All of my adult life, I have heard that one or two people don't make a difference. You can't tell that to my nephew Jeff and his wife Annemarie. They live in Griffith, Indiana.
Last week, a storm or tornado went through their town, causing severe damage to power lines, downing many trees, and leaving hundreds of people without electricity.
About one-third of the town remains without power, or roughly 5,500 customers, according to town leaders, who are urging NIPSCO to speed up restoration efforts.
Jeff and his wife decided that they were going to help the elderly and disabled people in their neighborhood. Their decision was to provide a hot meal for any elderly or disabled person who needed it. They had in mind to feed at least 50 residents, and they had a plan laid out for how they were going to be able to accomplish it. The idea was to ask for volunteers to make deliveries of the meals that they would prepare. They asked for volunteers to help them accomplish this, and when it was all over, they had fed 60 people. That's quite an accomplishment on their part and the volunteers'. So, one or two people can make a difference if they want to. I have to congratulate them both on their Community involvement and perseverance in carrying out their plan.
