Solacki park.

Taking my mind off of things, I took Joan out to Solacki park to spend part of the afternoon. It was a beautiful autumn day and hope tomorrow will be the same for all of the people who are traveling to ancestral towns to honor their ancestors.

We sat or walked in the park for two hours, talking and taking pictures for you to see the beauty of this park. Citadela park is bigger but this park is more special. Gold, yellow, or orange are the most prevalent colors in the leaves, not much red.

Odrywając się od spraw, zabrałem Joannę do Parku Sołackiego, aby spędzić część popołudnia. To był piękny jesienny dzień i mam nadzieję, że jutro będzie taki sam dla wszystkich ludzi, którzy podróżują do miasteczek przodków, aby uczcić swoich przodków.

Siedzieliśmy lub spacerowaliśmy w parku przez dwie godziny, rozmawiając i robiąc zdjęcia, abyście mogli zobaczyć piękno tego parku. Park Citadela jest większy, ale ten park jest bardziej wyjątkowy. Złoto, żółty lub pomarańczowy to najbardziej dominujące kolory liści, mało czerwonego.

Para distraerme, llevé a Joan al parque Solacki para pasar parte de la tarde. Era un hermoso día de otoño y espero que mañana sea igual para todas las personas que viajan a los pueblos ancestrales para honrar a sus antepasados.

Nos sentamos o paseamos por el parque durante dos horas, hablando y haciendo fotos para que vean la belleza de este parque. El parque de Citadela es más grande pero este parque es más especial. Los colores que más predominan en las hojas son el dorado, el amarillo y el naranja, no hay mucho 

Seizure.

If the death of Zbyszek wasn't enough to think about today, Joan had her 4th seizure this morning as I was driving. I pulled over and held her until it was over. It lasted about 4 minutes and then she returned to normal. Her last one was two months ago. When it was over I took her to Sowa's to cheer her up.

I bought a new Sony DVD player but it turned out to only play DVDs bought in our region(2) so I took it back. Many of our DVDs were bought in the U.S. which is in region 1. I searched the internet and found one that plays all regions so I ordered it. It will be delivered in the next week.

Jakby śmierć Zbyszka nie była wystarczającym powodem do rozmyślań, Joan miała dziś rano czwarty atak, gdy jechaliśmy samochodem. Zjechałem na pobocze i trzymałam ją, aż się skończył. Trwało to około 4 minut, po czym wróciła do normy. Ostatni raz miała atak dwa miesiące temu. Kiedy się skończył, zabrałem ją do Sowy, żeby ją rozweselić. 

Kupiłem nowy odtwarzacz DVD Sony, ale okazało się, że odtwarza on tylko plyty DVD kupione w naszym regionie(2), więc go zwróciłem. Wiele z naszych płyt DVD zostało kupionych w USA, które jest w regionie 1. Przeszukałem internet i znalazłem taki, który odtwarza wszystkie regiony, więc go zamówiłem. Zostanie on dostarczony w ciągu najbliższego tygodnia.

Si la muerte de Zbyszek no fuera suficiente para pensar hoy, Joan tuvo su cuarto ataque esta mañana mientras yo conducía. Me detuve y la sostuve hasta que terminó. Duró unos 4 minutos y luego volvió a la normalidad. El último fue hace dos meses. Cuando terminó, la llevé a Sowa's para animarla.

Compré un nuevo reproductor de DVD de Sony, pero resultó que sólo reproducía los DVD comprados en nuestra región (2), así que lo devolví. Muchos de nuestros DVD se compraron en Estados Unidos, que está en la región 1. Busqué en Internet y encontré uno que reproduce todas las regiones, así que lo pedí. Me lo entregarán la semana que viene.

SAD!

Joan and I have had some sad days in Poland and, unfortunately, today is yet another. Our dearest friend, Zbyszek, finally succumbed to cancer and died this morning. He leaves behind a son, daughter, and 4 grandsons.

Zbyszek was the first friend we made when we came to Poland. So many bureaucratic troubles were solved with his help. For many years we met every Wednesday at Kandulski's sweet shop just to talk about various topics. He attempted to help me learn the language better and he even tried to help Joan. Differences in their personalities, however, didn't allow that.

When he went to England to visit a friend, he asked us to accompany him and we spent two weeks there visiting different places and people. 

For the last year and a half, we haven't been able to see him due to Covid-19. We are going to miss him very much.

Joan i ja mamy za sobą kilka smutnych dni w Polsce i niestety, dzisiejszy dzień jest kolejnym. Nasz najdroższy przyjaciel, Zbyszek, w końcu poddał się rakowi i zmarł dziś rano. Pozostawił po sobie syna, córkę i 4 wnuków. 

Zbyszek był pierwszym naszym przyjacielem, którego poznaliśmy po przyjeździe do Polski. Tyle biurokratycznych kłopotów udało się rozwiązać z jego pomocą. Przez wiele lat spotykaliśmy się w każdą środę w cukierni Kandulskiego, aby porozmawiać na różne tematy. Starał się pomóc mi w nauce języka, a nawet Joan. Różnice w ich osobowościach jednak na to nie pozwalały. 

Kiedy jechał do Anglii, aby odwiedzić przyjaciela, poprosił nas, abyśmy mu towarzyszyli i spędziliśmy tam dwa tygodnie, odwiedzając różne miejsca i ludzi. 

Przez ostatnie półtora roku nie mogliśmy się z nim spotkać z powodu Covid-19. Będzie nam go bardzo brakowało.

Joan y yo hemos tenido algunos días tristes en Polonia y, por desgracia, hoy es otro más. Nuestro amigo más querido, Zbyszek, finalmente sucumbió al cáncer y murió esta mañana. Deja un hijo, una hija y 4 nietos.

Zbyszek fue el primer amigo que hicimos cuando llegamos a Polonia. Con su ayuda se resolvieron muchos problemas burocráticos. Durante muchos años nos reuníamos todos los miércoles en la tienda de dulces de Kandulski para hablar de diversos temas. Intentó ayudarme a aprender mejor el idioma e incluso trató de ayudar a Joan. Sin embargo, las diferencias de personalidad no lo permitían.

Cuando fue a Inglaterra a visitar a un amigo, nos pidió que le acompañáramos y pasamos dos semanas allí visitando diferentes lugares y personas. 

Durante el último año y medio, no hemos podido verle debido a Covid-19. Lo vamos a echar mucho de menos.

Yes, that is what it costs to fill the gas tank of a Fiat Panda, 30-liter tank at 5.99 PLN per liter. In dollars at 4 liters per gallon=$6.08 per gallon. The highest it has ever been for us. I just don't understand why when almost everyone is suffering from the pandemic, prices on everything just keep going higher.

Tak, tyle kosztuje napełnienie zbiornika gazu w Fiacie Panda, 30-litrowy zbiornik po 5,99 zł za litr. W dolarach przy 4 litrach za galon=6,08$ za galon. Najwyżej jak dotąd. Nie rozumiem tylko, dlaczego w sytuacji, gdy prawie wszyscy cierpią z powodu pandemii, ceny na wszystko idą w górę.

Sí, eso es lo que cuesta llenar un depósito de gasolina en un Fiat Panda, un depósito de 30 litros a 5,99 dólares el litro. En dólares a 4 litros por galón=6,08 dólares por galón. Break

I had my first break today in a long time. Went to Radek's for our meeting. Andre arrived at 10:15 and I talked to him for 15 minutes about Joan's condition before I left. When I returned Joan said she was satisfied with his company for 3 hours so he will return next week, on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Radek will come to us.

Covid is out of control in Poland as I wrote. Almost no one is wearing masks on the streets and even in some stores. There is as much negative propaganda against restrictions as there is in the U.S. It is no wonder numbers keep going up. We continue to wear ours. I really can't comprehend the mentality of non-maskers. From any source, they can see more and more people are contracting the disease and some are dying from it yet they believe leaders who say it is all a hoax to curb personal freedom. Those politicians say it just to get votes in the next election. Everything is geared toward getting re-elected.

Miałem dzisiaj pierwszą przerwę od dłuższego czasu. Poszedłem do Radka na nasze spotkanie. Andre przyjechał o 10:15 i zanim wyszedłem, rozmawiałem z nim przez 15 minut o stanie Joanny. Kiedy wróciłem, Joanna powiedziała, że jest zadowolona z jego towarzystwa przez 3 godziny, więc wróci w przyszłym tygodniu, w środę. We wtorek przyjedzie do nas Radek.

Jak pisałem, Covid jest w Polsce poza kontrolą. Prawie nikt nie nosi masek na ulicach, a nawet w niektórych sklepach. Negatywnej propagandy przeciwko ograniczeniom jest tyle samo, co w USA. Nic dziwnego, że liczby wciąż rosną. My nadal nosimy nasze. Naprawdę nie mogę pojąć mentalności osób nie noszących masek. Z każdego źródła mogą oni zobaczyć, że coraz więcej ludzi zapada na tę chorobę, a niektórzy z nich umierają, ale wierzą przywódcom, którzy twierdzą, że to wszystko jest oszustwem mającym na celu ograniczenie wolności osobistej. Ci politycy mówią to tylko po to, aby zdobyć głosy w następnych wyborach. Wszystko jest ukierunkowane na uzyskanie reelekcji.

