Dom Seniora

Gosia arrived on time at 10:00, we packed the car and took a 1 hour 15-minute drive to the village of Wegielnia where Dom Seniora was located in a forest.  The road to it was through a red pine forest with room enough for one car at a time. Surrounding the house was a security fence which Gosia was able to get open after calling the manager. We were greeted at the main door by a young girl speaking English and one of the caregivers. Inside we saw the dining room and then took the elevator to the second floor to meet the manager. She did not speak English. There were some papers for me to sign and I gave them my instructions about Joan's care.

We went to her room and the caregiver wrote Joan's name on all of the clothes for laundry purposes, The people were very nice.

After Joan was situated, we went down to have lunch together. The meal was good, actual food, When we were done, I took Joan outside for a little stroll and then returned to her room.

I talked with the physical therapist and he said there is a group therapy session but he would also work individually with Joan to get her standing and walking again.

Finally, at about 15:00(3 PM) I had to leave Joan to return home and prepare for my stay in the hospital.

If all goes well, I will write again on Saturday.

Gosia przyjecha艂a punktualnie o 10:00, zapakowali艣my rzeczy do  samochodu i jechali艣my 1 godzin臋 15 minut do wsi W臋gielnia, gdzie w okolicznym lesie znajduje si臋 Dom Seniora. Dom otoczony by艂 p艂otem, kt贸ry Gosia mog艂a otworzy膰 po telefonie do kierownika. W drzwiach wej艣ciowych przywita艂a nas m艂oda dziewczyna m贸wi膮ca po angielsku i jedna z opiekunek. Wewn膮trz obejrzeli艣my jadalni臋, a nast臋pnie wjechali艣my wind膮 na drugie pi臋tro, aby spotka膰 si臋 z kierowniczk膮. Nie m贸wi艂a po angielsku. Dosta艂em do podpisania kilka dokument贸w i przekaza艂em im moje instrukcje dotycz膮ce opieki nad Joan.

Poszli艣my do jej pokoju, a opiekunka napisa艂a imi臋 Joan na wszystkich ubraniach, kt贸re b臋d膮 oddawane do prania.

Po zakwaterowaniu Joan poszli艣my na wsp贸lny obiad. Kiedy sko艅czy艂y艣my, zabra艂em Joan na ma艂y spacer na zewn膮trz, a potem wr贸cili艣my do jej pokoju.

W ko艅cu, oko艂o 15:00 musia艂em opu艣ci膰 Joan, aby wr贸ci膰 do domu i przygotowa膰 si臋 do mojego pobytu w szpitalu.

Je艣li wszystko p贸jdzie dobrze, napisz臋 ponownie w sobot臋.

Despu茅s de acomodar a Joan, fuimos a comer juntos.

Santander.

Santander Bank, again, for the third time. This time I took my Power of Attorney to prove I had the right to go into Joan's account to approve our Polish tax statement. Guess what? They didn't accept it. Why? Because even though I had permission to do everything in her account, it did not state I could do it online or change her password. They made a scan of all of it and sent it to the main branch in Warsaw for "evaluation". They said it would take only an hour for an answer. Now, it is 5 hours later, and still no word.

I finally received an answer to my application for help from the organization MOPR. They told me what they could provide but gave me no instructions on how to actually get it started. It is not surprising to me.

Santander Bank, znowu, po raz trzeci. Zgadnijcie, co? Nie przyj臋li go. Dlaczego? Poniewa偶 mimo 偶e mia艂em pozwolenie na wszystko na jej koncie, nie by艂o tam napisane, 偶e mog臋 to zrobi膰 przez Internet ani 偶e mog臋 zmieni膰 jej has艂o. Zrobili skan tego wszystkiego i wys艂ali do g艂贸wnego oddzia艂u w Warszawie do "oceny". Powiedzieli, 偶e na odpowied藕 trzeba b臋dzie poczeka膰 godzin臋.

¿Adivina qu茅? No lo aceptaron. ¿Por qu茅?

Nice day.

After 2 nice meetings this morning, I took Joan out for a treat at the local Sowas. She had a piece of cake in Hungarian style and a cup of coffee. She didn't finish consuming either of them. It's the first time that happened but it fits into her pattern of not eating or drinking enough.

When we were finished we drove to our old Carrefour where they have clothing. I wanted to buy her 3 more sleeveless undershirts to fit under her clothing. She only has 3 and I want her to have enough clothes for at least 1 week. I found what I wanted and took them to the cashier but the lines were so long. I should have known better than to go shopping on a Saturday.

I took the clothing back and his it in the men's department behind a rack full of sweaters. Maybe they will still be there when I go back on Monday. I hope.

Dzi艣 rano, po dw贸ch mi艂ych spotkaniach zabra艂em Joan na pocz臋stunek do miejscowej kawiarni Sowa. Jad艂a kawa艂ek ciasta po w臋giersku i pi艂a fili偶ank臋 kawy.

Kiedy sko艅czyli艣my, pojechali艣my do naszego starego Carrefoura, gdzie maj膮 odzie偶. Chcia艂em kupi膰 jej jeszcze 3 podkoszulki bez r臋kaw贸w, kt贸re b臋d膮 pasowa艂y pod jej ubranie. Znalaz艂em to, co chcia艂em i uda艂em si臋 do kasy, ale kolejki by艂y d艂ugie.

Mo偶e jeszcze tam b臋d膮, gdy wr贸c臋 w poniedzia艂ek. Mam nadziej臋.

Tal vez todav铆a est茅n all铆 cuando vuelva el lunes. Eso espero

Life

I never really knew my father. By the time I was 4 years old, he found the love of his life. Unfortunately, it was not my mother and they got divorced. I grew up without a father and didn't see him again until I was 12.

