Birthday Girl!

Another birthday to celebrate today, a little closer to home, in Smochowice. This time it is cousin Marcelina Kielar's day, a great granddaughter of J贸zef and Ludwika Kazmierczak. It's Sunday but she still works on this day until 3PM so we drove to her flower shop. Inside, we said hello and told her we wanted to buy two big red roses and asked her if she would wrap them up for us. When she was all done, to her amazement we presented them to her and wished her Happy Birthday. It made her very happy with the surprise and made Joan and I both feel good for giving them to her. Her shop had customers so we had no time to talk, just kissed her on the cheek and said goodbye.

Joan wanted to buy 偶ytnia(rye flour) to use in baking her next bread so we went to Carrefour to buy it. They didn't have it so we went to Piotr & Pawe艂 and they didn't have it. Next we went to Kauflands, then Real and last Chata Polska but no one had it. I know they have it somewhere in Pozna艅 because I have seen it before and our friend buys it but where it was today I have no idea.

Yesterday on the winter olympics we watched Justyna Kowalczyk become the first Polish female to win a gold medal in cross country skiing. Needless to say, everyone feels very good today because of it.

Tomorrow we are meeting with the couple who will accompany us to Berlin next weekend and make a plan for the places we would all like to visit.

Innym urodziny 艣wi臋towa膰 dzi艣 bli偶ej do domu, Smochowice. Tym razem jest to kuzyn dni Marcelina Kielar's, prawnuczki J贸zefa i Ludwika Ka藕mierczak. It's Sunday ale wci膮偶 pracuje w tym dniu do 3PM wi臋c pojechali艣my do jej kwiaciarni. W 艣rodku, powiedzieli艣my powitanie i powiedzia艂 jej, chcieli艣my kupi膰 dwa du偶e czerwone r贸偶e i zapyta艂 j膮, czy ona owin膮膰 je za nas. Kiedy wszystko by艂o zrobione, jej zdumienie, przedstawi艂 im do niej i chcia艂 j膮 Happy Birthday.

Joan chcia艂 kupi膰 呕ytnia (m膮ka 偶ytnia) do wykorzystania w nast臋pnym jej pieczenia chleba, wi臋c poszed艂 do Carrefour go kupi膰. Nie ma go, wi臋c poszed艂 do Piotra i Paw艂a i nie ma. Nast臋pnie udali艣my si臋 do Kauflands, to Real i ostatnio Chata Polska, ale nikt nie mia艂. Wiem, 偶e maj膮 go gdzie艣 w Poznaniu bo widzia艂em go przed i nasz przyjaciel kupuje, ale gdzie to by艂o dzi艣 nie mam poj臋cia.

Jutro mamy spotkanie z para, kt贸ra b臋dzie towarzyszy膰 nam do Berlina, w nast臋pny weekend i zrobi膰 plan miejsc wszyscy by艣my chcesz odwiedzi膰.

Birthday Boy!

Today we drove to Koni艅, to celebrate the birthday of cousin Krzysztof Kupi艅ski. Krzysztof is my twin in the search for genealogy of our families and I couldn't think of a better present to give him than a copy of all the familiy photographs I have collected since 2001. The only problem was my Vista DVD burner did not work so I did a quick search on the internet and found a download of a program to burn DVD's called Nero. It took about an hour to download it and install it on my machine and then I was ready to burn. I search my drives for the pictures, loaded them in individual folders for each family I have received pictures from and those that I have in my possession. When they were all loaded I was somewhat shocked to see the total number of pictures I have..............12,305. They cover many different branches of our "tree". I also burned a DVD with my latest files of Family Tree Maker that we both use to keep track of our genealogical progress.
We arrived at 2PM and met with him and his wife and son. They served cakes and coffee and we sat around the table and talked about many different subjects. His son, Marci艅, has made a lot of progress in his spoken English language and acted as a good translator for Joan and for me to things and words I did not understand.

Finally, about 4:30PM, we said our goodbyes and started our hour and a half trip home. It was a good day for a drive, no rain, sunny and blue skies on the way home. It was easy to know when we were approaching a village on the way home from the smell of coal burning in the stoves of the houses.

Dzisiaj pojechali艣my do Konina, aby 艣wi臋towa膰 urodziny kuzyna Krzysztof Kupi艅ski. Krzysztof jest moim twin w poszukiwaniu genealogiczne naszej rodziny i nie mog艂em wymy艣li膰 lepszego przedstawienia mu ni偶 kopi臋 wszystkich zdj臋膰 rodzina Mam zebrane od 2001 roku. Jedynym problemem by艂a moja Vista nagrywarka DVD nie dzia艂a tak zrobi艂em szybkie wyszukiwanie w Internecie i znale藕膰 do pobrania programu do nagrywania DVD o nazwie Nero. To trwa艂o oko艂o godziny, aby go pobra膰 i zainstalowa膰 go na moim komputerze, a nast臋pnie by艂em gotowy do nagrania. Kiedy wszystkie by艂y za艂adowane by艂em nieco zszokowany, aby sprawdzi膰 艂膮czn膮 liczb臋 zdj臋膰 mam .............. 12.305. Dotycz膮 one r贸偶nych dziedzin naszego "drzewa". Ja r贸wnie偶 spali艂 DVD z moich najnowszych plik贸w Family Tree Maker, 偶e u偶ywaj膮 do 艣ledzenia naszych post臋p贸w genealogicznych.

Przyjechali艣my at 2pm i spotka艂 si臋 z nim i jego 偶on膮 i synem. S艂u偶y艂y one ciasta i kaw臋 i usiedli艣my przy stole i rozmawiali艣my o wielu r贸偶nych przedmiot贸w.

Wreszcie o 4:30 PM, powiedzieli艣my nasze po偶egnania i rozpocz臋li艣my godzin臋 i powr贸t do domu po艂ow臋. To by艂 dobry dzie艅 dla dysku, bez deszczu, deszczu i b艂臋kitnym niebem w drodze do domu. 艁atwo by艂o wiadomo, kiedy zbli偶ali艣my miejscowo艣ci na drodze z zapach palonego w臋gla w piece dom贸w

Friday shopping, bread & dome.

98 zl was the cost of this weeks shopping. We had some food left from last week so the cost was not that high although Joan did buy extra flour (wheat, graham and another) for baking bread tonight after we returned from our usual meeting with Zbyszek. She will make it using the zakwas(starter) that she received last week and then it will sit for 10-12 hours for it to rise. We placed the pans on two stools near the heating register.

We talked about church and he told us the Carmelite church he attends each Sunday has an excellent choir and organist and someday we should go to this church for mass. We have been there before, last year but not during mass. It was also the church where they played the Mozart Requiem last year and is well known for this. Much to my surprise he said that many of the churches (small churches) in Pozna艅, not like the churches in outlying towns and villages that we have experienced.

