Bird of Paradise

The bird of paradise opened while we were in Granada. It was such a beautiful sight to see after 3 stress filled hours coming home. I lost the keys to our house and Karen and Joe's bags were in the house. I was going to have a duplicate made before they arrived but the idea got lost when they came. So, we had no way to get into the house, no spare key and it was already 16:00. I called 2 friends here and they were trying to find a locksmith to come to the house to replace the lock. I had sent a message earlier to the owner asking if she knew a locksmith but no answer. Just 5 minutes before we reached the house, Carmen called and said they found a third key to the house and would bring it right over. Even though it was gray and raining, I felt the sun shine in my head. Then I saw the bird of paradise and the world was whole again.

The rest of the short evening was an emotional few hours a saying goodbye, mostly for Joan and her daughter Karen. Karen says she will be back next year and I hope we can be also. Only time will tell if it is possible. I do know Joan has had a very good time being here and does not want to go home. When it is 35c or 40c she would be more likely to want to go back but now the weather is good.

Karen wrote this morning of a little problem trying to get back to the U.S...…"Can you believe that Iberia airlines sold one of our tickets and we couldn’t get on the plane? Well one of us could have gotten on but we are traveling together so we are flying to Madrid at 14:00 then staying the night there in a 2 room hotel room then flying out to Chicago in the morning. Iberia is paying for food, hotel, taxi and giving us 600 euro each. It’s not the worst thing but I want my bed!!"

Wysłałem wcześniej wiadomość do właściciela z pytaniem, czy zna ślusarza, ale nie ma odpowiedzi. Zaledwie 5 minut przed dotarciem do domu Carmen zadzwoniła i powiedziała, że ​​znaleźli trzeci klucz do domu i natychmiast go przywieźli. Mimo że był szary i padał deszcz, poczułem, jak słońce świeci w mojej głowie. Potem zobaczyłem rajskiego ptaka i świat znów był cały.

Reszta krótkiego wieczoru była emocjonującą parą godzin pożegnania, głównie dla Joan i jej córki Karen. Karen mówi, że wróci w przyszłym roku i mam nadzieję, że możemy być także. Tylko czas pokaże, czy to możliwe. Wiem, że Joan bardzo dobrze się tu bawiła i nie chce wracać do domu. Gdy będzie 35c lub 40c, będzie bardziej skłonna do powrotu, ale teraz pogoda jest dobra.
