Finished 2021

So, another year is finishing today and 2022/ Remember when we couldn't wait for the year 2000?

To prepare for the new year, I made pancakes, real pancakes, for breakfast with orange marmalade or grape jam. I found a recipe for the pancake mix, 3 cups of flour. 1/3 teaspoon baking powder, 1/3 cup of sugar, and 1 teaspoon salt. I didn't add the salt.

To make the pancakes it said in a medium-sized bowl, whisk together 1 cup of pancake mix, 1 egg, 1 cup of milk, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. I didn't have vegetable oil so I used olive oil. I cooked them on medium heat. They were supposed to be light and fluffy but they weren't. Maybe it was because of the olive oil. Maybe you have a better recipe for a pancake mix?

Tonight it will be noisy from 11 PM to 1AM because of New Year's fireworks. We won't be able to see the fireworks over the city because of our new location facing south from the center. It won't matter to Joan, she will be asleep by the time it starts.

What a difference 10 years makes. Our granddaughter grew from a young girl to a young woman.

1/3 艂y偶eczki proszku do pieczenia, 1/3 szklanki cukru i 1 艂y偶eczka soli. Nie doda艂am soli.

Aby zrobi膰 nale艣niki, powiedzia艂 w 艣redniej wielko艣ci misce, ubij razem 1 fili偶ank臋 mieszanki nale艣nikowej, 1 jajko, 1 fili偶ank臋 mleka i 2 艂y偶ki oleju ro艣linnego. Nie mia艂am oleju ro艣linnego, wi臋c u偶y艂am oliwy z oliwek. Sma偶y艂am je na 艣rednim ogniu. Mia艂y by膰 lekkie i puszyste, ale nie by艂y. Mo偶e to z powodu oliwy z oliwek. Mo偶e masz lepszy przepis na mieszank臋 do nale艣nik贸w?

Dzi艣 w nocy b臋dzie g艂o艣no od 23:00 do 1:00 z powodu noworocznych fajerwerk贸w.

Jak膮 r贸偶nic臋 robi 10 lat.

No a帽ad铆 la sal.

Yo no ten铆a aceite vegetal as铆 que us茅 aceite de oliva.

Music

We had a good evening last night. Rather than watching an old movie or series, we watched the Andrea Bocelli Portofino concert on the large screen via YouTube. He is much more than just the best opera tenor, He sang songs in six different languages and different styles.

I woke Joan up this morning after food shopping with Bocelli because outside it was a typical depressing winter day, total cloud cover, gray, and raining. I thought I would put some sunshine in her life with his music.

Food shopping, I spent another 150 PLN($44). I had to replace some standard things like paper towels, tissues, etc., things we use all the time. Usually, I make out the menu and shopping list on Wednesday night, wake up at 6:00, and go shopping while she sleeps. It didn't happen today because of my blocked ear. I didn't hear the alarm and woke up at 7:30. I dressed quickly, went shopping, and was home by 8:30.

Wczoraj mieli艣my dobry wiecz贸r. On jest kim艣 wi臋cej ni偶 tylko najlepszym tenorem operowym, 艣piewa艂 piosenki w sze艣ciu r贸偶nych j臋zykach i r贸偶nych stylach.

Pomy艣la艂em, 偶e wnios臋 troch臋 s艂o艅ca w jej 偶ycie dzi臋ki jego muzyce.

Musia艂em uzupe艂ni膰 kilka standardowych rzeczy, jak r臋czniki papierowe, chusteczki itp. rzeczy, kt贸rych u偶ywamy przez ca艂y czas. Zazwyczaj uk艂adam menu i list臋 zakup贸w w 艣rod臋 wieczorem, budz臋 si臋 w czwartek o 6:00 i id臋 na zakupy, kiedy Joan 艣pi. Nie us艂ysza艂em budzika i obudzi艂em si臋 o 7:30. Szybko si臋 ubra艂em, poszed艂em na zakupy i by艂em w domu przed 8:30.

Hoy no ha sido as铆 porque tengo el o铆do tapado. No he o铆do la alarma y me he despertado a las 7:30. Me he vestido r谩pidamente, he ido a comprar y he llegado a casa a las 8:30.

Dinner.

Today, we had roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, salad, and steamed cauliflower. Joan peeled and cut the potatoes and then I mashed them. I try to get her involved in making dinner but I have to always keep an eye on her. Tomorrow morning is food shopping time so I have to make out a menu and shopping list tonight. I should have done it earlier and not wait until the evening after Joan goes to bed.

The snow is almost all gone because it's been raining off and on all day. Could that be the only snowfall we have this winter? If it is, it came just in time for Christmas so that would be alright with me.

Our favorite Polish Christmas movie is, "Listy do M"(Letters to Santa). I was surprised to see there are 3 more of them available.

Dzisiaj mieli艣my pieczonego kurczaka, t艂uczone ziemniaki, sos, sa艂atk臋 i kalafiora gotowanego na parze. Joan obra艂a i pokroi艂a ziemniaki, a potem ja je ut艂uk艂em. Staram si臋 j膮 zaanga偶owa膰 w robienie obiadu, ale musz臋 mie膰 na ni膮 oko. Jutro rano jest czas zakup贸w spo偶ywczych, wi臋c musz臋 zrobi膰 menu i list臋 zakup贸w dzi艣 wieczorem. Powinienem by艂 zrobi膰 to wcze艣niej, a nie czeka膰 do wieczora, gdy Joan p贸jdzie spa膰.

Czy to mo偶e by膰 jedyny 艣nieg, jaki spad艂 tej zimy? Je艣li tak, to przyszed艂 w sam膮 por臋 na Bo偶e Narodzenie, wi臋c to by艂oby w porz膮dku ze mn膮.

Naszym ulubionym polskim filmem 艣wi膮tecznym jest "Listy do M". By艂em zaskoczony, aby zobaczy膰, 偶e s膮 3 wi臋cej z nich dost臋pne.

Si es as铆, ha llegado justo a tiempo para la Navidad, as铆 que me parece bien.

Nuestra pel铆cula navide帽a polaca favorita es "Listy do M" (Cartas a Pap谩 Noel).

53

Today, he would have had his celebration birthday beginning 53 years. Eric was born in Washington D.C. and we lived there for 2 years until we moved back to Indiana to live with my brother. A year later we moved across the state line and lived in a little house owned by my father. Next, we moved to Park Forest, Illinois to be closer to work for my first wife. I started DePaul University Music School and took the train to Chicago every day. Eric was in a Montessori school during the day. That was 1971. During the next 4 years, a difference of opinions occurred between my wife and me about the course of my music education. She wanted me to become a teacher for stability, I just wanted to play music. The difference was too great and we divorced in 1975. A tragic event took place that year that changed Eric at an early age and affected the rest of his life. When it was over, he and his mother moved back to the east coast to her parents/

It was difficult to see Eric very often, I only had him for the summer vacation and sometimes Christmas. The separation and other things affected our relationship as he grew up. We had disagreements over different topics and sometimes resulted in him not talking to me. It hurt but I kept trying to stay in touch with him.