Last week Joan and I saw workers in Plac Wolnos膰i erecting the framework of a dome. We didn't know what it was for but today we do.

Poznan’s Plac Wolno艣ci has become home to a time machine. The special dome accommodates an exhibition that will take all those interested back to the times of ancient Slavs. It will be a history lesson in practice, claim its organizers. In the dome it will be possible to learn about the early medieval life of the Slavs, and the origins of the Polish state. The exhibition will enable visitors to see everyday items close-up, and learn what customs were cultivated by our ancient ancestors, what their work looked like, and how they spent their free time and much more. Visitors will be also able to see outfits and jewelery worn by the ancient Slavs. We'll go back when it is completed and take a look through it.

98 z艂 by艂 koszt tego zakupy tygodni. Mieli艣my troch臋 jedzenia lewo od ostatniego tygodnia, wi臋c koszt nie jest wysoki, 偶e chocia偶 Joan by艂o kupi膰 dodatkowe m膮ki (pszenna, graham i inne) do pieczenia chleba wieczorem po powrocie z naszego zwyk艂ego spotkania z Zbyszek.

W ubieg艂ym tygodniu Joan i widzia艂em pracownik贸w Plac Wolno艣ci monta偶 ramach kopu艂膮. Nie wiem, co to by艂 za, ale dzi艣 nie.

W Poznaniu Plac Wolno艣ci sta艂a si臋 domem dla Time Machine. Specjalne kopu艂膮 mie艣ci wystaw臋, kt贸ra odb臋dzie wszystkich os贸b zainteresowanych powrotem do czas贸w staro偶ytnych S艂owian. To b臋dzie lekcja historii w praktyce, twierdz膮 organizatorzy. W kopule b臋dzie mo偶na dowiedzie膰 si臋 o pocz膮tku 偶ycia 艣redniowiecznych S艂owian i pocz膮tki pa艅stwa polskiego. Wystawa pozwoli odwiedzaj膮cym zobaczy膰 przedmioty codziennego bliska i dowiedzie膰 si臋, co celnej by艂y uprawiane przez naszych
Zwiedzaj膮cy b臋d膮 r贸wnie偶 mogli zobaczy膰 stroje i bi偶uteri臋, noszone przez staro偶ytnych S艂owian. Idziemy z powrotem, kiedy zostanie zako艅czona i sp贸jrz przez niego.

Plea!

When I begun my quest to find out about my family history and received my first letter from Poland in 2001 I could not read it. I took it to the Polish Museum of Anerica in Chicago and found there someone who translated it. It was the beginning of my transformation and eventual move to Poland. Now this old museum is in financial trouble and so I am a happy to post this email on my blog. They are in dire need of help. If you can help them, please do it now.

Dear Friends,

We cannot mask a very serious issue before the Polish Museum of America.

The Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, which founded by the Polish Museum of America (PMA) in 1935 and which still houses the PMA within its building, has suspended its yearly $100,000 subsidy to the PMA. The PRCUA also suspended last year’s subsidy by 25%, leaving the PMA to operate through mid-March.

We are very grateful for the consistent financial and moral support of our PMA members. They are our first and best source of funding. We have nearly 900 members from 37 states, Australia, and Poland; but being the oldest and largest Polish American museum in the nation should produce 5-6 times that many members.

We thank Wspolnota Polska - the Association of the Polish Community Abroad – for their monetary support last year, and we hope, in 2010. Their support has freed up monies for other areas of the Museum. The Ministry of Culture also provides the PMA with visiting archivists and specialists from Poland who come to work with our PMA Staff in an atmosphere of mutual learning.

Our staff members are committed professionals, and your support allows them to attend seminars and classes to hone their skills. They work at lesser salaries than their skills warrant because they love and respect the Museum and Library. There is rarely a time when a caller or visitor’s question cannot be answered by appropriate Museum personnel.

The Museum’s value lies not only in the historical treasures that are preserved here, but also in the many generous and talented people who work hard to make this great institution possible.

Become a member of The Polish Museum of America. As a not-for-profit organization, the PMA depends upon individual donations, and proceeds from the annual Summer Ball. However, these efforts are not sufficient to meet the rising cost of maintaining the Museum, therefore we must rely upon the generosity of supporting members to continue its programs. Without membership, the Museum would not be able to keep up with escalating costs. We invite you to respond to the financial challenges and needs of the Museum by becoming a supporting member. The PMA is indispensible in preserving the Polish past for the future. We hope that you will join us.

Please make checks payable to: Polish Museum of America and mail to: PMA Membership, The Polish Museum of America, 984 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago Illinois 60642-4101. Donations to the PMA are tax deductable. We sincerely thank you for your generosity. You can pay for your membership online – visit http://www.polishmuseumofamerica.org/v4/EnglishVersion/PMAMembership.htmfor the instructions . You can join us at the Facebook, Museum is

Visit

R贸zia
Joan, me, Luka and R贸zia

Tonight we visited with cousin Luka, her husband, Marek and daughter, R贸zia. We had some clothing that Joan's daughter had sent to R贸zia from Karen's daughter, Nikki. Jeans, tops, pants and shoes were the gifts but Nikki is taller than R贸zia and two years older so it may be awhile before she can wear them. R贸zia treated us to a little piano concert and then drew a nice flower picture for us to take home. It's alway a treat to see R贸zia and her family, she's been a little darling ever since we first met her at age 1 3/4, now she's 8 years old.

Earlier this morning we sampled the bread given to us last night. It is very good, heavy with three types of seeds in it. I'm sure it won't last more than two days because we had it again tonight with a cauliflower soup, the recipe of which was given to us by cousin Kazia.
Slideshow on the right.

Tonight, kt贸re odwiedzili艣my z kuzynem Luka, jej m膮偶, Marek i c贸rka, R贸zi. Mieli艣my troch臋 ubra艅, kt贸re c贸rka Joanny wys艂a艂 do R贸zi z c贸rk膮 Karen, Nikki. Spodnie, bluzki, spodnie i buty by艂y prezenty, ale Nikki jest wy偶szy ni偶 R贸zi i dwa lata starsza wi臋c mo偶e by膰 przez chwil臋 zanim mo偶na je nosi膰. R贸zia uraczy艂 nas troch臋 koncert fortepianowy a nast臋pnie zwr贸ci艂 艂adne zdj臋cie kwiat do nas do domu. Jest to sprecyzowane w leczeniu, aby zobaczy膰 R贸zi i jej rodziny, she's been a little darling odk膮d pierwszy spotka艂 si臋 z ni膮 w wieku 1 3 / 4, teraz ona 8 roku 偶ycia.

Wcze艣niej tego ranka pr贸b膮 chleba da艂 nam wczoraj. Jestem pewien, 偶e to nie potrwa d艂u偶ej ni偶 dwa dni, bo mieli艣my go ponownie dzi艣 zupa z kalafiora, przepis, kt贸ry zosta艂 nam dany przez kuzyna Kazia.