At age 14, he took me on a camping trip to Iron Mountain, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. He owned a piece of property on the Paint river where we camped. Actually, he and a friend camped and I slept in the back of his Ford station wagon. However, the U.P. made a lasting impression on me that I forgot over time.

After getting over my depression of losing a musical career, I started looking for property to buy and build a house of my own. I was 40 years old at that time.

First I looked in Wisconsin but didn't find anything I wanted. It had to be remote and far enough away from people.

On Sundays, I would look in the paper ads to try to find something. One Sunday, there was a small ad for 27 acres in the Upper Peninsula. It still didn't bring back any memories but the price was reasonable and I wanted to see it.

Joan and I made the 8-hour drive and when we drove through Iron Mountain, the memories came back

The property was very remote, in the middle of a forest, and had no close neighbors. Actually, there were neighbors but far enough away. Only a small dirt road was followed until we reached a smaller road to the left. It was the beginning of the property. It went up a little hill and then some twists and turns led to a little bridge across a small stream. We parked the car and the real estate agent showed us the boundaries of the property. We followed a little footpath that went down a hill to where the stream was continuing. I thought that would be a good place to put my teepee where I would live while building the house. The stream would be my source of water.

At the time, I had plans to build an octagon house but after building the foundation and getting the 20-foot logs in place from each wall, I decided it was foolish to think I could build it in one year.

So, I went back to Joan's and designed a much smaller house that I did build in less than one year with the help of my 10-year-old son, Eric, and a few friends. It was an experience he never forgot, nor have I.

Very interesting pictures of Poznan. right side of blog.

Gdy mia艂em 4 lata, znalaz艂 mi艂o艣膰 swojego 偶ycia. Niestety, nie by艂a ni膮 moja matka i rozwiedli si臋. Wychowywa艂em si臋 bez ojca i nie widzia艂em go a偶 do 12 roku 偶ycia.

W wieku 14 lat zabra艂 mnie na kemping do Iron Mountain w Michigan, na G贸rnym P贸艂wyspie Apeni艅skim. Posiada艂 tam dzia艂k臋 nad rzek膮 Paint, gdzie rozbili艣my ob贸z. W艂a艣ciwie to on i jego przyjaciel rozbili ob贸z, a ja spa艂em z ty艂u jego forda kombi.

Po wyj艣ciu z depresji spowodowanej utrat膮 kariery muzycznej zacz膮艂em szuka膰 nieruchomo艣ci, aby kupi膰 i zbudowa膰 w艂asny dom.

W niedziele przegl膮da艂em og艂oszenia w gazetach, aby spr贸bowa膰 co艣 znale藕膰. Pewnej niedzieli by艂o tam ma艂e og艂oszenie o 27 akrach w G贸rnym P贸艂wyspie.

Joan i ja wybrali艣my si臋 w 8-godzinn膮 podr贸偶, a kiedy przeje偶d偶ali艣my przez Iron Mountain, wspomnienia wr贸ci艂y.

W艂a艣ciwie to byli tam s膮siedzi, ale do艣膰 daleko. Jechali艣my tylko ma艂膮 poln膮 drog膮, a偶 dotarli艣my do mniejszej drogi po lewej stronie. To by艂 pocz膮tek posiad艂o艣ci. Zaparkowali艣my samoch贸d, a agent nieruchomo艣ci pokaza艂 nam granice posiad艂o艣ci. Poszli艣my ma艂膮 艣cie偶k膮, kt贸ra prowadzi艂a w d贸艂 wzg贸rza, do miejsca, gdzie p艂yn膮艂 strumie艅. Pomy艣la艂em, 偶e b臋dzie to dobre miejsce na postawienie mojego tipi, w kt贸rym b臋d臋 mieszka艂 podczas budowy domu. Strumie艅 by艂by moim 藕r贸d艂em wody.

Wr贸ci艂em wi臋c do Joan i zaprojektowa艂em znacznie mniejszy dom, kt贸ry zbudowa艂em w mniej ni偶 rok z pomoc膮 mojego 10-letniego syna Erica i kilku przyjaci贸艂. By艂o to do艣wiadczenie, kt贸rego on nigdy nie zapomnia艂, podobnie jak ja".

Shopping day.

Thursday is the day when I get up at 6:00 in the morning to do food shopping. Why 06:00? It started with the pandemic and wanting to avoid people. Now, there are NO restrictions but I like being one of the very few people in the store. I usually and done in 45 minutes to 1 hour at the most. I am fairly acquainted now with Carrefour in the Panorama shopping center so it is much easier to know where everything is. I usually then go to Lidl to buy fruits and vegetables because they have a bigger selection. The cost for this coming week's food was 172 PLN($40)

Other than food shopping, there wasn't much else going on except picking up the results of my blood type. I already knew what it was but I needed an official document for the hospital.

During the first Cold War, the local government thought it was a good idea to have children's blood type tattooed on the side of the body. Oddly enough, my one-room schoolhouse was the only one that did it. Later in life I thought maybe I was part of a government experiment,

Czwartek to dzie艅, w kt贸rym wstaj臋 o 6:00 rano, aby zrobi膰 zakupy spo偶ywcze. Dlaczego o 6:00? Zacz臋艂o si臋 od pandemii i ch臋ci unikni臋cia ludzi. Zwykle potem id臋 do Lidla, 偶eby kupi膰 owoce i warzywa, bo maj膮 tam wi臋kszy wyb贸r. Koszt jedzenia na najbli偶szy tydzie艅 wyni贸s艂 172 PLN (40 USD).

Poza zakupami spo偶ywczymi nie dzia艂o si臋 wiele wi臋cej, poza odebraniem wynik贸w bada艅 mojej grupy krwi.

