Day to rest?

 A day to rest? NOT exactly! We started the day with a breakfast of muesli, bananas, oranges, and a protein mix. After that, we watched 5 pre-season highlights of NFL football. Then, before the sun was on the balcony. I took Joan out onto it and gave her her book to read.

I spent the next 5 hours carefully packing 5 boxes with plates, cups, saucers, coffee pots, utensils, baking dishes, and glasses. I am not done yet and already I have 32 boxes packed. I am running out of room where to put the next ones.

At 5PM, we did our weekly Skype with Karen.

For dinner, I made a very tasty American Goulas consisting of beef, onions, tomato sauce and paste, Italian seasoning, beef bullion, paprika, garlic, and black beans. Joan liked it.

I heard some very disturbing news yesterday. The wide river, Odra, is the geological border that separates Germany from Poland. 

WARSAW, Poland — Poland’s prime minister said Friday that “huge amounts of chemical waste” were probably dumped intentionally into the Oder River, which runs along the border with Germany, causing environmental damage so severe it will take the river years to recover.

Tons of dead fish have been seen floating or washed ashore on the Oder’s banks over the past two weeks but the issue only erupted into a major scandal late this week.

German media have reported that the poison is mercury, although this has not been officially confirmed.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the mass fish die-off. Huge numbers of dead fish were first spotted near the southwestern Polish town of Olawa in late July, along with dead animals such as beavers.

Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak announced Thursday that soldiers and reservists were being deployed to help remove pollutants from the river, which is known as the Oder in German and the Odra in Polish and Czech. It flows north for hundreds of miles from the Oder Mountains of Czechia and empties into the Baltic Sea.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said, “This shows that we are dealing with a gigantic and outrageous ecological catastrophe,” at a news conference near the river where officials faced angry residents.--Source-Washington Post.

Dzień na odpoczynek? NIE do końca!!! Dzień rozpoczęliśmy od śniadania złożonego z musli, bananów, pomarańczy i mieszanki proteinowej. Po nim obejrzeliśmy 5 przedsezonowych highlightów futbolu NFL. Następnie, zanim słońce pojawiło się na balkonie. Wyciągnąłem na niego Joan i dałem jej książkę do czytania.

Kolejne 5 godzin spędziłem na starannym pakowaniu 5 pudeł z talerzami, filiżankami, spodkami, dzbankami do kawy, naczyniami do zapiekania i szklankami. Jeszcze nie skończyłam, a już mam spakowane 32 pudła. Brakuje mi miejsca, gdzie można by umieścić kolejne.

O 17:00 zrobiliśmy nasz cotygodniowy Skype z Karen.

Na kolację zrobiłem bardzo smaczny amerykański Goulas składający się z wołowiny, cebuli, sosu pomidorowego i pasty, włoskiej przyprawy, bulionu wołowego, papryki, czosnku i czarnej fasoli. Joannie smakowało.

Wczoraj usłyszałem bardzo niepokojące wiadomości. Szeroka rzeka, Odra, jest geologiczną granicą, która oddziela Niemcy od Polski. 

WARSZAWA, Polska - Premier Polski powiedział w piątek, że "ogromne ilości odpadów chemicznych" zostały prawdopodobnie celowo wrzucone do rzeki Odry, która biegnie wzdłuż granicy z Niemcami, powodując szkody środowiskowe tak poważne, że zajmie rzece lata, aby odzyskać.

Minister obrony Mariusz Błaszczak ogłosił w czwartek, że żołnierze i rezerwiści zostali wysłani do pomocy w usuwaniu zanieczyszczeń z rzeki, która jest znana jako Odra w języku niemieckim i Odra w języku polskim i czeskim. Płynie ona na północ przez setki kilometrów od Gór Odrzańskich w Czechach i uchodzi do Morza Bałtyckiego.

¿Un día para descansar? No exactamente. Empezamos el día con un desayuno de muesli, plátanos, naranjas y una mezcla de proteínas. Ayer me enteré de una noticia muy preocupante. El ancho río Odra es la frontera geológica que separa Alemania de Polonia. 

VARSOVIA, Polonia - El primer ministro polaco dijo el viernes que probablemente se vertieron intencionadamente "enormes cantidades de residuos químicos" en el río Oder, que discurre a lo largo de la frontera con Alemania, causando un daño medioambiental tan grave que el río tardará años en recuperarse.
