Tomorrow

Tomorrow is Independence Day in Poland and Veterans Day in the U.S.  A celebration in one country that regained its independence and in the other of the men and women who served to keep its country free. I am proud to say I was part of the latter. I served 4 years in the United States Navy and was fortunate enough not to fight in any war. I was first stationed in Florida and the U.S.S. Saratoga, an aircraft carriers, serving in a long-range bomber squadron. The next 2 years were spent in Spain and the last in Maryland. I was honorably discharged just before Vietnam started.

Now I live in Poland, the land of my ancestors, and celebrate both events on November 11th. I am proud of both.

National Independence Day is a national day in Poland celebrated on 11 November to commemorate the anniversary of the restoration of Poland's sovereignty as the Second Polish Republic in 1918 from the German. Austrian-Hungarian and Russian Empires. Following the partitions in the late 18th century, Poland ceased to exist for 123 years until the end of  World War 1, when the destruction of the neighboring powers allowed the country to reemerge. 

Jutro jest Dzień Niepodległości w Polsce i Dzień Weteranów w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Święto w jednym kraju, który odzyskał niepodległość, a w drugim z mężczyzn i kobiet, którzy służyli, aby utrzymać swój kraj wolny. Z dumą mogę powiedzieć, że byłem częścią tego ostatniego. Służyłem 4 lata w marynarce wojennej Stanów Zjednoczonych i miałem szczęście nie walczyć w żadnej wojnie. Najpierw stacjonowałem na Florydzie i w USA Saratoga, lotniskowce, służące w eskadrze bombowców dalekiego zasięgu. Następne 2 lata spędził w Hiszpanii, a ostatni w Maryland. Zostałem honorowo zwolniony tuż przed rozpoczęciem Wietnamu.

Teraz mieszkam w Polsce, kraju moich przodków, i obchodzę oba wydarzenia 11 listopada. Jestem dumny z obu.

Narodowy Dzień Niepodległości to narodowy dzień w Polsce obchodzony 11 listopada w celu upamiętnienia rocznicy przywrócenia suwerenności Polski jako drugiej Rzeczypospolitej w 1918 roku przez Niemcy. Imperia austriacko-węgierskie i rosyjskie. Po rozbiorach pod koniec XVIII wieku Polska przestała istnieć przez 123 lata do końca I wojny światowej, kiedy zniszczenie sąsiednich mocarstw pozwoliło krajowi na powrót.