Hoy he tenido mi primer descanso en mucho tiempo. Fui a casa de Radek para nuestra reunión. Andre llegó a las 10:15 y hablé con él durante 15 minutos sobre el estado de Joan antes de irme. Cuando volví, Joan dijo que estaba satisfecha con su compañía durante 3 horas, así que volverá la semana que viene, el miércoles. El martes, Radek vendrá con nosotros.

El Covid está fuera de control en Polonia como escribí. Casi nadie lleva máscaras en las calles e incluso en algunas tiendas. Hay tanta propaganda negativa contra las restricciones como en EE.UU. No es de extrañar que las cifras sigan subiendo. Nosotros seguimos llevando las nuestras. Realmente no puedo comprender la mentalidad de los que no llevan máscara. Desde cualquier fuente, pueden ver que cada vez más personas están contrayendo la enfermedad y algunas están muriendo por ello, pero creen a los líderes que dicen que todo es un engaño para frenar la libertad personal. Esos políticos lo dicen sólo para conseguir votos en las próximas elecciones. Todo está orientado a conseguir la reelección.

Bureaucracy

Now that we have a new flat, we have to return to the bureaucracy and get a new residence card, a resident address verification form, and who knows what else. Who knows how long this will take. A lawyer told me it has to be done within 30 days.

Monday morning is NFL football game highlights for us. It used to be possible to watch a full game but that was changed a few years ago to just highlights.

The afternoon was spent collecting the forms we need to fill out for the new cards.

Teraz, gdy mamy nowe mieszkanie, musimy wrócić do biurokracji i uzyskać nową kartę pobytu, formularz weryfikacji adresu zamieszkania i kto wie, co jeszcze. Kto wie jak długo to potrwa. Prawnik powiedział mi, że musi to być zrobione w ciągu 30 dni.

Poniedziałkowy poranek to dla nas mecze futbolowe NFL. Kiedyś można było obejrzeć całą grę, ale kilka lat temu zmieniono to na przegląd samych najważniejszych. 

Popołudnie spędziliśmy na zbieraniu formularzy, które musimy wypełnić, aby otrzymać nowe karty.

Ahora que tenemos un nuevo piso, tenemos que volver a la burocracia y conseguir una nueva tarjeta de residencia, un formulario de verificación de la dirección de residencia y quién sabe qué más. Quién sabe cuánto tiempo llevará. El abogado me dijo que tiene que hacerse en 30 días.

El lunes por la mañana para nosotros significa partidos de fútbol de la NFL. Antes se podía ver todo el partido, pero eso se cambió hace unos años para revisar sólo los resúmenes. 

La tarde la pasamos recogiendo los formularios que tenemos que rellenar para conseguir nuevas tarjetas.

Gorczyn cemetery

Because of a recommendation from our friend, Joanna, on this sunny Sunday, I put a heavier coat on Joan and we were off to visit the Gorczyn cemetery close to our flat. Joanna said it was also a nice place to walk but because today is only a week before November 1st, there were a lot of people cleaning family graves and putting candles and flowers. It is nowhere close to the way it will look by next Sunday. Then, almost every grave will have numerous flowers and candles. that is part of what makes that day so special.

I pushed her in her wheelchair around the graves for an hour or so before she started feeling a little cold and then it was time to go. Joanna was right, there are some very old trees there. I didn't see the graves of her relatives but I wasn't looking very hard for them. Mainly, I wanted to see what the cemetery looked like in autumn and before November 1st. I will go back next Sunday to photograph the difference between this Sunday and the next. I expect it to be large.

I am really going to miss not being in Golina on the special day. This will be the second year we have missed that day due to Covid-19. It's not just about honoring my ancestors but also visiting my beloved cousin Kazia and her son, Andrzej. Of all the cousins, they have been consistent in staying in touch with me. That means a lot to me.

Z polecenia naszej przyjaciółki Joanny, w tę słoneczną niedzielę ubrałem  Joan w cieplejszy płaszcz i pojechaliśmy odwiedzić cmentarz na Górczynie, niedaleko naszego mieszkania. Joanna powiedziała, że to też ładne miejsce na spacer, ale ponieważ dziś jest dopiero tydzień przed 1 listopada, było tam mnóstwo ludzi sprzątających rodzinne groby, stawiających znicze i kwiaty. Nie jest to w żadnym stopniu zbliżone do tego, jak to będzie wyglądało w przyszłą niedzielę.  Wtedy prawie każdy grób będzie miał dużo kwiatów i zniczy. To część tego, co czyni ten dzień tak wyjątkowym. 

Pchałem ją w wózku wokół grobów przez jakąś godzinę, zanim zaczęła odczuwać chłód i wtedy nadszedł czas, aby wracać. Joanna miała rację, jest tam kilka bardzo starych drzew. Nie widziałem grobów jej krewnych, ale nie szukałem ich zbyt intensywnie. Chciałem przede wszystkim zobaczyć jak wygląda cmentarz jesienią i przed 1 listopada. Wrócę tam w następną niedzielę, by sfotografować różnicę między nimi. Spodziewam się, że będzie duża. 

Będzie mi bardzo brakowało tego, że nie będzie mnie w Golinie w tym szczególnym dniu. To będzie już drugi rok z rzędu, w którym ominie nas ten dzień z powodu Covid-19. Nie chodzi tylko o uczczenie moich przodków, ale także o odwiedzenie mojej ukochanej kuzynki Kasi i jej syna Andrzeja. Ze wszystkich kuzynów, to właśnie oni są konsekwentni w utrzymywaniu ze mną kontaktu. To dla mnie bardzo wiele znaczy.

Por recomendación de nuestra amiga Joan, este domingo soleado vestí a Joan con un abrigo más cálido y fuimos a visitar el cementerio de Górczyn, cerca de nuestro piso. Joan dijo que también era un bonito lugar para pasear, pero como hoy sólo faltaba una semana para el 1 de noviembre, había mucha gente allí limpiando tumbas familiares, poniendo velas y flores. Esto no es ni de lejos lo que será el próximo domingo.  Entonces casi todas las tumbas tendrán muchas flores y velas. Eso es parte de lo que hace que este día sea tan especial. 

La empujé en el cochecito alrededor de las tumbas durante una hora antes de que empezara a sentir el frío y entonces llegó la hora de volver. Joan tenía razón, hay algunos árboles muy viejos allí. No vi las tumbas de sus familiares, pero no las busqué demasiado. Quería ver sobre todo el aspecto del cementerio en otoño y antes del 1 de noviembre. Volveré allí el próximo domingo para fotografiar la diferencia entre ambos. Espero que sea grande. 

Echaré mucho de menos no estar en Golina en este día tan especial. Este será el segundo año consecutivo que nos perderemos el día por culpa de Covid-19. No se trata sólo de honrar a mis antepasados, sino también de visitar a mi querida prima Kasia y a su hijo Andrew. De todos los primos, ellos son los que han sido constantes en mantener el contacto conmigo. Esto significa mucho para mí.

Saturday morning.

06:00. I had set my alarm for 06:30 but for whatever reason, I woke up early. For many years I have been meeting with a friend, Joanna, but those meetings were interrupted by Covid19. We met early while Joan was still sleeping and now it is the same so I know Joan is safe in bed.

Sitting on our balcony, I watched the moon as the world turned. It reminded me of decades ago when Joan and I went to Colorado. We were younger then, in our 30's, so we did a lot of camping out.

One night we chose a spot high up in the Rocky Mountains and used only our sleeping bags so we could watch the stars pass us by. There were millions of them and you could almost touch them they seemed so close. I had only seen almost that many once before when I was aboard the aircraft carrier ship U.S.S Saratoga in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

As we were cooking dinner over a fire, an elderly man approached us on a horse, and sticking out of his back pocket was a six-gun pistol. It was like a scene from a movie.

Joan was wearing a bandana around her hair and the "cowboy" asked me who was the Indian woman, from what tribe? I explained she wasn't an Indian, just my girlfriend. We talked for a little bit and then he rode off into the sunset.

When it was time for bed, we got into our sleeping bags but couldn't sleep. We stayed awake most of the night watching one star pattern as the world slowly turned. It was one of those memories you never forget. Joan has not lost it yet.

6:00. Nastawiłem budzik na 06:30, ale z jakiegoś powodu obudziłem się wcześniej. Od wielu lat spotykałem się z przyjaciółką Joanną, ale te spotkania były przerywane przez Covid19. Spotkaliśmy się wcześnie, kiedy Joan jeszcze spała i teraz jest tak samo, więc wiem, że Joan jest bezpieczna pozostając w łóżku. 