Always late.

Another one of the many days when there is hardly enough time to do everything outside of the flat that needed to be done.

First I had to pick up the large suitcase to pack Joan's clothes in for next week. Our friend Michal was keeping it stored in his house in Paczkowo.

Next, I had to drive to the other side of town to get the supply of diapers for the next 3 months. The prescription was for one year, started last year, so I had to go back to that pharmacy.

When that was done I had to go to Santander bank to get a new password to get into Joan's account so I could verify her tax return. With 5 people ahead in the line, it took much longer than I expected. Needless to say, the password they gave me didn't work so I will have to go back to the bank again.

Finally, I had to find a place to buy the required pajamas for my stay in the hospital next week.

Recepta by艂a na rok, zacz臋艂a si臋 w zesz艂ym roku, wi臋c musia艂em wr贸ci膰 do tej apteki, w kt贸rej zacz膮艂em j膮 realizowa膰.

Kiedy to zrobi艂em, musia艂em uda膰 si臋 do banku Santander, aby uzyska膰 nowe has艂o dost臋pu do konta Joan, dzi臋ki kt贸remu m贸g艂bym potwierdzi膰 jej zeznanie podatkowe. Nie musz臋 dodawa膰, 偶e has艂o, kt贸re mi podali, nie zadzia艂a艂o, wi臋c b臋d臋 musia艂 wr贸ci膰 do banku ponownie.

More friends.

Yesterday, 2 more friends came and brought another basket filled with food. Maybe I shouldn't have bought any food last week.

Today I filed my Polish tax but was unable to do Joan's. I have to go to Santander bank to get an electronic certificate for Joan before I can file her taxes.

The rest of the day was spent resting and not doing much at all.

Wczoraj przysz艂y kolejne dwie  przyjaci贸艂ki i przynios艂y nast臋pny kosz wype艂niony jedzeniem. Mo偶e nie powinienem by艂 kupowa膰 jedzenia w zesz艂ym tygodniu.

Dzisiaj z艂o偶y艂em sw贸j polski pit, ale nie uda艂o mi si臋 odda膰 piru Joan. Musz臋 i艣膰 do banku Santander, aby uzyska膰 elektroniczny certyfikat dla Joan, zanim b臋d臋 m贸g艂 z艂o偶y膰 jej zeznanie podatkowe.

Friend.

Friend-a person with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically one exclusive of sexual or family relations.

As I am sure I mentioned before, Joan and I have a very good circle of friends. one of them is Renata. I met her years ago when she asked me to help her teenagers improve their speaking in English. Over some years as I helped Andrea, Kuba, and Max improve, I became friends with Renata.

Last night at 8:15, she called me and said she was bringing us some food for celebrating Easter. In 15 minutes she was at our door with a large basket of different types of food including dessert. While she was making up the basket, she decided to add other items. Everything was homemade. We have enough now for 2 or maybe 3 days. She said she is celebrating Easter with a guest family of 6 people who has escaped from Ukraine.

We sat and talked for about an hour during which she brought me up to date on the lives of her now-adult children. Andrea is doing very well teaching English to grammar school children. Kuba is doing quite well working for a firm near Kobylniki, and Max is still in the United States, Colorado, working for a financial firm. It was good to hear of their success.

Our bond of mutual affection is because of her children but also because Renata is a strong woman who runs her own company and was the sole supporter of her children for many years like my own mother was.

If you can have more than one "best" time in your life, the first would be falling in love with Joan. The second would be living in the forest of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The picture above shows that. Even in winter, it was possible to sit in the snow and relax. With my house not completed and wrapped in heavy plastic, it was warm inside from the heat of the woodstove I had bought from Scandinavia. Mu Sorrel boots kept my feet warm when I was outside and the leggings I made from a deer's hide kept my pants dry from the deep snow. Sitting by the flowing stream, the green bucket allowed me to bring 5 gallons of water into the house to use for drinking, cooking, and washing dishes.

A car-battery operated boom box let me listen to dozens of music tapes I had or listen to the radio. I had dozens of books to read and I could cross-country ski to anywhere I might have wanted to go. Of course, it was hard being almost 500 miles away from Joan for long periods of time but I was always occupied doing whatever I wanted to do on any given day. There was no 9-5 work schedule because I didn't work for the 5 years I was in my house. As you can see, there was no need to go to a barber.

It was so quiet in the forest you could almost hear the snowfall when it snowed and it snowed often. I had little pathways to my outside toilet, to the stream, and up the hill to the dirt road/snow-covered road that took me out to the bigger road to town, 15 miles away in Marquette. All I had to do was ski to where my Ford F-150 truck was parked.  I loved those years and this picture reminds me of all of them.

Happy Easter or Passover to all of my readers.

Przez kilka lat, kiedy pomaga艂em Andrei, Kubie i Maxowi w doskonaleniu j臋zyka, zaprzyja藕ni艂em si臋 z Renat膮.

Wczoraj wieczorem o 8:15 zadzwoni艂a do mnie i powiedzia艂a, 偶e przywiezie nam troch臋 jedzenia na Wielkanoc. Kiedy przygotowywa艂a koszyk, postanowi艂a doda膰 jeszcze inne rzeczy. Wszystko by艂o domowej roboty. Wystarczy nam na dwa, mo偶e trzy dni. Powiedzia艂a, 偶e 艣wi臋tuje Wielkanoc z go艣cmi, 6-osobow膮 rodzin膮, kt贸ra uciek艂a z Ukrainy.