Berlin trip.

Well, we have decided to go to Berlin on Friday, March 13th, in the morning and return on Sunday night. Probably we will take a train there and back but it is not decided for sure. It is difficult to get into the main part of the city by car so most likely we will take a train there, check into a hotel and then use public transportation to sight see. We will be going with another couple so it should be an interesting trip. If any reader has recommendations on where to stay or what to see, they would be most welcomed.

Tonight a friend called to say she had just made some bread using "zakwas" as the starter for the bread and she made an extra loaf for Joan and I. She asked us to come over and pick it up. When we got there she had also placed some zakwas in a jar for Joan, then sat down and told Joan how to use it and how she makes her bread with all the ingredients written down. That was so sweet of her. This bread has flax, pumpkin and sunflower seeds in it and does not look like anyother bread we have had before. Tomorrow morning we will cut into it for breakfast.

C贸偶, zdecydowali艣my si臋 jecha膰 do Berlina w pi膮tek, 13 marca, rano i powr贸t w niedziel臋 wieczorem. Trudno jest dosta膰 si臋 do g艂贸wnej cz臋艣ci miasta samochodem wi臋c najprawdopodobniej b臋dziemy podejmowa膰 poci膮giem tam zameldowa膰 si臋 w hotelu, a nast臋pnie korzysta膰 z komunikacji miejskiej na oczach zobaczy膰. B臋dziemy si臋 dzieje z innym para tak powinno by膰 ciekaw膮 wycieczk臋. Je艣li czytelnik ma 偶adnych zalece艅, gdzie si臋 zatrzyma膰 i co zobaczy膰, b臋d膮 one najbardziej mile widziane.

Dzis wieczorem przyjaciel nazywa si臋 powiedzie膰, 偶e w艂a艣nie si臋 chleb za pomoc膮 "zakwas" jako starter do chleba i zrobi艂a dodatkowy bochenek do Joan I. Poprosi艂a nas przyj艣膰 i go podnie艣膰. To by艂o takie s艂odkie jej. Jutro rano b臋dziemy poci臋te go na 艣niadanie.

Church, King Cross and visit.

Marcelina, Joan, Pola and I
Marcelina, Joan, Pola and W艂adek
Marcelina, Pola and W艂adek and Top, their dog.

Today's mass had a guest priest who did the sermon. Normally we start at 9AM and finish by 10AM but this particular priest was very long winded and the mass didn't end until 10:30AM. Fortunately the temporary church is somewhat heated so we weren't cold until toward the end. We still have some trouble following the mass and can't do the replies in Polish but they do have a screen showing the words to hymns so we can at least try to sing with them. This little church is usually full, with people standing in the back, but I think when they finally open the new church it will take some years before there are enough people to fill it up.

After church we went to King Cross to buy a few things and were hungry so we had breakfast/lunch at the ChinaTown restaurant, a little restaurant in the shopping mall. I had Kung bow chicken with rice and cabbage, 14zl, and Joan had chicken with vegetables in curry sauce, 16zl. We then went to real to buy windshield washer fluid, roladas and a bottle of water.

From there we drove to Smochowice to cousin Marcelina's flower shop to see how she and her family were doing. We arrived at 2PM, talked for about a half hour and she asked if we had some free time now and we said yes. She closes her shop on Sunday at 3PM and so invited us to wait until then and to come home with her to visit.

We waited and went to her house where her husband, W艂adys艂aw and daughter, Pola were. Pola was just finishing making a surprise lunch which we were invited to take part in but we were so full we didn't eat much. Marcelina was in great spirits and it's always great to visit with her. We stayed about an hour and a half then decided it was time to go home. Marcelina and her family were going to cousin Luka's to celebrate her nameday which is tomorrow. We didn't know anything about it and already has plans for tonight so we said goodbye and went home.

Cousin Jan Szuma艅ski posted a nice video of his wife's hairstyles over the last 30 years. It's on the right of this blog.

Masa Dzisiaj mia艂 ksi膮dz go艣ci, kt贸rzy nie kazanie. Ten ma艂y ko艣ci贸艂 jest zazwyczaj pe艂ne, z ludzi stoj膮cych z ty艂u, ale my艣l臋, kiedy wreszcie otworzy膰 nowy ko艣ci贸艂 zajmie kilka lat istnieje wystarczaj膮co du偶o, aby wype艂ni膰 go.

Po ko艣ciele pojechali艣my do King Cross kupi膰 kilka rzeczy, i by艂 g艂odny, wi臋c zjedli艣my 艣niadanie / obiad w restauracji Chinatown, ma艂ej restauracji w centrum handlowym. Mia艂em Kung kurczak z ry偶em 艂uk i kapust膮, 14z艂, i Joan mia艂a kurczaka z warzywami w sosie curry, 16zl. Nast臋pnie poszed艂 kupi膰 prawdziwe p艂ynu spryskiwacza szyby, roladas i butelk臋 wody.

Stamt膮d pojechali艣my do kwiaciarni kuzyn Smochowice Marcelina, aby zobaczy膰, jak ona i jej rodzina robi艂y. Doszli艣my do 2pm, rozmawiali艣my o p贸艂 godziny i spyta艂a, gdyby艣my mieli troch臋 wolnego czasu i powiedzieli艣my, 偶e tak. Ona zamyka sw贸j sklep w niedziel臋 at 3pm wi臋c zaprosi艂 nas do poczeka膰 do tego czasu i wr贸ci膰 do domu z jej wizyty.

Czekali艣my i poszed艂 do domu, gdzie jej m膮偶, W艂adys艂aw i c贸rka, by艂y pola. Marcelina zosta艂a w wielkich duch贸w i to zawsze wielkie odwiedzi膰 z ni膮. Zatrzymali艣my oko艂o p贸艂torej godziny a nast臋pnie zdecydowa艂, 偶e czas wraca膰 do domu. Marcelina i jej rodziny wybiera si臋 do kuzyna luk臋, aby 艣wi臋towa膰 swoje imieniny, kt贸ry jest jutro.

Cousin Jan SZUMA艃SKI wys艂ana mile video 偶ony fryzury w ci膮gu ostatnich 30 lat. To po prawej stronie tego bloga.

5D and sorrow.

We went to Greenpoint today to experience a 5D movie. Well, not actually a movie because it only lasted 11 minutes. It was called Cats and Ghosts. It was the story of a cat chasing a mouse through a haunted house and you see it thorugh the cats eyes. The seats are moveable so when the cat jumps up a tree the seats go back and then forward as if you are jumping and landing on the tree. As he runs faster you can feel the wind blowing past your body and when the rain starts you feel it on your face although when you actually touch your face it is totally dry. In the story the cat comes upon a lot of mice who run past him and on your feet you can feel the mice run by. It was quite an experience and even though the cost was high for only 11 minutes of film, 20zl($7USD) it was worth the experience.

