Yesterday we had a good afternoon. After a breakfast of over-cooked oatmeal, raspberries, and bananas, we went to Carrefour to buy the garbage bags I forgot to buy on Thursday. On the way back home we stopped to return a container to Dorota Śniegocki that she gave to me with food in it 2 months ago. Her husband, Marcin, met us at the gate and invited us for coffee outside on the patio. Dorota was there with her daughter, Zosia, who was home from Warsaw where she lives for now. We've known her since she was 14 and now she's 27. My, how time flies! We sat, drank a coffee, and talked about the virus, the election in the U.S., the value of the dollar, Zosia's life in Warsaw, and their son. Maciek, also living in Warsaw. It was a good afternoon. He said, “We obliterated 100% of the ISIS caliphate,” except the 10,000 fighters a new UN report says are still on the ground in Iraq and Syria.

“Joe Biden supports cutting police funding,” he said when the reality is that Biden supports increased spending on law enforcement.

Trump's casual and continuous lying is a cancer on the presidency and this speech only made that more clear. Trump said China would own America. So, Joan's last day of the 5 times a week physical therapy with Bartosz. Next week he only comes on Thursday at 12:00. We developed a good relationship with him during the last 3 months.

Yes, welcome back to my #1 laptop, repaired, and working good, today. I remembered the years living in the forest with only a car battery to operate my radio and tape player. This is not good news cognitive thinking and memory but it did confirm our decision to make Joan's next visit with the speech therapist the last one. It has nothing to do with the therapist or her methods. School begins next week and she works in a school with children. She will have daily contact with them and she is concerned about one or more of them being asymptomatic. Our age puts me in the risk area and Joan in the high-risk area because of the stroke. We will ask if she knows another therapist who only deals with private clients. I hope she does. Joan has made good progress in visual concepts but still need help in cognitive thinking and memory.

Once again, problems connecting to the internet. Actually, I can connect to the net but not on my newly repaired Samsung laptop. I thought it was the router, exchanged it for a new one but still no net. A techie came out, checked out the connection and said something was wrong with the laptop system because he couldn't connect using the service providers information. I showed him the second laptop and he was able to connect on it but I couldn't download Zoom or Skype. I missed my Polish today.

I had to go with another document to the building across from Plac Wolnosći. It was a lovely day outside. 25C(75F0 with a little cloud cover but sunny and a slight breeze. I thought it would be good to take Joan so I put the wheelchair in the car and helped her down the stairs.

With the sun shining, the goldenrod fields along the way were very picturesque so I just had to take pictures. We sat at the cafe and had a coffee and a brownie. I threw a piece of mine on the ground and a variety of colored pigeons immediately descended. They all tried to scare each other away but one was vicious and pecked on the heads of his opponents. The plaza has been fairly empty of people because of the virus and it was easy to good pictures of the fountain we don't care for. We spent about 2 hours sitting there and talking. It was just too nice to go back to the flat because the weather was perfect for our likes. Our conversation was about the upcoming election, with prayers that the evil creature, Trump, is defeated. We don't hate him as a person, just for what he has done to America and the majority of the American people. We're concerned about the future for Joan's kids and grandkids.

We also talked about the end of Joan's daily PT and will reduce it to once a week,. On the other days, I will accept the responsibility of doing PT with Joan. I was able to upload the new exercise video for Joan. It's only 7 minutes long.

