Successful day!

No luck today at my early morning coffee cafe in finding someone to speak in Spanish with. So, I saw someone sitting further down the boardwalk and walked towards her. Just as I got close she stood up and walked away. Still determined, I saw another woman sitting with her dog and approached her, introduced myself and asked if she would speak with me. She agreed and I spoke with her for about 20 minutes. At the end she said my Spanish was good and she understood everything I had to say. I thanked her for talking with me and went home. I have to admit, though, some of the words she used I did not know but the main idea of what she said I understood. I need to do this 4-5-6 times a day but it is uncomfortable to do it when Joan is with me and she is just a bystander while I do all the talking. I am sure it is boring for her. It's not a good situation for either of us.

Today is food shopping day. I remembered that I had been saving shopping lists and menu's on this laptop for the last 2 months at home so it has been a little easier making out a shopping list and menu now. We went to Carrefour, the same store we shop in when we are in Poland. We spent 150PLN.

Radek called last night to see how we were doing. He is going to Riga for another Tango event this weekend and was just checking in with us. It's good to have friends.

In the afternoon while Joan watched a movie I went searching for another Spanish conversation. I found a man to talk with me. He was from Uruguay but living in Spain for 17 years. He is a butcher. He said he has no work now because of the off-tourist season but after Easter he will be busy again until Christmas. We talked for 1/2 hour, I thanked him and then went back to the house. That was great. 2 conversations in 1 day.

I also walked around and took some pictures today. Luckily, the church was open so I was able to go inside and photograph it. Not surprising, a picture of the late Jan Pawe艂 II was on the wall.

Widzia艂em wi臋c kogo艣 siedz膮cego dalej wzd艂u偶 deptaku i podszed艂 do niej. Kiedy si臋 zbli偶y艂em, wsta艂a i odesz艂a. Wci膮偶 zdeterminowany, zobaczy艂em inn膮 kobiet臋 siedz膮c膮 z psem i podszed艂 do niej, przedstawi艂 si臋 i zapyta艂, czy b臋dzie ze mn膮 rozmawia膰. Zgodzi艂a si臋 i rozmawia艂em z ni膮 przez oko艂o 20 minut.

Dzisiaj jest dzie艅 zakup贸w 偶ywno艣ci. Poszli艣my do Carrefour, tego samego sklepu, w kt贸rym robimy zakupy, gdy jeste艣my w Polsce. Wydali艣my 150PLN.

Radek zadzwoni艂 wczoraj wieczorem, 偶eby zobaczy膰, jak sobie radzimy. Dobrze jest mie膰 przyjaci贸艂.

Znalaz艂em cz艂owieka, 偶eby ze mn膮 porozmawia膰. On jest rze藕nikiem. Rozmawiali艣my przez p贸艂 godziny, podzi臋kowa艂em mu i wr贸ci艂em do domu. To by艂o 艣wietne. 2 rozmowy w ci膮gu 1 dnia.

Chodzi艂em te偶 i robi艂em dzisiaj zdj臋cia. Na szcz臋艣cie ko艣ci贸艂 by艂 otwarty, wi臋c mog艂em wej艣膰 do 艣rodka i sfotografowa膰 go. Nic dziwnego, 偶e na 艣cianie wisia艂 obraz zmar艂ego Jana Paw艂a II.

Normal day

Wednesday, nothing of great importance happened today. I awoke at 8:30, went to the boardwalk for  coffee, returned home to make Joan breakfast and when we finished helped her take a shower.

Our friend, Mary from Michigan, wrote and said she will come to visit on the 21st. She will spend a month in Spain but 2 weeks with us. She rented a different Airbnb place close to us so we won't be crowded in our small house.

Also talked with Ryanair and they said having our own wheel chair is no problem transporting it back to Poland with us when we fly back. I was concerned transporting it home but took reader Isa's advice and chatted with Ryanair.

W 艣rod臋 nic wielkiego nie wydarzy艂o si臋 dzisiaj. Obudzi艂em si臋 o 8:30, poszed艂em na promenad臋 po kaw臋, wr贸ci艂em do domu, 偶eby zrobi膰 艣niadanie Joan i kiedy sko艅czyli艣my, pomog艂em jej wzi膮膰 prysznic.

Nasza przyjaci贸艂ka, Mary z Michigan, napisa艂a i powiedzia艂a, 偶e przyleci na 21. Sp臋dzi miesi膮c w Hiszpanii, ale 2 tygodnie u nas.

Rozmawiali艣my r贸wnie偶 z Ryanairem i powiedzieli, 偶e posiadanie w艂asnego w贸zka inwalidzkiego nie stanowi problemu, je艣li odwieziemy go z powrotem do Polski. Chcia艂em przetransportowa膰 go do domu, ale wzi膮艂em rad臋 Izaaka i rozmawia艂em z Ryanairem.

San Blas.

Haircut Day!. Joan and I arrived on time at 11:30, greeted by Enrique and Joan sat watched the whole process. First was the haircut with clippers and then fine tuning with a razor. Next came the shaving of the beard. A salve was applied to the beard and a hot towel applied to my face. After a few minutes it was removed. Enrique, using a straight razor and the method his father had taught him, formed the beard. Then he did the mustache, eyebrows and hair in my ears using small clippers. When he was done he had my hair washed in a shampoo that highlighted gray hair. With dry hair he put the final combing on my hair. During the whole process Joan took some pictures and was amazed at it all.

This weekend is Fiesta de Saint Blas in Ribera. If you've never participated in a romer铆a before, then this could be a good one to try, comprising a pleasant walk from the seafront in Santiago de la Ribera to the park area surrounding the Ermita dedicated to Saint Blas, where free paella and entertainment is on offer to participants.
The Romer铆a de San Blas is held every 3rd February in Santiago de la Ribera, the main residential area of the municipality of San Javier on the shore of the Mar Menor, and is the only non-maritime Romeria in the Mar Menor. ( ie, the only one on land)
The origins of the celebration date back to the 16th century, when the Trinitarian monks brought their devotion to San Blas and the celebration of his feast day to San Javier and La Ribera.
The main event this year, ie the Romer铆a, is taking place on a Sunday, so this year the attendance is likely to be higher than normal.
I don't know how much we will atter but certainly the Sunday festivities.

Dzie艅 fryzury! Joan i ja przybyli艣my punktualnie o 11:30, przywitani przez Enrique i Joan siedz膮 ogl膮daj膮c ca艂y proces. Najpierw przycinano maszyn臋 do strzy偶enia w艂os贸w, a nast臋pnie stroono brzytw膮. Nast臋pnie ogolono brod臋. Na brod臋 na艂o偶ono ma艣膰 i na moj膮 twarz na艂o偶ono gor膮cy r臋cznik. Po kilku minutach zosta艂 usuni臋ty. Enrique, u偶ywaj膮c prostej brzytwy i metody, kt贸rej nauczy艂 go jego ojciec, utworzy艂 brod臋. Kiedy sko艅czy艂, zanurzy艂 moje w艂osy w szamponie, kt贸ry podkre艣la艂 siwe w艂osy. W suchych w艂osach po艂o偶y艂 ostatni grzebie艅 na moich w艂osach. Podczas ca艂ego procesu Joan robi艂a zdj臋cia i by艂a tym zaskoczona.

