The weather is heading toward winter. For the last three days, it has been in the high 60s, gray, and rainy. Not the best weather to take Joan outside, so we have been cooped up in our flat.
I pulled back from making daily posts to the different social media groups I'm in. There is as much complacency about taking any concrete action against the vile administration in them. Most are satisfied just clicking an icon if they like a post but not answering the call to action. In the last presidential election, over 108 million Americans didn't even vote. If just 2% had voted for Harris, this world wouldn't be in as much turmoil as it is now with Donnie in charge of the U.S.
Meanwhile, Ukraine.
Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the state-owned Kombinat Kamensky plant in Russia's Rostov region overnight on Aug. 23-24, sparking a fire, Ukraine's General Staff reported. The facility produces solid rocket propellant for Uragan, Smerch and Tornado-S multiple rocket launcher systems, as well as other missile and air-launched weapons. The extent of the damage is being assessed. The strike follows an Aug. 22 attack on a Russian oil loading complex in Krasnodar Krai.
Fifteen people, including two children, were injured after a Russian drone crashed in Chernihiv, Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported.
The European Union released €6.1 billion ($7.1 billion) in military aid for Ukraine on Monday to strengthen its air defenses, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced ahead of talks between Ukraine and its allies. The funding will go toward air and missile defense systems, missiles, ammunition and radars, as Russia carried out 376 missile strikes in July alone. The aid is part of a broader €90 billion EU loan package for Ukraine.
Conor Kennedy joined Ukraine’s International Legion in 2022, at the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, and is believed to have departed in October the same year after a brief stint. A Moscow court has accused him of mercenarism and placed him on its wanted list in August, with a seven- to 10-year sentence.
