A little ill.

Yesterday was a disaster at the Civil Registry office. 1 out of 3 documents from, America had the last name of Joan's father ending with...s....Fredericks, instead of Frederick, and because it did not match the other documents, they rejected all 3. So, I have to write to the offices in the U.S. to tell them to fix their mistake and get corrected documents. Also the marriage license did not have the name of the city, church and address where we were married.  MAYBE by January it will be right this time. 10 months after I started just to enter into the Civil Registry. Still no actual application for citizenship.

Taking Joan out in the early morning cold also was not so good for her. This morning she woke up with a little fever and cough and did not feel well. I think tomorrow she may have to miss our trip to Golina if she is not feeling better. I will go alone but not stay too long. I don't want to leave her alone for too long.

I did the food shopping by myself from Joan's list. Cost.,160PLN($42) for the next 8 days.

Wczoraj by艂a katastrofa w urz臋dzie stanu cywilnego. Fredericks, zamiast Frederick, a poniewa偶 nie pasowa艂o do innych dokument贸w, odrzucili wszystkie. Wi臋c, musz臋 napisa膰 do urz臋d贸w w USA, aby poinformowa膰 ich o skorygowaniu b艂臋du i wys艂aniu poprawionych dokument贸w. R贸wnie偶 akt ma艂偶e艅stwa nie mia艂 nazwy miasta, w kt贸rym si臋 pobrali艣my, ani nazwy ko艣cio艂a i adresu.

Dzi艣 rano obudzi艂a si臋 z lekk膮 gor膮czk膮 i kaszlem, i nie czu艂a si臋 dobrze. My艣l臋, 偶e jutro mo偶e b臋dzie musia艂a omin膮膰 nasz膮 podr贸偶 do Golina, je艣li nie poczuje si臋 lepiej. Nie chc臋 zostawi膰 jej samej zbyt d艂ugo.

Sam zrobi艂em zakupy artyku艂贸w spo偶ywczych z listy Joan.

Goodbye Amy & Diedre.

It's been a wonderful visit with cousin Amy Sassenberg and her friend Diedre.  However, all good things must come to an end (I don't really believe that) and this morning was the end of the visit. They had bus tickets arranged to Prague at 12:20 so we were up at 9:00 and they packed their rucksacks and at 10:30 we went to Petite Paris where they treated us to a Lavender Latte and croissants. We talked about our meeting, exchanging our information about our mutual family connection and over the last 4 days I was able to add another 48 people to the family tree. It's a pity Amy didn't have the opportunity to meet cousin Krzysztof because he has done a lot of research of the Rajewski side of the connection where she comes from. Joan was a fantastic host, cooking some very good and unknown meals for them like 偶urek.

After leaving Petite Paris, we drove them to the bus station. I was vigorously yelled at by the security guard for driving down the bus lane to let them out right in front of the bus. I just let them out, told the yelling man I didn't understand Polish and drove out. The poor man must have had thought I was a terrorist or something like that. Oh well, he survived.

So, it was a good experience for Amy and I to meet each other. Maybe our partners got a little bored when we spent the time going over our family history but they knew it was an important part and reason for our meeting. It filled in a lot of blanks in my archive of her part of the family and made it clearer for her how we are connected. Only time will tell if we will ever actually meet again so it was nice this meeting happened when it did. Naturally there was not enough time to show her many important or beautiful places or cities or meet with other family members but we crammed as much as we could in the 4 days together. I think she was happy with the visit.

To by艂a wspania艂a wizyta u kuzyna Amy Sassenberg i jej przyjaciela Diedre. Mieli bilety autobusowe do Pragi o 12:20, wi臋c byli艣my na 9:00 i pakowali swoje plecaki, ao 10:30 poszli艣my do Petite Paris, gdzie potraktowali nas Lavender Latte i rogaliki. Rozmawiali艣my o naszym spotkaniu, wymieniaj膮c si臋 informacjami na temat naszego wsp贸lnego zwi膮zku rodzinnego iw ci膮gu ostatnich 4 dni uda艂o mi si臋 doda膰 kolejne 48 os贸b do drzewa genealogicznego. Szkoda, 偶e Amy nie mia艂a okazji pozna膰 kuzyna Krzysztofa, poniewa偶 przeprowadzi艂 wiele bada艅 nad stron膮 Rajewskiego, sk膮d pochodzi.
Po opuszczeniu Petite Paris pojechali艣my nimi na dworzec autobusowy. Energicznie krzykn臋艂o mnie, 偶e stra偶nik opu艣ci艂 pas autobusowy i wypu艣ci艂 ich przed autobus. No c贸偶, prze偶y艂.
Amy i ja mieli艣my dobre spotkanie ze sob膮. Mo偶e nasi partnerzy troch臋 si臋 nudzili, kiedy sp臋dzali艣my czas przegl膮daj膮c histori臋 naszej rodziny, ale wiedzieli, 偶e to wa偶na cz臋艣膰 i pow贸d naszego spotkania. My艣l臋, 偶e by艂a szcz臋艣liwa z wizyty