For the last 18 years, we have been closer, even living here in Poland, and we finally had a good connection. I talked to him on May 15th and we were to talk again in two weeks. It was a completely unbelievable moment when his partner, Amy, called me and said Eric had suddenly died the night before. It was on May 24th. A memory or a thought of Eric comes to my mind and tears are still automatic, especially at this time of year. I have no control over it. The grief in my heart is still overwhelming. The picture above is when I took him to Colorado to help instill the love of nature. Later in years, he thanked me for that trip and other things he had learned from me.

Dzisiaj obchodzi艂by 53. urodziny. Eric urodzi艂 si臋 w Waszyngtonie D.C., gdzie mieszkali艣my przez 2 lata, dop贸ki nie przenie艣li艣my si臋 z powrotem do Indiany, by zamieszka膰 z moim bratem. Rok p贸藕niej przenie艣li艣my si臋 za granic臋 stanu i zamieszkali艣my w ma艂ym domku, kt贸rego w艂a艣cicielem by艂 m贸j ojciec. Nast臋pnie przeprowadzili艣my si臋 do Park Forest w Illinois, aby by膰 bli偶ej pracy mojej pierwszej 偶ony. Eric w ci膮gu dnia ucz臋szcza艂 do szko艂y Montessori. To by艂 rok 1971. W ci膮gu nast臋pnych 4 lat mi臋dzy moj膮 偶on膮 a mn膮 pojawi艂a si臋 r贸偶nica zda艅 co do kierunku mojej edukacji muzycznej. Ona chcia艂a, 偶ebym zosta艂 nauczycielem, by zapewni膰 stabilizacj臋, ja chcia艂em tylko gra膰 muzyk臋. R贸偶nica by艂a zbyt du偶a i rozwiedli艣my si臋 w 1975 roku.  To tragiczne wydarzenie mia艂o miejsce, kiedy Eric by艂 ch艂opcem i zmieni艂o go oraz wp艂yn臋艂o na reszt臋 jego 偶ycia.

Trudno by艂o bardzo cz臋sto widywa膰 Erica, mia艂em go tylko na letnie wakacje i czasami na Bo偶e Narodzenie. Separacja i inne sprawy wp艂yn臋艂y na nasze relacje, kiedy dorasta艂.

Rozmawia艂em z nim 15 maja i mieli艣my porozmawia膰 ponownie za dwa tygodnie. To by艂 zupe艂nie niewiarygodny moment, kiedy jego partnerka, Amy, zadzwoni艂a do mnie i powiedzia艂a, 偶e Eric zmar艂 nagle poprzedniej nocy. To by艂o 24 maja. 呕al w moim sercu jest wci膮偶 przyt艂aczaj膮cy. Powy偶sze zdj臋cie jest z czas贸w, kiedy zabra艂em go do Kolorado, aby pom贸c mu zaszczepi膰 w sobie mi艂o艣膰 do natury. W p贸藕niejszych latach dzi臋kowa艂 mi za t臋 podr贸偶 i inne rzeczy, kt贸rych si臋 ode mnie nauczy艂.

La separaci贸n y otras cosas afectaron a nuestra relaci贸n mientras crec铆a.

3rd day

The 3rd day of Christmas is the day for visiting friends or family that you haven't seen on Christmas Eve/Day. Depending on how many you visit, it can take the whole day of driving to different places or staying home to greet guests. The choice is up to you. Of course, Covid-19 has been a severe damper on it this year as last year. We stayed home, visited by no one.

We watched a few Christmas movies, I made some chocolate no-bake cookies and at night we had a Skype with Joan's kids and grandkids.

We started watching the original Scrooge movies at 8:30 PM but by 9, Joan had fallen asleep and I turned it off to do other things after I put her in bed.

W zale偶no艣ci od tego, ile os贸b odwiedzasz, mo偶e to zaj膮膰 ca艂y dzie艅 jazdy do r贸偶nych miejsc lub pozostania w domu, aby przywita膰 go艣ci. Wyb贸r nale偶y do Ciebie. Oczywi艣cie, Covid-19 by艂 ci臋偶ki damper na to w tym roku, jak w zesz艂ym roku.

Ogl膮dali艣my kilka 艣wi膮tecznych film贸w, zrobi艂em kilka czekoladowych ciasteczek bez pieczenia, a w nocy mieli艣my Skype z dzie膰mi i wnukami Joan.

Zacz臋li艣my ogl膮da膰 oryginalne filmy o Scrooge'u o 20:30, ale o 21:00 Joan zasn臋艂a i wy艂膮czy艂am je, 偶eby zrobi膰 inne rzeczy po tym, jak po艂o偶y艂am j膮 do 艂贸偶ka.

Christmas past.

I just started to write this before the date deadline. At midnight it automatically starts a new day so I try to write before that.

The day did not start off well. Joan was unable to stand up and it took a lot of energy and time to move her from one place to another. I don't know why it happened, of course. She was fine yesterday. I guess it was just a little Christmas surprise. By early evening she was walking a little with my help, a few steps.

Most of the day I just sat with her and watched a lot of Andrea Bocelli's Christmas programs. It was a good distraction but my mind had a little trouble forgetting about the morning. The programs made me think of my son Eric and the Christmases we spent together when he was young. He would have been 53 on the 27th, the same birth date as my sister, Tami. She will be 6. They were 10 years apart in age. Like my son, they were not in my life enough due to various reasons. I would give almost anything to have those missing years back. You don't know what you have until you lose it. I think that's a line from some song.

I think I have about 65 Christmases stored in my brain but, naturally, can't really remember them all. The ones I spent with most of my cousins and family stand out the most, The 2 I spent in Spain still remain, ice skating in Riverside park on Christmas day is another, the Wigilia ones, midnight masses, White Christmases, and the one I missed being on an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean Sea. I remember that one because my brother put a hat I wore on the top of the Christmas tree at home instead of the traditional angel. It was to remind everyone about me. I loved my brother and still think of him often 47 years after his death.

W艂a艣nie zacz膮艂em to pisa膰 przed up艂ywem terminu. O p贸艂nocy automatycznie zaczyna si臋 nowy dzie艅, wi臋c staram si臋 pisa膰 wcze艣niej.

Dzie艅 nie zacz膮艂 si臋 dobrze. Wczoraj by艂o z ni膮 wszystko w porz膮dku. My艣l臋, 偶e to by艂a taka ma艂a 艣wi膮teczna niespodzianka. Do wczesnego wieczora chodzi艂a z moj膮 pomoc膮, po kilka krok贸w.

To by艂o dobre odwr贸cenie uwagi, ale m贸j umys艂 mia艂 troch臋 problem贸w z zapomnieniem o poranku. Programy sprawi艂y, 偶e pomy艣la艂em o moim synu Ericu i o 艣wi臋tach, kt贸re sp臋dzili艣my razem, kiedy by艂 m艂ody. On mia艂by 53 na 27, ta sama data urodzenia jak moja siostra, Tami. Ona b臋dzie mia艂a 6 lat. Dzieli艂o ich 10 lat r贸偶nicy wieku. Podobnie jak m贸j syn, z r贸偶nych powod贸w nie by艂o ich w moim 偶yciu wystarczaj膮co du偶o. Odda艂abym prawie wszystko, 偶eby mie膰 te brakuj膮ce lata z powrotem. To chyba wers z jakiej艣 piosenki.