Siedząc na naszym balkonie, patrzyłem na księżyc, podczas gdy kula ziemska się obracała. Przypomniało mi to zdarzenie sprzed dekad, kiedy Joan i ja pojechaliśmy do Kolorado. Byliśmy wtedy młodsi, po trzydziestce, więc dużo biwakowaliśmy. 

Pewnej nocy wybraliśmy miejsce wysoko w Górach Skalistych i używaliśmy tylko naszych śpiworów, więc mogliśmy obserwować jak gwiazdy na niebie wedrowały nad naszymi głowami. Były ich miliony i można było ich prawie dotknąć, wydawały się tak blisko. Wcześniej, tylko raz, widziałem ich prawie tyle samo, kiedy byłem na pokładzie lotniskowca U.S.S. Saratoga na środku oceanu Atlantyckiego. 

Kiedy gotowaliśmy obiad przy ognisku, podjechał do nas starszy mężczyzna na koniu, a z jego tylnej kieszeni wystawał sześciostrzałowy pistolet. To było jak scena z filmu. 

06:00. Había puesto el despertador a las 06:30 pero, por alguna razón, me desperté temprano. Durante muchos años me he reunido con una amiga, Juana, pero esas reuniones fueron interrumpidas por Covid19. Nos reunimos temprano mientras Joan aún dormía y ahora es lo mismo, así que sé que Joan está a salvo en la cama.

Sentada en nuestro balcón, observé la luna mientras el mundo giraba. Me recordó a décadas atrás cuando Joan y yo fuimos a Colorado. Entonces éramos más jóvenes, de 30 años, así que acampamos mucho.

Una noche elegimos un lugar en lo alto de las Montañas Rocosas y utilizamos sólo nuestros sacos de dormir para poder ver pasar las estrellas. Había millones de ellas y casi podías tocarlas, parecían tan cercanas. Sólo había visto casi tantas una vez, cuando estaba a bordo del buque portaaviones U.S.S Saratoga en medio del océano Atlántico.

Mientras cocinábamos la cena en una hoguera, un hombre mayor se acercó a nosotros montado en un caballo, y de su bolsillo trasero sobresalía una pistola de seis cañones. Era como una escena de una película.

Joan llevaba un pañuelo en el pelo y el "vaquero" me preguntó quién era la india, de qué tribu. Le expliqué que no era india, sólo mi novia. Hablamos un poco y luego se marchó al atardecer.

Drapes-Finally.

Yes, finally Leroy Merlin had our drapes to pickup. They had them in customer service where they said they had them since last Wednesday. Evidently, the drape department didn't know that the two times I went to pick them up. Anyway, we have them now and I put them up today. I had the length increased by 10 centimeters but that was my mistake. They are a tiny bit too long but Joan said she didn't want to wait another two weeks while I had them shortened. In our old flat, the curtains were too long and we lived 12 years with them so I think Joan is right. es 

It has been a very windy 2 days. In the center of town, some trees were uprooted and obstructed traffic while they removed them. Intermittent rain and high winds don't make it good to go outside but we do it. It is easier for Joan now, elevator to the underground parking, then to underground parking at Poznania.

Joan needs a good dinner so tonight it's roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a salad of some kind.  She said she wanted pizza but she says that a lot.

 I finally found a person to come and sit with Joan for 3 hours while I go out and take care of a few things each week. It's a small relief for me. He is Italian, living in Poland to be with his Polish girlfriend, and looking for work as a caregiver assistant. Joan would prefer a woman/girl but I haven't found one yet.

Tak, w końcu Leroy Merlin miał nasze zasłony do odbioru. Mieli je w dziale obsługi klienta, gdzie powiedzieli, że mają je od zeszłej środy. Najwyraźniej w dziale z zasłonami nie wiedzieli, że dwa razy przyszedłem je odebrać. Tak czy inaczej, teraz je mamy i dziś je założyłem. Są dłuższe  o 10 cm, ale to był mój błąd, ale Joan powiedziała, że nie chce czekać kolejnych dwóch tygodni, aż je skrócą. W naszym starym mieszkaniu zasłony były za długie i żyliśmy z nimi 12 lat, więc myślę, że Joan ma rację. 

To były bardzo wietrzne 2 dni. W centrum miasta niektóre drzewa zostały wyrwane z korzeniami i utrudniały ruch, gdy je usuwano. Przelotne deszcze i silne wiatry nie zachęcają do wychodzenia na zewnątrz, ale robimy to. Joan jest teraz łatwiej, bo ma windę do parkingu podziemnego, potem do parkingu podziemnego w Posnanii. 

Joan potrzebuje dobrego obiadu, więc dziś wieczorem będzie pieczony kurczak, tłuczone ziemniaki i sos, i jakaś sałatka.  Powiedziała, że chce pizzę, ale ona często tak mówi. 

Sí, finalmente Leroy Merlin tenía nuestras cortinas para recoger. Las tenían en el servicio de atención al cliente donde decían que las tenían desde el miércoles pasado. Evidentemente, el departamento de cortinas no lo sabía las dos veces que fui a recogerlas. En fin, ya los tenemos y los he colocado hoy. Me aumentaron el largo en 10 centímetros pero ese fue mi error. Son un poco demasiado largas pero Joan dijo que no quería esperar otras dos semanas mientras las acortaba. En nuestro antiguo piso, las cortinas eran demasiado largas y vivimos 12 años con ellas, así que creo que Joan tiene razón. 

Han sido dos días muy ventosos. En el centro de la ciudad, algunos árboles fueron arrancados y obstruyeron el tráfico mientras los retiraban. La lluvia intermitente y los fuertes vientos no hacen que sea bueno salir a la calle pero lo hacemos. Ahora es más fácil para Joan, ascensor hasta el aparcamiento subterráneo, luego hasta el aparcamiento subterráneo de Poznania.

Joan necesita una buena cena así que esta noche es pollo asado, puré de patatas y salsa, y una ensalada de algún tipo.  Ella dijo que quería pizza pero eso lo dice mucho.

Finalmente encontré una persona que viene y se sienta con Joan durante 3 horas mientras yo salgo y me ocupo de algunas cosas cada semana. Es un pequeño alivio para mí. Es italiano, vive en Polonia para estar con su novia polaca y busca trabajo como ayudante de cuidador. Joan preferiría una mujer/chica pero aún no he encontrado ninguna.

No drapes, again.

Again, today our drapes are still not ready. Can any service department finish a job on time? Don't tell me it will be ready on Wednesday, then Thursday, and still, it is not done. They need a class in schools or universities called Customer Service.

Today was shopping day. cost 165 PLN($42). 2 days for Chicken noodle soup, 2 for zucchini soup, pork cutlets with roasted sweet potatoes and zucchini plus a salad, honey mustard chicken pasta, and pizza. That is the menu for the week's dinners.

At 12:15 we arrived at Le Grand to have our haircut. Marcus did his usual good job of cutting both of our hair and my beard and mustache. It's nice to see my mouth again.

We had unusually high winds with intermittent rain al day, It is predicted to last into the morning.

Dzisiaj, ponownie, nasze zasłony nadal nie są gotowe. Czy jakikolwiek serwis może skończyć pracę na czas? Nie mów mi, że to będzie gotowe w środę, potem w czwartek, a nadal nie jest zrobione. Potrzebują klasy w szkołach lub na uniwersytetach o nazwie Obsługa Klienta. 

Dzisiaj był dzień za zakupy. Koszt - 165 zł (42$). 2 dni na Chicken noodle soup, 2 na zupę z cukinii, kotlety wieprzowe z pieczonymi słodkimi ziemniakami i cukinią plus sałatka, makaron z kurczakiem w miodowej musztardzie i pizza. Tak wygląda menu na obiady na cały tydzień. 

O 12:15 dotarliśmy do Le Grand, aby się ostrzyc. Marcus wykonał swoją zwykłą, dobrą robotę podcinając nam włosy, a mnie  brodę i wąsy. Miło jest znów zobaczyć własne usta. 

Przez cały dzień nieliśmy niezwykle silne wiatry z przelotnym deszczem. Przewiduje się, że tak będzie do rana.

Hoy, de nuevo, nuestras cortinas aún no están terminadas. ¿Puede cualquier servicio terminar el trabajo a tiempo? No me digas que estará listo el miércoles, luego el jueves y todavía no está hecho. Necesitan una clase en las escuelas o universidades llamada Servicio al Cliente. 

Hoy era un día de compras. Coste - 165 libras (42 dólares). 2 días para sopa de fideos con pollo, 2 para sopa de calabacín, chuletas de cerdo con boniatos asados y calabacín más ensalada, pasta con pollo a la mostaza de miel y pizza. Este es el aspecto del menú para los almuerzos de la semana. 

A las 12:15 llegamos a Le Grand para cortarnos el pelo. Marcus hizo su buen trabajo habitual de recortarnos el pelo y mi barba y bigote. Es agradable ver mis propios labios de nuevo. 