Siedzieli艣my i rozmawiali艣my przez oko艂o godzin臋, podczas kt贸rej przedstawi艂a mi najnowsze informacje o 偶yciu swoich doros艂ych ju偶 dzieci. Andrea bardzo dobrze sobie radzi, ucz膮c angielskiego dzieci w szkole. Kuba nie藕le sobie radzi, pracuj膮c w firmie niedaleko Kobylnik, a Maks nadal przebywa w Stanach Zjednoczonych, w stanie Kolorado, pracuj膮c w firmie finansowej. Mi艂o by艂o us艂ysze膰 o ich sukcesie.

Drugim by艂oby 偶ycie w lesie na G贸rnym P贸艂wyspie Michigan. Powy偶sze zdj臋cie to pokazuje. Nawet w zimie mo偶na by艂o usi膮艣膰 na 艣niegu i odpocz膮膰. Poniewa偶 m贸j dom nie zosta艂 uko艅czony i by艂 owini臋ty ci臋偶kim plastikiem, w 艣rodku by艂o ciep艂o od pieca na drewno, kt贸ry kupi艂em w Skandynawii. Buty Mu Sorrel utrzymywa艂y moje stopy w cieple, kiedy by艂em na zewn膮trz, a legginsy, kt贸re zrobi艂em ze sk贸ry jelenia, chroni艂y moje spodnie przed g艂臋bokim 艣niegiem. Umiejscowienie nad p艂yn膮cym strumieniem pozwala艂o  mi przynie艣膰 do domu przy pomocy zielonego wiadra 5 galon贸w wody do picia, gotowania i mycia naczy艅.

Boombox zasilany bateri膮 samochodow膮 pozwala艂 mi s艂ucha膰 dziesi膮tek kaset z muzyk膮, kt贸re mia艂em, lub radia. Oczywi艣cie, ci臋偶ko by艂o przebywa膰 przez d艂u偶szy czas prawie 500 mil od Joan, ale zawsze by艂em zaj臋ty robieniem tego, co chcia艂em robi膰 danego dnia.

W lesie by艂o tak cicho, 偶e prawie s艂ycha膰 by艂o padaj膮cy 艣nieg, a 艣nieg pada艂 cz臋sto. Wszystko, co musia艂em zrobi膰, to zjecha膰 na nartach do miejsca, gdzie sta艂 zaparkowany m贸j samoch贸d Ford F-150.  Uwielbia艂em te lata, a to zdj臋cie przypomina mi je wszystkie.

Clouds.

I watched the sun go behind a large gray cloud this afternoon. I kept looking at the cloud and saw the heat of the sun burn a hole and followed the path until it finally came into full view. It was a nice experience

KYIV/MARIUPOL, Ukraine, April 16 (Reuters) - Russia's warplanes bombed Lviv and its missiles struck Kyiv and Kharkiv on Saturday, as Moscow followed through on a threat to launch more long-range attacks on Ukrainian cities after its Black Sea Fleet's flagship was sunk.

Joan and I spent a week in Lviv. We ate at the famous Barczynsli restaurant and I bought a bottle of their famous vodka to bring back home. It is a beautiful city. With a guide, we visited the opera house and a few other places. I loved one of their chocolate factories of which there are several. The one we visited was in an old 3-story building.

On the ground floor, you could watch them make the chocolate. On the second floor, they sold their chocolate products made in all kinds of forms; shoes, books, churches, various animals, bars of chocolate, and buildings.

On almost every corner of the main square, there were coffee shops and many restaurants. Behind where we stayed was a palace of a famous Polish king that we visited.

There should be fighter planes given to Ukraine before the evil Putin destroys it all.

Dzi艣 po po艂udniu patrzy艂em, jak s艂o艅ce zachodzi za du偶膮 szar膮 chmur臋. Patrzy艂em na chmur臋 i widzia艂em, jak ciep艂o s艂o艅ca wypala w niej dziur臋 i pod膮偶a艂em t膮 艣cie偶k膮, a偶 w ko艅cu pojawi艂a si臋 w pe艂nym 艣wietle. To by艂o mi艂e do艣wiadczenie

Joanna i ja sp臋dzili艣my tydzie艅 we Lwowie. Jedli艣my w s艂ynnej restauracji Barczynsli, a ja kupi艂em butelk臋 ich s艂ynnej w贸dki, 偶eby przywie藕膰 j膮 do domu. To pi臋kne miasto. Z przewodnikiem zwiedzili艣my oper臋 i kilka innych miejsc. Ta, kt贸r膮 odwiedzili艣my, mie艣ci艂a si臋 w starym, trzypi臋trowym budynku.

Na drugim pi臋trze sprzedawano wyroby czekoladowe w najr贸偶niejszych postaciach: but贸w, ksi膮偶ek, ko艣cio艂贸w, r贸偶nych zwierz膮t, tabliczek czekolady i budynk贸w.

Za miejscem, w kt贸rym si臋 zatrzymali艣my, znajdowa艂 si臋 pa艂ac s艂ynnego polskiego kr贸la, kt贸ry zwiedzili艣my.

Ukraina powinna otrzyma膰 samoloty bojowe, zanim z艂y Putin wszystko zniszczy.

Alarms.

The alarms went off at 6:30 but I didn't hear them. Instead, I woke up at 8:30, quickly dressed, and went to Carrefour for food shopping. An hour later I was done and back home. The cost for next week's food was 162 PLN($38)

2 hours after breakfast, I put Joan in the wheelchair, then to the car and we went to the local post office to pick up the new battery I bought for Joan's phone. I don't want her to have any problems with her phone while she is in Dom Seniora. Ada also bought a 3-meter charging cord for the phone which I will tape to the phone so it is always charged.

From there I took her to Sowas to sit outside while we had coffee. Across from our table was a young couple with 2 daughters about 8-10 years old. They were speaking Ukrainian. I wanted to try and talk to them but the opportunity didn't arise.