W ten weekend jest Fiesta de Saint Blas w Ribera. Je艣li nigdy wcze艣niej nie by艂e艣 na przyj臋ciu, mo偶e to by膰 dobra przygoda, sk艂adaj膮ca si臋 z przyjemnego spaceru od morza w Santiago de la Ribera do otaczaj膮cego Ermita parku Saint Blas, gdzie dost臋pna jest bezp艂atna paella i rozrywka. uczestnicy.

Romer铆a de San Blas odbywa si臋 co 3 lutego w Santiago de la Ribera, g艂贸wnej dzielnicy mieszkalnej gminy San Javier na wybrze偶u Mar Menor i jest jedyn膮 nieop艂acaln膮 Romeri膮 w Mar Menor. (tzn. jedyny na l膮dzie)

Pocz膮tki ceremonii si臋gaj膮 XVI wieku, gdy mnisi trynitarni przynie艣li swoje nabo偶e艅stwo do San Blas i obchody jego 艣wi臋ta, San Javier i La Ribera.

G艂贸wne wydarzenie w tym roku, Romer铆a, odb臋dzie si臋 w niedziel臋, wi臋c w tym roku frekwencja b臋dzie prawdopodobnie wy偶sza ni偶 zwykle.

A chair..

Thinking about what to do for a wheel chair for Joan I checked several websites in Poland and all of them had the chairs with the BIG wheels in the back and somewhat heavier. Nothing like the one we are using here in Spain.

I emailed Jim, who gave the one we have now, to see if it's possible to get one through his organization but he said there was too much red tape involved. He did tell me, however, about a pharmacy/orthopedic center a half mile from where we are staying that might be able to help. I could easily find it by going down the boardwalk to the location. So, we did and I found it.

They do sell several models, one that is almost exactly like the one we have but a different manufacturer. I talked to someone about buying one before we leave but first have to figure out how to get it back to Poland.

I made my first Paprakasz tonight, not from the recipe Joan has because we forgot pack it, but from one on the internet. It didn't taste as good as Joan's. Maybe because I had to substitute pecante pimiento spice for papryka or the fact that I forgot to add the sour cream. It was eatable anyway but nothing I would repeat. This cooking thing is new to me.

Z 艂atwo艣ci膮 mog艂em go znale藕膰 przechodz膮c promenad膮 do miejsca. Tak zrobili艣my i znalaz艂em to.

Sprzedaj膮 kilka modeli, jeden prawie taki, jaki mamy, ale innego producenta.

Zrobi艂em m贸j pierwszy Paprakasz dzi艣 wieczorem, nie z przepisu Joan, poniewa偶 zapomnieli艣my go spakowa膰, ale od jednego w Internecie. W ka偶dym razie by艂o to jad艂o, ale nic nie powtarza艂bym. Ta kuchnia jest dla mnie nowo艣ci膮.

Sunday morning.

Another early morning searching for someone to talk with in Spanish but to no avail. I guess Sunday is sleep-in day.

At home I made breakfast of musli and toast for Joan, then helped her into the wheel chair for a stroll to the good coffee cafe. When we were done drinking a cup we sat on a bench on the boardwalk and people watched with the sun shining upon us.

As it happened, there was a Spanish lady talking in English to an English man about health insurance in Spain as a permanent resident. She seemed to know a lot about it, pointing out the differences between public and private health care to him, and what documents were needed to obtain it. They talked for about 45 minutes and when they got up to leave I asked if she could answer a few questions for me. She gave me her business card, said to call her and we could meet for coffee another time. Also she said first to send her an email with my questions and the type of documents I had in my possession already so she could be better prepared to answer my questions. I did that when we returned home.

Tomorrow I have an 11:30 appointment with Enrique, the barber, to have my beard and hair cut. I will take Joan with me.

Przypuszczam, 偶e niedziela to sen.

Kiedy sko艅czyli艣my pi膰 fili偶ank臋, usiedli艣my na 艂awce na deptaku i ludzie patrzyli, jak s艂o艅ce 艣wieci na nas.

Wydawa艂o si臋, 偶e du偶o o tym wie, wskazuj膮c na r贸偶nice mi臋dzy publiczn膮 i prywatn膮 opiek膮 zdrowotn膮 dla niego i jakie dokumenty by艂y potrzebne, aby go uzyska膰. Da艂a mi swoj膮 wizyt贸wk臋, powiedzia艂a, 偶eby do niej zadzwoni膰, a my mogliby艣my spotka膰 si臋 po raz kolejny na kaw臋. Powiedzia艂a te偶, 偶e najpierw wys艂a艂a jej e-mail z moimi pytaniami i typem dokument贸w, kt贸re ju偶 posiada艂em, aby mog艂a lepiej przygotowa膰 si臋 do odpowiedzi na moje pytania. Zrobi艂em to, kiedy wr贸cili艣my do domu.

Zabior臋 ze sob膮 Joan.

I spoke Spanish

I took Carmelo's advice after a disappointing meeting with the International Language Club.

We arrived on time at 19:00 and by 20:30 no had appeared. We departed and went to the Chinese restaurant for dinner. Joan had Spring rolls, chicken with cashew nuts and brown rice. I had chicken with tomatoes, broccoli, corn, brown rice and Spring rolls. We received a message that members of the club were late but would be at the restaurant. By the time we finished, still no one appeared and we went home.

Earlier, Carmelo told me just to approach anybody and ask if they would speak to me in Spanish. This morning, early while Joan was still sleeping, I went for coffee and saw a man sitting alone in front of my table. I finished my coffee, walked up to him, introduced myself and asked if he would speak to me in Spanish so I could practice. He agreed. He was from Malaga, on vacation, single and very helpful. I told him I was just at the beginner level but after 20 minutes he said I was more like the intermediate level. He had very little understand what I said and meant in Spanish. It made me feel good. We talked for 1/2 hour. I thanked him fr his patience and said goodbye.

Back home. Joan was awake. It was 11:00. She got dressed and I took her to the cafe with the best coffee. She was hungry so she ordered shrimp with a delicious bread. I had my favorite. calamari. When we finished I spoke. we went shopping again.

Doradzi艂em Carmelo po rozczarowuj膮cym spotkaniu z Mi臋dzynarodowym Klubem J臋zykowym.

Przyjechali艣my punktualnie o 19:00 i do 20:30 nie pojawi艂 si臋 偶aden. Wyszli艣my i poszli艣my do chi艅skiej restauracji na kolacj臋. Joan mia艂a sajgonki, kurczaka z orzechami nerkowca i br膮zowy ry偶. Mia艂em kurczaka z pomidorami, broku艂ami, kukurydz膮, br膮zowym ry偶em i sajgonkami. Otrzymali艣my wiadomo艣膰, 偶e cz艂onkowie klubu byli sp贸藕nieni, ale byliby w restauracji. Kiedy sko艅czyli艣my, wci膮偶 nikt si臋 nie pojawi艂 i pojechali艣my do domu.

Wcze艣niej Carmelo powiedzia艂 mi, 偶ebym podszed艂 do kogo艣 i zapyta艂, czy b臋d膮 m贸wi膰 do mnie po hiszpa艅sku. Sko艅czy艂em kaw臋, podszed艂em do niego, przedstawi艂em si臋 i zapyta艂em, czy m贸g艂by m贸wi膰 do mnie po hiszpa艅sku, abym m贸g艂 膰wiczy膰. Zgodzi艂 si臋. Sprawi艂o, 偶e poczu艂em si臋 dobrze. Rozmawiali艣my przez p贸艂 godziny.

