K & J arrive

Too busy yesterday to write. Karen and Joe arrived about 12:00 and we went to the beach area for a nice breakfast of eggs and ham. They told us all about the adventures they had in Barcelona, how fantastic the weather was, how crazy the traffic is, that they hadn't slept for almost 2 days because there was so much they wanted to see and do and so little time to see it all. They took a 5 hour train ride to Alicante on Wednesday, rented a car and drove down to their Airbnb place they rented close to our place. The owner met them, about 22:00, gave them the keys and then left. The owner didn't speak any English. When they tried opening the door, they had difficulty with the key and it took them about 10 minutes to figure out how to do it.

Yesterday after breakfast we drove to Bateria de Castellitos so they could see the BIG guns on top of the mountain. Joe did the driving up and down the winding, narrow mountain road and I was able to view the scenery. That was nice. We managed to get Joan to the compound but not up the winding staircase so she remained in her chair below while I took Karen and Joe to the top to see the guns. Naturally, they were amazed at their size but more amazed at the fantastic scenery of the bay of Cartagena and the Mediterranean Sea. It is quite awesome to view both of them at the same time. Joe used his flashlight on his phone so we also explored the dark tunnels of the interior compound.

We got back the Ribera about 18:30, did some food shopping at Carrefour and decided to have dinner at Casa Pedro. Carmen told me it was a good restaurant so I called to see if they were open. By then it was already 20:00 and they were. We put the location into Google maps, it was just a short distance away. Following the instructions, we couldn't find it. I got out of the car and asked someone where it was. He told me and to my wonderment realized we have passed it many times going to Marazul for coffee.

All of our dinners were excellent and Pedro recommended a very good local wine as well. We finished dinner about 22:30 and returned home. Today we start the day with Joe's haircut and shave at 11:00.