Amy's 4th day

It's really hard to respond to the blog. We've  been entertaining for 4 nights a cousin from Seattle and her friend. It's been good to get to know Amy. We've seen a few places in Pozna艅, drank a lot of Wisn贸wka, and learned a lot about each other's lives. The more time I spend with her, the more I like her. This is funny. This is why I came to Poland, to find out more about my cousins and yet I have to wait for cousins from America to come here to find out more about them.  Why do I not know more about cousins who live in Poland? Is there something wrong that cousins living here do not want to have contact with me?  Is it because I was born in America and even though my bloodline is as Polish as theirs they do not still consider me a relative?  Is is my fault my parents were born in America?  I tire of this game. I have so many cousins cousins here and yet so few want to have contact with me. Why? It is a questions that bothers me for many years.

I have done so much research on our family and yet so few are interested in it. Don't they care ? Why are only the Americans interested in the family history and those who actually live here not? These are questions that have puzzled me for many years and still I have no answers. I have no answers.  All I can do is move forward and hope that someday, before I die, some one will take an interest in the history and all that I have done will not be in vain.  It is frustrating to think it will all die with me.

Last night, after dinner, we played Scrabble and drank another 3 bottles of Wisn贸wka. This has been a very unusual weekend of drinking for us but with guests it was an exception. The last time we drank so much was when my nephew was here.

Today Amy made breakfast for us all. Scrambled eggs with mushrooms, cheese, bacon and spices. I provided the after breakfast dessert, rogala's. It was, of course, the first time they had them and they liked them very much.

When breakfast was over, I took them to see the castle in K贸rnik. It surprised me. With money from the EU, they have renovated the outside of it and it looks new. I liked it better when it was gray and looked old. We spent a couple of hours there and then returned home.

Naprawd臋 trudno jest odpowiedzie膰 na blogu. Przez 4 noce byli艣my rozrywk膮 kuzyna z Seattle i jej przyjaci贸艂ki. Dobrze by艂o pozna膰 Amy. Poznali艣my kilka miejsc w Poznaniu, pili艣my du偶o Wisn贸wki i wiele si臋 nauczyli艣my o 偶yciu innych. Im wi臋cej czasu z ni膮 sp臋dzam, tym bardziej j膮 lubi臋. Czy co艣 jest nie tak, 偶e 偶yj膮cy tu kuzyni nie chc膮 mie膰 ze mn膮 kontaktu?

Dlaczego tylko Amerykanie s膮 zainteresowani histori膮 rodziny i tymi, kt贸rzy rzeczywi艣cie tu mieszkaj膮? S膮 to pytania, kt贸re zastanawiaj膮 mnie od wielu lat i wci膮偶 nie mam odpowiedzi. Nie mam odpowiedzi. Wszystko, co mog臋 zrobi膰, to i艣膰 naprz贸d i mie膰 nadziej臋, 偶e pewnego dnia, zanim umr臋, kto艣 zainteresuje si臋 histori膮 i wszystko, co zrobi艂em, nie b臋dzie na pr贸偶no. Frustruj膮ce jest my艣lenie, 偶e wszystko umrze razem ze mn膮.

Ostatniej nocy, po kolacji, grali艣my w Scrabble i wypili艣my kolejne 3 butelki Wisn贸wki. To by艂 bardzo niezwyk艂y weekend picia dla nas, ale z go艣膰mi by艂 to wyj膮tek. Ostatnim razem, kiedy tak du偶o pili艣my, by艂 m贸j bratanek.

Dzisiaj Amy zrobi艂a dla nas 艣niadanie. Jajecznica z pieczarkami, serem, boczkiem i przyprawami. Dostarczy艂em deser po 艣niadaniu, rogala. To by艂 pierwszy raz, kiedy je mieli i bardzo im si臋 podoba艂o.

Gdy 艣niadanie si臋 sko艅czy艂o, zabra艂em je na zamek w K贸rniku. To mnie zaskoczy艂o. Podoba艂o mi si臋 lepiej, gdy by艂o szaro i wygl膮da艂o na stare. Sp臋dzili艣my tam kilka godzin, a potem wr贸cili艣my do domu.

Amy's 3rd day

I had a meeting in the morning with 2 people near Solacki Park so I took Amy and Diedre to the park so they could visit it. They spent about an hour and then went to Petite Paris for Lavender Latte coffee and to get warm again. I picked them up at 11:00, went back home to get Joan and then we all went to Drukarnia for breakfast.

Afterwards we walked down to the rynek and I pointed out the interesting buildings and told them whatever history I knew about the place. We stop and visited inside the Ratusz(Town Hall) and they were impressed with the concert hall on the second floor. From there we walked to the Baroque church and  I showed them what I could and let them take pictures. I've taken so many pictures in that church but I took a few more today using the newer lens on the statues. It still feels a little strange taking pictures in a church, I don't know why.