Powr贸t do domu. Joan nie spa艂a. By艂a 11:00. Ubra艂a si臋 i zabra艂em j膮 do kawiarni z najlepsz膮 kaw膮. By艂a g艂odna, wi臋c zam贸wi艂a krewetki z pysznym chlebem. Mia艂em swoje ulubione. kalmary. Kiedy sko艅czyli艣my, przem贸wi艂em. znowu poszli艣my na zakupy.

Que bonita dia!

Yes, what a beautiful day! I woke up at 8:00 while Joan continued sleeping, got dressed, took my camera and walked down to the beach to photograph the sunrise. It was beautiful! On the way there I passed the open medical center and thought about going in but didn't.

After the sunrise, I stopped at the only opened cafe for a coffee and went to the medical center to see a doctor about a prescription for high cholesterol. I had no idea how it would go. Much to my joy, it was extremely easy. The receptionist spoke no English so our conversation was in Spanish. She asked for my card, I thought she meant ID card and gave her mine but she meant my insurance card. I gave her the European Blue Card. She filled out the papers, copied the card, asked for my address in Santiago and phone number, then told me to go down the hall to room #1. I sat there for 5 minutes, then was called in by the female doctor who only spoke Spanish. I told her my problem of not bringing my cholesterol medicine to Spain, she looked it up on the internet and wrote out a prescription for 3 months. All together it took about 10 minutes.I thanked her very much, thanked the receptionist, went to the local pharmacy and now have the needed medicine.

Back home, Joan was awake and I helped her get dressed. 10 minutes later Jim arrived with a light-weight wheel chair and took back the walker. We have it to use until we leave...for free.

I made oatmeal and toast for breakfast, helped Joan into the wheel chair and we went for a walk on the beach boardwalk. About an hour later we went to the cafe that has the best coffee, then later to see Enrique to make an appointment for a beard and haircut. We got there just as he was closing for siesta and made the meeting for next Tuesday at 11:30.

Now Joan is sitting next to meet watching "Grace and Frankie" from our external drive connected to the large TV screen. Thank God I finally found the drive hidden away in my computer bag. In a few hours we will be going to meet the International Language Club in Los Alcozares at 19:00. Dinner tonight will be Chinese.

Jaki pi臋kny dzie艅! To by艂o pi臋kne!

Ku mojej rado艣ci by艂o to niezwykle 艂atwe. Poprosi艂a o moj膮 kart臋, my艣la艂em, 偶e chodzi艂o o dow贸d osobisty i da艂em jej sw贸j, ale mia艂a na my艣li moj膮 kart臋 ubezpieczeniow膮. Da艂em jej niebiesk膮 kart臋 EKUZ. Wype艂ni艂a papiery, skopiowa艂a kart臋, poprosi艂a o m贸j adres w Santiago i numer telefonu, a potem kaza艂a mi zej艣膰 korytarzem do pokoju nr 1. Powiedzia艂em jej o moim problemie, o tym, 偶e nie zabra艂em do Hiszpanii leku na cholesterol, ona poszuka艂a go w Internecie i wypisa艂a recept臋 na 3 miesi膮ce. Wszystko razem zaj臋艂o oko艂o 10 minut. Podzi臋kowa艂em jej bardzo, podzi臋kowa艂em recepcjonistce, poszed艂em do lokalnej apteki i mam teraz potrzebne lekarstwo.

Kiedy wr贸ci艂em do domu, Joan ju偶 si臋 obudzi艂a, a ja pomog艂em jej si臋 ubra膰. 10 minut p贸藕niej Jim przyby艂 z lekkim w贸zkiem inwalidzkim i zabra艂 chodzik. Mamy go, dop贸ki nie wyjdziemy ... za darmo.

Na 艣niadanie zrobi艂em owsiank臋 i tosty, pomog艂em Joan usi膮艣膰 na w贸zku inwalidzkim i poszli艣my na spacer po nadmorskiej promenadzie. Oko艂o godziny p贸藕niej udali艣my si臋 do kawiarni, w kt贸rej jest najlepsza kawa, a p贸藕niej do Enrique, aby um贸wi膰 si臋 na strzy偶enie i golenie. Dotarli艣my tam, kiedy zamyka艂 zak艂ad na sjest臋 i um贸wi艂 mnie na w przysz艂y wtorek o 11:30.

Teraz Joan siedzi obok i ogl膮da "Grace i Frankie" z zewn臋trznego dysku pod艂膮czonego do du偶ego ekranu telewizora. Dzi臋ki Bogu, w ko艅cu znalaz艂em dysk schowany w mojej torbie na laptop. Za kilka godzin, o 19:00p贸jdziemy, aby si臋 spotka膰 w International Language Club w Los Alcozares. Dzisiaj na kolacj臋 b臋dzie chi艅szczyzna.

Things forgotten

Today it was cloudy but 17c. However, tomorrow 20c and sunny, a good day for a walk by the beach.
Joan in the picture above making hamburgers.

I had a call from the Help at Home man, Jim, and he said he would deliver the wheelchair tomorrow morning. It will make it so much easier for Joan outside of the house, Inside she can walk enough to get around with my help but outside the distances are too long. I had to go to Dos Mares again today and so she stayed in the car while I went in to buy what was necessary. With a wheel chair she will not have to stay in the car.

Tomorrow night we will return to the International Language club meetings in Los Alcozares and go with them after to dinner at the Chinese restaurant. It will be good to see all of those people again. I have kept in touch with some of them using WhatsApp during the last year. Also, our frien, Carmelo, will visit us over the weekend.

Now that we have settled in here, I realize how overwhelming planning this trip was for me this time because I had many more things added to my "to do" list and only discovered too late what I missed doing.

First, I forget to pack my "mouse" for the laptop, second, forget to bring Joan's house shoes, third, forgot the recipe folder for making dinners and worst of all, I forgot to pack one of my medicines needed for the next 3 months.

Dzi艣 by艂o pochmurnie, ale 17C.
Joan na powy偶szym zdj臋ciu robi hamburgery.

Zadzwoni艂 do mnie Jim, m臋偶czyzna z firmy Help at Home i powiedzia艂, 偶e jutro rano dostarczy w贸zek inwalidzki. Dzi艣 znowu musia艂em i艣膰 do Dos Mares, wi臋c Joan zosta艂a w samochodzie, a ja poszed艂em kupi膰 to, co konieczne. Z w贸zkiem inwalidzkim nie b臋dzie musia艂a zostawa膰 w samochodzie.

Jutro wieczorem wr贸cimy na spotkania Mi臋dzynarodowego Klub J臋zykowego w Los Alcozares i p贸jdziemy z nimi na kolacj臋 do chi艅skiej restauracji. Dobrze b臋dzie zn贸w zobaczy膰 tych wszystkich ludzi. Z niekt贸rymi z nich utrzymywa艂em kontakt na WhatsApp w ci膮gu ostatniego roku. R贸wnie偶 nasz przyjaciel Carmelo, odwiedzi nas w weekend.

Teraz, kiedy ju偶 tu osiedli艣my, zdaj臋 sobie spraw臋, jak tym razem planowanie tej podr贸偶y by艂o dla mnie przyt艂aczaj膮ce, poniewa偶 do listy "do zrobienia" doda艂em du偶o wi臋cej rzeczy i za p贸藕no odkry艂em to, co przegapi艂em.