Te, kt贸re sp臋dzi艂em z wi臋kszo艣ci膮 moich kuzyn贸w i rodziny wyr贸偶niaj膮 si臋 najbardziej, 2, kt贸re sp臋dzi艂em w Hiszpanii nadal pozostaj膮, jazda na 艂y偶wach w parku Riverside w dzie艅 Bo偶ego Narodzenia to kolejny, te wigilijne, msze o p贸艂nocy, Bia艂e 艢wi臋ta, i ten, kt贸ry przegapi艂em b臋d膮c na lotniskowcu na Morzu 艢r贸dziemnym. Pami臋tam ten jeden, poniewa偶 m贸j brat umie艣ci艂 na czubku choinki w domu czapk臋, kt贸r膮 nosi艂em, zamiast tradycyjnego anio艂a. Mia艂o to przypomina膰 wszystkim o mnie.

A medianoche comienza autom谩ticamente un nuevo d铆a, as铆 que intento escribir antes.

Curiosity

Out of curiosity, I've looked back at our 1st Christmas Eve in Poland.

Wigilia

At 9AM I went with our friend Zybyszek to pick up the rented car. It took over an hour to get the papers in order and then I found out I wasn't getting a Fiat Panda, instead, I got a Chevrolet Spark. How ironic. A Chevrolet! It's a small compact not sold in the U.S. I checked it over and discovered the gas tank wasn't filled up so the clerk had to follow me to the gas station where I filled it up and he paid. Cost $120 zl($48 USD) for ten gallons so don't complain about gas prices in the U.S. In a few minutes of driving the fear of driving in Poland left me and I even took a little tour around town, stopping at my bank to have some larger money changed for smaller bills. Back at home, Joan was finishing the making of the cheesecake. We watched a Christmas program on TV, had lunch, and then left at 3:30PM for Luka's house and Wigilia. It was already getting dark and when we arrived Marek, R贸zia, and I took a walk into the woods across the street from their house. R贸zia wanted to put some carrots, apples, and nuts under a tree for the animal's Christmas.

Wigilia started with the op艂atek to wish each other well for the next year. The first course was mushroom soup over dumplings and then the other traditional dishes followed. After supper, we went into the living room where the presents were under the tree.

After the presents were given, traditional Polish Christmas carols were sung. About an hour later, Marek's mother and father came over. The table was filled with Christmas desserts, coffee, tea, and wine were served and more carols were sung by all.

We drove back home about 9PM to prepare for our next visit tomorrow in Golina.

My, how things have changed. We had no traditional Wigilia, With only Joan and I, I prepared a totally different kind of dinner. It was Orange marmalade chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli, and salad. I wouldn't know how to make the 12 traditional dishes for Wigilia and with only the two of us, I didn't try.

Z ciekawo艣ci zajrza艂am do naszej 1. Wigilii w Polsce.

PONIEDZIA艁EK, 24 GRUDNIA 2007 R.

Wigilia

O 9 rano pojecha艂em z naszym przyjacielem Zybyszkiem odebra膰 wypo偶yczony samoch贸d. Sprawdzi艂em go i odkry艂em, 偶e bak nie by艂 zatankowany, wi臋c urz臋dnik musia艂 pojecha膰 za mn膮 na stacj臋 benzynow膮, gdzie go zatankowa艂em i on zap艂aci艂. W domu, Joan ko艅czy艂a piec sernik. Obejrzeli艣my 艣wi膮teczny program w telewizji, zjedli艣my obiad, a potem o 15:30 wyruszyli艣my do domu Luki i Wigilii. Robi艂o si臋 ju偶 ciemno i kiedy dotarli艣my na miejsce, Marek, R贸zia i ja poszli艣my na spacer do lasu naprzeciwko ich domu.

Wigilia rozpocz臋艂a si臋 od op艂atka, aby 偶yczy膰 sobie nawzajem wszystkiego dobrego na nast臋pny rok. Pierwszym daniem by艂a zupa grzybowa na pierogach, a potem nast膮pi艂y inne tradycyjne potrawy. Po kolacji udali艣my si臋 do salonu, gdzie pod choink膮 le偶a艂y prezenty.

Oko艂o godziny p贸藕niej przyszli mama i tata Marka. Na stole znalaz艂y si臋 艣wi膮teczne desery, podano kaw臋, herbat臋 i wino, a wszyscy 艣piewali kol臋dy.

Oko艂o 21:00 wr贸cili艣my do domu, aby przygotowa膰 si臋 do jutrzejszej wizyty w Golinie.

Pi膮tek, 24 grudnia 2021 r.

Ojej, jak to si臋 wszystko zmieni艂o. By艂 to kurczak z marmolad膮 pomara艅czow膮, t艂uczone ziemniaki, broku艂y i sa艂atka. Nie wiedzia艂abym, jak przygotowa膰 12 tradycyjnych potraw wigilijnych, a 偶e by艂y艣my tylko we dwie, nie pr贸bowa艂am.

Por curiosidad, he recordado nuestra primera Nochebuena en Polonia.

Wigilia

Qu茅 iron铆a.

White Christmas

At last! We are going to have a white Christmas. The ground is covered enough with snow and the temperature will keep it for at least two days so we finally have one. It's been so long, I don't really remember the last time we did. I very much like snow, especially when we have no need to go anywhere.

It has been a good day. Joan had a good physical therapy session after the last two disastrous ones. She did everything right and Bartosz was happy with the session.

Also, Joan received a message from the disability board that her case will be reviewed on the 4th of January and she doesn't have to be there for it. If they approve it, maybe I can get some help with Joan.

Tonight I am listening to a James Tayor Christmas DVD.

Nareszcie! B臋dziemy mieli bia艂e 艣wi臋ta. Bardzo lubi臋 艣nieg, zw艂aszcza gdy nie musimy nigdzie wychodzi膰.

To by艂 dobry dzie艅. Joanna mia艂a dobr膮 sesj臋 fizykoterapii po ostatnich dw贸ch fatalnych. Zrobi艂a wszystko jak nale偶y, a Bartosz by艂 zadowolony z sesji.

Ponadto Joan otrzyma艂a wiadomo艣膰 od komisji ds. niepe艂nosprawno艣ci, 偶e jej sprawa b臋dzie rozpatrywana 4 stycznia i nie musi tam by膰. Je艣li j膮 zatwierdz膮, to mo偶e uda mi si臋 uzyska膰 jak膮艣 pomoc dla Joan.

Dzi艣 wieczorem s艂ucham 艣wi膮tecznego DVD Jamesa Tayora.

Something new.

Today started with a message from Bartosz that he wanted to come today instead of tomorrow. However, I already had plans for the afternoon that couldn't be changed so I told him it was not possible. It's usually possible to change my plan for a given day but not this time.

The beef stew I made the other day turned out very good, there was just too much of it. We ate it on three different dinner nights. I put some pictures on the right side of this blog.

Tonight is another new soup for me, minestrone soup. Everything was prepared in the morning and put into the crockpot to slow cook for 6 hours. I like that cooking apparatus. It helps that I don't have to spend so much time cooking dinners.