After the church we went to a cd/record store where Amy purchased a CD to take home to the U.S.

Rano mia艂em spotkanie z 2 osobami ko艂o Parku Solackiego, wi臋c zabra艂em Amy i Diedre do parku, 偶eby mogli go odwiedzi膰. Sp臋dzili oko艂o godziny, a potem udali si臋 do Petite Paris na kaw臋 Lavender Latte i zn贸w si臋 ogrzali.

P贸藕niej poszli艣my na rynek i wskaza艂em interesuj膮ce budynki i opowiedzia艂em im wszystko, co wiem o tym miejscu. Zatrzymujemy si臋 i odwiedzamy Ratusz (Ratusz) i byli pod wra偶eniem sali koncertowej na drugim pi臋trze. Stamt膮d poszli艣my do barokowego ko艣cio艂a i pokaza艂em im, co mog艂em, i pozwoli艂em im robi膰 zdj臋cia. Wci膮偶 wydaje si臋 troch臋 dziwne robienie zdj臋膰 w ko艣ciele, nie wiem dlaczego.

Po ko艣ciele poszli艣my do sklepu p艂yt cd / record, gdzie Amy kupi艂a p艂yt臋 CD, aby zabra膰 j膮 do Stan贸w Zjednoczonych.

Amy's first two days.

I picked up Amy and her friend, Dierdre, on time and we went to the flat. Joan was waiting and the girls were hungry so we had lunch and then talked until it was time for Joan to prepare dinner. She made 呕urek and chicken thighs with rice.  It was all good, of course. After we had coffee and a few pastries. When that was done we drank two bottles of Soplica Wi艣n贸wka.

The second day was road trip day. The traffic was terrible for an early Friday afternoon and it seemed to take forever to get anywhere. We drove to Staw first, then to the cemetery in Golina. Amy was looking for graves of Rajewski relatives. I knew there were some in Golina but thought we would check the village of Staw first. By the time we finished it was already 17:00 so we decided to come back home the quick way.

Joan made another good dinner, salmon with pasta bows and cream sauce.

Wzi膮艂em Amy i jej przyjaciela, Dierdre, na czas i poszli艣my do mieszkania. Joan przygotowa艂a obiad. Joan przygotowa艂a obiad. Robi艂a 呕urek i udo z kurczaka z ry偶em. Oczywi艣cie wszystko by艂o dobrze. Po kawie i kilku ciastkach. Kiedy to zrobiono, wypi艂em dwie butelki Soplicy Wi艣n贸wki.

Drugi dzie艅 by艂 dniem podr贸偶y. Ruch na pocz膮tku by艂 straszny. Najpierw pojechali艣my do Stawy, a potem na cmentarz w Golina. Amy szuka艂a grob贸w krewnych Rajewskich. Wiedzia艂em, 偶e s膮 jedni w Golina, ale pomy艣leli, 偶e najpierw sprawdzimy wiosk臋 Staw. Gdy sko艅czyli艣my, by艂o ju偶 17.00, wi臋c postanowili艣my wr贸ci膰 na szybk膮 drog臋.

Joan zrobi艂a kolejn膮 dobr膮 kolacj臋, 艂oso艣 z makaronowymi kokardkami i sosem 艣mietanowym.

Shopping.

A message from Amy saying she was already in Pozna艅 and spending the night somewhere. I will pick her and her friend up tomorrow and they will stay until Monday.

Well, shopping day turned out to be a surprise. With all the items we had to buy, including a new dish rack, I expected to break a new shopping record. I was somewhat shocked when the clerk said it was 148PLN for everything. I didn't question the cost, just quickly paid the bill and left. However, I think there was something wrong in the calculation of the machine or something didn't get scanned properly.

After washing the curtains in the living room and kitchen, hanging them back up, cleaning my PC desk, taking out the garbage, washing the kitchen floor anc cleaning the shower, we went food shopping. We returned home just in time to turn around and get to Sowa's for our 15:00 meeting with Zbyszek.

We talked about the elections last Sunday and he said in 2 cities there will be a second election. In order or a candidate to win he has to get more than 50% of the votes. If no one does, the two candidates who have the highest percentage of votes are in another election. This one takes place on November 4th. That sounds like a good way to do it. There is no such thing as an Electoral College in Poland. So, theoretically, which one has the better system of "Democracy", the U.S. or Poland?

Jutro odbior臋 j膮 i jej przyjaci贸艂k臋 i pozostan膮 do poniedzia艂ku.

Ze wszystkimi rzeczami, kt贸re musieli艣my kupi膰, wliczaj膮c now膮 suszark臋 do naczy艅, spodziewa艂em si臋 pobi膰 rekord sumy za zakupy. By艂em nieco zszokowany, gdy kasjer powiedzia艂, 偶e za wszystko jest 148PLN.

