17

After breakfast, I bundled Joan up in her coat and hat and took her out to the balcony. It wasn't really cold but the wind was blowing a little chilly so I wrapped her up. She stood up today for 17 minutes and practiced bending her legs. I have another friend who's father also has a problem with movement now. It's funny how we take such a simple movement for granted when you're healthy. When we were done, Joan had a little rest.

While Joan was resting, I had an enjoyable Skype conversation with two friends who live in Paczkowo, a small village east of Poaznań. It was good to talk and laugh with them although I had trouble again with my computer overheating and shutting off. It happened 4 times during our talk. Michał told me he had the same problem until he bought a ventilator fan that sits under his computer. That would be good if the stores were open. Until then, I tried something a little different. I raised my laptop up enough to slide a tray of ice cubes underneath it. I thought the cool air from the melting cubes would keep the machine cool. It's been on for two hours now and checking its temperature, it seems to be working. I already had it raised up before but the ice cube idea was new. The ice cubes are barely melted. When the stores do finally open, I will get the ventilator.

Also, while Joan was resting, I opened my program of Chopin's Nocturnes played by Mario Pollini and was listening to them when Joan awoke. Now while I am writing this, we are both listening in separate rooms.

I was thinking about my generation of first cousins. Now there are 7 of us left; 1-80 year old, 2-77, 1-76, 1-75, 1-70, and 1-68. 5 passed away. The world and relationships have certainly changed since we were kids. Most of us spent Christmas together in a small little flat, crowded. When we got older and 1 or 2 married and had kids, it was even more crowded. However, those are times I do not forget.

Teraz, kiedy to piszę, oboje słuchamy w oddzielnych pokojach.

Myślałem o moim pokoleniu pierwszych kuzynów. Teraz zostało nas 7; 1-80 lat, 2-77, 1-76, 1-75, 1-70 i 1-68. 5 zmarło.

Your comments about cousins and Xmas brought back so many memories. Of 8 first cousins only three are left - me 82, Nick - 79 and Paul 73 (and all with 50% Polish blood.) My entire bridal party - my three female first cousins are all are gone in the last 4 years - and I am the oldest! As a child Christmas Eve was always shared with my Polish grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and Christmas Day with my father's parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. As long as my parents were alive we spent Eve with them and assorted family members. My kids still talk about how they never caught sight of Santa, bur they heard the sleigh bells and could not get outside before he disappeared. At some point it became both of our families at my parents, our family of 5, my in-laws, brother-in-laws family, too. Now we have all moved on to homes all over the country. so it's a small group. How I miss it. Shaz

Shaz, Yes, that's what happened. Everybody moved away. Nobody left to visit the graves of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all in the same cemetery. The last time I was there, 4 years ago, the tombstones of my grandparents had sunk and were being covered by weeds. I talked to the manager and told him I would pay to have them raised back up. He said they would do it free of charge. I don't know if he did or not.

Try vacuuming the fan vents as dust gets into it. Also get a air blaster canister.