Dzisiejszy dzie艅 zacz膮艂 si臋 od wiadomo艣ci od Bartosza, 偶e chcia艂by przyjecha膰 dzisiaj zamiast jutro.

Gulasz wo艂owy, kt贸ry zrobi艂am poprzedniego dnia okaza艂 si臋 bardzo dobry, by艂o go po prostu za du偶o. Zjedli艣my go na trzy r贸偶ne kolacje. Umie艣ci艂am kilka zdj臋膰 po prawej stronie tego bloga.

Wszystko przygotowywa艂 w ranku i stawia膰 w crockpot wolno gotowa膰 dla 6 godzin. Lubi臋 ten aparat do gotowania.

It's up.

I put the Christmas tree up today without Joan's help. It was the first time in 46 years. It was more of a chore than a pleasure. It just wasn't the same feeling.

I had my Tuesday meeting at Radek's house and a second breakfast of boiled eggs, sausage, pickles, buns, tomatoes, and tea. Earlier, I had breakfast with Joan because I forgot there would be breakfast at Radek's.

Dzi艣 ubra艂em choink臋 bez pomocy Joanny. To by艂 pierwszy raz od 46 lat. To by艂 bardziej obowi膮zek ni偶 przyjemno艣膰.

Dzisiaj, jak zwykle we wtorki, mia艂em spotkanie z Radkiem u niego w domu i drugie 艣niadanie, kt贸re sk艂ada艂o si臋 z gotowanych jajek, kie艂basy, og贸rk贸w kiszonych, bu艂ek, pomidor贸w i herbaty. Wcze艣niej jad艂em 艣niadanie z Joan, bo zapomnia艂em, 偶e u Radka te偶 b臋dzie.

A Christmas Miracle.

I wrote before about losing the main "pilot" key to the car. I searched everywhere 5 times to no avail. I  thought this morning I would go to the Fiat dealer to have a new one made. My friend, Michal, told me the cost was 500 PLN($122) because they not only made the key but they had to reprogram the car to recognize the signal from the pilot to open and close the doors. I wasn't looking forward to losing another 500 PLN.

Last night, during dinner, the owner of our flat called and asked if I had found the key. I was surprised he knew about it but sometimes he reads this blog. I told him unfortunately no I had not found it. He said he had good news. He received a call from a young man who found my key and wanted to return it to me.

It's a great mystery to me how that man was able to find the owner of our flat, out of all the flats in this complex. However, he did and I called him to ask if he would meet me. In about 15 minutes he was at the front door of the building and gave me the key. I offered him a reward but he refused it. He said he found it by the rubbish dump but I don't remember taking out the garbage so I never looked there.

Later in the evening, I received an SMS from the owner,  Mariusz, inviting us to spend Wigilia(Christmas Eve) with him and his wife. I thought that was very kind of him but first I have to talk about it with Joan. He has been here on a few occasions and I think Joan is comfortable around him. I just don't know how she will feel around more people she hasn't met before. It's a delicate situation now because of her declining mental state. I would not hesitate to say yes if she was in good health. I like talking with Mariusz.

Pisa艂em wcze艣niej o zgubieniu g艂贸wnego klucza "pilota" do samochodu. Szuka艂em wsz臋dzie 5 razy ale bezskutecznie. Pomy艣la艂em, 偶e dzi艣 rano pojad臋 do dealera Fiata, aby dorobi膰 nowy.

Wczoraj wieczorem, podczas kolacji, zadzwoni艂 w艂a艣ciciel naszego mieszkania i zapyta艂 czy znalaz艂em klucz. Otrzyma艂 telefon od m艂odego cz艂owieka, kt贸ry znalaz艂 m贸j klucz i chcia艂 mi go zwr贸ci膰.

Po mniej wi臋cej 15. minutach by艂 przy drzwiach wej艣ciowych do budynku i da艂 mi klucz. Zaoferowa艂em mu nagrod臋, ale odm贸wi艂.

By艂 tu ju偶 kilka razy i my艣l臋, 偶e Joan czuje si臋 przy nim swobodnie. Lubi臋 rozmawia膰 z Mariuszem.

Dijo que lo hab铆a encontrado junto al cubo, pero yo no recordaba haber sacado la basura, as铆 que nunca mir茅 all铆.

Certified.

Finally, I went to Joanna's house on the right day and we had a nice meeting talking about the pandemic and how little the government is doing to slow it down. Several countries in Europe do not allow people to enter restaurants, shops, bars, clubs, etc. without the EU Covid Certificate of proof of vaccination. They call it the "Green Pass", in Italy. In Poland, it is not necessary. Vaccinated and non-vaccinated people are in the same places. I'm sorry but I think everyone who can be vaccinated, should be.

We have been watching the David Attenborough series, "Our Planet". The photography is fantastic but the message is about how climate change is affecting the planet/ It's just unfortunate there are so many who are not paying attention to it to stop governments and greedy people to allow it to continue. I am glad I am 77 tears old.

Kilka kraj贸w w Europie nie pozwala ludziom wchodzi膰 do restauracji, sklep贸w, bar贸w, klub贸w, itp. bez unijnego certyfikatu Covid potwierdzaj膮cego szczepienie. We W艂oszech nazywaj膮 to "Zielon膮 przepustk膮". W Polsce nie jest on konieczny. Osoby zaszczepione i niezaszczepione przebywaj膮 w tych samych miejscach.

Ogl膮dali艣my serial Davida Attenborough "Nasza planeta". Ciesz臋 si臋, 偶e mam 77 lat.

Me alegro de tener 77 a帽os.

Clouds.

Last evening I watched the sun breaking through the gray clouds to make trails of light cascade down to lighter clouds. It was like using a flashlight to underline parts of the sky. Like in the morning when there are clouds in the sky but the sun is just rising. Then you can watch the clouds change colors as the sun ascends into the heavens. It is most effective when you see the sunrise over a body of water like the Mediterranean sea. I did that often during our stays in Spain. Ah, Spain, how I long to take Joan there now during this coming winter.

Via YouTube, Joan and I took a trip to Tokyo for a Christmas walk around the city. They really do a fantastic job decorating the city.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyJ85QF3qhI

Today, in the morning, it was a disastrous morning. I woke up early to go to the meeting with Joanna only to discover I couldn't find the car pilot key. I searched everywhere, 3 times. I was sure I had used it to lock the car and take the groceries upstairs. On the chance I was wrong, I went to the parking area and checked the car. It was locked. Back upstairs I searched 2 more times with no good result. The key was lost somehow. Joan had a backup key so I took that.

I drove to Joannas for the meeting only to find the windows were shuttered and no lights were on in the kitchen. Then I realized I had the wrong day. We meet tomorrow.

Back home, I turned on the laptop to get ready for my 11:00 meeting with Michal and all I had was a circle going round and round. I let it run and started preparing the beef stew for tonight in the crock pot. I hope it turns out well. It's the first time I made it.

To by艂o jak u偶ycie latarki do podkre艣lenia cz臋艣ci nieba. Podobnie do  poranka, gdy na niebie s艂o艅ce wychodzi spoza chmur.