Po wypraniu zas艂on w salonie i kuchni, ich powieszeniu, wyczyszczeniu biurka pod PC, wyniesieniu 艣mieci, umyciu pod艂ogi w kuchni i wyczyszczeniu prysznica, poszli艣my zrobi膰 zakupy spo偶ywcze.

Rozmawiali艣my o wyborach w ubieg艂膮 niedziel臋 i on powiedzia艂, 偶e w dw贸ch miastach odb臋d膮 si臋 drugie wybory. Aby by艂o jak nale偶y, kandydat, aby wygra膰 musi uzyska膰 wi臋cej ni偶 50% g艂os贸w. Ta b臋dzie mia艂a miejsce 4 listopada. Wydaje si臋, 偶e jest to dobry spos贸b.

YUCK!

An exciting day of washing curtains, cleaning the bathroom, meeting with Radek, paying the electric bill, 210PLN($57) and looking at the dismal day outside of gray skies and rain.

Ekscytuj膮cy dzie艅 z praniem firan, czyszczeniem 艂azienki, spotkaniem z Radkiem, op艂aceniem rachunku za pr膮d 210pln (57$) i patrzeniem na ten ponury dzie艅 poprzez szare niebo i deszcz

Voting in Poland

Yesterday, voters were to select nearly 47,000 aldermen and 2,500 mayors and other local officials.
Polling stations opened at 7am and were due to close at 9pm.
Judge Wies艂aw B艂u艣, a member of the State Electoral Commission, said police had noted 385 reports of incidents such as disturbing the peace and public order, conducting political campaigning despite a ban on such activity immediately before and during the ballot, and damaging or removing electoral campaign material.
"These are not events that have had a decisive impact on the course of the elections,” he added.
A temporary media blackout came into force in Poland on Friday at midnight under which anyone publishing opinion polls showing the level of support for election candidates faces a fine of up to PLN 1 million (EUR 233,000, USD 268,000).
The ban lasts until polling officially closed. Political campaigning is also forbidden during this period. This should be adopted in the U.S.

Law and Justice (PiS) won 32.3 percent of the vote. The Civic Coalition managed to secure 24.7 percent, Polish People’s Party (PSL) 16.6 percent, the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) 5.7 percent, Kukiz’15 6.3 percent and an independents list 6.3 percent. The turnout of about 30 million eligible voters was 51.3 percent. The official results to be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Wczoraj wyborcy mieli wybra膰 prawie 47 000 radnych i 2500 burmistrz贸w oraz innych lokalnych urz臋dnik贸w.

Lokale wyborcze otworzy艂y si臋 o 7 rano i mia艂y zosta膰 zamkni臋te o 21.00.

Zakaz trwa do oficjalnego zamkni臋cia g艂osowania. To powinno zosta膰 zaadaptowane w Stanach Zjednoczonych.

Prawo i Sprawiedliwo艣膰 (PiS) zdoby艂o 32,3 procent g艂os贸w. Koalicja Obywatelska zdo艂a艂a zdoby膰 24,7 proc., PSL 16,6 proc., SLD 5,7 proc., Kukiz'15 6,3 proc., a niezale偶ni 6,3 proc. Frekwencja oko艂o 30. milion贸w uprawnionych do g艂osowania wynios艂a 51,3 procent. Oficjalne wyniki zostan膮 og艂oszone we wtorek lub 艣rod臋.

Early

A message from cousin Amy that she will be arriving a day early, Thursday, and spending 3 nights in Pozna艅. It might throw off our meeting with cousin Krzysztof, I'm waiting to hear from him.

Today was not a day of rest. It was clean the living room and bathroom day. Tomorrow is the kitchen and then the flat is finished. The weather forecast for those 3 days is not good, gray with rain 2 out of the 3 days. Looks like she just missed our golden autumn. That's too bad.

Wiadomo艣膰 od kuzyna Amy, 偶e przyjedzie dzie艅 wcze艣niej, w czwartek, i sp臋dzi 3 noce w Poznaniu.

Dzisiaj nie by艂 to dzie艅 odpoczynku. To by艂 czysty pok贸j dzienny i 艂azienka. Jutro jest kuchnia, a potem mieszkanie jest sko艅czone. To 藕le.

Meetings.

Saturday started out all gray, early morning, but a little sun did appear during the day. It was nice to see. Amazing how it changes peoples attitude. Both, the sun and the gray, easily creep into attitude it seems. Maybe the first year or so here it was the same for me but I learned to think sunshine everyday after that. That is not to say I am not looking forward to our 3 months in Spain but that has more to do with temperature and practicing the language than attitude.

I had two nice conversations earlier. One with a young man who was doing an internship in a financial firm in Warsaw during the summer and the other with a lawyer here in Pozna艅. I hadn't seen the young man since last June so it was interesting to hear his adventure living in Warsaw, working there, discovering the difference between pubs there and in Pozna艅 and what he is doing now back at university. The lawyer talked about his participation in marathons, we talked about our fathers and only a little about politics.

