For the last 7 years, around the 1st week in December, there is an event in the Rynek called the Ice Festival. In this event sponsored by the Stihl chainsaw company, artists from Poland and other countries, carve beautiful sculptures out of large blocks of ice. How many hours it takes depends on what the design of the artist is. How long the whole event lasts depends on the weather. Below 0c and the sculptures remain, above 0c and they melt away. Viewing the sculptures at night is impressive because they are illuminated by various colored lights. This year there were artists from Poland, Sweden, England, Malaysia, Philippines, Bulgaria, Japan, Spain, France, Russia, Italy and Switzerland. Take a look at the pictures on the right side of blog.