Back to the war. It was told today the Ukrainians attacked the Flagship, Moskva, of the Russian Navy on the Black Sea. It was heavily damaged and the crew of 500 had to evacuate the ship. They also said it was sinking but the Russian defense minister denied it.

Budziki w艂膮czy艂y si臋 o 6:30, ale ich nie us艂ysza艂em. Za艂atwi艂em wszystko w godzin臋 i wr贸ci艂em do domu. Koszt jedzenia na nast臋pny tydzie艅 wyni贸s艂 162 z艂 (38 $).

2 godziny po 艣niadaniu wsadzi艂em Joan do w贸zka, potem do samochodu i pojechali艣my na poczt臋, aby odebra膰 now膮 bateri臋, kt贸r膮 kupi艂em do telefonu Joan. Nie chc臋, 偶eby mia艂a jakiekolwiek problemy z telefonem podczas pobytu w Domu Seniora. Ada kupi艂a r贸wnie偶 3-metrowy kabel do 艂adowania telefonu, kt贸ry przyklej臋 ta艣m膮 do telefonu, aby zawsze by艂 na艂adowany.

Stamt膮d zabra艂am j膮 do Sowy, gdzie usiedli艣my na zewn膮trz przy kawie. Naprzeciwko naszego stolika siedzia艂o m艂ode ma艂偶e艅stwo z dwiema c贸rkami w wieku oko艂o 8-10 lat. M贸wili po ukrai艅sku.

Wracaj膮c do wojny.

Doctor, Doctor

Good doctor Janicki called me this morning at 8:35. I told him what I needed and he said the EKG could be done today at 12:00. the referrals would be waiting for me. That was good news. Tomorrow I will go early to have the other tests done at a lab close to home.

I would like to thank anyone who contributed to paying for Joan's stay in Dom Seniora.

Today the weather was 18C. clear skies and sunny. It will stay like that for 2 days and then get colder again.

I took one of our rugs to the cleaners today. Zbyszek told me last year which cleaner could do that. It will take 2 weeks but I will have to arrange for someone to pick it up since I will be in the hospital.

Of course, there is more news on the war but I put it on my FB page. It covers the statement by Putin that 1,025 marines have surrendered in Mariupol, the beautiful city is no longer that.

Dobry doktor Janicki zadzwoni艂 do mnie dzi艣 rano o 8:35. Skierowania b臋d膮 na mnie czeka艂y. To by艂a dobra wiadomo艣膰. Jutro p贸jd臋 wcze艣niej, aby wykona膰 inne badania w laboratorium niedaleko domu.

Chcia艂bym podzi臋kowa膰 wszystkim, kt贸rzy przyczynili si臋 do op艂acenia pobytu Joan w Domu Seniora.

Dzisiaj by艂o 18°C, czyste niebo i s艂o艅ce. Tak b臋dzie jeszcze przez dwa dni, a potem znowu zrobi si臋 ch艂odniej.

Zanios艂em dzi艣 do pralni jeden z naszych dywan贸w. Zbyszek powiedzia艂 mi w zesz艂ym roku, kt贸ra pralnia mo偶e to zrobi膰. B臋dzie to trwa艂o 2 tygodnie, ale b臋d臋 musia艂 zorganizowa膰 kogo艣, kto go odbierze, bo b臋d臋 w szpitalu.

Las referencias me estar铆an esperando.

Hoy hab铆a 18°C, cielo despejado y sol. Estar谩 as铆 dos d铆as m谩s y luego volver谩 a refrescar.

Zbyszek me dijo el a帽o pasado qu茅 lavander铆a pod铆a hacerlo.

Przychodnia

That is the Polish word for a clinic. During our tears living in our old flat, our clinic was very convenient, on the ground floor of our building. It was a national healthcare clinic(NFZ) and per NFZ, doctors were always rotated to other clinics after a given period of time. We didn't have the same one all during that time. Sometimes we were lucky to have one who spoke English also. Last year there was one such doctor and it made it easier to communicate.  However, a new system has been put into place and it is difficult to connect by phone. So, until I find a clinic closer to our new flat, I have been driving to the old clinic.

I needed referrals from the doctor to have 3 tests done before I go into the hospital. I sent an email to them from their website URL and it was rejected as undeliverable. I searched through old saved messages and found another email address that worked. A reply came yesterday that I had to have a phone conversation today at 12:20 with the doctor first, and he would call me. This morning I received a message that the meeting was canceled with no future time given. I had to drive to the old clinic just to get a new time set. The doctor happened to be there with no patient waiting but I was told that first I had to have a phone conversation. The new time is tomorrow at 8:45. It takes 5 minutes to write the referrals and it could have been easily done while I was there today.

The war has not ended...LVIV, Ukraine, April 12 (Reuters) - Ukraine on Tuesday said it arrested the Kremlin's most prominent ally in the country as Russian President Vladimir Putin gave his strongest signal yet the war will grind on, warning peace talks were at a dead end.

In February, Ukraine said Viktor Medvedchuk, the leader of the Opposition Platform - For Life party, escaped from house arrest after the authorities opened a treason case against him.

The pro-Russian figure, who says Putin is godfather to his daughter, has denied wrongdoing. On Tuesday a spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.

Hours earlier Putin used his first public comments on the conflict in more than a week to insist Russia will "rhythmically and calmly" continue its operation, citing the need to achieve goals on security.

"That Blitzkrieg on which our foes were counting did not work," he said, batting aside the impact of sanctions and warning that on-and-off peace talks were in a "dead-end situation."

Here in Poznan, Officials inform about the progress of works on the Old Market Square. The old surface has already been removed from many places and one of the biggest drilling rigs in Poland appeared yesterday at the City Hall. After the renovation is completed, the Old Market will surely be more comfortable for Pozna艅 residents and tourists - we read on the city's profile on social media. We would like to remind you that the reconstruction is not only about changing the paving blocks but also about building the retention tanks and exchanging the whole underground network, which urgently needs to be modernized and put in order - officials add.