Joan was home alone most of the day so I took her to Sowa's for coffee and ciasto. She's been busy the last two days house cleaning and I thought she needed a little diversion.

Soon November 1st will be upon us and we will make our annual pilgrimage to Golina to honor my ancestors and relatives in the cemetery. It's one of my most favorite times. It is such a beautiful event.

Mi艂o by艂o to zobaczy膰. Niesamowite, jak zmienia nastawienie ludzi. Wygl膮da na to, 偶e s艂o艅ce i szaro艣膰 s膮 艂atwe do skr臋powania. By膰 mo偶e by艂em dla mnie taki sam. Nauczy艂em si臋 codziennie my艣le膰 o s艂o艅cu.

Mia艂em dwie mi艂e rozmowy wcze艣niej. Prawnik m贸wi艂 o swoim udziale w maratonach, rozmawiali艣my o naszych ojcach, a tylko troch臋 o polityce.

Joan by艂a sama w domu. Zabra艂em j膮 do Sowy na kaw臋 i ciasto. Przez ostatnie dwa dni by艂a zaj臋ta i my艣la艂em, 偶e potrzebuje troch臋 rozrywki.

Wkr贸tce 1 listopada 2009 Golina na cze艣膰 moich przodk贸w i pielgrzymki. To jeden z moich najbardziej lubianych razy. To takie pi臋kne wydarzenie.

Voting time.

A week from today cousin Amy from California will be here for a visit for the first time. Unfortunately the weather has turned and now were headed into gray days with rain instead of sunshine. Maybe by the time she gets here the sun might peak through.

Radek and I are working on phrasal verbs now in Spanish and they are interesting to learn. Like English, putting two verbs together changes their meaning and you can only memorize what it means. There are no rules to govern it. It's going to take some time and study to get them into my brain but I will.

This weekend is the big election of local governmental offices in Poland, a case of the PiS party versus the PO party as usual. Similar to the Democrats versus the Republicans in the U.S.. The PiS party would be the Republicans.

Niestety pogoda zosta艂a odrzucona. By膰 mo偶e zanim dotrze tutaj, s艂o艅ce mo偶e osi膮gn膮膰 szczyt.

Radek i ja pracujemy nad czasownikami frazowymi teraz po hiszpa艅sku i s膮 interesuj膮ce do nauczenia si臋. Podobnie jak angielski, wprowadzaj膮c dwa czasowniki razem zmian. Nie ma 偶adnych zasad, kt贸re by go regulowa艂y.

Parti膮 PiS byliby Republikanie.

News

Today news of a new cousin, Brendon Thomas McAvoy, in Michigan. The little boy was 13 weeks early and only 2 1/2 lbs when he was born. He's in the intensive care unit in the hospital but a week after his birth he is breast feeding and putting on weight, all good signs. It's a difficult time for his parents, Mitch and Juliette. All we can do is pray he continues to recover and grow into a fine little boy.

Again I had problems with my main laptop and decided to reset it back to it's original form. I kept all my essential files on the D drive and waited the 2 or so hours while th system reloaded. The automatic updates took forever to load and one file, after 4 hours, was still only at 60%. I went into the system and stopped the automatic reload. I will find out tonight when I talk with Andrzej if the silent microphone problem has been fixed by reverting back to the original system. I hope so.

Another shopping day, spending 155PLN for the week. I'd say 150 is about the average now.11 years ago it was 100.

Dzi艣 wiadomo艣ci o nowym kuzynie Brendonie Thomas McAvoy z Michigan. Wszystko, co mo偶emy zrobi膰, to modli膰 si臋, aby nadal zdrowia艂 i wyrasta艂 na fajnego ch艂opca.

Zn贸w mia艂em problemy z moim g艂贸wnym laptopem i postanowi艂em zresetowa膰 go z powrotem do ustawie艅 fabrycznych. Wszed艂em do systemu i zatrzyma艂em automatyczne za艂adowanie. Kiedy dzi艣 wieczorem b臋d臋 rozmawia膰 z Andrzejem dowiem si臋, czy problem braku d藕wi臋ku w mikrofonie zosta艂 naprawiony w wyniku powrotu do systemu fabrycznego. Mam nadziej臋.

Kolejny dzie艅 na zakupy na ca艂y tydzie艅, na kt贸re wydali艣my 155PLN. Powiedzia艂bym, 偶e 150 z艂 to teraz jest 艣rednia. 11 lat temu by艂o 100 z艂.

Biedronka

Somehow I missed writing yesterday. We were suppose to go to the Civil Registry office at 9:00 but Malgorzata sent me a message the night before, Monday, saying she had an unscheduled business meeting and couldn't meet us. I heard my phone but thought it was a warning the battery was low and didn't read her message until Tuesday morning AFTER Joan was awake, dressed and ready to go. A big mistake on my part. To appease her, I took her to breakfast at Drukarnia and then for a walk around.