A lo largo del día tuvimos vientos inusualmente fuertes con lluvia pasajera. Se prevé que se mantenga así hasta la mañana.

Drapes?

Drove to Poznania shopping center to pick up the drapes. Guess what? They didn't have them. The girl said they would be ready tomorrow afternoon. Can any of these companies do something right? I told her to send an SMS when they have them. I am not relying on spoken words. They cannot be trusted.

I had another surprise last night when I was going to make hamburgers for dinner. Our frying pans do not work on this new induction stovetop. I ended up frying them in a large soup pot that does work by induction. So, today we had to go and buy new induction frying pans. Cost, 85 PLN($22) for a set of 3.

I requested 3 more shelves for the cabinets and the owner had them made and will bring them over today. This landlord is very responsive to our requests. I like that.

Wyjechałem do centrum handlowego Posnania po zasłony. Zgadnijcie co? Nie mieli ich. Dziewczyna powiedziała, że będą gotowe jutro po południu. Czy któraś z tych firm może zrobić coś porządnie? Powiedziałem jej, żeby wysłała SMS-a, jak będą mieli. Nie będę polegał na słowach. Nie można im ufać. 

Kolejną niespodziankę miałem wczoraj wieczorem, kiedy na kolację zamierzałem zrobić hamburgery. Nasze patelnie nie działają na tej nowej kuchence indukcyjnej. Skończyło się na smażeniu ich w dużym garnku do zupy, który jest dostosowany do tego typu kuchenki. Tak więc, dzisiaj musieliśmy iść i kupić nowe patelnie indukcyjne. Koszt 85 zł (22$) za komplet 3 sztuk. 

Poprosiłem o 3 dodatkowe półki do szafek i właściciel zlecił ich wykonanie i przywiezie je dzisiaj. Ten właściciel bardzo szybko reaguje na nasze prośby. Podoba mi się to.

Caminó al centro comercial Poznania para recoger las cortinas. ¿Adivina qué? No las tenían. La chica dijo que estarían listas mañana por la tarde. ¿Puede alguna de estas empresas hacer algo bien? Le dije que enviara un SMS cuando las tuvieran. No me fío de las palabras habladas. No se puede confiar en ellas.

Anoche me llevé otra sorpresa cuando iba a hacer hamburguesas para cenar. Nuestras sartenes no funcionan en esta nueva cocina de inducción. Acabé friéndolas en una olla grande que sí funciona por inducción. Así que hoy hemos tenido que ir a comprar nuevas sartenes de inducción. Costo, 85 PLN($22) para un juego de 3.

Pedí 3 estantes más para los armarios y el propietario los mandó hacer y los traerá hoy. Este propietario es muy receptivo a nuestras peticiones. Eso me gusta.

So, you want to complain about the price of gasoline? Well, here, in Poland, we are paying about $6.80 per gallon. The price of gasoline and diesel should be in the range of PLN 5.90 to PLN 6.03  per liter in the coming week. “Due to the supply turmoil, the price of the liquid petroleum gas (LPG) will continue to increase; in the coming days, it will cost from PLN 3.11 to PLN 3.20  per liter” a website states. You can figure it out, 1 gal.= 4.5 liters.

Today was the day for haircuts. I had an SMS last week confirming our appointments at 10:30 and 11:30. I woke Joam up this morning at 9:00, got her dressed, fed her breakfast, put her into the car, and drove to the underground parking at Plac Wolnosci/ It's the closest I could get to the salon. From there it's about a 3 block ride in the wheelchair, not always easy because of the cobblestone street leading to LeGrand Salon. went inside to get help getting Joan up the steps only to find out they had no record of our appointment. Unfortunately, I deleted the SMS after I wrote it n my calendar. So, it was a wasted trip and I had to make a new appointment for Thursday.

I also tried to make appointments for our 3rd Covid shot but after to wait until the first week in November for me and the last week for Joan. Our 2nd shot will be 6 months ago by then, the required amount of time.

Dziś był dzień na wizytę u fryzjera. W zeszłym tygodniu dostałem SMS-a potwierdzającego nasze wizyty o 10:30 i 11:30. Rano o 9:00 obudziłem Joan, ubrałem ją, nakarmiłem śniadaniem, wsadziłem do samochodu i pojechałem na parking podziemny przy Placu Wolności. To najbliżej salonu, do którego mogłem dojechać. Stamtąd to około 3 przecznice jazdy z wózkiem inwalidzkim, nie zawsze łatwej z powodu brukowanej ulicy prowadzącej do LeGrand Salon. Wszedlem do środka, aby poprosić o pomoc w wejściu Joan po schodach, ale  tylko po to, aby dowiedzieć się, że nie mają zanotowanej naszej wizyty. Niestety, usunąłem SMS po zapisaniu go w moim kalendarzu. Więc, to była zmarnowana wyprawa i musiałem ustalić nowy termin na czwartek. 

Próbowałem też umówić się na nasz 3. szczepienie przeciwko  Covid, ale muszę czekać do pierwszego tygodnia listopada,  oraz ostatniego tygodnia dla Joan. Nasze 2. szczepienie było  6 miesięcy temu, a do kolejnego wymagany jest odpowiedni odstęp czasu.

oy era el día de los cortes de pelo. La semana pasada recibí un SMS confirmando nuestras citas a las 10:30 y a las 11:30. Desperté a Joam esta mañana a las 9:00, la vestí, le di de desayunar, la metí en el coche y conduje hasta el aparcamiento subterráneo de Plac Wolnosci/ Es lo más cerca que pude llegar a la peluquería. Desde allí hay un paseo de unas 3 manzanas en la silla de ruedas, no siempre fácil debido a la calle empedrada que lleva al salón LeGrand. Entré para que me ayudaran a subir a Joan por las escaleras sólo para descubrir que no tenían constancia de nuestra cita. Desgraciadamente, borré el SMS después de escribirlo en mi calendario. Así que fue un viaje desperdiciado y tuve que hacer una nueva cita para el jueves.

También intenté pedir cita para nuestra tercera vacuna Covid, pero después de esperar hasta la primera semana de noviembre para mí y la última semana para Joan. Para entonces ya habrán pasado 6 meses de nuestra segunda inyección, el tiempo requerido.

Elevator

A brand new building is where we live. Everything is new, less than 1 year completed. However, today we were stranded in our flat because the elevator didn't work. It was impossible to take Joan with me to the store. I went alone and then had to walk up 6 flights of stairs to get to our flat. There is no emergency number to call to get the elevator repaired on the weekend. If it had been an emergency for Joan, I could not have taken her to a hospital. I am not at all happy with that.

Miejsce, w którym mieszkamy to zupełnie nowy budynek. Wszystko jest nowe, oddane do użytku mniej niż 1 rok. Jednak dzisiaj utknęliśmy w naszym mieszkaniu, ponieważ winda nie działała. Nie dało się zabrać Joan do sklepu. Poszedłem sam, a potem musiałem pokonać 6 pięter schodów, aby dostać się do naszego mieszkania. Nie ma numeru alarmowego, pod który można zadzwonić, aby naprawić windę w weekend. Gdyby to był nagły wypadek Joan, nie mógłbym zabrać jej do szpitala. Wcale nie jestem z tego zadowolony.

Vivimos en un edificio nuevo. Todo es nuevo, con menos de un año de antigüedad. Sin embargo, hoy nos hemos quedado tirados en nuestro piso porque el ascensor no funcionaba. Era imposible llevar a Joan conmigo a la tienda. He ido solo y luego he tenido que subir 6 tramos de escaleras para llegar a nuestro piso. No hay ningún número de emergencia al que llamar para que reparen el ascensor durante el fin de semana. Si hubiera sido una emergencia para Joan, no habría podido llevarla al hospital. No estoy nada contento con eso.

We watched a very interesting 4-part mini-series on Netflix. "The Billion Dollar Code". The English language term “visionary programmer” is made up of two words. In the digital era, there are many famous collaborators where one is visionary, and the other is a programmer. That’s how “Apple” came to life. This story also has a duo, Carsten Schlüter, and Juri Müller, whose invention changed the way we look at the world. Only now you view it through Google Earth, not TerraVision as the duo named their program, 10 years before Google was even created.

You should be aware of the Miniseries’ ideas and how they claim that Google stole their ideas.

Today, the sun actually broke through the clouds for a little while so I took Joan to Carrefour to buy and new coffeepot compatible with the induction stovetop. The glass one we have will no longer do.

The high today was 15C and the co-op turned on the heat. I would prefer to have our own heating unit that I can regulate.

W tej historii również mamy duet Carsten Schlüter i Juri Müller, których wynalazek zmienił sposób, w jaki patrzymy na świat. Tylko teraz oglądamy go przez Google Earth, a nie TerraVision, jak duet nazwał swój program, 10 lat przed powstaniem Google. 

Powinieneś być świadomy pomysłów Miniseries i jak twierdzą, że Google ukradł ich pomysły. 