I put the wheelchair in the car, helped Joan downstairs and we were off to Poznań Plaza, 10 minutes away. They have a sale of summer clothes and I wanted to buy Joan some new tank tops before they were all gone. All they had in colors were black or white so I bought 2 of each of them. Last night it was  Creamy Garlic Chicken with salad. Joan helped, but sitting in her wheelchair. When I'm cooking and have to wait for something to get done, I wash whatever I've used, like a bowl or small pot.  I was rinsing a bowl when the sink drainage plugged up and the water wouldn't go down. I tried everything to unplug it. Finally, I went to the store, Chata Polska, and bought a bottle of Kret. It's a drain cleaner in granular form. I poured 1/4 of the bottle in the drain, waited, and nothing happened. I took the extreme route and poured the whole bottle in. There were sounds like your stomach makes when you're hungry but still no resolve,  Thinking I was going to have to call a plumber tomorrow, I sat down next to Joan. After watching Joe Biden's acceptance speech Friday morning, I couldn't help thinking how it was received by a Trump supporter. Of course, that is only IF any watched it just out of curiosity as I will watch Trump's speech next week. I am sure they will have their reasons to refute everything he said. Mainly because Trump will. Biden's speech was about unifying the country, hope, love, family, allies, climate change, jobs, and the possibility of the future. I suspect Trump's will be about crime, immigration, fear, division, hatred, jobs, and many other lies. He will perform for his base like any reality TV show will do and they will love it. He will rant on about Biden taking away their guns, immigrants over-running the country,  how well he is handling the pandemic even with the numbers continually rising, how great he is, and how Biden will destroy the country and they will love it. It is sad they do not see what damage he has done to America and will  votefor him again. What will it take for them to see it? When his SS troops will be at their door? That is an exaggeration , of course, but it happened in Germany and it is heading in that direction. He jokes about staying in power for 10-14 years but is he really joking? I think he believes he can pull it off.

However, there is a storm brewing in the United States. It is a Blue storm of people who are fed up with his lies, deceptions, bullying, disregard for war heroes like John McCain and Gold Star families, alienating allies, not confrontational of adversaries of the U.S., mishandling of the pandemic, and his refusal to take responsibility for anything.  I can only hope it turns into a tsunami before November 3rd. I made the German Oven Pancake for breakfast with blackberries inside and strawberry jam on top.  We like it. Then at 10:30 Radek came over for our English and Spanish time. He won't be here next week because he is going to another tango event. He loves that tango!

I need a pair of eyes in the back of my head.  Last night, Joan was standing up in the kitchen putting spaghetti in a pot of water. I was standing right behind her. Good news, again.

After hearing the good news that Joe Biden picked Kamala Harris for his vice-president, I went to do the weekly shopping. Joan was outside for a walk with Bartosz today and exercised with the bands of rubber. It's still difficult for her to take bigger steps, walking more like a Japanese woman of some years. Siedzi teraz w łóżku i mam nadzieję, że niedługo będziemy mogli wrócić do łóżka szpitalnego i może znowu przyłączyć się do mnie i ze mną spać. Tęsknię za nią.

Después de escuchar la buena noticia de que Joe Biden eligió a Kamala Harris como su vicepresidenta, fui a hacer las compras semanales. Manteniendo un ojo en mi peso, primero voy al pasillo donde venden balanzas. coge uno y comprueba mi peso. Gané 1/2 libra esta semana. Me alegro de que suba y no baje. Debería comprar la balanza para tenerla en casa. Cuesta 40 PLN y muestra kilogramos de libras. Usaría los kilos mientras que Joan preferiría las libras.

Todavía estamos en la ola de calor con temperaturas entre 27-31C (82-88F). Sin embargo, una vez que el sol pasó sobre nuestro edificio, enfría lo suficiente como para poder cenar en el balcón donde la brisa es mejor. Esta noche comemos espaguetis. Sentados a la mesa solo tenemos una vista de la parte superior de los edificios y el cielo. No es exactamente pintoresco como en Santiago pero es lo que es. Aún así, estamos felices de estar vivos.

Mi lección de polaco de hoy consistió en que le conté a Agnieszka mi historia familiar en polaco. Ella me corrige sobre la marcha o me dice en polaco las palabras que no conozco. La hora pasa rápido. Es algo gracioso, las palabras en español aparecen con más frecuencia en mi cerebro que las en polaco. Obviamente, pasé mucho más tiempo el año pasado aprendiendo español y descuidé mi polaco. Eso ha cambiado ahora con este maestro. Ahora paso el mismo tiempo. Reconozco que el español me resulta más fácil pero vivo en Polonia. A estas alturas, debería hablar polaco mucho más fácil y mejor. Debería azotarme a mí mismo. :-)

Joan ha salido a pasear hoy con Bartosz y se ha ejercitado con las bandas de goma. Todavía le cuesta dar pasos más grandes, caminar más como una japonesa de algunos años. Ahora está sentada en la cama y espero que pronto podamos devolver la cama del hospital y ella pueda reunirse conmigo, una vez más, para dormir conmigo. La extraño

Special Day.