Today was clean a room day and we started with the bedroom. So much junk has been pushed under the bed and it was time to get rid of it all. It was like a spring cleaning but in autumn. With guests coming next week we have no choice but to clean the place up, more than the normal cleaning. The flat is never really dirty but we tend to leave the drastic, professional type cleaning until the last minute. Well, that minute is here.

Cousin Andrzej told me something interesting happened in Golina recently. In the park next to the old church, along a path there has been an exhumation of bodies of German soldiers from WWII. It seems someone in Germany discovered they were buried in Golina and arranged to have them exhumed and the remains sent back to families in Germany. Andrej walked that path in his youth and never knew they were there.

Coming home from our meeting with Zbyszek I drove past all the new apartment buildings being built close to us. I was very surprise to see a new food store, Biedronka, had already opened up. It is a large store and I am sure it will draw customers away from the little food stores close to our house. I am not against these big stores but hope we do not loose our little ones also in our community who will have to compete with them now.

Wczoraj jako艣 przegapi艂em pisanie. Us艂ysza艂em m贸j telefon, ale pomy艣la艂em, 偶e to ostrze偶enie, 偶e bateria ma niski poziom i nie przeczyta艂em jej wiadomo艣ci a偶 do wtorkowego poranka, kiedy Joan obudzi艂a si臋, ubra艂a i by艂a gotowa, by wyj艣膰. Wielki b艂膮d z mojej strony.

Dzisiaj by艂 dzie艅 na sprz膮tanie pokoju i zacz臋li艣my od sypialni. Tyle rupieci zosta艂o wepchni臋tych pod 艂贸偶ko, 偶e nadszed艂 czas, aby pozby膰 si臋 tego wszystkiego. C贸偶, ta chwila nadesz艂a.

Kuzyn Andrzej powiedzia艂 mi, 偶e ostatnio w Golinie wydarzy艂o si臋 co艣 ciekawego. W parku obok starego ko艣cio艂a, wzd艂u偶 艣cie偶ki, odby艂a si臋 ekshumacja zw艂ok 偶o艂nierzy niemieckich z II wojny 艣wiatowej. Wydaje si臋, 偶e kto艣 w Niemczech odkry艂, 偶e zostali oni pochowani w Golinie i zorganizowa艂 ich ekshumacj臋, a szcz膮tki odes艂ano do rodzin w Niemczech. Andrzej, kiedy by艂 m艂ody, spacerowa艂 t膮 艣cie偶k膮 i nigdy nie wiedzia艂, 偶e tam s膮.

Wracaj膮c do domu z naszego spotkania ze Zbyszkiem przejecha艂em obok wszystkich nowych budynk贸w mieszkalnych stawianych blisko nas. Zaskoczy艂o mnie, 偶e nowy sklep spo偶ywczy, Biedronka, ju偶 jest otwarty.

Not real exciting.

Monday seems like Sunday seems like Saturday, etc, etc, etc. No change in the weather yet, still lovely Autumn days good for walks like the one we took today around the neighborhood to the place where once stood many trees but now are only houses. It's like the Eagles said, "Call a place Paradise, kiss it Goodbye". It isn't Paradise but far enough out of the city to be quieter and have forest and lakes very close. In the last 3 years it has been expanding dramatically with new houses and flats. Good for local businesses, the church and the economy but not so good for someone who likes more solitude. I'm too old now to move back to the forest of Michigan.

Today we just did some domestic house cleaning,  I stidied and then we went for a walk. Not a real exciting day.

Poniedzia艂ek wydaje si臋 jak niedziela wydaje si臋 jak sobota, etcetera, etcetera, itp. To tak, jak powiedzieli Or艂y: "Nazwijcie miejsce Raj, poca艂ujcie do widzenia". W ci膮gu ostatnich 3 lat firma znacznie si臋 rozwin臋艂a dzi臋ki nowym domom i mieszkaniom. Jestem ju偶 za stary, by wr贸ci膰 do lasu Michigan.

Dzi艣 po prostu zrobili艣my domowe sprz膮tanie, schowa艂em si臋, a potem poszli艣my na spacer. To nie jest ekscytuj膮cy dzie艅.

Shortage?

An interesting conversation with a doctor this morning about the upcoming change to the health system in Poland. Starting January 1st, all prescribed medications by a doctor will be written into a central data base in the online computer using the patients pesel number or ID number. There will be no written paper prescriptions. The patient can go into any apteka(pharmacy), give his pesel or ID number and the pharmacist and look up what medications he should be getting. On the surface, that sounds good.

However, problems with this system could arise in a few areas. First, 30% of the doctors in Poland are already at the retirement age or older.  More than a few don''t know how to use a computer  and may just choose to retire rather then learn. This would deplete the amount of doctors in Poland whose numbers are already depleted.