Dziś słońce faktycznie przebiło się na chwilę przez chmury, więc zabrałem Joannę do Carrefour, żeby kupić nowy dzbanek do kawy kompatybilny z kuchenką indukcyjną. Ten szklany, który mamy, już się nie 

Dziś temperatura na zewnątrz wynosiła 15C i spółdzielnia (co-op) lub wspólnota mieszkaniowa włączył ogrzewanie. Wolałbym mieć własną jednostkę grzewczą, którą mógłbym regulować.

En esta historia también hay un dúo, Carsten Schlüter, y Juri Müller, cuyo invento cambió nuestra forma de ver el mundo. Sólo que ahora se ve a través de Google Earth, y no de TerraVision como el dúo llamó a su programa, 10 años antes de que se creara Google.

Gray days

A gray day, 4th in a row. It's like a preview of the next 4 months. There is just something about the brilliance of the sun shining that makes me feel better. That's probably why we have spent the 4 winters in Spain. 

Today I put up a few more pictures and it does make a difference in the way I feel. I don't think about everyone all the time and pictures just remind me of them, even the most remote relative. So for a few minutes, my mind is occupied with the person in the picture. Usually, I haven't had contact with them in a long time or only once, it doesn't matter to me. Somewhere, up the ancestry line, we are connected by blood.

Yesterday was food shopping day. The cost was102 PLN for the week because I have a soup for 2 days and American Goulash for 2 also. 

Szary dzień, 4. z rzędu. To jak zapowiedź kolejnych 4 miesięcy. Jest coś takiego w blasku świecącego słońca, co sprawia, że czuję się lepiej. To pewnie dlatego spędziliśmy 4 zimy w Hiszpanii. 

Dziś powiesiłem kilka zdjęć i rzeczywiście widać różnicę w moim samopoczuciu. Nie myślę o wszystkich przez cały czas, a zdjęcia po prostu mi o nich przypominają, nawet o najbardziej odległych krewnych. Więc przez kilka minut mój umysł jest zajęty osobą na zdjęciu. Zazwyczaj nie miałem z nimi kontaktu od dawna lub tylko raz, nie ma to dla mnie znaczenia. Gdzieś tam, w linii rodowej, łączą nas więzy krwi. 

Wczoraj był dzień zakupów spożywczych. Koszt wyniósł 102 zł na tydzień, bo mam zupę na 2 dni i gulasz amerykański również na 2 dni.

Un día gris, el cuarto consecutivo. Es como un presagio de los próximos 4 meses que vendrán. Hay algo en el brillo del sol que me hace sentir mejor. Probablemente por eso pasamos 4 inviernos en España. 

Hoy he colgado algunas fotos y realmente se nota la diferencia en mi estado de ánimo. No pienso en todos todo el tiempo y las fotos sólo me recuerdan a ellos, incluso a los parientes más lejanos. Así que durante unos minutos mi mente está ocupada con la persona de la foto. Por lo general, no he tenido contacto con ellos durante mucho tiempo o sólo una vez, no me importa. En algún lugar de la línea familiar, estamos conectados por lazos de sangre.

The negative.

All things aside, the biggest negative I found is traffic. Anytime before 10:00 and 14:00(2 PM) traffic jams in the city. For example, today we wanted to go to Bisty to but some meet and made the mistake of going at 14:30. What usually should take 15 minutes took 1 hour. The streets are not wide enough now to take care of all the cars. There are simply too many cars. So the rule for us is to travel ONLY before the above-mentioned hours, except on weekends when traffic is much lighter.

A nice surprise was to read that the U.S. Government has finally realized a 1.5% increase yearly in Social Security payments is not enough to counter the rising inflation. Starting in 2022, our checks will increase by 5.9%. Depending on the rate of exchange, that could amount to about 500 PLN extra each month. We will see what happens in January.

Joan spent about 4 hours today looking through a box of old pictures and writing on the back of them who is in the picture and the approximate date of when it was taken. I thought it would be a good project for her to remember people and make it easier for her adult kids to know people. I have more than a few pictures of people I don't know because my mother is no longer here to tell me who they were.

Pomijając wszystko, największym minusem, jaki znalazłem jest ruch uliczny. O dowolnej porze przed 10:00 i 14:00 (2 PM) w mieście są korki. Na przykład dzisiaj, chcieliśmy pojechać do Bisty, by kupić mięso i popełniłem błąd udając się tam o 14:30. To, co zwykle powinno zająć 15 minut, zajęło godzinę. Ulice nie są teraz wystarczająco szerokie, aby pomieścić wszystkie samochody. Jest po prostu za dużo samochodów. Tak więc zasadą dla nas jest przejazd TYLKO przed wyżej wymienionymi godzinami, z wyjątkiem weekendów, kiedy ruch jest znacznie mniejszy.

Aparte de todo esto, el mayor inconveniente que encontré es el tráfico. A cualquier hora antes de las 10 de la mañana y de las 2 de la tarde hay atascos en la ciudad. Hoy, por ejemplo, queríamos ir a Bista a comprar carne y cometí el error de ir a las 14:30. Lo que normalmente debería llevar 15 minutos llevó una hora. Ahora las calles no son lo suficientemente anchas para dar cabida a todos los coches. Simplemente hay demasiados coches. Pensé que sería un buen proyecto para que ella recordara a las personas que aparecen en las fotos y para facilitar que sus hijos adultos conozcan a la gente. Tengo más de una foto de personas que no conozco porque mi madre ya no está para decirme quiénes eran.

Protest.

 The rallies last Sunday were held in response to a top court ruling that said key EU laws were "incompatible" with the Polish constitution.

Protests were held in about 100 towns and cities, with some 100,000 people gathering in the capital, Warsaw.

The ruling has raised concerns Poland could exit the EU, but the government has denied having any such intention.

The court's decision last Thursday effectively rejected the core principle that EU law has primacy over national legislation. It was the most significant challenge to the supremacy of EU law to date.

Meanwhile, back to Posnania to put in the order for the two panels of curtains. They can be picked up next Wednesday.

On September 28th, I sent an SMS  to our internet provider to the old flat to terminate our contract. This provider does not serve our new building location. I went today to return their router and they said I had to pay for October and November even though we will not be connected. I thought that was ridiculous and told them I notified them by SMS of my termination. They said they didn't accept SMS and it should have been in an email. OK, I can acc accept paying for October but November, no. Why should I pay for a month totally disconnected? This seems like a BIG rip-off to me.

Wiec w ostatnią niedzielę odbył się w odpowiedzi na orzeczenie sądu najwyższego, który stwierdził, że kluczowe prawa UE są "niezgodne" z polską konstytucją. 

Protesty odbyły się w około 100 miastach i miejscowościach, a w stolicy, Warszawie, zebrało się około 100 000 osób. 

Orzeczenie wzbudziło obawy, że Polska może opuścić UE, ale rząd zaprzeczył, że ma taki zamiar. 

Decyzja sądu z zeszłego czwartku skutecznie odrzuciła podstawową zasadę, że prawo UE ma pierwszeństwo przed ustawodawstwem krajowym. Było to jak dotąd najbardziej znaczące zakwestionowanie nadrzędności prawa unijnego. 

Tymczasem wracam do Posnanii, aby złożyć zamówienie na dwa panele zasłon. Będzie można je odebrać w najbliższą środę. 

28 września wysłałem SMS do naszego dostawcy internetu do starego mieszkania, aby wypowiedział nam umowę. Ten dostawca nie obsługuje budynku w naszej nowej lokalizacji. Poszedłem dzisiaj, aby zwrócić ich router i powiedzieli, że muszę zapłacić za październik i listopad, mimo że nie będziemy podłączeni. OK, mogę zaakceptować płacenie za październik, ale listopad, nie. Dlaczego miałbym płacić za miesiąc będąc całkowicie odłączonym ? Wydaje mi się to WIELKIM zdzierstwem.

Las concentraciones del pasado domingo se celebraron en respuesta a una sentencia del Tribunal Supremo que afirmaba que las leyes clave de la UE eran "incompatibles" con la Constitución polaca.

Las protestas se celebraron en un centenar de pueblos y ciudades, y en la capital, Varsovia, se reunieron unas 100.000 personas.

La sentencia ha suscitado la preocupación de que Polonia pueda salir de la UE, pero el gobierno ha negado tener esa intención.

La decisión del tribunal del pasado jueves rechaza el principio básico de que la legislación de la UE tiene primacía sobre la nacional. Se trata del mayor desafío a la supremacía de la legislación de la UE hasta la fecha.

Mientras tanto, vuelvo a Posnania para hacer el pedido de los dos paneles de cortinas. Se podrán recoger el próximo miércoles.

El 28 de septiembre envié un SMS a nuestro proveedor de Internet del antiguo piso para rescindir nuestro contrato. Este proveedor no da servicio a nuestra nueva ubicación en el edificio. Hoy he ido a devolverles el router y me han dicho que tengo que pagar los meses de octubre y noviembre aunque no vayamos a estar conectados. Me pareció ridículo y les dije que les había notificado por SMS mi rescisión. Me han dicho que no aceptan SMS y que debería haber sido en un correo electrónico. De acuerdo, puedo aceptar el pago de octubre, pero el de noviembre, no. ¿Por qué tengo que pagar un mes totalmente desconectado? Esto me parece una GRAN estafa.