Oni naprawd臋 robi膮 fantastyczn膮 robot臋 dekoruj膮c miasto.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyJ85QF3qhI

Dzisiejszy poranek by艂 fatalny. Szuka艂em wsz臋dzie 3 razy. By艂em pewnien, 偶e u偶y艂em go do zamkni臋cia samochodu i zabrania zakup贸w na g贸r臋. By艂 zamkni臋ty. Klucz jako艣 si臋 zadzia艂. Joan mia艂a zapasowy klucz, wi臋c go wzi膮艂em.

Wtedy zda艂em sobie spraw臋, 偶e pomyli艂em dni.

Mam nadziej臋, 偶e wyjdzie dobrze.

2 surprises.

Food shopping day yesterday gave 2 surprises. I arrived right when Carrefour opened at 06:30. NOT to my surprise was the fact that their vegetable selection was limited. Maybe later in the morning there at more but it's too late for me. Everything thing else they had, except for the beef I required to make a pot roast.

I remembered I had passed a Lidle store close by so I went to find it again and see what their vegetable selection was like. To my surprise, their selection was four times greater and I bought my missing vegetables. However, their meat section did not have what I needed,

Fortunately, only a short distance away was the Bistry butcher shop and they had exactly what I needed so I bought it. Meat ay Bistry is certainly more expensive but I know it is always of good quality and fresh every day.

I'm happy now that I have stores very close that meet the requirements of my food selection each week. It was less convenient in our old location to get everything in one small relatively close location.

Wczorajszy dzie艅 na zakupy spo偶ywcze przyni贸s艂 2 niespodzianki. Wszystko inne mieli, poza wo艂owin膮 kt贸r膮 potrzebowa艂em do zrobienia pieczeni.

Pami臋ta艂em, 偶e przejecha艂em blisko sklepu Lidl sklep, wi臋c pojecha艂em go ponownie odszuka膰 i zobaczy膰, jak wygl膮da ich dzia艂 z warzywami . Ku mojemu zaskoczeniu, ich wyb贸r by艂 czterokrotnie wi臋kszy i kupi艂em moje brakuj膮ce warzywa.

Na szcz臋艣cie w niewielkiej odleg艂o艣ci znajdowa艂 si臋 sklep mi臋sny Bistry i mieli dok艂adnie to, czego potrzebowa艂em, wi臋c kupi艂em.

W naszej starej lokalizacji by艂o mniej wygodnie, aby dosta膰 wszystko w jednym ma艂ym stosunkowo bliskim otoczeniu.

Afortunadamente, a poca distancia estaba la carnicer铆a Bistry y ten铆an exactamente lo que necesitaba, as铆 que lo compr茅.

Listen.

Listen to your own voice. I have done that since I was 17, 60 years ago. Sometimes I regretted it when it brought me hard times or sorrow but most of the time I was satisfied doing that. Regrets that I have are locked away in a storage closet and I visit them no more. We parted our ways some years ago and I will not return to them.

Christmas can never be like it was in your youth so the best you can do is to remember those times with fond remembrance and create good Christmas memories today to remember tomorrow. Doing that, as you add years to your life, you add pages to your book of Christmases past. Don't long for the "old" days because they are just that, old.

"Be here, now" is a book I read a long time ago. Enjoy the day or minute you have now and don't think about the past or future/ There is an old Inuit proverb which means the same thing, "Yesterday is ashes; tomorrow wood. Only today does the fire burn brightly".. It's not to say I don't think about the past because I do but I don't linger there.

I don't contemplate the future because it could be over tomorrow in this disenchanted world. Mother Earth is dying and the Emperor has no clothes. Chicken Little is running around saying the sky is falling but not enough people are listening. There are no tidings of comfort and of joy.

So, I have listened to my own voice and am satisfied I did. I hope you are also.

S艂uchaj swojego w艂asnego g艂osu. Robi臋 to od 17 roku 偶ycia, czyli od 60 lat. Rozstali艣my si臋 kilka lat temu i nie b臋d臋 do nich wraca膰.

Bo偶e Narodzenie mo偶e nigdy by膰 takie, jak ono by艂o w twojej m艂odo艣ci wi臋c najlepsze, co mo偶esz robi膰 jest mile pami臋ta膰 tamte czasy i tworzy膰 dobre bo偶enarodzeniowe wspomnienia dzisiaj, aby pami臋ta膰 je jutro. Robi膰 to, gdy przybywa ci lat, ty dodajesz strony do twojej ksi膮偶ki o minionych 艣wi臋tach Bo偶ego Narodzenia..

"B膮d藕 tu teraz" to ksi膮偶ka, kt贸r膮 przeczyta艂em dawno temu. Ciesz si臋 dniem lub minut膮, kt贸r膮 masz teraz i nie my艣l o przesz艂o艣ci lub przysz艂o艣ci. Jest takie stare eskimoskie przys艂owie, kt贸re znaczy to samo: "Wczoraj to popi贸艂, jutro drewno". Tylko dzisiaj ogie艅 p艂onie jasno"... Nie znaczy to, 偶e nie my艣l臋 o przesz艂o艣ci, bo my艣l臋, ale nie zatrzymuj臋 si臋 tam.

Kurczak Ma艂y biega dooko艂a m贸wi膮c, 偶e niebo upada, ale za ma艂o ludzi go s艂ucha.

Wi臋c, s艂ucha艂em mojego wewn臋trznego g艂osu i jestem zadowolony, 偶e tak robi艂em. Mam nadziej臋, 偶e ty tak偶e.

Escucha tu propia voz. A veces me he arrepentido cuando me ha tra铆do momentos duros o de tristeza, pero la mayor铆a de las veces he sido feliz con lo que he hecho.

From Poland

On the home front, the first case of omicron was reported in China: it's a Pole who flew in from Warsaw

According to the Polish Press Agency, the Pole flew to the Chinese city of Tianjin from Warsaw on December 9. He underwent a standard test that revealed a coronavirus infection. Soon after, it was confirmed to be the omicron variant - the first case in mainland China. So, if Omicron is in Warsaw, it won't be long before it is here in Poznan.

The Polish man who was confirmed infected has no symptoms. So far, no other passengers on the plane who flew with the infected man have tested positive for Covid-19. The Pole has been hospitalized.

Today, we had to get up at 9:00. The last time I had to get up at a specific time, I set the alarm, didn't hear it, and woke up 2 hours late. The problem is I have a wax buildup in one ear. Last night I set three alarms for 9:00 and felt safe I would hear at least one of them. However, I went to sleep at 1 AM, woke up at 2:30, 3:46, and 6:15. Not wanting the take a chance on sleeping through the alarms, I just stayed up and started writing this. Joan and I both had a doctor's appointment this morning.

Joan's was for her creatine problem and mine to get a referral to a laryngologist to have my ear cleaned out. I don't quite understand what a GP can't do it. It's not like it's surgery.

Na froncie krajowym odnotowano pierwszy przypadek omikronu w Chinach: to Polak, kt贸ry przylecia艂 z Warszawy

Jak podaje Polska Agencja Prasowa, Polak przylecia艂 do chi艅skiego miasta Tianjin z Warszawy 9 grudnia. Przeszed艂 standardowe badania, kt贸re wykaza艂y zaka偶enie koronawirusem. Wkr贸tce potem potwierdzono, 偶e jest to wariant omicron - pierwszy przypadek w  kontynentalnych Chinach.