The renovation of the Old Market Square is to be completed by the end of next year.-Source-epoznan.pl

By艂a to przychodnia pa艅stwowej s艂u偶by zdrowia (NFZ) i w ramach NFZ lekarze zawsze byli przenoszeni do innych przychodni po okre艣lonym czasie. Czasami mieli艣my szcz臋艣cie trafi膰 na takiego, kt贸ry m贸wi艂 r贸wnie偶 po angielsku. W zesz艂ym roku by艂 jeden taki lekarz i u艂atwia艂o to komunikacj臋. Dop贸ki wi臋c nie znajd臋 przychodni bli偶ej naszego nowego mieszkania, je偶d偶臋 do starej przychodni.

Potrzebowa艂am skierowania od lekarza, aby wykona膰 3 badania przed p贸j艣ciem do szpitala. Przeszuka艂am stare zapisane wiadomo艣ci i znalaz艂am inny adres e-mail, kt贸ry dzia艂a艂. Wczoraj przysz艂a odpowied藕, 偶e najpierw musz臋 odby膰 rozmow臋 telefoniczn膮 z lekarzem dzi艣 o 12:20, a on do mnie zadzwoni. Dzi艣 rano otrzyma艂em wiadomo艣膰, 偶e spotkanie zosta艂o odwo艂ane bez podania przysz艂ej godziny. Musia艂am pojecha膰 do starej przychodni, aby ustali膰 now膮 godzin臋. Lekarz akurat tam by艂, a 偶aden pacjent nie czeka艂, ale powiedziano mi, 偶e najpierw musz臋 odby膰 rozmow臋 telefoniczn膮. Nowy termin jest jutro o 8:45. Wypisanie skierowania zajmuje 5 minut i mo偶na to by艂o 艂atwo zrobi膰, kiedy by艂em tam dzisiaj.

Wojna si臋 nie sko艅czy艂a...LVIV, Ukraina, 12 kwietnia (Reuters) - Ukraina we wtorek poinformowa艂a, 偶e aresztowa艂a najbardziej prominentnego sojusznika Kremla w kraju, podczas gdy prezydent Rosji W艂adimir Putin da艂 najmocniejszy jak dot膮d sygna艂, 偶e wojna b臋dzie si臋 toczy膰 dalej, ostrzegaj膮c, 偶e rozmowy pokojowe utkn臋艂y w martwym punkcie.

Ten prorosyjski polityk, kt贸ry twierdzi, 偶e Putin jest ojcem chrzestnym jego c贸rki, zaprzeczy艂, jakoby dopu艣ci艂 si臋 wykroczenia. We wtorek rzecznik prasowy nie by艂 w stanie natychmiast udzieli膰 komentarza.

Kilka godzin wcze艣niej Putin po raz pierwszy od ponad tygodnia publicznie wypowiedzia艂 si臋 na temat konfliktu, podkre艣laj膮c, 偶e Rosja b臋dzie "rytmicznie i spokojnie" kontynuowa膰 operacj臋, powo艂uj膮c si臋 na konieczno艣膰 osi膮gni臋cia cel贸w w zakresie bezpiecze艅stwa.

"Ten blitzkrieg, na kt贸ry liczyli nasi wrogowie, nie zadzia艂a艂" - powiedzia艂, odrzucaj膮c wp艂yw sankcji i ostrzegaj膮c, 偶e trwaj膮ce od d艂u偶szego czasu rozmowy pokojowe znalaz艂y si臋 w "艣lepym zau艂ku".

Tutaj, w Poznaniu, urz臋dnicy informuj膮 o post臋pach prac na Starym Rynku. W wielu miejscach usuni臋to ju偶 star膮 nawierzchni臋, a wczoraj pod Ratuszem pojawi艂a si臋 jedna z najwi臋kszych wiertnic w Polsce.

Remont Starego Rynku ma si臋 zako艅czy膰 do ko艅ca przysz艂ego roku.-殴r贸d艂o-epoznan.pl

As铆 que, hasta que encuentre una cl铆nica m谩s cercana a nuestro nuevo piso, he estado conduciendo hasta la antigua cl铆nica.

Spring?

The Spring weather we had 2 weeks ago was overrun by a return of pre-winter weather. It has been gray, cloudy, and cold with intermittent rain since then. The forecast says 18C on Wednesday so maybe Spring will finally win the weather war. Yesterday in the place where we stayed it was 28C, here it was 8C. I really hope the weather will improve before I have to put Joan in the Dom Seniora to stay for 1 month.

We've been watching an interesting series,  "This Is Us" that we really like. Joan has some trouble following the storyline because it changes from the past to the present quite often so I have to tell when it changes.

Talking with Carmelo yesterday, he said Spain is in a fiesta mood for the whole week leading up to Easter. There will be processions every day in different cities and he gave me a website where they will broadcast them on TV...Televisi贸n murciana en directo. It is not a pay program, it's free.

Wiosenna pogoda, kt贸r膮 mieli艣my 2 tygodnie temu, zosta艂a wyparta przez powr贸t pogody przedwiosennej. Prognoza na 艣rod臋 m贸wi o 18°C, wi臋c mo偶e wiosna w ko艅cu wygra t臋 pogodow膮 wojn臋. Wczoraj w miejscu w Hiszpanii, w kt贸rym si臋 zatrzymywali艣my, by艂o 28°C, a tutaj 8°C. Mam nadziej臋, 偶e pogoda si臋 poprawi, zanim b臋d臋 musia艂 umie艣ci膰 Joan w Domu Seniora na 1 miesi膮c.