Arrival

No trip ever goes as planned. Yes, we are here now in Santiago, arriving late last night at 3:00 in the morning. It was 2 hours later than planned.

First, I have to say that the Special Assustance we received from Ryanair made the trip very much easier. In Pozna艅, they met us with a wheel chair for Joan. checked us in, took her through security and then to Gate 5 to wait for boarding time. All the other passenger were at Gate 6 to board the plane from the right side. SA had a special vehicle for wheel chairs that lifted up and allowed entrance from the left side of the plane. The plane was 1/2 hour late in leaving and caused us a problem in Spain with our care rental. In Spain, we were met by SA people who were also very helpful even with the car rental.

At the car rental, Firefly. normally closing at midnight, there were 7 people at 23:50 waiting to rent a car with reservations. Most were unaware you needed to take a number for waiting. By the time we did it was after midnight. Finally when it was my turn at 01:30, I was informed there was an additional 49EURO charge because I registered after midnight according to the machine. I told the man I was there BEFORE midnight but he said he had to go by the registration. By the time we were done it was 01:45, the SA wheeled Joan to the waiting car, I helped her in and drove to Santiago arriving at 03:00. All we did as bring in the luggage and go to bed.

Today, as the sun shone on this 19 day, we went to the shopping center, Dos Mares, and bought what we needed for the house. It was really hard for Joan to walk around and do he  shopping and I am going to arrange for a wheel chair if I can. I don't want her spending each day not being able to do things because she is worried about walking.

Tak, jeste艣my teraz w Santiago, gdzie dotarli艣my p贸藕no w nocy, o 3:00 nad ranem. By艂o to 2 godziny p贸藕niej ni偶 by艂o zaplanowane.

Wi臋kszo艣膰 nie zdawa艂a sobie sprawy, 偶e trzeba wzi膮膰 numerek. Kiedy to zrobili艣my, by艂o po p贸艂nocy. W ko艅cu, kiedy przysz艂a moja kolej by艂a 01:30 i poinformowano mnie, 偶e jest dodatkowa op艂ata 49EURO, poniewa偶 zarejestrowa艂em si臋 po p贸艂nocy zgodnie z rejestratorem. Powiedzia艂em cz艂owiekowi, 偶e by艂em tam PRZED p贸艂noc膮, ale on powiedzia艂, 偶e musi post臋powa膰 zgodnie z rejestracj膮. Gdy sko艅czyli艣my by艂a 01:45, obs艂uga SA poprowadzi艂a w贸zek z Joan do czekaj膮cego na nas samochodu, pomog艂em jej wsi膮艣膰 i pojecha艂em do Santiago, gdzie przyby艂em o 03:00. Wszystko, co zrobili艣my, to wnie艣li艣my baga偶e i poszli艣my spa膰.

Dzi艣, gdy s艂o艅ce 艣wieci艂o , poszli艣my do centrum handlowego Dos Mares, i kupili艣my to, czego potrzebujemy w domu. Joan by艂o trudno chodzi膰 i robi膰 zakupy, a ja zamierzam za艂atwi膰 w贸zek inwalidzki, je艣li b臋d臋 m贸g艂.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the day, or evening I should say, that we depart for Spain. I have to admit I am a little bit nervous this time leaving. It will be the first time needing assistance getting Joan through the airport, security and on and off the plane. I really hope there is no mess up in the arrangement made by the airline to cause ANY problem. We have to be at the airport 2 hours before the flight, check in at the Special Assistance desk of the airline first, then Check-in, security and wait at the boarding gate. We will be seated at the back of the plane going to Spain and the front of the plane coming back to Poland. I don't know if the assistance covers getting the luggage when we arrive in Spain. This is all new to me.

I took the Christmas tree down and put it away this morning while Joan was sleeping. Seemed a little strange doing it alone.

14 hours from now we will begin our trip. I will do the packing in the morning, checking the lists to make sure I don't forget something we need. Naturally, I will blog the whole adventure in Spain.

Jutro jest dzie艅 lub wiecz贸r, musz臋 powiedzie膰, 偶e wyje偶d偶amy do Hiszpanii. Musz臋 przyzna膰, 偶e tym razem troch臋 si臋 denerwuj臋. Musimy by膰 na lotnisku 2 godziny przed lotem, najpierw odprawi膰 si臋 na stanowisku pomocy specjalnej linii lotniczej, potem odprawi膰 si臋, zabezpieczy膰 i czeka膰 na bramce wej艣ciowej. Usi膮dziemy na ty艂ach samolotu jad膮cego do Hiszpanii, a front samolotu wr贸ci do Polski.

Z艂o偶y艂em 艣wi膮teczn膮 choink臋 i od艂o偶y艂em j膮 rano, podczas gdy Joanna spa艂a. Wydawa艂o si臋 troch臋 dziwne robienie tego samemu.

Za 14 godzin rozpoczniemy nasz膮 podr贸偶. Rano zajmiemy si臋 pakowaniem, sprawdzaj膮c listy, aby upewni膰 si臋, 偶e nie zapomn臋 czego艣, czego potrzebujemy. Oczywi艣cie, b臋d臋 blogowa膰 ca艂膮 przygod臋 w Hiszpanii.

Good day.

We had a nice 2 hour long visit this morning around 11:00 from Micha艂 and Ma艂gorzata. We talked about several things and before they left, Micha艂 went with me to our neighbor to ask if they would watch over our flay while we were in Spain. They easily agreed and wished us a good trip.

In the afternoon I helped Joan prepare the Spicy Peanut Soup for dinner tonight, answered some emails, cleaned a little bit and then sat down to be with Joan.

Mieli艣my mi艂膮, dwugodzinn膮 wizyt臋 rano o godzinie 11.00 od Micha艂a i Ma艂gorzaty. Rozmawiali艣my o kilku rzeczach i zanim wyszli, Micha艂 poszed艂 ze mn膮 do s膮siada, by zapyta膰, czy b臋d膮 pilnowa膰 naszego flaya, kiedy b臋dziemy w Hiszpanii. Z 艂atwo艣ci膮 zgodzili si臋 i 偶yczyli nam dobrej podr贸偶y.

Po po艂udniu pomog艂em Joan przygotowa膰 zup臋 z orzeszk贸w ziemnych na kolacj臋 dzi艣 wieczorem, odpowiedzia艂em na kilka e-maili, troch臋 posprz膮ta艂em, a potem usiad艂em, by by膰 z Joan.

One less worry.

Using Live Chat, I was able to arrange Special Assistance to help me get Joan on and off the airplane to Alicante on Tuesday. The lady, Anita, was very helpful. She rearranged our seating on the plane going and coming back. There will be someone in Pozna艅 with a wheelchair to get us through the airport, security and then on the plane. In Alicante it will be the same. That takes a big load off of my mind. The service is free of charge and they even refunded Joan the cost of her reserved seating.

It's been sunny and the same temperature as in Santiago the last few days. Almost makes me wonder why leave? However, I know psychologically it will be better for Joan. Walking will be easier in level sidewalks wherever we go,whether it is the short distance to the center of town or to the beach. There will be more English speakers for her to talk with and maybe, maybe she will try a little Spanish although I think the language block is in her mind already. She was doing very good with Spanish a few months ago but that has changed with this new development.

Here in Poland, many cities broadcasted the funeral of the President of Gda艅sk and plazas were full of people denouncing hate and violence.