Polak trafi艂 do szpitala.

Dzisiaj musieli艣my wsta膰 o 9:00. Ostatnim razem, gdy musia艂em wsta膰 o konkretnej godzinie, nastawi艂em alarm, nie us艂ysza艂em go i obudzi艂em si臋 z 2-godzinnym op贸藕nieniem. Ostatniej nocy ustawi艂em trzy alarmy na 9:00 i czu艂em si臋 bezpiecznie, 偶e us艂ysz臋 przynajmniej jeden z nich. Jednak poszed艂em spa膰 o 1 w nocy, obudzi艂em si臋 o 2:30, 3:46 i 6:15. Oboje z Joan mieli艣my dzi艣 rano wizyt臋 u lekarza.

Joan mia艂a problem z kreatyn膮, a ja dosta艂em skierowanie do laryngologa, 偶eby wyczy艣ci艂 mi ucho.

Vincent

We watched an incredible movie last night from the Polish Film Institute, "Loving Vincent". It is a story about the death of Vincent Van Gogh, made partly in Wroclaw. It is in English. What was so extraordinary about the film was that it had been entirely painted by a team of 100 artists. There is no camera work, It's an animated film with animated-speaking people.

I had to go to the office of disabilities to give them a copy of Joan's permanent residency card. I am hoping to get someone to come and take care of Joan for a few hours 2 days a week. I know that it is possible if the panel of people who review her medical documents agrees to it.

The snow is gone but the gray skies continue to hang around.

Wczoraj wieczorem obejrzeli艣my niesamowity film z Polskiego Instytutu Sztuki Filmowej, "Loving Vincent". Jest to opowie艣膰 o 艣mierci Vincenta Van Gogha, nakr臋cona cz臋艣ciowo we Wroc艂awiu.

Musia艂am p贸j艣膰 do urz臋du ds. os贸b niepe艂nosprawnych, 偶eby da膰 im kopi臋 karty sta艂ego pobytu Joan. Wiem, 偶e jest to mo偶liwe, je艣li zgodzi si臋 na to zesp贸艂 ludzi, kt贸rzy przegl膮daj膮 jej dokumenty medyczne.

艢nieg znikn膮艂, ale szare niebo nadal si臋 utrzymuje.

Est谩 en ingl茅s.

Christmas

Poland and several other countries across central and eastern Europe are battling a massive surge of infections and death fuelled by the transmissible delta variant. Now it faces the specter of another variant, omicron, with vaccinations rates far lower in Western Europe.

The death rate in Poland, while lower than at its peak in the spring, has been at more than 500 dead per day in many recent days, and has not yet peaked. With the holidays coming, it seems likely the number will go up as people travel to celebrate Christmas. As usual, Joan and I will spend it alone.

Speaking of Christmas, tonight I'm listening to a Pavarotti Christmas concert. I am so grateful that he was in Joan and my life. Sometimes his voice is so moving I can feel tears on my cheeks because of the beauty he produced in his vocals. Music is like that for me, I feel it emotionally. At one time in my life, it was almost everything. When it didn't come to pass, I was grateful to have Joan replace it. She is still everything to me, that is why it hurts so much to see what is happening to her. Hopefully, you will never experience what this is like.

Polska i kilka innych kraj贸w w Europie 艢rodkowej i Wschodniej walczy z masowym wzrostem liczby infekcji i zgon贸w nap臋dzanych przez zaka藕ny wariant delta. Teraz stoi przed widmem innego wariantu, omicron, przy znacznie ni偶szych wska藕nikach szczepie艅 w Europie Zachodniej.

M贸wi膮c o 艣wi臋tach, dzi艣 wieczorem s艂ucham 艣wi膮tecznego koncertu Pavarottiego. Jestem tak wdzi臋czny, 偶e by艂 w 偶yciu Joan i moim. W pewnym okresie mojego 偶ycia, by艂a prawie wszystkim. Kiedy to si臋 nie spe艂ni艂o, by艂em wdzi臋czny, 偶e Joan mi j膮 zast膮pi艂a.

Language day

Lots of activity today for a Sunday.

First, I had to go to Sowa's at 10:00 to pick up some pastries for our guests, our old neighbors, Marek, Hania, and daughter, Zuzannah. The Polish custom is to take something for the hosts when you visit their house for the first time. Marek and Hania outdid the custom. They brought homemade bigos, a large pot of soup, and a cheesecake covered in chocolate. We really liked the cheesecake but didn't need it because I bought a weight scale today and Joan is overweight,

They stayed for about an hour and a half, speaking in Polish with me. Zuzannah has been studying English for 7 years in school but as normal was very hesitant to use the language. We have known Zuza since the day she was born 12 years ago. She is a wonderful young lady.

At 3:30(15:30), I spoke with Carmelo from Spain in Spanish and he asked how the weather was now in Poland. I told him there was snow, 0 degrees, and gray. He laughed and said it was 21 C, sunny and there were many people at the beach.

At 5 PM(17:00, Joan had her weekly Skype conversation with her daughter. They spoke for about an hour and then we had a dinner of bigos. It was a full day today and Joan fell asleep early.

Du偶o zaj臋膰 jak na niedziel臋.

Zostali oko艂o p贸艂torej godziny, rozmawiaj膮c ze mn膮 po polsku.

O 3:30 (15:30) rozmawia艂em z Carmelo z Hiszpanii i zapyta艂, jaka jest teraz pogoda w Polsce. Powiedzia艂am mu, 偶e jest 艣nieg, 0 stopni i szaro.

O 17:00 Joan odby艂a swoj膮 cotygodniow膮 rozmow臋 na Skype z c贸rk膮. Rozmawia艂y przez oko艂o godzin臋, a potem zjedli艣my kolacj臋 z bigosem. To by艂 dzi艣 ca艂y dzie艅 i Joan wcze艣nie zasn臋艂a.

Comments.

Let me start by saying I am sorry if I have not responded to some past comments. I am no longer notified when a comment is made. Only today did I find in the "layout: section that many comments were there from the past  2 months. I'm trying to answer them all. I will check that place every day now.

This blog has brought me joy from the people I have met through it. One lady, in particular, Anna, is a Polish lady living in Florida but has family in Lublin. She read my blog about the earplugs and said she would buy them for us and bring them with her when she returns to Poland to spend Christmas with her family. Joan and I have met her some years ago when her plane landed in Poznan on the way to Lublin. She also sent us her recipe for cheesecake which Joan has successfully made several times. I have yet to attempt it.

Also, some years ago, when I mentioned to her that w were going to visit Lublin, she arranged with her older sister to stay in her sister Bola's house. Bola was a fantastic host and we enjoyed the time we spent with her and her family who lived very close to her.

That is the value and reason I keep writing this blog, the people I have met.

Pozw贸l mi zacz膮膰 od tego, 偶e przepraszam, je艣li nie odpowiedzia艂em na niekt贸re komentarze z przesz艂o艣ci. Nie jestem ju偶 powiadamiany o komentarzach. Dopiero dzisiaj znalaz艂em w sekcji "uk艂ad:, 偶e wiele komentarzy by艂o tam z ostatnich 2 miesi臋cy. Staram si臋 na nie wszystkie odpowiedzie膰. Teraz b臋d臋 zagl膮da膰 tam codziennie.