Ogl膮damy ciekawy serial "This Is Us", kt贸ry bardzo nam si臋 podoba.

Wczoraj, kiedy rozmawia艂em  z Carmelo powiedzia艂 mi,  偶e w Hiszpanii przez ca艂y tydzie艅 poprzedzaj膮cy Wielkanoc panuje nastr贸j fiesty. Codziennie w r贸偶nych miastach b臋d膮 procesje i poda艂 mi stron臋 internetow膮, gdzie b臋d膮 je transmitowa膰 w telewizji: Televisi贸n murciana en directo.

Hemos estado viendo una serie interesante, "This Is Us" que nos gusta mucho.

No sirens.

In Poland, the sirens sound every year on August 1. at 17:00 CEST to commemorate the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. Polis authorities have announced that the sirens wail across Poland today at 8:41(CEST) as part of a testing exercise of the early warning system, and to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the Smolensk plane crash. Several municipalities have declined to follow the recommendation, including Warsaw and Poznan.

The Mayor of Warsaw said that "The government has ordered the sirens to sound on the anniversary of the Smolensk plane crash, in a city that hosts 120,000 traumatized Ukrainian children, who are scared even of the sound of a flying airplane. The sirens are under the jurisdiction of regional authorities. I appeal to the authorities to maintain silence," Mayor Traskowski wrote on social media. The request comes as over 330,000 refugees are currently sheltering in the capital, including 120,000 children. The aim of this action is to protect an already traumatized population.

I see his point about traumatized children. No doubt it will just bring back the fear they experience in Ukraine and bring it to the front of their memories. People stop when they hear the sirens but on this day they know what happened and do they remember by themselves or only because they are reminded by the sirens?

Syreny znajduj膮 si臋 w gestii w艂adz obwodowych. Apeluj臋 do w艂adz o zachowanie ciszy" - napisa艂 w mediach spo艂eczno艣ciowych burmistrz Traskowski.

Rozumiem, 偶e chodzi mu o dzieci, kt贸re prze偶y艂y traum臋.

Haircuts

Today was our day for haircuts. We left early enough to be on time, 13:30(1:30 PM). However, all of the major streets leading to the location are under construction, and the only way I could get there was to backup on a one-way street going out only.

While Joan was getting her haircut, I walked a short distance to the Rynek to see if the outside cafes were open. They can usually open on April 1st. Except for the sidewalk around the Rynek, it had a fence all the way around it.  All of the cobblestone walking areas are gone and only the dirt is visible. It is the beginning of the renovation to modernize with large tiles to make it easier to walk around. For the last two years, Joan and I have not been there because the cobblestone is too hard to manipulate with the wheelchair she uses. Once it is finished(who knows how many years that will take) we will be able to go back. Some of the cafes have tables on the sidewalk but this will definitely affect tourism.

There are only 2 news services I trust, Reuters and News&Guts(Dan Rather's organization). I have been posting Reuters war news on this blog too much, I think, so I am trying to do it on my FB page instead I think most of you are aware of the war but not getting all of the news in the U.S.

Dzisiaj by艂 nasz dzie艅 na strzy偶enie. Wyjechali艣my na tyle wcze艣nie, 偶e zd膮偶yli艣my na czas, o 13:30 (1:30 PM).

Podczas gdy Joan by艂a u fryzjera, przeszed艂em kawa艂ek do Rynku, 偶eby sprawdzi膰, czy kawiarnie na zewn膮trz lokali s膮 otwarte. Zwykle mo偶na je otworzy膰 1 kwietnia. Z wyj膮tkiem chodnika wok贸艂 Rynku, plac by艂  ogrodzony na ca艂ej d艂ugo艣ci.  Wszystkie brukowane chodniki znikn臋艂y i wida膰 tylko ziemi臋.

Ufam tylko dw贸m serwisom informacyjnym: Reuters i News&Guts (organizacja Dana Rathera). My艣l臋, 偶e wi臋kszo艣膰 z Was wie o wojnie, ale nie otrzymuje wszystkich wiadomo艣ci z USA.

Z

After doing some errands that took me back to our old neighborhood, I stopped at the old Sowas for a coffee. I sat at the table for 3 people where Joan, myself, and our good friend Zbyszek used to sit every Wednesday for our weekly meeting. Now I was sitting there and looking at 2 empty chairs. Much has changed in the last year so now I can only remember those old meetings with a feeling of the loss of Zbyszek and the poor condition of my wife Joan. Instead of feeling sad, I thought about all the conversations the three of us used to have and how I looked forward to those Wednesdays.

Zbyszek and Joan liked each but their personalities were so different. Zbyszek was from the old male domination time and Joan was a free spirit who always spoke her mind to him on any subject. Every week I knew there would be small confrontations between them when Joan wouldn't agree with him on some topic. Z would try to persuade her she was wrong but she refused his logic most of the time. However, in the end, we always parted as good friends and looked forward to the next meeting.  I hold those good memories close to me. Z was the first person who really helped us when we moved here and his help continued until he passed away last November. We have several good friends now but Zbyszek will always be #1.

That is the biggest drawback of getting older. You start losing family members and good friends. It hurts that they are gone but they are not, really. As long as you can remember them, only their physical body is missing. I still have memories that stretch back decades so I remember them all. My brother died almost 50 years ago but he is still alive in me. The love you felt for them does not die as long as you live.

On another note, food shopping for the week was 188 PLN($44) but 30 PLN of that was for a new mop so the actual cost was 158 PLN($37). Making meals that last 2 days is the only way to keep the cost down.