How does it work? Stereoscopic image is displayed on the screen polarization. The viewer, using special glasses, is experiencing a realistic impression. Added to this are special effects.

- Sitting in an armchair you will feel a moving effect of tickling feet and you will feel the gusts of wind on your face, or droplets of water falling from the rain storm.
Additional results are intended to ensure the speakers mounted in the headrests of the seats. In addition, when the film appears on the scene with strong wind, a special machine will generate gusts that pass through the entire cinema hall. It also has a generator for laser effects in the form of lightning, and thunder.

The theatre itself is very small, 4 rows of 7 seats in each row. There are only 4 theatres like this in Poland. I would like to see Avatar produced in this 5D effect and someday they may actually start making longer movies.

But it was a strange afternoon because when the movie was over I was going to take Joan for coffee at Kandulski's downtown but it closses at 3PM on Saturday so instead we walked to the rynek to have hot chocolate at the Cacao Republik. As we approached the rynek there were two ambulances and a police car and lieing on the sidewalk in front of the Sioux restaurant was an elderly man with an air bag in his mouth and a paramedic pumping his chest. Apparently he had a heart attack while walkiing with his daughter and granddaughter. The paramedic tried in vain to revive him but he could not and the man died. It was almost surrealistic. We walked away from there to the Republik, went inside and climbed the stairs to the second floor that has sofas and nice chairs to sit in.

Joan ordered hot chocolate with a shot of rum in it and I had mine with a little chili powder. This is real hot chocolate, not like the kind you buy in a package or at a restaurant. It was thick like a sauce or melting a bar of chocolate and then drinking it. Both were very delicious and the atmosphere of the upstairs is very conducive to conversation. It is a small place with four sofas and two small tables that overlook the street. We took one of the sofas and talked about what we had experienced today, both in the cinema and then the reality of death. we couldn't get the picture of the poor man lieing on the sidewalk and his daughter and granddaughter witnessing the whole thing. We felt very sorrowfull for them both. Life is so fragile and in a moment it can be gone.

Poszli艣my do Greenpoint dzi艣 do艣wiadczenie 5D filmu. Nazwano to koty i duchy. To opowie艣膰 o kot goni mysz przez nawiedzonego domu i widzisz thorugh kot贸w oczy. Jak on dzia艂a szybciej mo偶na poczu膰 wiatr wiej膮cy przesz艂o艣ci cia艂a i kiedy deszcz zaczyna czu膰 go na twarzy ale kiedy nie dotykaj膮 twarz jest ca艂kowicie sucha. To by艂o do艣膰 do艣wiadczenia, a nawet je艣li by艂 wysoki koszt tylko 11 minut filmu, 20zl ($ 7USD) warto by艂o do艣wiadczenie.

Dodatkowe wyniki maj膮 na celu zapewnienie g艂o艣niki zamontowane w zag艂贸wkach foteli. Ponadto, gdy film pojawi si臋 na scenie z silnym wiatrem, specjalnej maszyny wygeneruje porywy, kt贸re przechodz膮 przez ca艂膮 sal臋 kinow膮. Posiada r贸wnie偶 generator efekt贸w laserowych w postaci b艂yskawic i grzmot贸w.

Chcia艂bym zobaczy膰 Avatar produkowane w tym 5D efekt, a kiedy艣 mo偶e faktycznie zacznij zarabia膰 ju偶 film贸w.

Ale to by艂o dziwne, poniewa偶 po po艂udniu, kiedy film by艂 ponad Chcia艂em wzi膮膰 Joan na kaw臋 w centrum Kandulski, ale to closses at 3pm w sobot臋, wi臋c zamiast szli艣my do Rynku si臋 gor膮cej czekolady w Cacao Republika. Gdy zbli偶ali艣my rynek by艂y dwie karetki pogotowia i samochod贸w policyjnych i le偶膮cego na chodniku naprzeciwko restauracji Sioux by艂 starszy m臋偶czyzna z poduszk膮 powietrzn膮 w ustach i sanitariusz pompowania piersi. Podobno mia艂 atak serca, walkiing z c贸rk膮 i wnuczk膮. Sanitariusz na pr贸偶no o偶ywi膰 go, ale on nie mo偶e i cz艂owiek umiera. To by艂o niemal surrealistyczne. Wyszli艣my stamt膮d do Republik, wszed艂 do 艣rodka i wspi膮艂 si臋 po schodach na drugie pi臋tro, kt贸re sofy i fotele mi艂o siedzie膰 w.

Joan zam贸wi膰 gor膮c膮 czekolad臋 z rumem uj臋cie w nim i mia艂em kopalni z odrobin膮 chili w proszku. By艂a g臋sta jak sos lub melting tabliczk臋 czekolady, a nast臋pnie jej picia. Wzi臋li艣my jeden z sofy i rozmawiali艣my o tym, co mieli艣my do艣wiadczonych dzi艣, zar贸wno w kinie, a potem rzeczywisto艣膰 艣mierci. nie mogli艣my uzyska膰 obraz biednego cz艂owieka le偶膮cego na chodniku i c贸rki i wnuczki 艣wiadkami wszystkiego. Czuli艣my si臋 bardzo sorrowfull dla nich obu.

Carrefour vs. Real

Big Church
Morning Sunrise

We had our weekly meeting with Zbyszek and then went to Pestka, to Piotr I Pawel, to buy some cloth shopping bags because we are tired of using the plastic ones that fall apart so easily after a few uses. We bought 3 bags for 29zl($9). They should last a long time.

We went back, once again, to Carrefour to see if we would like this store better than Real for our weekly shopping but have decided to remain Real customers. It is the same distance in time to get to both and we prefer Real although Carrefour has better bread. However, I have discovered a local bakery in Suchy Las, just north of us, that has a bakery that produces bread the old way, without yeast. We didn't like Carrefour because when you want to buy any produce you have to wait in line for a clerk to put a price tag on it, they do not sell rolada's and they do not sell large containers of milk. In Real, there are 6 self-serving scales to weigh your own produce with a price tag provided by the machine, they usually have rolada's and they have large containers of milk.

We are contemplating taking a weekend trip to Berlin before April and have just started to make a list of places to see. Probably we will leave on a Friday morning and return Sunday night. Joan was there many years ago when the wall was still up and I have never been there. We have an acquaintance who has been there many times so we will consult him first about where to stay and what to see in the short period of our trip.

Today I walked to the church office to see about joining the parish but found the office is only open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5PM to 6:30PM so I will have to wait until next Tuesday. We've talked about it since we moved here but are just now getting around to doing it. Surprisingly enough, although the office was closed the church was open. It is only a temporary church however. The big one behind it is still being built. It is much larger than the temporary one and with all the building that is going on around here I am sure that someday it will be filled with people. There is also a new school being built that may open this next school year if they keep working on it steadily.