Only 1 more thing to buy for the flat, drapes. We went to Leroy Merlin yesterday and found the color that we want but they have to be cut from material to fit the length from top to bottom. Each panel is 150cm wide so we will need 4 panels to cover the distance of 604 cm. 

Winter is slowly creeping in with a temperature tonight of 35 C. The living room door leading to the balcony has two air vents for fresh air but there is no way to close them. I guess I will just buy duck tape to seal them during the winter. Already I can feel the cold air coming in while I sit here and enter text. That will not do for the winter.

This LG computerized refrigerator is interesting. It even has a button to push before you go on vacation, 

Radek surprised me today with a visit. I wasn't sure that he would come every week because of the distance. This weekend he will travel to Warsaw for another tango event so next week we will probably meet on Wednesday.

It was a day for watching the highlights of the weekend NFL games, It is the only way we can see American football. Besides that, I rearranged some things to make them more accessible, made a roasted chicken with salad for dinner, made hair appointments for next week, and gave Joan a shower.

Jeszcze tylko 1 rzecz do kupienia do mieszkania, zasłony. Poszliśmy wczoraj do Leroy Merlin i znaleźliśmy kolor, który chcemy, ale muszą one być wycięte z materiału, aby dopasować długość od góry do dołu. Każdy panel ma 150cm szerokości, więc będziemy potrzebować 4 paneli na 604 cm. 

Zima powoli wkrada się do domu z temperaturą dziś wieczorem 35 C. Drzwi do salonu prowadzące na balkon mają dwa otwory wentylacyjne dla świeżego powietrza, ale nie ma sposobu, aby je zamknąć. Chyba po prostu kupię taśmę klejącą, żeby je zakleić na zimę. Już czuję zimne powietrze wpadające do środka, kiedy siedzę tu i wpisuję tekst. To nie zrobi dla zimy.

Ta skomputeryzowana lodówka LG jest interesująca. Ma nawet przycisk, który należy nacisnąć przed wyjazdem na wakacje, 

Radek zaskoczył mnie dzisiaj wizytą. Nie byłam pewna, czy będzie przyjeżdżał co tydzień ze względu na odległość. W ten weekend jedzie do Warszawy na kolejną imprezę tangową, więc w przyszłym tygodniu pewnie spotkamy się w środę.

To był dzień na oglądanie najważniejszych meczów NFL, to jedyny sposób, w jaki możemy zobaczyć futbol amerykański. Poza tym uporządkowałam kilka rzeczy, żeby były bardziej dostępne, zrobiłam pieczonego kurczaka z sałatką na kolację, umówiłam się z fryzjerem na przyszły tydzień i wzięłam prysznic dla Joanny.

Solo queda una cosa por comprar para el piso, las cortinas. Ayer fuimos a Leroy Merlin y encontramos el color que queremos, pero hay que cortar el material para que se ajuste a la longitud de arriba a abajo. Cada panel tiene 150cm de ancho así que necesitaremos 4 paneles para cubrir la distancia de 604 cm. 

El invierno está entrando lentamente con una temperatura esta noche de 35 C. La puerta de la sala de estar que da al balcón tiene dos rejillas de ventilación para el aire fresco, pero no hay manera de cerrarlas. Supongo que compraré cinta adhesiva para sellarlas durante el invierno. Ya puedo sentir el aire frío que entra mientras me siento aquí y escribo un texto. Eso no servirá para el invierno.

Este refrigerador computarizado de LG es interesante. Incluso tiene un botón que hay que pulsar antes de irse de vacaciones, 

Radek me sorprendió hoy con una visita. No estaba seguro de que viniera todas las semanas debido a la distancia. Este fin de semana viajará a Varsovia para otro evento de tango, así que la próxima semana probablemente nos encontraremos el miércoles.

Fue un día para ver los mejores momentos de los partidos de la NFL del fin de semana, es la única manera en que podemos ver el fútbol americano. Además de eso, reorganicé algunas cosas para hacerlas más accesibles, hice un pollo asado con ensalada para la cena, hice citas para el cabello para la próxima semana y le di una ducha a Joan.

A divided happiness.

I've had joy or happiness in my life in many different things or occasions. Today I experienced it in a surprising way. I bought a drawer divider for knives, forks, and spoons. Strange that such a small thing could make me happy. Previously, all of those utensils were just scattered around the drawer. Once I bought it, I couldn't wait to get home and organize the drawer. 

It was also the day I officially handed over the keys to the owner of the old apartment. She looked it all over and thought it looked just like new. She said she was sad to see us move but understood that under the health condition of Joan and her inability to use stairs, it was the best thing for us. It all took about 1/2 hour.

All I need to do now is hang a FEW pictures and then this place will feel more like home. On the other hand, I am going to miss seeing the faces of all the relatives I have met since moving here. Packing them in boxes not to be seen for a long time just doesn't seem right.

W moim życiu czułem radość lub szczęście z powodu wielu różnych rzeczy lub okazji. Dziś doświadczyłem tego w zaskakujący sposób. Kupiłem wkład do szuflady na noże, widelce i łyżki. Dziwne, że taka mała rzecz może mnie uszczęśliwić. Wcześniej wszystkie te przybory były po prostu porozrzucane po szufladzie. Kiedy już go kupiłem, nie mogłem się doczekać powrotu do domu i uporządkowania szuflady. 

Był to również dzień, w którym oficjalnie przekazałam klucze właścicielce starego mieszkania. Ona obejrzała wszystko i pomyślała, że wygląda, jak nowe. Mówiła, że czuła smutek, kiedy widziała, że się przeprowadzamy, ale rozumie, że kondycja zdrowotna Joan nie pozwala jej używać schodów i przenosiny są dla nas najlepszą rzeczą. To wszystko zajęło około 1/2 godziny. 

Wszystko co teraz potrzebuję zrobić, to powiesić KILKA obrazków, aby w tym miejscu poczuć się  jak w domu. Z drugiej strony, będę tęsknić, aby zobaczyć twarzy wszystkich krewnych, których poznałem od czasu przeprowadzki do Polski. Pakowanie zdjęć do pudełek, aby ich nie oglądać przez długi czas po prostu nie wydaje się właściwe.

He tenido alegría o felicidad en mi vida en muchas cosas u ocasiones diferentes. Hoy la he experimentado de una manera sorprendente. He comprado un separador de cajones para cuchillos, tenedores y cucharas. Es extraño que una cosa tan pequeña pueda hacerme feliz. Antes, todos esos utensilios estaban desperdigados por el cajón. Una vez que lo compré, no podía esperar a llegar a casa y organizar el cajón. 

También fue el día en que entregué oficialmente las llaves al propietario del antiguo apartamento. Lo miró todo y pensó que estaba como nuevo. Dijo que le daba pena que nos mudáramos, pero que entendía que, dado el estado de salud de Joan y su incapacidad para usar las escaleras, era lo mejor para nosotros. Todo esto nos llevó una media hora.

Todo lo que tengo que hacer ahora es colgar unos cuantos cuadros y entonces este lugar se sentirá más como un hogar. Por otro lado, voy a echar de menos ver las caras de todos los familiares que he conocido desde que me mudé aquí. Empaquetarlos en cajas para no verlos en mucho tiempo no me parece bien.

Saturday & Sunday

Saturday: Another day of 2 trips to the old flat to get remaining boxes and 2 rugs. The rugs were heavy to load and I could only take 1 on each trip. I didn't have a lot of space to lay them down so they waited until Sunday to stretch out. 

In the afternoon we took a trip to the shopping center Posnania to visit the Leroy Merlin store. It's the place for drapes(curtains) and we need them for the living room because the sun shines in. It is not bad now, with the colder weather coming, but in the summer it will make the flat too hot. There are no windows in the flat, only the two south-facing doors to the balcony. We won't have the cross-breeze we had in the old place.

Later, Gosia came and took some of our boxes that had things we don't use much to store in her basement.

Sunday: I finally got a night and more of sleep, 12 hours.  After breakfast, I put Joan in the car and we went for a little drive around our area to see what kind of small stores were available. The NFZ clinic is close so that is good. 

Back at home, I started to cut one of the rugs down under the dining table only to find out it was too big. In order to make it fit I had to cut part of one end off. The other one, just as big, fits under the recliners and sofa with no problem. However, the coffee table that once stood between the recliners and the TV was too wide to be of use so I dismantled it and will store it somewhere. Now, almost everything is in its place and it's beginning to feel more comfortable. 

Tomorrow I will meet with the owner of the old flat and return the keys to her.

