What Luck!

I belong to several list's on the Internet, one of them for ExPats living in Poland. Yesterday I made contact with an American living in Poland who has gone through the process of applying for temporary residency in Poland and he's been very helpful. This is what he told me...
"Congratulations on your decision to come to Poland. It's a fabulous country and Krakow is magical. If you only speak English, you won't have a problem. Anyone under 30 wants to learn and will practice their skills willingly. When you arrive you should start your process immediately, as it takes about two months. You should go to the local passport office. There you can pick up instructions and an application. If requested, the instructions are in English. You will need your passport, certified birth certificates, provable source of income and medical insurance. If the documents you submit are not in Polish, they must be translated by a licensed "tlumaczenia." They're everywhere. I went to the US Consulate and had them certify that I was not delinquent on taxes or convicted of any crime. The Polish authorities didn't seem to be impressed though, so I'm not sure it's necessary. The application must be completed in Polish. While you are waiting, a background check will take place. You must have a residence at which you receive certified mail. If you're not around to sign, they will cancel your application. The Polish "FBI" and immigration will conduct there own investigations. Also, as part of their investigation, the local police may come to your home to speak with you. The people at the "Biuro Paszport" are quite helpful. Unfortunately you cannot begin the process until you arrive."

We knew the basic idea of applying by reading the informatioin on the Polish Embassy's website but not the details and this is very helpful.

Ktoś pod 30 brakami by nauczyć się i zastosuje w praktyce ich umiejętności chętnie. Kiedy przybywasz powinieneś zacząć twój proces natychmiast, jak to bierze około dwu miesięcy. Powinieneś pójść do miejscowego biura paszportowego. Tam możesz podnieść instrukcje i aplikację. Jeżeli poproszony, instrukcje są po angielsku. Będziesz potrzebować twojego paszportu, poświadczyłeś metryki urodzenia, do udowodnienia źródło dochodu i ubezpieczenie medyczne. Polskie władze nie wydały się być zachwycone chociaż, więc nie jestem pewny to jest konieczne. Aplikacja musi być uzupełniona po polsku. Podczas gdy czekasz, drugoplanowa kontrola będzie mieć miejsce. Musisz mieć miejsce zamieszkania, przy którym otrzymujesz pocztę poleconą. Jeżeli nie masz dookoła podpisać się, oni odwołają twoją aplikację. Polski "FBI" i imigracja będzie prowadzić tam własne badania.