Mieli艣my nasze cotygodniowe spotkanie z Zbyszek, a nast臋pnie uda艂 si臋 do Pestka, aby Piotr i Pawe艂, aby kupi膰 kilka toreb z zakupami tkaniny, poniewa偶 jeste艣my zm臋czeni korzystania z nich plastiku, kt贸ry rozpadnie si臋 tak 艂atwo po kilku zastosowa艅. Kupili艣my 3 torby 29z艂 (9 dolar贸w).

Jednak odkry艂em lokalnej piekarni w Suchym Lesie, na p贸艂noc nam, 偶e ma piekarni, kt贸ra produkuje chleb stary spos贸b, bez dro偶d偶y. We did not like Carrefour bo gdy chcesz kupi膰 wszelkie plony trzeba czeka膰 w kolejce do urz臋dnika, aby umie艣ci膰 na nim znak ceny, nie sprzedaj膮 rolada i nie sprzedaj膮 du偶e kontenery z mlekiem.

Prawdopodobnie b臋dziemy urlopach Pi膮tek rano i powr贸t w niedziel臋 wieczorem. Joan by艂o wiele lat temu, kiedy by艂 jeszcze mur i nigdy nie by艂em tam. Mamy znajomego, kt贸ry by艂 tam wiele razy, wi臋c b臋dziemy konsultowa膰 go pierwszy temat, gdzie si臋 zatrzyma膰 i co zobaczy膰 w kr贸tkim czasie naszej podr贸偶y.

Dzisiaj poszed艂em do urz臋du Ko艣cio艂a, aby zobaczy膰 temat przyst膮pienia do parafii, ale znale藕膰 biuro jest otwarte tylko we wtorki, 艣rody i czwartki od 5pm do 6:30 PM tak b臋d臋 musia艂 czeka膰 a偶 do nast臋pnego wtorku. M贸wili艣my o nim, poniewa偶 przenie艣li艣my tutaj, ale ju偶 teraz coraz okolice celu to robi膮. Dziwna, cho膰 urz膮d ten zosta艂 zlikwidowany ko艣ci贸艂 by艂 otwarty.

House for sale.

Soda Bread

Something that always amazes me is the selling of houses that are totally unfinished. Here is one that is across the street from where we live. It is a two story house and, as you can see, has no windows, doors or stairs. It was started last year and now it is up for sale, just the way it is, for 580,000zl (about $225,000 USD). Can you imagine buying a house for that price, unfinished, and then having to spend another $150,000 to complete it? I can't but it is a common occurence here. So you have some idea at how expensive housing is now in Poland. The average person cannot afford to buy a home or a flat that is worth living in and it is a problem.

Joan made a new type of bread today, soda bread. It has flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and buttermilk. The size is rather small for a bread and it will be interesting to taste it tonight with dinner.

A few blogs ago I mentioned about Graham bread that we really like. Joan found this out about the bread. A 19th century American miller after whom this bread was named is scarcely remembered in his native land except for the familiar Graham crackers. In Poland, by contrast, his name lives on both in this whole wheat loaf and popular whole wheat rolls (Grahamki). Incidentally, in Polish his name is pronounced Gra-hamm, not Grey-um.

Co艣, co zawsze dziwi mnie to sprzeda偶 dom贸w, kt贸re s膮 ca艂kowicie niedoko艅czony.

Joan si臋 nowy rodzaj chleba dzi艣, chleb sodowy. Ma m膮ki, sody, proszku do pieczenia, s贸l i ma艣lanka.

Kilka blog贸w temu wspomina艂em o chleb Graham, 偶e chcemy.

Breads

Joan's Apple bread.
Warminski bread.

About two weeks ago we discovered a new bakery for us in the neighborhood that makes exceptional bread so we have become a steady customer there. They make several different kinds and our favorites are Warminski, Weijska and Graham bread. I don't know if there is such a thing as eating too much bread but it's hard to stop eating these breads. It's almost better than having a dessert after dinner. The loaf you see above is only half the size of the original since buying it yesterday. I prefer to cut it in the middle and start from there while Joan tells me to start at the end so it will stay fresh longer but the loaves never last long enough to get stale.

We still had a loaf of freshly baked apple bread that Joan made yesterday so it's a toss up as to which one will be gone first. The apple bread is really good with ice cream :-) I should weigh 250 pounds if I keep this up but I haven't gained any weight since the "bread" diet started.

Jakie艣 dwa tygodnie temu odkryli艣my nowy piekarni dla nas w dzielnicy, kt贸ra sprawia, 偶e wyj膮tkowy chleb, wi臋c sta艂y klient jest kr贸lem. Stanowi膮 one r贸偶ne rodzaje i naszych ulubionych s膮 Warmi艅skim, Weijska i chleb Graham. To prawie lepsze ni偶 deser po obiedzie.

Mamy jeszcze 艣wie偶o upieczony bochenek chleba, jab艂ek, 偶e Joan si臋 wczoraj, wi臋c jest to rzuca si臋 co do kt贸rych jedna b臋dzie poszed艂 pierwszy.

Tours

Monday and Tuesday passed without much interest in new things or places. One thing I did find interesting was a website that has virtual tours of different cities in Poland. It's at...........http://www.vtour.pl You can click on a city and it will load tours of areas from that city plus museums and parks. Kind of a neat way to check a city out before you go there.

Poniedzia艂ek i wtorek przesz艂y bez wi臋kszego zainteresowania w nowych rzeczy lub miejsca. One thing I did interesuj膮ce by艂o witryny z wirtualne wycieczki do r贸偶nych miast w Polska. Rodzaj schludny spos贸b sprawdzi膰, miasto, zanim p贸jdziesz tam.

Valentines Day!

I spent the day with my Valentine.

Valentine and Ethno Museum.

Up at 8AM this morning to a gray day but determined to see something new today. First I went to Carrefour to buy bread and flour for Joan to make the cinnamon rolls again. Next I stopped in Praktiker to buy an orchid for Joan for St. Valentines day but found an unusual plant, Guzmania bromeliad. I don't know it but thought it was a prettier object to give her. She was, of course, surprised by it and that was half of the joy of giving it to her. Valentines Day in Poland may not be quite as big of a deal as in the U.S. but it is close.

After breakfast at 11AM we decided it was a good day to go to the Ethnographic Museum on Grobla street because we had not seen that museum yet. The actual entrance to the building is on Mostowa street so we had to walk around the building to get to it.

Established in 1986, the Ethnographic Museum is housed in the former Masonic lodge building, an early 19th century late classicist edifice. At that time, the plot of land was purchased from the city by Free Masons who immediately proceeded with the construction. The architectural design was most likely authored by Christian Wernicke Lodge Master of the Piast.

The Museum houses artifacts of Greater folk culture. The permanent exhibition entitled Folk Art in Greater features 19th and 20th century sculptures, paintings, folk costumes, embroidery, decorative items (of ceramic, iron and wood), worship objects and musical instruments. The items are grouped into four categories displayed in Textiles and Costumes Folk, Folk Art, Technology and Non-European Cultures Sections.