Kolejny dzień z dwoma przejazdami do starego mieszkania po pozostałe pudła i 2 dywany. Dywaniki były nieporęczne do załadowania i mogłem zabrać tylko 1 za każdym razem. Nie miałem zbyt wiele miejsca, żeby je rozłożyć, więc czekały do niedzieli, żeby się rozprostować. 

Po południu wybraliśmy się na wycieczkę do centrum handlowego Posnania, aby odwiedzić sklep Leroy Merlin. To miejsce, gdzie można kupić zasłony, a potrzebujemy ich do salonu, bo świeci tam słońce. Teraz, gdy nadchodzi chłodniejsza pora, nie jest to złe, ale latem będzie nam w mieszkaniu za gorąco. W mieszkaniu nie ma okien, tylko dwoje drzwi na balkon od strony południowej. Nie będziemy mieli takiego wietrzyku, jaki mieliśmy w starym miejscu. 

Później przyszła Gosia i zabrała kilka naszych pudeł z rzeczami, których nie używamy, aby przechować je w swojej piwnicy.

U końcu udało mi się przespać noc aż przez 12 godzin.  Po śniadaniu wsadziłem Joan do samochodu i pojechaliśmy na małą przejażdżkę po naszej okolicy, żeby zobaczyć, jakie małe sklepy są dostępne. Przychodnia NFZ jest blisko, więc to dobrze. 

Po powrocie do domu zacząłem przycinać jeden z dywaników pod stół w jadalni, kiedy okazało się, że jest za duży. Aby go dopasować, musiałem odciąć część z jednej strony. Drugi, tak samo duży, pasuje bez problemu pod kanapy i rozkładane fotele. Jednak stolik kawowy, który kiedyś stał między kanapami a telewizorem był zbyt szeroki, żeby go wykorzystać, więc go zdemontowałem i będę go gdzieś przechowywać. Teraz prawie wszystko jest na swoim miejscu i zaczynam się czuć bardziej komfortowo. 

Jutro spotkam się z właścicielką starego mieszkania i oddam jej klucze.

Sábado: Otro día de 2 viajes al antiguo piso para coger las cajas restantes y 2 alfombras. Las alfombras eran pesadas de cargar y sólo pude llevar 1 en cada viaje. No tenía mucho espacio para colocarlas así que esperaron hasta el domingo para estirarse. 

Por la tarde hicimos un viaje al centro comercial Posnania para visitar la tienda de Leroy Merlin. Es el lugar de las cortinas y las necesitamos para el salón porque entra el sol. No está mal ahora, con la llegada del frío, pero en verano hará que el piso sea demasiado caluroso. No hay ventanas en el piso, sólo las dos puertas orientadas al sur que dan al balcón. No tendremos la brisa cruzada que teníamos en la antigua casa.

Más tarde, Gosia vino y se llevó algunas de nuestras cajas que tenían cosas que no usamos mucho para guardarlas en su sótano.

El domingo: Por fin pude dormir una noche y más, 12 horas.  Después de desayunar, metí a Joan en el coche y nos fuimos a dar una vuelta por nuestra zona para ver qué tipo de tiendas pequeñas había. La clínica NFZ está cerca, así que eso es bueno. 

De vuelta a casa, empecé a cortar una de las alfombras que hay debajo de la mesa del comedor, pero me di cuenta de que era demasiado grande. Para que cupiera, tuve que cortar parte de un extremo. La otra, igual de grande, cabe bajo los sillones y el sofá sin problemas. Sin embargo, la mesa de centro que antes estaba entre los sillones reclinables y la TV era demasiado ancha para ser útil, así que la desmonté y la guardaré en algún lugar. Ahora, casi todo está en su sitio y empieza a ser más cómodo. 

Mañana me reuniré con la propietaria del antiguo piso y le devolveré las llaves.

 Where to begin? Yesterday I was supposed to meet the serviceman to repair the electric stovetop. He never appeared

Ikea did appear at the appointed time and put the bed together. The rest of the day I spent unpacking.

Storage space is at a minimum in our flat and I discovered storage shelves at IKEA. I bought 3 of them, 2 for the kitchen annex and one for next to my computer to store cameras, copy paper, books, etc. Tomorrow Gosia will come and take some of the boxes of pictures for storage in her house.

It's been one week since the move and a frustrating one. Even with all of the boxes empty now, I still haven't found my Spanish study books. I don't know how many times I have put something down and all of a sudden I can't find it. It's like running around in circles.

Today, a not too pleasant woman called to say the repairman was at the flat now and had to be paid in cash. Probably because there will be no record of it. I told her I didn't understand much of what she said and she turned off our conversation. Why are there so many rude people?

Od czego zacząć? Wczoraj miałem się spotkać z serwisantem, który miał naprawić kuchenkę elektryczną. Nie pojawił się. 

Ikea pojawiła się o umówionej godzinie i złożyła łóżko. Resztę dnia spędziłem na rozpakowywaniu. 

Przestrzeń do przechowywania jest w naszym mieszkaniu minimalna, ale odkryłem półki w IKEA, gdzie kupiłem 3, z których 2 będą do aneksu kuchennego, a jedna stanie obok komputera, żeby przechowywać aparat,  kopie, książki, itp. Jutro przyjedzie Gosia i zabierze część pudeł ze zdjęciami do przechowania w swoim domu. 

Minął tydzień od przeprowadzki i był to tydzień frustrujący. Nawet gdy wszystkie pudła są już puste, nadal nie znalazłem moich książek do nauki hiszpańskiego. Nie wiem, ile razy odkładałem coś na bok i nagle nie mogę tego znaleźć. To jak bieganie w kółko.

 ¿Por dónde empezar? Ayer tenía que encontrarme con el técnico para reparar la estufa eléctrica. Nunca apareció.

Ikea sí apareció a la hora acordada y montó la cama. El resto del día lo pasé desempaquetando.

El espacio de almacenamiento es mínimo en nuestro piso y descubrí las estanterías de almacenamiento en IKEA. Compré 3, 2 para el anexo de la cocina y una para al lado de mi ordenador para guardar cámaras, papel de copia, libros, etc. Mañana vendrá Gosia y se llevará algunas de las cajas de fotos para guardarlas en su casa.

Ya ha pasado una semana desde la mudanza y ha sido frustrante. Incluso con todas las cajas vacías ahora, todavía no he encontrado mis libros de estudio de español. No sé cuántas veces he dejado algo y de repente no lo encuentro. Es como correr en círculos.

Hoy ha llamado una mujer no demasiado agradable para decir que el reparador estaba ya en el piso y que había que pagarle en efectivo. Probablemente porque no habrá constancia de ello. Le he dicho que no entendía mucho de lo que decía y ha cortado nuestra conversación. ¿Por qué hay tanta gente maleducada?

 Too busy to write today.

2nd day.

 The above picture is oh so true. I've been looking for my Spanish language study books for 2 days and haven't found them yet, I have only two more boxes to unpack.

The second day, Ikea delivered the sofa and bed.  had previously set up our first bed from them and had no problems. However, this time I could not get two of the corners to lock in place.  After trying for 5 hours I was too tired to take it any further. I took a chance, put the mattress down, and put on the bedding so we could sleep. Fortunately, it work well enough but I still had to wait until Monday to call the service department to send someone to fix the problem. They told me he would be here today between 11:00-13:00. We waited, and waited, and at 13:30 we drove to Ikea to the service department to find out what happened. They said they had no record of our appointment and made another one for this Thursday.

On Monday the technician from Inea was here to set up our internet and TV. It took him about an hour; He asked if I had any questions and I told him no. He said usually clients have questions after he left. He was right. When the TV was off for a while and I turned it on, it wouldn't turn on no matter what I tried. Trying to call them was a joke. First, they didn't answer and later the recording said it would be a 3-hour wait for an operator to answer.  Now it's Tuesday and we still have no working TV.

On the bright side, our nearest shopping mall is now Panorama. It's ten minutes away and they have a Carrefour and Sowa's. Both of them are much larger than our previous ones/ I took Joan for a cruise through Carrefour so I could get acquainted with where products are located. It would take a few trips shopping before I remember where everything is.

Na drugi dzień Ikea dostarczyła sofę i łóżko. Poprzedni sprzęt od nich zakupiony złożylem bez problemu. Jednak tym razem nie mogłem stabilnie połączyć dwóch rogów . Po wielu próbach  i 5 godzinach byłem zbyt zmęczony, aby kontynuować.  Położylem materac, pościeliłem, więc mogliśmy spać. Na szczęście wszystko działało dobrze, ale i tak musiałem czekać do poniedziałku, żeby zadzwonić do serwisu, aby przysłali kogoś, kto rozwiąże problem. Powiedzieli mi, że będzie dzisiaj między 11:00 a 13:00. Czekaliśmy, i czekaliśmy, i o 13:30 pojechaliśmy do Ikea do działu obsługi, aby dowiedzieć się, co się stało. Powiedzieli, że nie mają notatki o wizycie u nas i umówili kolejną na ten czwartek. 

