Consulates.

Talking with the American Consular today I was more than surprised to find out that after 43 years of service she has no benefits other than a paycheck. No health insurance, paid vacations and no retirement plan. The first 20 years she was considered a Foreign Service worker and employed by the Polish government to work with American foreigners as a consultant where she learned to do the exact things she does now. At that time she had all of the benefits. She was then hired by the U.S. as an American Consulate paid by the U.S. government but that was all she received, just money for her time without any benefits. She has worked like that for the last 23 years. I assumed that as an employee of the American government she had all the normal benefits but that is not the case, evidently. She should have been treated more fairly than that for all the good service she has provided to Americans in Poland.

A meeting with Zbyszek at 15:00 lasted until 16:00 where we talked about politics of our 2 governments and the speech of "Orange Head" at the U.N. Neither of us were happy about it.

Dzisiaj, kiedy rozmawiałem z amerykańskim konsulem byłem zaskoczony, gdy dowiedziałem się, że po 43 latach służby nie ma żadnych innych korzyści poza wypłatą. Nie ma ubezpieczenia zdrowotnego, płatnego urlopu i planu emerytalnego. Przez pierwsze 20 lat była uważana za pracownika służby zagranicznej i zatrudniona przez polski rząd, aby pracować z amerykańskimi obcokrajowcami jako konsultant, gdzie nauczyła się robić dokładnie to, co teraz robi. W tym czasie miała pełny pakiet socjalny. Następnie została zatrudnione przez rząd USA, ale wszystko, co otrzymała, to były tylko pieniądze za czas pracy bez żadnych dodatków. Pracowała w ten sposób przez ostatnie 23 lata. Zakładałem, że jako pracownik amerykańskiego rządu ma wszystkie normalne dodatki, ale najwyraźniej tak nie jest. Powinna być traktowana bardziej uczciwie niż to, co otrzymała za całą, dobrą służbę, jaką prowadziła dla Amerykanów w Polsce.


Spotkanie ze Zbyszkiem o 15:00 trwało do 16.00, podczas którego rozmawialiśmy o polityce naszych rządów i przemówieniu "Pomarańczowej Głowy" w ONZ. Żadne z nas się nie cieszyło.