As with all National Museums in Pozna艅, Saturday is a free day so it's a good time to go. We paid 12zl ($4) for a ticket that would allow me to take pictures but that is also a common occurence now in Poland. The most impressive was the clothing made and worn during certain periods. The pictures don't really do justice to the workmanship involved and the way the raw materials were turned into linen and cloth.

As usual there is a slideshow on the right side.

Najpierw pojecha艂em do Carrefour kupi膰 chleba i m膮ki Joan aby cynamonu rolkach ponownie. Dalej stan膮艂em w Praktikerze kupi膰 Orchidea dla Joan dla St Valentines day jednak znale藕膰 nietypowe ro艣lin, Guzmania Trylogia Nom贸w. Nie wiem, ale my艣la艂, 偶e to 艂adniejszy obiekt jej da膰. By艂a oczywi艣cie zaskoczony i 偶e by艂a p贸艂 rado艣ci daje jej to.

Po 艣niadaniu w 11AM zdecydowali艣my to by艂 dobry dzie艅, aby przej艣膰 do Muzeum Etnograficznym przy ulicy Grobla, poniewa偶 nie widzieli艣my, 偶e muzeum jeszcze. Rzeczywiste wej艣cie do budynku przy ulicy Mostowej wi臋c musieli艣my chodzi膰 po budynku dosta膰 si臋 do niego.

Projekt architektoniczny by艂 najprawdopodobniej autorstwa Christian Wernicke Lodge Mistrz Piast.

Muzeum dom贸w zabytk贸w kultury ludowej wi臋ksze. Sta艂a wystawa sztuki ludowej w Wielkopolsce funkcje 19-ci i 20-cie wieku rze藕by, obrazy, stroje ludowe, hafty, przedmioty dekoracyjne (ceramicznych, 偶elazo i drewno), przedmioty kultu i instrument贸w muzycznych. Pozycje s膮 pogrupowane na cztery kategorie wy艣wietlane w przemy艣le w艂贸kienniczym i stroj贸w ludowych, sztuki ludowej, technologii i kulturach pozaeuropejskich sekcjach.

Zap艂acili艣my 12z艂 (4 dolary) za bilet, kt贸ry pozwoli艂by mi robi膰 zdj臋cia, ale jest tak偶e cz臋stym zjawiskiem obecnie Polska. Najbardziej imponuj膮ce by艂o wykonane odzie偶 u偶ywana i u偶ywane w pewnych okresach. Zdj臋cia naprawd臋 nie odda膰 sprawiedliwo艣膰 zaanga偶owanych wykonania i spos贸b surowce zosta艂y w艂膮czone do bielizny i tkanin.

Shovel.

You can see what I did first thing this morning, a little shoveling of the driveway and then I shoveled out the drive of an elderly woman neighbor who had trouble getting out of her garage this morning. She should be surprised tonight when she gets home.:-)

Shopping day costed 113 zl for the week and then at 3PM we went to see our friend Z at Kandulski's. It was a lesson day for us about the difference between using the verbs pobobac si臋 and lubi膰, two Polish words that both mean "like" in English. We still have difficulty knowing when to use either one in the correct grammatical sentence and who better to ask than Zbyszek? We talked for about an hour on that subject and, maybe, have a better understanding of it now.

Days are longer now, darkness doesn't come until about 5:30PM and that's a whole lot better than 3:30PM like in December. Come on Spring.

Look at cousin Jan's pictures on the right side from his blog.

Mo偶esz zobaczy膰, co zrobi艂em, pierwsz膮 rzecz膮, dzi艣 rano, nieco shoveling na podjazd i potem szuflami na dysku starszych s膮siada kobieta, kt贸ra k艂opot z jej gara偶u dzi艣 rano. Ona powinna by膰 zaskoczony, dzi艣, kiedy dostaje do domu. :-)

Dni handlowe szacunkowym 113 z艂 za tydzie艅, a nast臋pnie at 3pm pojechali艣my zobaczy膰 nasze Z przyjacielem na Kandulski's. Dzie艅 by艂 dla nas lekcj膮 na temat r贸偶nicy mi臋dzy u偶ywaniem czasownik贸w pobobac si臋 i lubi膰, dw贸ch polskich s艂贸w, kt贸re oznacza zar贸wno "podobny" w j臋zyku angielskim. Wci膮偶 mamy trudno艣ci wiedz膮c, kiedy nale偶y stosowa膰 jedn膮 z poprawne zdanie gramatyczne i kto lepiej zapyta膰 ni偶 Zbyszek? Rozmawiali艣my na temat godzin na ten temat, a mo偶e jeszcze lepiej zrozumie膰 to teraz.

Snow.

Light snow all day today so tomorrow I guess I'll be shoveling out the area in front of our garage. A perfect day for a walk in the woods but I don't have good boots for such an occassion so instead just a walk around the neighborhood and then some time studying with this new course we have.

We received a package today from Joan's daughter with two movies in it, Anger Management and Somethings Got To Give. Both are Jack Nicholson movies and comedies so they are nice additions to our movie collection. She also sent some clothes for little cousin Rozia which we will try to deliver this weekend.

艢nieg 艢wiat艂a ca艂y dzie艅 dzi艣 to jutro I guess I'll be shoveling obecnie teren przed naszym gara偶u.

Otrzymali艣my dzisiaj pakiet od c贸rki Joanny z dw贸ch film贸w w nim Anger Management i Somethings Got To Give. Oba filmy s膮 Jack Nicholson i komedii, tak s膮 艂adne dodatki do naszej kolekcji film贸w.

Course and ZUS

We've been working with the new Polish program I bought last week and it's pretty good. They have a beginner and intermediate course, I bought the intermediate. I like it because it comes with a CD for the computer and it's the same material as in the book that comes with it. The advantage is you can hear the pronunciation of all the words and you can change the speed that it is spoken in. That's good for Joan who has a little more trouble than I understanding what is being said. The name of the course is Polski, Bez Problemu + and it is made by the SuperMemo company.

We made the trip to ZUS today to fill out the documents for health insurance. It doesn't take long to do it and the office is very efficient for Poland. We only waited 15 minutes to get in to see a clerk who took care of it. The price rose about 8% since our last payment, now it's 311.09zl per month. About $103 for coverage including hospital stays so that's extremely cheap compared to the U.S.

Byli艣my pracy w nowym programie polskiego kupi艂em w zesz艂ym tygodniu i to ca艂kiem nie藕le. I like it, poniewa偶 pochodzi z p艂yty CD na komputer i to samo, kt贸re jest w ksi膮偶ce, 偶e jest z nim.