W poniedziałek był u nas technik z Inea , aby skonfigurować nasz internet i telewizję. Zajęło mu to około godziny; zapytał, czy mam jakieś pytania, a ja powiedziałem mu, że nie. Powiedział, że zazwyczaj klienci mają pytania po jego wyjściu. Miał rację. Kiedy telewizor był wyłączony przez jakiś czas i włączyłem go ponownie,  nie zadziałał bez względu na to, co próbowałem. Próba dodzwonienia się do nich była żartem. Najpierw nie odbierali, a później w nagraniu była informacja , że trzeba będzie czekać 3 godziny na operatora, który odbierze połączenie.  Teraz jest wtorek, a my nadal nie mamy działającego telewizora. 

Z drugiej strony, naszym najbliższym centrum handlowym jest teraz Panorama. Jest dziesięć minut drogi stąd i mają tam Carrefour i Sowę. Oba są o wiele większe niż poprzednie   z ktorych korzystaliśmy. Zabrałem Joan na wycieczkę po Carrefourze, żebym mógł się zapoznać z rozmieszczeniem produktów. Zanim zapamiętam, gdzie co jest, minie kilka wypraw na zakupy.

 La imagen de arriba es tan cierta. He estado buscando mis libros de estudio de español durante 2 días y no los he encontrado todavía, sólo tengo dos cajas más para desempaquetar.

El segundo día, Ikea entregó el sofá y la cama. Ya había montado nuestra primera cama de ellos y no tuve problemas. Sin embargo, esta vez no pude conseguir que dos de las esquinas encajaran en su sitio.  Después de intentarlo durante 5 horas, estaba demasiado cansado para seguir adelante. Me arriesgué, bajé el colchón y puse la ropa de cama para poder dormir. Afortunadamente, funcionó bastante bien, pero aún tuve que esperar hasta el lunes para llamar al servicio técnico para que enviaran a alguien a arreglar el problema. Me dijeron que llegaría hoy entre las 11:00 y las 13:00. Esperamos, y esperamos, y a las 13:30 nos dirigimos a Ikea al departamento de servicio para saber qué había pasado. Nos dijeron que no tenían constancia de nuestra cita y concertaron otra para este jueves.

El lunes el técnico de Inea estuvo aquí para configurar nuestro internet y televisión. Tardó aproximadamente una hora; me preguntó si tenía alguna pregunta y le dije que no. Dijo que normalmente los clientes tienen preguntas después de que él se fuera. Tenía razón. Cuando la TV estuvo apagada por un tiempo y la encendí, no se encendía sin importar lo que intentara. Intentar llamarles fue una broma. Primero no contestaron y después la grabación decía que serían 3 horas de espera para que un operador contestara.  Ahora es martes y seguimos sin televisión que funcione.

El lado positivo es que nuestro centro comercial más cercano es ahora Panorama. Está a diez minutos y tienen un Carrefour y un Sowa's. Ambos son mucho más grandes que los anteriores/ Llevé a Joan a dar una vuelta por Carrefour para que se familiarizara con la ubicación de los productos. Me llevaría unos cuantos viajes de compras antes de recordar dónde está todo.

Exhausted!

That is not an understatement. My whole body feels like it has been run over by a truck. 12 years ago when we moved the first time I didn't feel like this. I guess I've aged a little.

The movers arrived at 9:30 and began loading the truck but then realized they needed a bigger one. One of the three movers when for the new truck while the other two proceeded to wrap everything in cellophane.  When all of the furniture was wrapped, they proceeded to take the 48 boxes I hads packed down to the new truck. The china cabinet and the coat cabinet wouldn't fit into the new flat so I gave them to the movers.

The moving crew was very amiable and one spoke English so there was no communication problem. They agreed to take the broken bed to the garbage dump. I would recommend them if you live in Poznan and need a moving company.

I thought they would have to dismantle the two large clothing cabinets but they managed to carry them down the stairs. I am sure it wasn't easy. Harder for them was when they got to the new apartment and the cabinets were too large for the elevator. They had o carry them up to the fourth floor.

About 16:30(4:30 PM) the truck was packed and on its way to the new flat. I had 4 tall cabinets also that stored my music collection, DVDs,  cassettes, important papers, and VHS tapes. I didn't think all 4 would fit in the new flat but they managed to squeeze the 4th one in by the 2 clothes cabinets that stand in the hall. I was thankful for that.

Finally, at 19:00(7 PM) they were finished and on their way home. Our flat was so crowded with furniture and boxes I just had to start unpacking. Every day since Friday it is what I have been doing until at least midnight. Even now, I still have more to unpack and try to find space to put things.

To nie jest niedomówienie. Całe moje ciało czuje się jakby przejechała po nim ciężarówka. 12 lat temu, kiedy przeprowadzaliśmy się po raz pierwszy, nie czułem się tak. Chyba trochę się postarzałem.

Ekipa przybyła o 9:30 i zaczęła załadowywać ciężarówkę, ale potem zdała sobie sprawę, że potrzebują większy samochód. Jeden z trzech pracowników poszedł po nową ciężarówkę, podczas gdy pozostali dwaj przystąpili do owijania wszystkiego w celofan.  Kiedy wszystkie meble były owinięte, przystąpili do zabrania 48 pudeł, które wcześniej spakowałem,  na dół do nowej ciężarówki. Szafka na porcelanę i szafka na płaszcze nie zmieściłyby się do nowego mieszkania, więc oddałem je ekipie przeprowadzkowej.

Ekipa przeprowadzkowa była bardzo sympatyczna, a jeden z panów mówił po angielsku, więc nie było problemu z komunikacją. Zgodzili się zabrać połamane łóżko na śmietnik. Jeśli ktoś mieszka w Poznaniu i potrzebuje firmy przeprowadzkowej, to ich polecam. 

Myślałem, że będą musieli zdemontować dwie duże szafy na ubrania, ale udało im się je znieść po schodach. Jestem pewien, że nie było to łatwe. Trudniej im było, kiedy dotarli do nowego mieszkania i szafy były za duże, by wnieść je do windy. Musieli je wnieść na czwarte piętro po schodach.

Około 16:30 (4:30 PM) ciężarówka była zapakowana i w drodze do nowego mieszkania. Miałem też 4 wysokie szafy, w których przechowywałem moją kolekcję muzyki, płyty DVD, kasety, ważne dokumenty i kasety VHS. Nie sądziłem, że wszystkie 4 zmieszczą się w nowym mieszkaniu, ale udało im się wcisnąć czwartą z nich między 2 szafki na ubrania, które stały w przedpokoju. Byłem im za to wdzięczny.

W końcu, o 19:00 (7 PM) skończyli i odjechali. Nasze mieszkanie było tak zatłoczone meblami i pudłami, że po prostu musiałem zacząć się rozpakowywać. Od piątku począwszy, każdego następnego dnia robiłem to co najmniej do północy. Nawet teraz, wciąż mam więcej do rozpakowania i próbuję znaleźć miejsce na wszystkie rzeczy.

Eso no es un eufemismo. Todo mi cuerpo se siente como si lo hubiera atropellado un camión. Hace 12 años, cuando nos mudamos por primera vez, no me sentía así. Supongo que he envejecido un poco.

Los de la mudanza llegaron a las 9:30 y empezaron a cargar el camión pero luego se dieron cuenta de que necesitaban uno más grande. Uno de los tres mozos de mudanza cuando para el nuevo camión mientras los otros dos procedieron a envolver todo en celofán.  Cuando todos los muebles estaban envueltos, procedieron a llevar las 48 cajas que había empaquetado al nuevo camión. El armario de porcelana y el armario de abrigos no cabían en el nuevo piso, así que se los di a los de la mudanza.

El equipo de la mudanza era muy amable y uno de ellos hablaba inglés, así que no hubo ningún problema de comunicación. Aceptaron llevar la cama rota al vertedero. Los recomendaría si vives en Poznan y necesitas una empresa de mudanzas.

Pensé que tendrían que desmontar los dos grandes armarios de ropa pero se las arreglaron para bajarlos por las escaleras. Estoy seguro de que no fue fácil. Más difícil fue cuando llegaron al nuevo apartamento y los armarios eran demasiado grandes para el ascensor. Tuvieron que subirlos hasta el cuarto piso.

Sobre las 16:30 (4:30 PM) el camión estaba empaquetado y de camino al nuevo piso. También tenía 4 armarios altos en los que guardaba mi colección de música, DVDs, casetes, papeles importantes y cintas de VHS. No creí que los 4 cupieran en el nuevo piso, pero consiguieron meter el cuarto junto a los 2 armarios de ropa que hay en el pasillo. Lo agradecí.

Finalmente, a las 19:00 (7 de la tarde) terminaron y se fueron a casa. Nuestro piso estaba tan lleno de muebles y cajas que tuve que empezar a desempacar. Todos los días desde el viernes es lo que he estado haciendo hasta por lo menos la medianoche. Incluso ahora, todavía tengo más cosas que desempaquetar y tratar de encontrar espacio para poner las cosas.