I was thinking about my friend, John, who now waits for the President to sign his Polish citizenship paper. I am happy that everything went smoothly for him. He did not have the obstacles in his path that I have. After years of studying the language and being married to a Polish citizen who passed away a few years ago, he speaks the language well. All his documents were in order so it went quickly through the system.

Korzystaj膮c z czatu na 偶ywo, uda艂o mi si臋 zorganizowa膰 Pomoc Specjaln膮,  aby pom贸c we wtorek i wtargn膮膰 z samolotu do Alicante. Pani, Anita, by艂a bardzo pomocna. Przestawi艂a nasze siedzenia na pok艂adzie samolotu i wraca艂a. B臋dzie kto艣 w Poznaniu z w贸zkiem inwalidzkim, kt贸ry zabierze nas przez lotnisko, ochron臋, a potem samolot. W Alicante b臋dzie tak samo. To wymaga du偶ego obci膮偶enia mojego umys艂u. Us艂uga jest bezp艂atna, a oni nawet zwracaj膮 Joan koszt zarezerwowanych miejsc.

Prawie sprawia, 偶e zastanawiam si臋, dlaczego odej艣膰? Jednak wiem, psychologicznie, 偶e b臋dzie lepiej dla Joan. B臋dzie wi臋cej os贸b, z kt贸rymi mog艂aby rozmawia膰 po angielsku i mo偶e, mo偶e spr贸buje troch臋 hiszpa艅skiego, chocia偶 my艣l臋, 偶e blok j臋zykowy ju偶 jest w jej g艂owie.

Tu, w Polsce, wiele miast nadawa艂o pogrzeb Prezydenta Gda艅ska, a na placach pe艂no by艂o ludzi pot臋piaj膮cych nienawi艣膰 i przemoc.

Ciesz臋 si臋, 偶e wszystko posz艂o g艂adko dla niego.

Snow

Yes, it snowed a little last night and this morning. It didn't stop us from going food shopping and other things outside. We only spent 88 PLN because of the short week.

I needed to make copies of Joan's latest medical reports, put them on pen drive and send copies to the psychologist in Gda艅sk for her to study.

After that it was off to the bank to withdraw money to exchange for Euros to be used in Spain. I'm never sure how much is enough and withdrawing it in Spain, converting to Euros is expensive.

Since we were already outside I thought why not stop and have a coffee at Sowa's and say hello to the girls. Joan had no objection.

Now Joan is sitting and making a list of what she thinks we need to take to Spain. I will make mine and then we will come up with a final checklist before we pack on Monday.

By 16:00 the sun was gone and I was doing the washing of clothes. While I was waiting for it to finish I washed the dishes, made the bed and brought in the water bottles from the car.

My friend John, from Pittsburgh who filed for his Polish citizenship at the Consulate in New York three months ago, sent a message that everything passed and now he is just waiting for the Presidential signature.   I am still waiting for Joan's birth and marriage records to be accepted by the Polish Civil Registry, 9 months later.

Tak, troch臋 wczoraj spad艂o i dzi艣 rano.

Musia艂em sporz膮dzi膰 kopie najnowszych raport贸w medycznych Joanny, w艂o偶y膰 je na pendrive i wys艂a膰 kopie do psychologa w Gda艅sku, 偶eby mog艂a si臋 uczy膰.

Teraz Joan siedzi i sporz膮dza list臋 rzeczy, kt贸re wed艂ug niej powinni艣my zabra膰 do Hiszpanii. Zrobi臋 swoje, a potem przedstawimy ostateczn膮 list臋 kontroln膮, zanim spakujemy si臋 w poniedzia艂ek.

O 16:00 s艂o艅ce ju偶 nie by艂o i robi艂em pranie. Kiedy czeka艂em, a偶 si臋 sko艅czy, umy艂em naczynia, zrobi艂em 艂贸偶ko i przynios艂em butelki z samochodu.

Busy

A busy day today. It started out showing Joan some new pictures of her daughter and grandson on their skiing trip to Colorado. Next it was time to make the food shopping list for our last 4 days before we leave. Then I had to answer 2 emails from friends in Spain who offered any help they could when we arrive next week.  Next I had to arrange the bank transfers to automatically pay the bills here while we were gone. After that I went to the apteka to get Joan's prescriptions only to find out that one medicine was no longer produced in 10mg. form, just in 5 mg. I thought I would have to go back to the doctor for a new script but the pharmacist said it was not necessary, she would have another box of 5mg. for me tomorrow but I should tell the doctor about the change. I would think the doctor should have been notified by the manufacturer.

The next task was to count out all the pills of each medicine to be sure we have enough for our long stay. That took a while to do and I checked twice to be sure it was correct. I still have to print out our boarding passes although I could just use the app. on my phone. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but I like the security of having the boarding pass on paper in my hand.

Now I need to start a list of what to take with us so I don't forget something

Pracowity dzie艅 dzisiaj. Nast臋pnie nadszed艂 czas, aby zrobi膰 list臋 zakup贸w 偶ywno艣ci na nasze ostatnie 4 dni przed wyjazdem. My艣la艂em, 偶e b臋d臋 musia艂 wr贸ci膰 do lekarza po now膮 recept臋, ale farmaceutka powiedzia艂a, 偶e to nie jest konieczne, ona jutro b臋dzie dla mnie mia艂a pude艂ko po 5 mg, ale powinienem powiedzie膰 lekarzowi o zmianie. S膮dz臋, 偶e lekarz powinien zosta膰 powiadomiony przez producenta.

Nast臋pnym zadaniem by艂o zliczenie wszystkich tabletek ka偶dego leku, aby mie膰 pewno艣膰, 偶e mamy wystarczaj膮c膮 ilo艣膰 na nasz d艂ugi pobyt.

Teraz musz臋 rozpocz膮膰 list臋 tego, co zabra膰 ze sob膮, 偶eby czego艣 nie zapomnie膰.

Zbyszek visits.

Zbyszek came over for a visit and to see how Joan was doing. We shared some pastries. coffee, talked about the tragic death in Gda艅sk. He said it was rather strange that the Minister of Justice ordered police not to be present at the event. He stayed for about an hour and then I went to the pharmacy to give the prescriptions for Joan's medications to take to Spain. I will get mine on Friday.  I have to make sure we have enough for the whole time we are there.

It's getting close to departure time so I have to set up automatic bank transfers for heating, eater and electricity on our flat here. I can only estimate what the costs will be as the bills come in the mail and our neighbor will be collecting our mail while we our gone. I did it like that last year and it worked out well.

I think my only problem will be getting Joan on and off the airplane. With her trouble now climbing stairs it will be difficult, plus walking down the aisle to our seats.

Zbyszek wpad艂 z wizyt膮, by zobaczy膰, jak si臋 miewa Joan. Podzielili艣my si臋 ciastem, kaw膮, rozmawiali艣my o tragicznej 艣mierci w Gda艅sku. Moje otrzymam w pi膮tek. Musz臋 si臋 upewni膰, 偶e mamy wystarczaj膮cy zapas na ca艂y czas, kiedy tam b臋dziemy.

Zbli偶a si臋 czas wyjazdu, wi臋c musz臋 ustawi膰 automatyczne przelewy bankowe za ogrzewanie, wod臋 i elektryczno艣膰 w naszym mieszkaniu. Zrobi艂em tak w zesz艂ym roku i wszystko posz艂o dobrze.