Zrobili艣my wycieczk臋 do ZUS dzisiaj, aby wype艂ni膰 dokumenty do ubezpieczenia zdrowotnego. Mamy tylko czeka艂 15 minut, aby dosta膰 si臋, aby zobaczy膰 urz臋dnik, kt贸ry opiekowa艂 si臋 jej. Cena wzros艂a o 8%, poniewa偶 nasze ostatnio p艂atno艣ci, now it's 311.09zl miesi臋cznie.

ZUS

Another Apple quick bread is in the oven. Tomorrow we have to go to ZUS to file our health insurance payment forms for the next three months. We'll take bus #64 from the house to D膮browskiego street and then walk four blocks to the building. Inside it usually doesn't take long for our waiting number to be called and then we will find out how much we have to pay for the next three months. Actually, for last month, this month and the month after. The system is kind of strange because you pay one month behind time. In other words, tomorrow we will pay for January, in March we pay for February and in April we pay for March. Figure that out if you can :-)

It's still in the -6c temperatures outside but the weatherman has forecasted 11c for Saturday. It will be like a tropical heat wave.

I haven't had much contact with any relatives since Christmas. I guess the party's over.

Innym Apple szybkie chleba w piecu. Jutro mamy i艣膰 do ZUS do pliku naszych form ubezpiecze艅 zdrowotnych p艂atno艣ci na kolejne trzy miesi膮ce. B臋dziemy autobusem # 64 z domu na ulicy D膮browskiego, a nast臋pnie pieszo cztery bloki do budynku. Wewn膮trz zwykle nie d艂ugo do naszego numeru czeka si臋 nazywa膰 i wtedy dowiemy si臋, ile trzeba zap艂aci膰 za kolejne trzy miesi膮ce. Innymi s艂owy, jutro b臋dziemy p艂aci膰 za stycze艅, marzec p艂acimy w lutym iw kwietniu p艂acimy za marzec. Rysunek tego, czy mo偶na :-)

It's still in-6c temperaturach na zewn膮trz, lecz Weatherman ma prognozowane 11c do soboty. B臋dzie jak tropikalny upa艂.

Nie mia艂em du偶o kontaktu z krewnymi, poniewa偶 Bo偶e Narodzenie. My艣l臋, The Party's Over.

Guitar Festival!

Monday passed into history without much fanfare. Just a little walk to the post to mail our granddaughters birthday present and a trip to the apteka. In the evening we met with two acquaintances we've known for about a year now. They own a business that is interesting to me and are the largest distributors of guitars in Poland. He is formulating plans for a finger style guitar festival in Pozna艅 to acquaint the public with this type of guitar playing. It is a very little known type of playing in Poland and he is trying to expand it's exposure. We spent about an hour and a half talking about the festival and how it will be performed in the Blue Note club in Pozna艅 in April. There will be a competition of players followed by a workshop and then performances by 6 well known players from Poland. Because of my background in guitar study and playing he asked me to be one of the judges of the competition. I think it will be an eventful day and accepted the invitation.

Poniedzia艂ek przeszed艂 do historii bez wi臋kszych fanfar. Just a little walk to post mail urodziny wnuczki naszych obecnych i wyjazd do apteka. My艣l臋, 偶e b臋dzie to pami臋tnego dnia i przyj臋艂a zaproszenie.

Rolls, movie and Super Sunday.

Joan was in the baking mood today so she made these caramel/cinnamon rolls in the afternoon. We were going to go out for a little while but discovered there was a concert on TV of Czes艂aw Niemen, followed by one of our favorite movies, An American Rhapsody. It's a true story about a Hungarian family in the 50's who escape from Russian dominated Hungary to the U.S. but leave their youngest daughter with the grandmother in Hungary. The grandmother then gives the young girl to a couple in the countryside to live with and she spends her first 5 years with them while her parents in America are trying to get her out of Hungary. Of course, she becomes attached to the couple and thinks of them as her mother and father and has a hard time adjusting when she finally does get to America. The actress who plays of the part of the young girl as a teenager, Scarlett Johansen, was unknown to us but since we first saw the movie a few months ago we have seen 5 movies with her in them. The last was the Girl with the Pear Earring.

It's SuperBowl Sunday in America and one of the few days when we wish we were back there to go through the excitement of the day since we are football fans. We'll find out the results tomorrow on the Internet. Occassionally we put in the VHS tape we have of the Chicago Bears 1985 SuperBowl game and watch that. We did a lot of taping before we left the U.S. of games, mostly the Chicago Bulls Michael Jordan era so when we need a basketball "fix" we watch them.

Joanna by艂a w pieczenia nastr贸j dzi艣 tak zrobi艂a te karmel / pieczywo cynamonu w godzinach popo艂udniowych. Mieli艣my zamiar wyj艣膰 na chwil臋, ale odkryto tam by艂 koncert w telewizji Czes艂aw Niemen, a nast臋pnie jeden z naszych ulubionych film贸w, American Rhapsody. Babcia wyda m艂oda dziewczyna do pary na wsi i 偶y膰 z sp臋dza pierwsze 5 lat z nimi a rodzicami w Ameryce pr贸buje j膮 z W臋gier. Oczywi艣cie, ona staje si臋 za艂膮czony do ma艂偶e艅stwa i my艣li o nich jak matka i ojciec i trudny okres dostosowania kiedy w ko艅cu ma dosta膰 si臋 do Ameryki. Ostatnio by艂a dziewczyna z Pear Earring.

Czasami k艂adziemy na ta艣mie VHS mamy z Chicago Bears 1985 gry SuperBowl i pilnuj膮. Zrobili艣my wiele taping przed samym wyjazdem do Stan贸w Zjednoczonych gier, g艂贸wnie z Chicago Bulls Michael Jordan era tak, gdy musimy koszyk贸wki "naprawi膰" mo偶emy ogl膮da膰 je

Morasko

We took a little ride north of where we live to Morasko, a small village just past Suchy Las. There were two churches there, one was the old brick church no longer used, with broken glass, boarded up door but some of the stained glass was still in the windows on the opposite side. Just around the corner was the newer church standing next to a large building that was also unused any longer. Between 1783 and 1786 Year it was built for Ignacy Korwin-Bienkowski. This manor house is a late-baroque style with Classical elements.

To get to Morasko you had to drive through a little forested area, very much like the forest roads in Upper Michigan. The village itself was incorporated into the boundaries of Pozna艅 in 1987 so that's why we found one of the Pozna艅 elephants sitting in a play area. The village itself dates back to 1388. Many times these old abandoned places are just as interesting as the ones that have survived time.

Slideshow.

Tu偶 za rogiem by艂 nowszy ko艣ci贸艂 stoj膮cy obok du偶ego budynku, kt贸ry jest tak偶e niewykorzystane d艂u偶ej. W latach 1783 i 1786 roku zosta艂 zbudowany dla Ignacego Korwin Bie艅kowskiego. Ten dworek jest p贸藕nobarokowy styl z klasycznych element贸w.