Second, if there is a breakdown of servers or an electrical problem, it will not be possible to get the needed prescriptions on time.

Third, there are still places in Poland that do not have internet. While the idea is good, I hope these issues are resolved before it takes effect.

On yet another beautiful day, Joan and I went to Petit Paris for breakfast at 12:00. This time it was full of customers and the service was slow. Being so close to So艂acki Park, when we were finally done, we walked across the street into the park and spent about two hours walking around and watching the people go by. It was a beautiful afternoon. You can visit it also in the pictures on the right side of this blog.

Interesuj膮ca rozmowa rano z lekarzem  o zbli偶aj膮cej si臋 zmianie systemu ochrony zdrowia w Polsce. Pacjent mo偶e i艣膰 do dowolnej apteki, poda膰 PESEL albo numer identyfikacyjny, a farmaceuta b臋dzie wiedzia艂, jakie leki wyda膰. Na pierwszy rzut oka wygl膮da to dobrze.

Jednak problemy z tym systemem mog膮 pojawi膰 si臋 w kilku obszarach.

Chocia偶 pomys艂 jest dobry, mam nadziej臋, 偶e te problemy zostan膮 rozwi膮zane, zanim zacznie obowi膮zywa膰.

Tym razem restauracja by艂a pe艂na klient贸w, wi臋c d艂u偶ej czekali艣my na obs艂u偶enie. Poniewa偶 byli艣my tak blisko Parku So艂ackiego, po zjedzeniu przeszli艣my przez ulic臋 i sp臋dzili艣my w parku oko艂o dwie godziny spaceruj膮c i obserwuj膮c ludzi na ulicy. By艂o pi臋kne popo艂udnie.

Denial

In case you missed it, I put the video of why the U.S. denies Climate Change on this blog. I wanted to have some record of it for future generations.

My meeting with Radek went well today. He told me of his travels to Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Macedonia and brought a present of a hat from Serbia for me. He said I should probably not wear it if I go to Croatia again because of the past war between Serbia and Croatia. For me it  is just a hat but I understand the feeling it could bring with it for the Croatian people.

With another beautiful Autumn day, we had to take the camera and go for a nice long walk to take pictures of the changing colors in trees and shrubbery. It was just to nice to stay inside today. I can remember days like this in the forest of Michigan when Joan and I would pack a lunch and start down some trail we hadn't been on before just to see where it would go and what colors we would see. It was always magnificent.  I didn't have a good camera back in those days but I still took pictures. I;m happy that I did because although they are still in my mind, some are not so clear now. She always came to visit me at the best time of the year for the colors and was never disappointed. Of course, I always had the teepee or house prepared for her visit, staying up all night if I had to just before she arrived. It was a wonderful time together but we have had many. Now, we are in the Autumn of our years, :-) and still having a great time.

Chcia艂em mie膰 jego zapis dla przysz艂ych pokole艅.

Moje spotkanie z Radkiem posz艂o dzi艣 dobrze. Opowiedzia艂 mi o swoich podr贸偶ach do Serbii, Bu艂garii, Grecji i Macedonii i przyni贸s艂 mi prezent z Serbii. Powiedzia艂, 偶e prawdopodobnie nie b臋d臋 go nosi膰, je艣li pojad臋 do Chorwacji ponownie z powodu minionej wojny mi臋dzy Serbi膮 i Chorwacj膮.

W kolejny pi臋kny jesienny dzie艅 musieli艣my wzi膮膰 aparat i uda膰 si臋 na przyjemny d艂ugi spacer, aby zrobi膰 zdj臋cia zmieniaj膮cych si臋 kolor贸w drzew i krzew贸w. Mi艂o by艂o pozosta膰 w 艣rodku dzisiaj. Pami臋tam takie dni w lesie Michigan, kiedy Joan i ja pakowali艣my lunch i zaczynali艣my jaki艣 szlak, na kt贸rym wcze艣niej nie byli艣my, tylko po to, by zobaczy膰, gdzie p贸jdzie i jakie kolory zobaczymy. To zawsze by艂o wspania艂e. To by艂 wspania艂y czas razem, ale mieli艣my ich wiele. Teraz jeste艣my na jesieni naszych lat :-) i wci膮偶 艣wietnie si臋 bawimy.

He's back..

Thursday means food shopping day for next week. This week it was low...125PLN($34) and that included salmon fillets. It's soup time with the cooler temperatures and it usually is good for two days, alternating. For ex: Monday, Chicken soup; Tuesday, Cobb salad and Wednesday, Chicken soup. With 呕urek, Chicken, Zucchini, Mushroom, Tomato, Muligatawny, Minestrone, Spicy Peanut  and Lentil soups to choose from, I don't mind it at all. My favorite, of course, is 呕urek but Zucchini is a close second.