Ten blog przyni贸s艂 mi rado艣膰 z ludzi, kt贸rych dzi臋ki niemu pozna艂am. Joan i ja spotka艂y艣my j膮 kilka lat temu, kiedy jej samolot l膮dowa艂 w Poznaniu w drodze do Lublina. Przys艂a艂a nam r贸wnie偶 sw贸j przepis na sernik, kt贸ry Joan z powodzeniem robi艂a ju偶 kilka razy. Ja jeszcze go nie pr贸bowa艂am.

Ponadto, kilka lat temu, kiedy wspomnia艂am jej, 偶e zamierzamy odwiedzi膰 Lublin, um贸wi艂a si臋 ze swoj膮 starsz膮 siostr膮, 偶e zatrzymamy si臋 w domu jej siostry Boli. Bola by艂a fantastyczn膮 gospodyni膮 i bardzo mi艂o sp臋dzili艣my czas z ni膮 i jej rodzin膮, kt贸ra mieszka艂a bardzo blisko.

Perm铆tanme empezar diciendo que lamento no haber respondido a algunos comentarios anteriores.

Yo todav铆a no la he intentado.

Problem

Because of the noise Joan makes when she sleeps, sometimes I have to use earplugs, I had only 2 left so I went to the Apteka to buy more. They informed me they no longer can order them. I went to 4 other Aptekas but they said the same thing. I found a website from Germany that sells them but when I tried to bank transfer the money to them, it won't accept their account number. I wrote an email to their customer service and am now waiting for a reply.

Ze wzgl臋du na ha艂as, jaki Joanna robi podczas snu, czasami musz臋 u偶ywa膰 zatyczek do uszu, zosta艂y mi tylko dwie sztuki, wi臋c posz艂am do Apteki, 偶eby kupi膰 wi臋cej. Poinformowali mnie, 偶e nie mog膮 ich ju偶 zam贸wi膰. Posz艂am do 4 innych aptek, ale powiedzieli to samo. Napisa艂em maila do ich obs艂ugi klienta i teraz czekam na odpowied藕.

Progress.

After working with Joan for the last two days, I was happy the hear Bartosz say she made progress after their PT today. Now, it's just up to me to see that she does the exercises every day. There are only two exercises that she is working on.

The first is getting her to stand up from a sitting position. The problem, besides weight, is that her right foot does not start far enough back when sitting and it prevents a smooth transition from sitting to standing. I hope that if I keep reminding her about it, eventually it will become more automatic to pull her foot into a good position.

The second exercise is done laying on her back on the floor, bending her knees to get her feet closer to her butt, and then raising only her hips as high as she can to make them more flexible. Each of the exercises are done 10 times, every hour.

It was a snow day this afternoon and it is continuing into the night. I did the weekly shopping and spent 169 PLN($42), However, 30 PLN of that was for a large bag of prunes that will last for one month.

For dinner, I made a nice vegetable soup.

Teraz tylko do mnie nale偶y dopilnowanie, 偶eby codziennie wykonywa艂a 膰wiczenia. S膮 tylko dwa 膰wiczenia, nad kt贸rymi pracuje.

Pierwszym z nich jest uzyskanie jej wsta膰 z pozycji siedz膮cej. Problemem, opr贸cz wagi, jest to, 偶e jej prawa stopa nie zaczyna si臋 wystarczaj膮co daleko do ty艂u, kiedy siedzi i to uniemo偶liwia p艂ynne przej艣cie z pozycji siedz膮cej do stoj膮cej. Mam nadziej臋, 偶e je艣li b臋d臋 jej o tym przypomina膰, to w ko艅cu zacznie automatycznie ustawia膰 stop臋 w dobrej pozycji.

Ka偶de z tych 膰wicze艅 wykonuje si臋 10 razy, co godzin臋.

Na kolacj臋 zrobi艂am pyszn膮 zup臋 warzywn膮.

"Free day"?

On a day I thought would be free of "extra" things to do, it didn't turn out that way.

First, a new prescription came in that I had to go and get.

Second, there was confusion at our bank of a credit card payment I made last month. When I looked at my account, instead of the balance being zero, it was twice as much as last month. I looked through the last month of payments I made and it showed the money being taken out of the account. However, on the credit card screen, it showed no payment. I called the bank only to find out that now I have to pay for the inquiries.

I'm too impatient to wait for email transactions to clear up the problem so after a conversation, I decided I had to go to the bank to get the matter settled in my favor. Unfortunately, by that time it was rush hour so it took forever to get to the bank, settle the matter and get back. Of course, that made me miss yet another conversation with my from Bydgoszcz. This has happened so much in the past month that now it is no surprise when either one of us doesn't appear for our Skype conversation.

W dniu, o kt贸rym my艣la艂em, 偶e b臋dzie wolny od "dodatkowych" rzeczy do zrobienia, nie okaza艂 si臋 takim.

Po pierwsze, przysz艂a nowa recepta,  kt贸r膮 musia艂em p贸j艣膰 i  zrealizowa膰.

Po drugie, w naszym banku dosz艂o do zamieszania zwi膮zanego z p艂atno艣ci膮 kart膮 kredytow膮, kt贸rej dokona艂em w zesz艂ym miesi膮cu. Kiedy spojrza艂em na swoje konto, zamiast zerowego salda, by艂o ono dwa razy wi臋ksze ni偶 w zesz艂ym miesi膮cu. Przejrza艂em p艂atno艣ci z ostatniego miesi膮ca, kt贸rych dokona艂em i okaza艂o si臋, 偶e pieni膮dze zosta艂y pobrane z konta. Zadzwoni艂em do banku i dowiedzia艂em si臋, 偶e teraz musz臋 zap艂aci膰 za mo偶liwo艣膰 zadania pytania.

Jestem zbyt niecierpliwy, aby czeka膰 na transakcje e-mailowe, aby wyja艣ni膰 problem, wi臋c po rozmowie zdecydowa艂em, 偶e musz臋 i艣膰 do banku, aby za艂atwi膰 spraw臋 na moj膮 korzy艣膰. Niestety, w tym czasie by艂y ju偶 godziny szczytu, wi臋c dotarcie do banku, za艂atwienie sprawy i powr贸t zaj臋艂y ca艂膮 wieczno艣膰. Oczywi艣cie przez to omin臋艂a mnie kolejna rozmowa z moj膮 bydgoszczank膮.

Joni...and 7

80 years ago, today... December 7, 1941. “A date which will live in infamy...” I was not even born then but I have learned to remember that date. Now we have September 11th to remember.

On a different topic, How do I relax? I listen to Joni Mitchell as I have since 1967. Joan undoubtedly is the love of my lifetime. Joni is the second love. She is from the era of songwriters and performers that have somehow mostly disappeared. She takes me through a carousel of time that I knew well and I miss now that I have reached my age. Her lyrics touch my soul and release the anxiety that is now part of my daily life. I can close my eyes and recall seeing her for the first time in Washington D.C., sitting on a wooden chair right in front of her on the little stage of the Cellar Door, a little club in Georgetown.

