus neumáticos para todas las estaciones. Supongo que en algún lugar podría comprarlos, pero ahora puedo comprarlos. Simplemente hay otra cosa que debes hacer en Polonia.

Fuimos a Sowa en este hermoso día, 25c, y estábamos un poco tristes de averiguarlo. Ella tiene alrededor de 25 años y quiere hacer un cambio en su vida. Ella ha elegido los Países Bajos para hacer esto. Está un poco nerviosa por Polonia, sola, por primera vez. La veremos por última vez el sábado.

Mañana a la mañana a las 9:00 am voy a casa de mi amigo, Radek, a ver una repetición del juego de esta noche entre Golden State y Cleveland. Esperamos que GS gane.

¡Es hermoso! La temperatura es perfecta para mí, 25c, el cielo está despejado y sopla un poco de brisa. Este fue un buen clima de verano para mí, bueno para caminar.

Joan made a new salad for dinner with this recipe. She cut the ingredients in half. It was good served cold.

CALIFORNIA SPAGHETTI SALAD

Serves: 10-12

Ingredients

• 1 pound thin spaghetti, broken into 1 inch pieces
• 1 pint cherry tomatoes, chopped in half
• 2 medium zucchini, diced
• 1 large cucumber, diced
• 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
• 1 red bell pepper, diced
• 1 large red onion, diced
• 2 cans (2-1/4 ounces each) sliced ripe olives, drained
• DRESSING:
• 1 bottle (16 ounces) Italian salad dressing
• ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
• 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
• 1 teaspoon paprika
• ½ teaspoon celery seed
• ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  

Instructions

1. Cook the pasta according to package directions. Drain and rinse in cold water. Add cherry tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber, green and red bell pepper, red onion and olives in a large bowl.
2. To make the dressing: Whisk together Italian salad dressing, Parmesan cheese, sesame seeds, paprika, celery seed, and garlic powder. Pour over salad and toss until coated. Cover and refrigerate for 3 hours or overnight.
