Smigus Dyngus Day!

A rather extreme version of the day.

Today was Smigus Dyngus day in Poland. It's an unusual tradition of Easter Monday. This day (Monday after Easter Sunday) is called also in Polish "Wet Monday", in Polish: "Mokry Poniedzialek" or "Lany Poniedzialek". Easter Monday is also a holiday in Poland. It was traditionally the day when boys tried to drench girls with squirt guns or buckets of water. "Smigus" comes from the word smigac meaning swish with a cane since men tap the ankles and legs of the girls. Dyngus comes probably from German word dingen which means to come to an agreement since the girls needed to give men money to stop being swished and splashed. The more a girl is sprayed with water, the higher are her chances of  getting  married. Usually groups of young boys are waiting for accidental passerbys near the farmer markets or in the corners of the streets. Older men behave like gentlemen spraying their wives with cologne water rather than with the regular one. The girls got their chances for revenge the following day. They can spray boys with water as much as they wanted on Tuesday.

Joan spent the afternoon taking all the ingredients given to her to make the salad I mentioned in an earlier post.  I helped her chopping up all the vegetables into little pieces and then she put it all together.  We'll have it tonight with rolada's.  I'm sure it will be good.

Dziś był dzień w Smigus Dyngus Polska. To niezwykły tradycji Poniedziałek Wielkanocny. Dziś (poniedziałek po Niedzieli Wielkanocnej) nazywa się także w języku polskim "Wet Monday ", w języku polskim: "Mokry Poniedziałka"lub"Lany Poniedziałka". Poniedziałek Wielkanocny jest także świętem w Polska. To był tradycyjnie dzień, kiedy chłopcy próbowali oblać dziewczyny z bronią squirt lub wiadra wody. "Smigus"pochodzi od słowa oznaczającego swish smigac z laską od mężczyzn wybierz kostek i nóg z dziewcząt. Dyngus pochodzi prawdopodobnie od niemieckiego słowa, które oznacza Dingen aby dojść do porozumienia, ponieważ dziewczyny potrzebne do nadania mężczyzn pieniądze przestaną być swished i okulary ochronne. Im bardziej dziewczyna jest zraszane wodą, tym większe są jej szanse na ślub. Zwykle grupy młodych chłopców czeka przypadkowych passerbys w pobliżu rynków rolnika lub w rogach ulic. Starsi mężczyźni zachowują się jak panowie z żonami rozpylania wody kolońskiej, a nie z regularne. dziewcząt, ale ich szanse na rewanż następnego dnia. Mogą chłopców spryskać wodą tyle, ile chciał we wtorek.


Joan spędziła popołudnie z uwzględnieniem wszystkich składników danego jej zrobić sałatkę już wspomniałem we wcześniejszym post. Pomogłem jej dzielenia wszystkie warzywa na małe kawałki i potem wrzucić je wszystkie razem. Musimy go dzisiaj rolada z firmy. Jestem pewien, że będzie dobrze.