Singing, she captivated my heart before I met Joan 8 years later. Joan was not a fan of hers so for some years but later she became a fan. It wasn't because I influenced Joan. In fact, for some years, I had to listen to Joni's albums because Joan could not appreciate Joni's voice. It was only some years later that Joan began to really listen to the words Joni had written that she became a fan. Now, sometimes we listen together because we have many mutual interests in the artists we like. It is like our love of Dali, Segovia, and Frank Lloyd Wright. We have traveled to the birthplace of all three now. We have only two more to visit, Chopin and Pavarotti.

80 lat temu, dzisiaj... 7 grudnia 1941 roku. "Data, kt贸ra b臋dzie 偶y艂a w nies艂awie..." Nawet si臋 wtedy nie urodzi艂em, ale nauczy艂em si臋 o niej pami臋ta膰. Teraz mamy 11 wrze艣nia do zapami臋tania.

Joan bez w膮tpienia jest mi艂o艣ci膮 mojego 偶ycia. Joni jest drug膮 mi艂o艣ci膮. Jest z epoki autor贸w piosenek i wykonawc贸w, kt贸rzy w wi臋kszo艣ci znikn臋li. Zabiera mnie na karuzel臋 czasu, kt贸ry dobrze zna艂em i za kt贸rym t臋skni臋 teraz, gdy osi膮gn膮艂em sw贸j wiek. Jej teksty dotykaj膮 mojej duszy i uwalniaj膮 od niepokoju, kt贸ry jest teraz cz臋艣ci膮 mojego codziennego 偶ycia.

艢piewaj膮c, podbi艂a moje serce, zanim 8 lat p贸藕niej pozna艂em Joan. Dopiero po kilku latach, kiedy Joan zacz臋艂a naprawd臋 s艂ucha膰 s艂贸w, kt贸re napisa艂a Joni, sta艂a si臋 jej fank膮. Teraz czasami razem s艂uchamy artyst贸w , kt贸rymi si臋 wsp贸lnie interesujemy i kt贸rych lubimy. Odbyli艣my ju偶 podr贸偶 do miejsc narodzin wszystkich trzech wymienionych. Pozostali nam jeszcze tylko dwaj: Chopin i Pavarotti.

Hoy hace 80 a帽os... 7 de diciembre de 1941. "Una fecha que vivir谩 en la infamia..." Yo ni siquiera hab铆a nacido entonces, pero he aprendido a recordar esa fecha.

Not good news.

Poland's government wants to control the country's internet traffic by establishing a "national operator" that would act as a proxy for private telecom companies. Similar measures are already in place in authoritarian regimes such as Russia or the Arab states.

Tested earlier this summer, the so-called "RuNet" showed that the government is now capable of isolating Russian internet users from the rest of the world. Putin's regime explains that it is meant to protect the country from "cyber-attacks" orchestrated by the West. What the Russian president means are the sanctions imposed on Russia for attacking Ukraine and human rights violations: part of those sanctions involve restricting Russian banks' access to global payment systems.

In practice, it means that in order to deliver the fastest 5G internet connection, all private telecom companies operating in Poland (Plus, T-Mobile, Orange, and Play) will have to use the "national operator" as a proxy. Without it, they will have no coverage. The state-owned operator will thus have the upper hand in controlling the type of data mobile network providers and their customers are sending, but also know the exact location of their devices.

Joan had her EEG exam done today. The place for the exam was in the northern part of Poznan at 16:00. It was during "rush hour" and it took us 1hour to get there, Normally, that drive would be 20 minutes. It was an easy examination for Joan, They just put something like a fishnet over her head that held many tiny electrodes. The clinician just sat and watched as the impulses in her brain were recorded. We will have the results on Friday to send to our neurologist.

Polski rz膮d chce kontrolowa膰 Internet w kraju poprzez ustanowienie "narodowego operatora", kt贸ry mia艂by dzia艂a膰 jako pe艂nomocnik prywatnych firm telekomunikacyjnych.

RuNet" pokaza艂, 偶e rz膮d jest w stanie odizolowa膰 rosyjskich internaut贸w od reszty 艣wiata.

W praktyce oznacza to, 偶e aby dostarczy膰 najszybszy internet 5G, wszystkie prywatne firmy telekomunikacyjne dzia艂aj膮ce w Polsce (Plus, T-Mobile, Orange, Play) b臋d膮 musia艂y korzysta膰 z po艣rednictwa "operatora narodowego". Bez niego nie b臋d膮 mia艂y zasi臋gu. Pa艅stwowy operator b臋dzie wi臋c mia艂 przewag臋 w kontrolowaniu rodzaju danych, jakie wysy艂aj膮 operatorzy sieci kom贸rkowych i ich klienci, ale tak偶e b臋dzie zna艂 dok艂adn膮 lokalizacj臋 ich urz膮dze艅.

Dzisiaj Joan mia艂a badanie EEG. Miejsce badania znajdowa艂o si臋 w p贸艂nocnej cz臋艣ci Poznania o godzinie 16:00. By艂o to w "godzinach szczytu" i dojazd zaj膮艂 nam 1 godzin臋, normalnie ten przejazd trwa艂by 20 minut.

News.

We invited our next-door neighbor to get acquainted. In the middle of our visit, Joan had another seizure. It is her 5th. Of course, it scared me like before.  Especially when her eyes were fixed to the left and it took a while for them to return to normal. I sent an SMS to the neurologist asking if there wasn't a better medicine she could take. In the last 4 months, she has had 3 seizures.

Pozna艅 archaeologists working in Sudan unearthed one of the oldest known cases of trepanation of the skull in North East Africa, dating back roughly 7,000 years. Dr. Maciej J贸rdeczka, the project’s leader, told about the discovery.

The discovery was made during excavations in the Neolithic settlement (5th-4th millennium BC) in Omdurman in Sudan.

“The dead were then buried within the settlement – it was a widely practiced custom” – told PAP Dr. Maciej J贸rdeczka from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology (IAE) PAS in Pozna艅.

Zaprosili艣my nasz膮 s膮siadk臋, mieszkaj膮c膮 obok nas, 偶eby si臋 pozna膰. W po艂owie naszej wizyty Joan mia艂a kolejny atak. To ju偶 jej pi膮ty. Oczywi艣cie przerazi艂o mnie to jak poprzednio.  Zw艂aszcza, 偶e oczy mia艂a zwr贸cone w lew膮 stron臋 i dopiero po chwili wr贸ci艂y do normy. W ci膮gu ostatnich 4 miesi臋cy mia艂a 3 napady.

Pozna艅scy archeolodzy pracuj膮cy w Sudanie odkryli jeden z najstarszych znanych przypadk贸w trepanacji czaszki w Afryce P贸艂nocno-Wschodniej, datowany na ok. 7 tys. lat. O odkryciu opowiedzia艂 kieruj膮cy projektem dr Maciej J贸rdeczka.

Odkrycia dokonano podczas wykopalisk na terenie neolitycznej osady (V-IV tysi膮clecie p.n.e.) w Omdurmanie w Sudanie.

"Zmar艂ych grzebano w贸wczas na terenie osady - by艂 to powszechnie praktykowany zwyczaj" - powiedzia艂 PAP dr Maciej J贸rdeczka z Instytutu Archeologii i Etnologii (IAE) PAN w Poznaniu.