My艣l臋, 偶e moim jedynym problemem b臋dzie wsadzenie i wysadzenie Joan z samolotu.

Demonstration

Last Sunday, at 18:00 a Pozna艅 demonstration against violence took place. There were no speeches, or political slogans.

By intention, the meeting on pl. Wolno艣膰i was to be a vigil for the health of President Pawe艂 Adamowicz, who was fighting for his life. He fell victim to an assassin during the Gdansk final of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. However, the tragic news about the death of the president of Gda艅sk changed the nature of the demonstration. It became a meeting commemorating the tragically deceased.

Politicians were present at the demonstration - including The President of Pozna艅, Jacek Ja艣kowiak and Rafa艂 Grupi艅ski from the ruling city of the Citizens' Coalition, but also representatives of all important political factions - however none of them took the floor.

https://www.facebook.com/epoznan/videos/752803581786281/

Ostatnia niedziel膮 o godz. 18:00 odby艂a si臋 pozna艅ska demonstracja przeciwko przemocy. Bez przem贸wie艅, wyst膮pie艅 i politycznych hase艂.

W zamy艣le, spotkanie na pl. Wolno艣ci mia艂o by膰 czuwaniem w trosce o zdrowie walcz膮cego o 偶ycie prezydenta Paw艂a Adamowicza, kt贸ry pad艂 ofiar膮 no偶ownika podczas gda艅skiego fina艂u Wielkiej Orkiestry 艢wi膮tecznej Pomocy. Jednak tragiczne wie艣ci o 艣mierci prezydenta Gda艅ska zmieni艂y charakter demonstracji. Sta艂a si臋 ona spotkaniem upami臋tniaj膮cym tragicznie zmar艂ego.

Na manifestacji byli obecni politycy - m.in.

My dream

I woke up this morning at 3:30 and got out of bed to write this. I just had a dream about my cousin Sister Illuminata. She was the oldest daughter of my grandfather's brother, W艂adys艂aw. She was instrumental in getting my aunt Genevieve to become a nun, later to be known as Sister Redempta.

It started in the old, two story, project house I grew up in but now I was an adult living there with Joan. She came for a visit and to play cards. She came in, sat down at the table, saw that Joan had just made an apple pie and said she would like a piece. While Joan was cutting the pie, she told me cousin Ron and his wife with 3 other people had come to visit her at the school where she was living and teaching. I said I had seen Ron last week. Before we started with the pie and coffee I told her I wanted to show her something since it was the first time she visited us in the house. I was going to take her upstairs to the dining room but then remembered we didn't live in that old place. All of a sudden the dream location switched to where we live now.

I walked her into the dining room and showed her the genealogy chart. She was amazed and thrilled to see it on the wall right in front of her. I told her how it all started and the years I had put into it. It was like being in a time warp because it all started from information after she was dead and yet here she was looking at it. However, time didn't seem to matter. I said the chart was 13 years old and many people had been added since it was printed and I would have a more up to date one in May. Then I walked her around the flat and showed her all the pictures of families on the walls and the picture of her and Pope Jan Pawe艂 II. That was my dream. I don't know why I had it but I hope she sees it, the tree.

After writing about the dream I went to bed and awoke at 10:00 to sunshine that turned into a gray snowy day. I had to go out to the store to buy a few things and fill the car with gasoline. The roads were slick and driving was slow. Back at home I helped Joan prepare Chili for our dinner tonight.

Obudzi艂em si臋 dzi艣 rano o 3:30 i wsta艂em z 艂贸偶ka, 偶eby to napisa膰. W艂a艣nie mia艂em sen o mojej kuzynce, siostrze Illuminacie. By艂a najstarsz膮 c贸rk膮 brata mojego dziadka, W艂adys艂awa. Pomaga艂a mojej ciotce Genevieve zosta膰 zakonnic膮, p贸藕niej znan膮 jako siostra Redempta.

Dzi艣 rano obudzi艂em si臋 o 3:30 i wsta艂em z 艂贸偶ka, 偶eby to napisa膰. W艂a艣nie mia艂em sen o mojej kuzynce, siostrze Illuminacie. By艂a najstarsz膮 c贸rk膮 brata mojego dziadka, W艂adys艂awa. Pomaga艂a mojej ciotce Genevieve zosta膰 zakonnic膮, p贸藕niej znan膮 jako siostra Redempta.

Sen zacz膮艂 si臋 w starym, dwupi臋trowym domu, w kt贸rym dorasta艂em, ale teraz mieszka艂em tam z Joan. Kuzynka przysz艂a z wizyt膮 i gra艂a w karty. Wesz艂a, usiad艂a przy stole i zobaczy艂a, 偶e Joan w艂a艣nie zrobi艂a szarlotk臋 i powiedzia艂a, 偶e chcia艂aby dosta膰 kawa艂ek. Podczas gdy Joan kroi艂a ciasto, powiedzia艂a mi, 偶e kuzyn Ron i jego 偶ona z 3 innymi osobami odwiedzili j膮 w szkole, w kt贸rej mieszka艂a i naucza艂a. Powiedzia艂em jej, 偶e widzia艂em Rona w zesz艂ym tygodniu. Zanim zacz臋li艣my je艣膰 ciasto i pi膰 kaw臋, powiedzia艂em jej, 偶e chc臋 jej co艣 pokaza膰, poniewa偶 po raz pierwszy odwiedzi艂a nas w tym domu. Nagle senna lokalizacja zmieni艂a si臋 w miejsce, w kt贸rym teraz mieszkamy.

Wprowadzi艂em j膮 do jadalni i pokaza艂em drzewo genealogiczne. By艂a zdumiona i zachwycona, widz膮c je na 艣cianie tu偶 przed sob膮. Powiedzia艂em jej, jak to wszystko si臋 zacz臋艂o i ile lat w to w艂o偶y艂em. Jednak czas nie wydawa艂 si臋 mie膰 znaczenia. Potem oprowadzi艂em j膮 po mieszkaniu i pokaza艂em jej zdj臋cia wszystkich rodzin na 艣cianach oraz jej zdj臋cie i papie偶a Jana Paw艂a II. To by艂 m贸j sen. Nie wiem, dlaczego go mia艂em, ale mam nadziej臋, 偶e ona widzi to drzewo.

Kiedy opisa艂em m贸j sen, poszed艂em spa膰 i obudzi艂em si臋 o godzinie 10:00 w 艣wietle dnia, kt贸re zmieni艂o si臋 w szary 艣nie偶ny dzie艅. Musia艂em wyj艣膰 do sklepu, 偶eby kupi膰 kilka rzeczy i nape艂ni膰 bak benzyn膮. Drogi by艂y 艣liskie i jazda by艂a powolna.

Delays.

So, last March, 2018 I started at Civil Registry to register my birth in the Polish registry. Because I am married, I had to register my wife's birth and our marriage license. It is now January, 2019 and still all documents have not been accepted for one reason or another. Each rejection meant a new letter to the department in the U.S. to clarify it and then an apostille stamp. Each new document had to be officially translated into the Polish language before submission. All of this is necessary BEFORE I can apply for citizenship. Between now and the time we leave for Spain there is no time to translate and submit the 2 new documents to see if they pass. It will be May before it happens. My birth, alone, was accepted. It could be 2021 before I become a citizen with the waiting period involved.