Today is a special day for us. It's our "official" wedding anniversary day, in 1988 but we lived together for 13 years before that. So, "officially" it is 32 years but we think of it as 45 years together. 3 other important things happened on this day. Joan had her first aneurysm, my mother was born on this day in 1912 and my father and mother were married on this.

GOOD NEWS...All 3 people I mentioned yesterday being tested for Covid were negative.

Dziś jest dla nas wyjątkowy dzień. To nasza "oficjalna" rocznica ślubu, w 1988 roku, ale wcześniej mieszkaliśmy razem 13 lat. Tak więc „oficjalnie” to 32 lata, ale myślimy o tym jako o 45 latach razem. Tego dnia wydarzyły się 3 inne ważne rzeczy. Joan miała swój pierwszy tętniak, moja matka urodziła się tego dnia w 1912 roku i mój ojciec i matka pobrali się z tego powodu.

DOBRA WIADOMOŚĆ ... Wszystkie 3 osoby, o których wspomniałem wczoraj, badane na obecność Covid, były negatywne.

Hoy es un día especial para nosotros. Es el día "oficial" de nuestro aniversario de bodas, en 1988, pero antes de eso vivimos juntos durante 13 años. Entonces, "oficialmente" son 32 años, pero pensamos que son 45 años juntos. Otras 3 cosas importantes sucedieron en este día. Joan tuvo su primer aneurisma, mi madre nació ese día en 1912 y mi padre y mi madre se casaron en este día.

BUENAS NOTICIAS ... Las 3 personas que mencioné ayer que se hicieron la prueba de Covid dieron negativo.

Payment

When finished with our meeting yesterday with Dr, Pawlak, I went to pay.  The 4 receptionists were now only 2 and 6 people were waiting.  After 20 minutes, there were still 5 waiting. We were already late to return home for Joan's PT so I decided to leave. Today I went back and made the payment, 250 PLN($67) for a 2-hour consultation. I remember when we lived near Chicago and my neurologist worked at the University of Chicago hospital, I paid $100 for a 1-hour meeting, and that was 15 years ago.

Radek was here for our Spanish time in the morning. I always think I am prepared for it but I'm still hesitant to answer any of his questions in Spanish. He constantly gives verbs to conjugate in different tenses and I get the conjugations mixed up. I have to learn them better.

In the afternoon, talking in Polish, I kept inserting Spanish words into my replies to questions. 1 native language and 2 foreign languages keeps my brain very active.  We went over my diary and she corrected the mistakes I made on the screen so I could see them.

Po wczorajszym spotkaniu z doktorem Pawlakiem poszedłem zapłacić. 4 recepcjonistki było teraz tylko 2, a 6 osób czekało. Po 20 minutach czekało jeszcze 5. Spóźniliśmy się już na powrót do domu Joan's PT, więc zdecydowałem się wyjechać. Dziś wróciłem i dokonałem wpłaty 250 zł za 2-godzinną konsultację. Pamiętam, kiedy mieszkaliśmy w pobliżu Chicago, a mój neurolog pracował w szpitalu na Uniwersytecie w Chicago, zapłaciłem 100 $ za godzinne spotkanie i to było 15 lat temu.

Radek był tu rano na nasz hiszpański czas. Zawsze myślę, że jestem na to przygotowany, ale wciąż waham się, czy odpowiedzieć na jakiekolwiek jego pytania po hiszpańsku. Ciągle podaje czasowniki do koniugacji w różnych czasach i mylę koniugacje. Muszę się ich lepiej nauczyć.