Zbyszek by艂 z epoki m臋skiej dominacji, a Joan by艂a wolnym duchem, kt贸ry zawsze m贸wi艂 mu swoje zdanie na ka偶dy temat. W ko艅cu jednak zawsze rozstawali艣my si臋 jako dobrzy przyjaciele i z niecierpliwo艣ci膮 czekali艣my na kolejne spotkanie.  Te dobre wspomnienia s膮 mi bardzo bliskie. Zbyszek by艂 pierwsz膮 osob膮, kt贸ra naprawd臋 nam pomog艂a, gdy si臋 tu przeprowadzili艣my i ta pomoc trwa艂a a偶 do jego 艣mierci w listopadzie ubieg艂ego roku. Mamy teraz kilku dobrych przyjaci贸艂, ale Zbyszek zawsze b臋dzie numerem jeden.

Ja wci膮偶 mam wspomnienia si臋gaj膮ce kilkudziesi臋ciu lat wstecz, wi臋c pami臋tam je wszystkie. M贸j brat zmar艂 prawie 50 lat temu, ale nadal we mnie 偶yje. Mi艂o艣膰, kt贸r膮 si臋 do nich czu艂o, nie umiera tak d艂ugo, jak d艂ugo si臋 偶yje.

Robienie posi艂k贸w, kt贸re wystarcz膮 na dwa dni, to jedyny spos贸b, aby utrzyma膰 koszty na niskim poziomie.

Ahora estaba sentado all铆 y miraba dos sillas vac铆as.

Empiezas a perder familiares y buenos amigos.

New sanctions.

WASHINGTON, April 6 (Reuters) -"The United States targeted Russian banks and elites with a new package of sanctions on Wednesday that includes banning any American from investing in Russia, after Washington and Kyiv accused Moscow of committing war crimes in Ukraine.

The new sanctions will put full blocking sanctions in Russia's Sberbank (SBER.MM), which holds one-third of Russia's total banking assets, and Alfabank, a senior U.S. official told reporters. Energy transactions are blocked from these sanctions, the official said".

Why not sanctions on the energy sector? Yes, it would hurt the economies of countries belonging to the European Union but people are dying in Ukraine. Executed, murdered, raped tortured, and bodies defiled. How much longer will they let this continue? These are war crimes and the UN had NO power to stop them. Russia is a permanent member of the UN Security Council and would veto any proposition about war crimes and so would China. NATO has NO power. Russia should be removed from the Council.

Nowe sankcje obejm膮 pe艂n膮 blokad臋 rosyjskiego banku Sberbank (SBER.MM), kt贸ry posiada jedn膮 trzeci膮 wszystkich rosyjskich aktyw贸w bankowych, oraz Alfabanku - powiedzia艂 dziennikarzom wysoki rang膮 urz臋dnik USA. Sankcje nie obejmuj膮 transakcji w sektorze energetycznym" - powiedzia艂 urz臋dnik.

Rozstrzeliwani, mordowani, gwa艂ceni, torturowani, a cia艂a s膮 bezczeszczone. To s膮 zbrodnie wojenne, a ONZ nie mia艂a 呕ADNYCH uprawnie艅, aby je powstrzyma膰. Rosja jest sta艂ym cz艂onkiem Rady Bezpiecze艅stwa ONZ i zawetowa艂aby ka偶d膮 propozycj臋 dotycz膮c膮 zbrodni wojennych, podobnie jak Chiny.

Lost in the shuffle.

Humanity has less than three years to halt the rise in carbon dioxide emissions that are warming the planet and less than a decade to cut them nearly in half, the United Nations reported Monday in a landmark report on halting global warming and ensuring a "livable future."

In light of the war in Ukraine, nothing has been said about stopping the destruction of the planet. Shouldn't there be a war against that? For decades scientists have warned about the coming problem but still, today, very little is being done to prevent it. At my age, it should not be a cause for worry but it is. We have grandchildren who will suffer because of the lack of response from the older generations. Everyone is united because of the aggression of Putin with his miserable army attacking Ukraine. Why are we not all united to save this planet we live on? Why are governments and private industries not working to combat it? The war in Ukraine will end, one way or another, but when will the war against climate change really begin? Setting goals to be met in 2030 or 2050 is ridiculous. By that time it will be too late. Don't tell me there have always been changes in the climate before. That is true but what has been happening in the last 10 years is unprecedented

Those children who are lucky enough to survive the war, what future do they have to look forward to?

Speaking of the war..........

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON, April 4 (Reuters) - The United States stopped the Russian government on Monday from paying holders of its sovereign debt more than $600 million from reserves held at American banks, in a move meant to ratchet up pressure on Moscow and eat into its holdings of U.S. dollars.

The move was meant to force Moscow to make the difficult decision of whether it would use dollars that it has access to for payments on its debt or for other purposes, including supporting its war effort, the spokesperson said.

Russia faces a historic default if it chooses to not do so.

"Russia must choose between draining remaining valuable dollar reserves or new revenue coming in, or default," the spokesperson said.

Mamy wnuki, kt贸re b臋d膮 cierpie膰 z powodu braku reakcji ze strony starszych pokole艅. Wszyscy s膮 zjednoczeni z powodu agresji Putina i jego n臋dznej armii atakuj膮cych Ukrain臋. Dlaczego nie zjednoczyli艣my si臋, aby ratowa膰 planet臋, na kt贸rej 偶yjemy? Do tego czasu b臋dzie ju偶 za p贸藕no. Nie m贸wcie mi, 偶e zmiany klimatu zawsze wyst臋powa艂y  wcze艣niej.

"Rosja musi wybra膰 mi臋dzy wydrenowaniem pozosta艂ych cennych rezerw dolarowych a nap艂ywem nowych dochod贸w lub niewyp艂acalno艣ci膮" - powiedzia艂 rzecznik.