Today we watched the 2 NFL Playoff games on YouTube then I took Joan to Sowa's to get her out of the house. It was the usual gray day, with rain and 10c. Soon, in 9 days, we will be in the sun with 19c. Amazing how different you feel when the sun shine, even if it is cold.

A wi臋c, w marcu 2018 zacz膮艂em dzia艂ania by zarejestrowa膰 swoje narodziny w polskim rejestrze. Poniewa偶 jestem 偶onaty, musia艂em zarejestrowa膰 narodziny mojej 偶ony i nasz akt ma艂偶e艅stwa. Ka偶da odmowa oznacza nowy list do jakiego艣 departamentu w Stanach Zjednoczonych, aby j膮 wyja艣ni膰 i otrzyma膰 piecz臋膰 Apostille. B臋dzie maj zanim si臋 to stanie. Tylko m贸j akt urodzenia zosta艂 przyj臋ty. Tak wi臋c mo偶e si臋 zdarzy膰, 偶e obywatelstwo dostan臋 w 2021 roku, bior膮c pod uwag臋 czas niezb臋dny do rozpatrzenia wniosku.

Dzi艣 ogl膮dali艣my 2 Playoffy NFL na YouTube, potem wzi膮艂em Joan do Sowy, by wyci膮gn膮膰 j膮 z domu. To by艂 zwyk艂y szary dzie艅, z deszczem i temperatur膮 10 stopni Celsjusza. Wkr贸tce, za 9 dni, b臋dziemy w s艂o艅cu, w temp. 19 stopni Celsjusza.

Visitor

We had a nice visit from friend Micha艂 today. He stayed for about 2 hours and Joan and I talked with him about many different things. He is a lawyer in Pozna艅 so we were able to learn about the newest developments in the judiciary system in Poland. It's too difficult to read about them in the newspapers. I've known him for a few years and it's good to see the improvement he has made in speaking English. far better than mine in Polish. Joan has met his wife, Ma艂gorzata, before when she helped was very helpful at the Civil Registry office.

We spent the day at home. I made breakfast. Easy, musli. milk and toast. Tonight Joan and I made a Cobb salad.

Last night we watched, again the new Bohemian Rhapsody movie starring Rami Malek and then a clip of the Goldeen Globe Awards where he won the Best Actor Award for his performance in the movie. I think he deserved it. I love the music and it was good to get Freddie Mercury's story recognition.

Dzi艣 mieli艣my mi艂膮 wizyt臋 naszego przyjaciela Micha艂a. By艂 u nas przez oko艂o 2 godziny. Joan i ja rozmawiali艣my z nim o wielu r贸偶nych rzeczach. On jest prawnikiem w Poznaniu, wi臋c mieli艣my okazj臋 dowiedzie膰 si臋 o najnowszych zmianach w systemie s膮downictwa w Polsce. Znacznie wi臋ksz膮 ni偶 mojej w polskim. Joan pozna艂a jego 偶on臋 Ma艂gorzat臋 wcze艣niej, gdy pomaga艂a nam w Urz臋dzie Stanu Cywilnego.

Sp臋dzili艣my dzie艅 w domu. Zrobi艂em 艣niadanie. 艁atwe: musli. mleko i tosty. Dzisiaj wieczorem Joan i ja robili艣my sa艂atk臋 Cobb.

My艣l臋, 偶e na to zas艂u偶y艂. Kocham muzyk臋 wiec mi艂o by艂o pozna膰 histori臋 Freddiego Mercury'ego.

Extra.

Joan's been in the house or in the hospital for too many days so I thought I should get her out of here today. I took her to Piotr & Pawel to buy the hamburger meat we needed and then to Sowa's for coffee and ciasto. The sales girls were very happy to see her again and all came over to ask how see was doing. That was nice.

Back at home we watched, Extra in Spanish. It's a TV series on YouTube in Spanish but with English subtitles. It's funny and they they don't speak rapidly. I think it will help with pronunciation and keeping the language fresh for Joan. Plus, it's far better than watching the news channels.

Zabra艂em j膮 do Piotra i Paw艂a, 偶eby kupi膰 mi臋so hamburgera, kt贸rego potrzebowali艣my, a potem do Sowy na kaw臋 i ciasto. To by艂o 艂adne.

Wr贸ci艂y艣my do domu, kt贸re ogl膮dali艣my, Extra po hiszpa艅sku. My艣l臋, 偶e pomo偶e to w wymowie i utrzymaniu 艣wie偶o艣ci j臋zyka dla Joanny.

Shopping day.

Today was food shopping day for me while Joan stayed at home. I spent 100 PLN($27) at Carrefour and 45 PLN($12) at Piotr & Pawel. It took me 45 minutes from door to door. With Joan's instability I couldn't leave her alone for long.

I spoke with the preeminent psychologist in Poland today, from Gda艅sk. She is willing to test Joan more extensively but her schedule is full until March. We return from Spain on the 24th of April so we will go to Gda艅sk the beginning of May for the testing. It may take a day or two. She also said the test are only the beginning and that there may be programs or therapy to help Joan. If so, she can contact a psychologist in Pozna艅 to do that.

I have the final 2 documents for Civil registry but at this point is doesn't seem so important now.

Dzisiaj by艂 dla mnie dzie艅 zakup贸w 偶ywno艣ci, podczas gdy Joan zosta艂a w domu. Wyda艂em 100 PLN (27 USD) w Carrefour i 45 PLN (12 USD) u Piotra i Paw艂a. Zaj臋艂o mi to 45 minut od wyj艣cia do powrotu. Z niestabilno艣ci膮 Joanny nie mog艂em d艂ugo zostawi膰 jej samej.

Rozmawia艂em dzi艣 z wybitnym psychologiem w Polsce, z Gda艅ska. Z Hiszpanii wr贸cimy 24 kwietnia, wi臋c w maju pojedziemy do Gda艅ska na testy. Mo偶e to potrwa膰 dzie艅 lub dwa. Powiedzia艂a tak偶e, 偶e test to dopiero pocz膮tek i 偶e mog膮 by膰 programy lub terapia, kt贸re Joan pomog膮.

A new day

A rather sleepless night for me, worried Joan might try to get out of bed or roll out of bed but it was fine. Today she seems better, just the trouble walking and with low energy.

It's another gray, rainy day and time to make the shopping list for tomorrows food shopping. It's a new task for me, to make out the menu for next week. I guess it's time to revisit my cooking skills of years ago when I lived alone in the forest. However, now the food has to be good or Joan will tell me :-) Some of the things I made back then were not so tasty.

Yesterday I was terrified most of the day with what the future holds in store for us, today I am not.

To by艂a dla mnie raczej nieprzespana noc, martwi艂em si臋, 偶e Joan mo偶e pr贸bowa膰 wsta膰 z 艂贸偶ka albo z niego wyj艣膰, ale by艂o dobrze.

To kolejny szary, deszczowy dzie艅 i czas na zrobienie listy na jutrzejsze zakupy. S膮dz臋, 偶e nadszed艂 czas, aby ponownie zapozna膰 si臋 z moimi umiej臋tno艣ciami gotowania sprzed lat, gdy mieszka艂em samotnie w lesie. Jednak teraz jedzenie musi by膰 dobre, a Joan mi powie :-) Niekt贸re z tych rzeczy, kt贸re wtedy robi艂em, nie by艂y takie smaczne.