Po południu, rozmawiając po polsku, do odpowiedzi na pytania wstawiałem hiszpańskie słowa. 1 język ojczysty i 2 języki obce sprawiają, że mój mózg jest bardzo aktywny. Przejrzeliśmy mój dziennik, a ona poprawiła błędy, które popełniłem na ekranie, żeby je zobaczyć.

Cuando terminó con nuestra reunión de ayer con el Dr. Pawlak, fui a pagar. Los 4 recepcionistas eran ahora solo 2 y 6 personas estaban esperando. Después de 20 minutos, aún quedaban 5 esperando. Ya llegábamos tarde para volver a casa para el fisioterapeuta de Joan, así que decidí irme. Hoy volví e hice el pago, 250 PLN ($ 67) por una consulta de 2 horas. Recuerdo que cuando vivíamos cerca de Chicago y mi neurólogo trabajaba en el hospital de la Universidad de Chicago, pagué $ 100 por una reunión de una hora, y eso fue hace 15 años.

Radek estuvo aquí por nuestro tiempo en español por la mañana. Siempre creo que estoy preparado para ello, pero todavía dudo en responder a cualquiera de sus preguntas en español. Constantemente da verbos para conjugar en diferentes tiempos y yo confundo las conjugaciones. Tengo que aprenderlos mejor.

Por la tarde, hablando en polaco, seguí insertando palabras en español en mis respuestas a las preguntas. 1 idioma nativo y 2 idiomas extranjeros mantienen mi cerebro muy activo. Revisamos mi diario y ella corrigió los errores que cometí en la pantalla para que pudiera verlos.

Pins and needles.

Sitting on pins and needles. Yesterday we were informed 3 people very close to us were exposed to Covid-19 and were tested over the weekend. The people they met with had no symptoms but were asymptomatic. Now those three are just waiting for the results. Joan and I have had no physical contact with them. That's not the kind of news we wanted to hear. We are as anxious as they are for the results.

It was another hot day until the evening when it cooled off. Again I didn't really feel like making dinner. I opted to make the German oven pancake for dinner. It's fast to make and easy. Pre-heat oven to 200C. Just 3 eggs  1/2 cup of flour,1/2 cup of milk, 3 teaspoons of melted butter, 1/2 tablespoon of sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Mix the flour, eggs, salt, 2 tablespoons of butter, and sugar together. Slowly add the flour to the mix. Spread the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter in an 11" pan, pour in the mixture and bake for 12-18 minutes or until lightly browned. Take out, cut in half. put a filling(I used blueberry yogurt) on 1 side of each half and foldover. Serves 2.

Joan and I went to see the new neurologist but only Joan saw him. The reason was he spent 2 hours examining her physically and mentally. He asked her many questions that I confirmed her answers or didn't. He looked through her documents from various hospitals and showed us the images of her brain for the last 10 years. It was easy to see the damage that had been done to both sides of her brain, they were in black. He showed us the whit matter around those areas which will be the next to go with aging. He also said the testing in Gdańsk was excellent and we should have done every two years going forward. He said the white matter might be slowed down through exercise, diet, a cardio exam ever year,, and continuing learning something new like a language. When the meeting ended, he told me to make a new appointment for myself. I was impressed by the thoroughness of the examination and Joan was happy to know more details about other problems.

Siedzenie na szpilkach i igłach. Wczoraj poinformowano nas, że 3 bliskie nam osoby były narażone na działanie Covid-19 i były testowane przez weekend. Osoby, z którymi się spotkali, nie miały żadnych objawów, ale były bezobjawowe. Teraz ta trójka tylko czeka na wyniki. Joan i ja nie mieliśmy z nimi fizycznego kontaktu. Nie takich wiadomości chcieliśmy usłyszeć. Jesteśmy równie zaniepokojeni rezultatami, jak oni.

