Sorry for missing the Tuesday message. My internet connection was shutoff by my provider. Our bill is due on the 15th of each month but so some unknown reason because we hadn’t paid it yet, the turned me off. I called the phone number for an hour and a half but got no answer or an answering machine. After that time, the only way to get it straightened out was to take a bus and tram to their office. I did that and found out that the Internet has to be paid by the 25th of the previous month and the TV cable by the 15th. Each is a seperate account so two payments are necessary. I took money with me, paid the bills and now I'm back on line. It was such a nice day I also took a walk to the bookstore of the University to get our books but there out of stock for another week.
We had a surprise visit from cousin Pola Kielar, who again brought her lunch, sur贸wka (coleslaw).
Tuesday night we went to our first Polish class. We got there 15 minutes early, went to the second floor, actually the third floor because in this school they count the ground floor as 0. We went down a few hallways until we found our room, 225, and standing in the hallway were a number of students waiting for classrooms to open up. Doors opened, students went in and left in the hallway were 4 students plus Joan and I. At the starting time of 6:45 our door was still not opened so I asked one of the remaining students if they were waiting for the Polish class and they said yes. A few minutes later our “teacher” showed up and let us in. The teacher is not much older than the other students, maybe 22-23 years old, probably a graduate student. Beside Joan and myself, there are four Germans and one Russian but they can also speak English. They are all full time students at Mickiewicz except for the Russian girl. Her boyfriend is Polish so she wants to learn the language. Our teacher, Joanna Grzelak, speaks in Polish to us and only in English if we do not understand something. The first lesson was just introductions to alphabet, numbers and a few greetings and goodbyes. Nothing we didn’t know already. I have hope it will progress quickly to the point of studies that we need. We don’t need a school year relearning what we already know. Wednesday we need to go to a bookstore to buy the text and exercise book she uses.
Po tamtym czasie, jedyny spos贸b by dosta膰 to prostowany mia艂 wzi膮膰 autobus i tramwaj do ich biura. Zrobi艂em, 偶e i dowiedzia艂em si臋, 偶e Internet musi by膰 op艂acony przez 25. z poprzedniego miesi膮ca i kabla telewizji przez 15.. To by艂 taki mi艂y dzie艅 te偶 pospacerowa艂em do ksi臋garni Uniwersytetu by dosta膰 nasze ksi膮偶ki ale tam wyczerpany przez inny tydzie艅.
Mieli艣my niespodzianka bywaj膮 z kuzyna Pola Kielar, kt贸ry znowu przyni贸s艂 jej posi艂ek po艂udniowy, sur贸wka (sur贸wka z kapusty).
Noc wtorku poszli艣my do naszej pierwszej polskiej klasy. Dostali艣my tam 15 minut wcze艣nie, poszli艣my do drugiego pi臋tra, faktycznie trzecia pod艂oga poniewa偶 w tej szkole oni licz膮 parter jak 0. Zeszli艣my kilka korytarzy a偶 znale藕li艣my nasz pok贸j, 225, i stoj膮ce w korytarz by艂 pewna liczba student贸w czekaj膮cy na klasy, 偶eby otworzy艂y. Drzwi otworzy艂y si臋, studenci weszli i opuszczali w korytarzu byli 4 studenci plus Joan i ja. Nic, czego nie znali艣my ju偶. Mam nadziej臋 to posunie si臋 naprz贸d szybko do rzeczy studi贸w, kt贸re potrzebujemy. Nie potrzebujemy roku szkolnego relearning czego ju偶 znamy. 艢roda potrzebujemy p贸j艣膰 do ksi臋garni by kupi膰 tekst i zeszyt ona u偶ywa.