Sama wioska zosta艂a w艂膮czona w granice Poznania w 1987 roku tak dlatego znale藕li艣my jeden z Poznania s艂onie siedz膮 w plac zabaw. Samej wsi pochodzi z 1388. Wiele razy te stare opuszczone miejsca s膮 r贸wnie interesuj膮ce, jak te, kt贸re przetrwa艂y czas

Ipods, Dinner and Vermeer.

Girl with Pearl Earring

Weekly meeting with Z. He told us about his problem with his 1 year, 1 week old Ipod that all of a sudden won't work anymore. The 1 year guarantee is up and when he took it to an Ipod dealer he was told that Ipods are not repairable and all he could do was buy a new one. That didn't sit too well with Zbyszek because the cost is 1,100 zl ($400) and he was never told Ipods are not repairable. He wrote a few letters to Apple about it but I doubt that will change the result.

In the evening we went to Restaurant/Club 65 to meet our friends from England for dinner. It was a little dissapointing because, first of all, the music played over the sound system was a little loud to allow easy conversation. The food itself was good but the waitress was not. The restaurant is located in Stary Rynek, close to Dom Vikingow, a restaurant that closed in December due to a water problem and a problem between the restaurant owner and the owner of the building it is in. The rynek at night has a different feel than the daytime and even though it was cold outside there were many people walking around. Crews of workmen were busy shoveling snow from the main sections and piling it up out of the way.

Back home at 10PM we watched a DVD I bought today on sale at Media Market for only 9.95zl. I check the Market every couple of weeks to see if they have added any movies at this cheap price for watching. The movie was "Girl with a Pearl Earring". It's about the 16th century painter, Vermeer, and the story about how the painting came about. Both an educational and entertaing movie, it made me more familiar with this painters work.

Earlier in the morning I put the snow shovel to use and cleared the deep snow from in front of our garage so that it is easy to get in and out now. There is still a layer of ice and snow left but it is not so deep now to give me a potential problem of getting stuck.

1 rok gwarancji jest i kiedy wzi膮艂 go do Ipod sprzedawcy dowiedzia艂 si臋, 偶e Ipods nie s膮 naprawy i jedyne, co robi艂 by艂o kupi膰 now膮. To nie siedzie膰 zbyt dobrze Zbyszka, poniewa偶 koszt wynosi 1100 z艂 (400 dolar贸w) i nigdy nie m贸wiono Ipods nie s膮 do naprawy.

Wieczorem pojechali艣my do Restauracja / Klub 65 do spe艂nienia naszych przyjaci贸艂 z Anglii na kolacj臋. By艂o troch臋 dissapointing, poniewa偶, po pierwsze, muzyka grana przez nag艂o艣nienie by艂o troch臋 g艂o艣no, aby umo偶liwi膰 艂atwe rozmowy. 呕ywno艣膰, by艂a dobra, ale kelnerka nie by艂o. Za艂贸g robotnicy byli zaj臋ci shoveling 艣nieg z g艂贸wnych sekcji i uk艂adaj膮c go z drogi.

Film by艂 "Dziewczyna z per艂膮". It's about 16 wiecznego malarza, Vermeer i historia o tym, jak malarstwo dosz艂o. Zar贸wno edukacyjnych i entertaing film, to mnie bardziej zaznajomieni z tych prac malarzy.

Wcze艣niej w nocy k艂ad臋 艂opat膮 艣nieg do wykorzystania i sprawdzone g艂臋bokim 艣niegu z przed naszym gara偶u, tak aby 艂atwo by艂o wej艣膰 i wyj艣膰 teraz.

Snow shovel.

I bought a snow shovel today to shovel out the space in front of our garage. I'm not getting stuck yet but I thought it a good idea to get rid of some of the snow before I do get stuck.

I went to Praktiker and all they had was plastic snow shovels for 42zl. I went to Castorama and they didn't have any snow shovels, just just a square piece of wood with a long stick that is used for sidewalks and not what I wanted. Is there no one in Poland that makes metal snow shovels?

Back to Praktiker I went. This snow shovel had a scoop and handle that must be fixed to the long stick with wood screws so it doesn't come apart everytime you showel. I bought one and went home just in time for a neighbor lady to pull in behind me, get out of her car and ask me if I had a shovel. I said yes, loaned it to her and watched as she put in the shovel to the snow. The scoop fell off because it wasn't fixed in place yet so I told her I would do it for her. It was funny holding the handle and scoop in place, lifting the snow so the scoop didn't fall off and then dumping the snow. Fifteen minutes later I was done, she thanked me and I took the shovel into the flat to put in the screws. Tomorrow morning I will tackle the shoveling of the driveway.

Kupi艂em 艂opata 艣nieg dzisiaj 艂opat膮 przestrze艅 przed naszym gara偶u. Nie jestem grz臋藕nie jeszcze, ale my艣la艂em, 偶e to dobry pomys艂, aby pozby膰 si臋 niekt贸rych 艣nieg przed I utkn膮膰.

Pojecha艂em do Praktikera i wszystko, co by艂o plastikowe 艂opaty 艣niegu 42z艂. Czy nikt w Polska sprawia, 偶e 艂opaty 艣niegu metal?

Powr贸t do Praktiker poszed艂em. Mia艂o to 艂opata 艣nieg 艂opatka i obs艂ugi, kt贸re musz膮 by膰 zamocowane do d艂ugiego kija z wkr臋ty do drewna, wi臋c nie 艂upa艂y Everytime You showel. Pi臋tna艣cie minut p贸藕niej sta艂o, podzi臋kowa艂a mi i wzi膮艂em 艂opat臋 do mieszkania do wprowadzenia 艣rub. Jutro rano b臋d臋 walki shoveling na podjazd.

Snowman and books.

Balcony snow
8 inches deep.
Our little balcony snowman
Ul. Gwarna
ul. Mly艅ska
ul. 27 Grudnia
Okraglak Building.
Omnibus bookstore
Lots of snow has piled up on our balcony as you can see from the pictures. The sun was out a little today so it was easy to make a little snowman for the balcony.
In the afternoon I travelled to the center to buy a new book with exercises in Polish at the Omnibus book store. They have a nice selection of language books because Omnibus is also a language school. I heard about that place before but it was my first trip there. It is across the street from the Okraglak, a round building that's been empty for a few years and is now being renovated into office space. The street pictures are the four streets that it sits near. I chose a Polish book from SuperMemo Pubs because it not only has a book but also a CD for the course on the computer and it has pronunciations and repeats words you forget. A friend told me about this course. It's produced in Pozna艅 and the language is more up to date than some of the others we have.

They have a nice wyb贸r ksi膮偶ek w j臋zyku, poniewa偶 Omnibus tak偶e szk贸艂 j臋zykowych. Jest produkowany w Poznaniu, a j臋zyk jest bardziej aktualne ni偶 niekt贸re inne mamy.