To był kolejny gorący dzień, aż do wieczora, kiedy ostygło. Znowu nie miałem ochoty robić obiadu. Zdecydowałem się zrobić niemieckiego naleśnika na obiad. To szybkie i łatwe. Rozgrzej piekarnik do 200C. Tylko 3 jajka 1/2 szklanki mąki, 1/2 szklanki mleka, 3 łyżeczki roztopionego masła, 1/2 łyżki cukru i 1/4 łyżeczki soli. Wymieszaj razem mąkę, jajka, sól, 2 łyżki masła i cukier. Powoli dodaj mąkę do mieszanki. Rozłóż pozostałą 1 łyżkę masła na patelni 11 ", wlej mieszaninę i piecz przez 12-18 minut lub do momentu, aż lekko się zarumieni. Wyjmij, przekrój na pół. Na 1 stronę każdego z nich nałóż nadzienie (ja użyłem jogurtu jagodowego) na pół i składane. 2 porcje.

Joan i ja poszliśmy do nowego neurologa, ale widziała go tylko Joan. Powodem było to, że spędził 2 godziny badając ją fizycznie i psychicznie. Zadał jej wiele pytań, na które odpowiadałem lub nie. Przejrzał jej dokumenty z różnych szpitali i pokazał nam obrazy jej mózgu z ostatnich 10 lat. Łatwo było zobaczyć uszkodzenia, które wyrządzono po obu stronach jej mózgu, były czarne. Pokazał nam białą materię wokół tych obszarów, które będą następnymi etapami starzenia. Powiedział również, że testy w Gdańsku były doskonałe i powinniśmy robić co dwa lata dalej. Powiedział, że istota biała może zostać spowolniona poprzez ćwiczenia, dietę, coroczne badanie cardio i kontynuowanie nauki czegoś nowego, takiego jak język. Kiedy spotkanie się skończyło, powiedział mi, żebym umówił się na nowe spotkanie. Byłem pod wrażeniem dokładności badania, a Joan była szczęśliwa, mogąc poznać więcej szczegółów na temat innych problemów.

Sentado sobre alfileres y agujas. Ayer nos informaron que 3 personas muy cercanas a nosotros estuvieron expuestas al Covid-19 y fueron probadas durante el fin de semana. Las personas con las que se reunieron no tenían síntomas, pero estaban asintomáticas. Ahora esos tres están esperando los resultados. Joan y yo no hemos tenido contacto físico con ellos. Ese no es el tipo de noticias que queríamos escuchar. Estamos tan ansiosos como ellos por los resultados.

Fue otro día caluroso hasta la noche cuando se enfrió. Una vez más, no tenía ganas de preparar la cena. Opté por hacer el panqueque de horno alemán para la cena. Es rápido y fácil de hacer. Precaliente el horno a 200C. Solo 3 huevos 1/2 taza de harina, 1/2 taza de leche, 3 cucharaditas de mantequilla derretida, 1/2 cucharada de azúcar y 1/4 de cucharadita de sal. Mezcle la harina, los huevos, la sal, 2 cucharadas de mantequilla y el azúcar. Agregue lentamente la harina a la mezcla. Unte la cucharada restante de mantequilla en una sartén de 11 ", vierta la mezcla y hornee por 12-18 minutos o hasta que esté ligeramente dorada. Saque, corte por la mitad. Ponga un relleno (yo usé yogur de arándanos) en 1 lado de cada uno. la mitad y doblada. Sirve 2.

Joan y yo fuimos a ver al nuevo neurólogo, pero solo Joan lo vio. La razón fue que pasó 2 horas examinándola física y mentalmente. Le hizo muchas preguntas que yo confirmó o no respondí. Era fácil ver el daño que le habían hecho a ambos lados de su cerebro, estaban en negro. Nos mostró el asunto de las áreas que serán las próximas en ir con el envejecimiento. También dijo que las pruebas en Gdańsk fueron excelentes y que deberíamos haberlo hecho cada dos años en el futuro. Dijo que la materia blanca podría ralentizarse a través del ejercicio, la dieta, un examen cardiovascular cada año y continuar aprendiendo algo nuevo como un idioma.