Wczoraj przez wi臋kszo艣膰 dnia ba艂em si臋 tego, co czeka nas w przysz艂o艣ci, dzi艣 ju偶 nie.

She's home.

They released her today at 12:15. I am exhausted, scared, terrified of the future.

Pu艣cili j膮 dzisiaj o 12:15. Jestem wyczerpany, przera偶ony, przera偶ony przysz艂o艣ci膮.

Joan's not happy.

Disappointed, Joan didn't come home today. The psychological test wasn't until the afternoon so she is sill in the hospital. A Polish Resident whos speaks English translated the Polish psychologist test. I wonder how much was lost in the translation and how accurate it is.

Rozczarowana Joan nie wr贸ci艂a dzisiaj do domu.

Joan3

I have mixed feelings about posting this. It's personal but I've already shared so many of my personal thoughts with you already over the last 11 years. Some will say it should only be kept in the "family" but I've learned there can be more to the meaning of family than just "family".  So, here it is.........

Professor Zeglar, from the Nuero Dept. at the hospital spoke with me and confirmed my second fear. All of Joan's symptoms indicate that she has dementia. It's a progressive disease. They still want to do a psychological test to determine which type of dementia she has. The problem is the psychologist only has the tests in Polish and French and speaks only those languages. How they will resolve this I don't know. We meet again tomorrow morning at the hospital.

I talked with the Dr. about our trip and he said it could be a problem should Joan require medical attention or a hospital. I know, on the other hand, there is a new hospital in San Javier, 10 minutes from where we will be, with complete services including a neurology department. It is only 4 years old. Besides that, the plus sides for going are Joan would be going to a familiar environment, the flat. She already knows people and the town, the weather would be more conducive to daily walks in sunshine than in Poland and cancelling the trip on top of the already bad news would be even more devastating. He said the thing to do was see how she is doing at home between now and our departure date. That is my plan.

Mam mieszane uczucia co do opublikowania tego. To dotyczy osobistej sprawy, ale w ci膮gu ostatnich 11 lat dzieli艂em si臋 ju偶 wieloma osobistymi przemy艣leniami. A wi臋c .........

Profesor Zeglar, w oddzia艂u neurologicznego w szpitalu rozmawia艂 ze mn膮 i potwierdzi艂 drug膮 z rzeczy, kt贸rej si臋 ba艂em. Wszystkie objawy wskazuj膮, 偶e Joan ma demencj臋. Jest to choroba post臋puj膮ca. Chc膮 jeszcze zrobi膰 test psychologiczny, aby okre艣li膰, jaki to rodzaj demencji. Jak rozwi膮偶膮 ten problem, nie wiem. Mamy si臋 spotka膰 z nimi jutro rano w szpitalu.

Rozmawia艂am z doktorem o naszej podr贸偶y i powiedzia艂, 偶e mo偶e by膰 problem, gdy Joan b臋dzie wymaga艂a pomocy lekarskiej lub trafi do szpitala. Zosta艂 oddany do u偶ytku 4 lata temu. Poza tym, do plus贸w wyjazdu nale偶y, 偶e Joan by艂aby w 艣rodowisku, kt贸re zna. Zna ludzi i miasto, pogoda w Hiszpanii b臋dzie bardziej sprzyja艂a codziennym spacerom w s艂o艅cu ni偶 w Polsce. Rezygnacja z podr贸偶y przy tych wszystkich z艂ych wiadomo艣ciach by艂aby jeszcze bardziej druzgoc膮ca.

Joan

2 weeks ago Joan fell when she was turning around in the bedroom. She hit the back of her head on the dresser but not hard. Even so, I knew that was not good. I watched her closely for the next days to see if there were any changes in movement, speech, understanding, etc. There were none. As the weeks went on I forgot about it. 3 days ago she woke up and had more trouble walking, some speaking and understanding and it worried me enough to call the neurologist. I explained everything to him and he advised me to take her immediately to hospital. He said sometimes even a little bump may cause a bleed by one of the clips in her brain and it may take weeks before signs start showing. She is at MSW hospital now and has had a CT scan. It showed NO change from last year. However, a CT does not show the blood vessels in the brain so they did an MRI last night to be sure there is no bleeding. If there is none, then they have to figure out why this change happened.

It is now 17:00, Friday and we have the results of the MRI. I am ecstatic to tell you there is no change from the one taken last year. There is NO bleeding, NO tumor, NO hematoma or swelling. In short, her brain is in tact. Tomorrow they will do an EKG o see if there is a problem there or it could be the medications. However, the biggest wory, her brain, is safe. HALLELUJAH.

Dwa tygodnie temu Joan upad艂a, gdy odwr贸ci艂a si臋 w sypialni. Uderzy艂a w ty艂 g艂owy w komod臋, ale nie twarda. Mimo to wiedzia艂em, 偶e nie by艂o dobrze. Nie by艂o 偶adnych. Z up艂ywem tygodni zapomnia艂em o tym. 3 dni temu obudzi艂a si臋 i mia艂a wi臋cej k艂opot贸w z chodzeniem, troch臋 m贸wienia i zrozumienia i martwi艂o mnie to wystarczaj膮co, aby zadzwoni膰 do neurologa. Wyja艣ni艂em mu wszystko i doradzi艂, bym zabra艂 j膮 natychmiast do szpitala. Ona jest teraz w szpitalu MSW i mia艂a tomografi臋 komputerow膮. Nie wykaza艂o 偶adnych zmian w por贸wnaniu z zesz艂ym rokiem.

Jest teraz 17:00, pi膮tek i mamy wyniki MRI. Jestem zachwycony, 偶e mog臋 powiedzie膰, 偶e nie ma 偶adnej zmiany od tej, kt贸r膮 zrobiono w zesz艂ym roku. Nie ma krwawienia, NO.tumor, krwiaka ani obrz臋ku NO. Kr贸tko m贸wi膮c, jej m贸zg jest w takt. Jednak wielki m贸zg, jej m贸zg, jest bezpieczny. ALLELUJA

New Chart?

In 2005 I had the family tree printed as a wall chart that is on my wall now. My software, PDF, changed their format and only prints horizontally now. I would need to cover 3 walls for the chart now. Obviously, I have added many names to the tree since 2005.

I searched the internet looking for a company who could print a new chart within the dimensions I wanted, both vertically and horizontally. I specifically looked in the U.K. because delivery time would be shorter. I found one that seems to be able to accommodate my needs and now I'm just waiting to see the cost. It would be nice to have a new, updated tree.

Oprogramowanie PDF zmieni艂o format i teraz drukuje tylko w poziomie wi臋c musia艂bym obj膮膰 wykresem 3 艣ciany. Oczywi艣cie, od 2005 roku doda艂em wiele nazwisk do drzewa.

Szuka艂em w Internecie informacji o firmie, kt贸ra mog艂aby wydrukowa膰 nowy wykres w 偶膮danych wymiarach, zar贸wno w pionie, jak i w poziomie. Szczeg贸lnie poszukiwa艂em w Wielkiej Brytanii, poniewa偶 czas dostawy by艂by kr贸tszy. Znalaz艂em tak膮, kt贸ry wydaje si臋 by膰 w stanie zaspokoi膰 moje potrzeby i teraz czekam na to, by zobaczy膰 koszt. By艂oby mi艂o mie膰 nowe, zaktualizowane drzewo.

2019

                                          HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