It was another beautiful autumn day with a temperature of 73F(18.6C). My friend, Radek, called to say he was back from his trip to Serbia and Bulgaria and so we will meet tomorrow to talk about his adventure. I've missed not talking with him these last two weeks. I got into such a habit of talking with him twice a week I felt a little void in my life when he was gone. Even with different life situations we kind of have kindred spirits.

Czwartek oznacza dzie艅 na zakup 偶ywno艣ci na przysz艂y tydzie艅. W tym tygodniu koszt by艂 niski ... 125PLN (34 USD), w tym filety z 艂ososia.

By艂 to kolejny pi臋kny, jesienny dzie艅 o temperaturze 73 ° F (18,6 ° C). Zadzwoni艂 m贸j przyjaciel Radek by powiedzie膰, 偶e wr贸ci艂 z podr贸偶y do Serbii i Bu艂garii, wi臋c spotkamy si臋 jutro, aby porozmawia膰 o jego przygodzie. Mia艂em nawyk rozmawiania z nim dwa razy w tygodniu. Poczu艂em ma艂膮 pustk臋 w moim 偶yciu, kiedy go nie by艂o. Nawet z r贸偶nymi sytuacjami 偶yciowymi jeste艣my pokrewnymi duszami.

What a day..

A beautiful autumn day and a good day to meet our new account manager in the Baltyk building. We parked underground and took the elevator to the 12th floor. There are only 13 floors and on the top one is a restaurant. Micha艂 Mazurkiewicz is a young man, around, 30 years old, and now is our manager. The meeting was mainly just to meet each other but also to tell us how to better improve our possibility of making our money work for us by using Time Deposits instead of just Savings accounts. Savings accounts only pay 0.4% interest but Time Deposit accounts pay 1.04% interest. The only thing is that Time Deposit accounts require you leave the money in for periods of time like 3, 6 9 or 12 months without taking it out. We have only had to take it out once in 11 years so that didn't seem to be a problem so we changed to Time Deposit.

The new offices of the bank are very modern with good views of the city but the level of pollution in the air is very evident above the city. The big picture in the header above this blog is Pozna艅 at 10:00 in the morning. The smog from all the cars is evident for those who say this climate change is not man-made. It was another brief reminder of problems this planet is facing with climate but I didn't dwell on it. It was still nice to see these new views. We were also pleasantly surprised to see our first account manager, Piotr, who has moved up to be the only Private manager of accounts in Pozna艅 of over 3 million PLN. We were happy for his promotion.

Being such a beautiful day and we were so close to the center, we took a nice walk to Drukarnia and had breakfast because Joan was hungry.

We met with Z at 15:00 and I told him about the Time Deposit. He advised me to check the Raiffhiesen Bank because they offered him 3.0% interest, not 1.5. I will have to do that.

Pi臋kny jesienny dzie艅 i dobry dzie艅 na spotkanie z naszym nowym doradc膮 klienta w budynku Baltyk. Zaparkowali艣my w podziemnym gara偶u i wjechali艣my wind膮 na 12 pi臋tro. Pieni膮dze musieli艣my wyp艂aci膰 tylko raz w ci膮gu 11 lat, wi臋c nie wydaje si臋, aby to by艂 problem, wi臋c zmienili艣my na Depozyt terminowy.

Mi艂o by艂o widzie膰 te nowy widok. Byli艣my r贸wnie偶 mile zaskoczeni, gdy zobaczyli艣my naszego pierwszego doradc臋 klienta Piotra, kt贸ry zosta艂 doradc膮 finansowym os贸b w Poznaniu, kt贸rych warto艣膰 kont wynosi ponad 3 milion贸w z艂otych. Byli艣my szcz臋艣liwi z jego awansu.

Skoro ju偶 by艂 taki pi臋kny dzie艅 i byli艣my tak blisko centrum, zrobili艣my przyjemny spacer do Drukarnia, gdzie zjedli艣my 艣niadanie, poniewa偶 Joan by艂a g艂odna.

O 15:00 spotkali艣my si臋 z Z. i opowiedzia艂em mu o Depozycie terminowym. Poleci艂 mi sprawdzi膰 Raiffhiesen Bank, poniewa偶 ten zaoferowa艂 mu 3,0% odsetek, a nie 1,5. B臋d臋 musia艂 to zrobi膰

Amazed!

It amazes me the comments I get by people denying the warning about climate change. How can this be? Don't they see the increase of natural disasters like tsunami's, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires and earthquakes. How can they deny the increase in the last few years? God made a mistake when he created humans, he gave them free-will. The only thing wrong with this planet it that it is inhabited by humans.

On the brighter side..........Joan needed to buy a few things at the store in order to prepare tonight's dinner, 呕urek, so we went to Piotr & Pawe艂 to buy them. It's closer to our house than Carrefour so it didn't take long to get there and back. Then it was time to turn the mattress over on the bed and change the sheets.

When we were done we listened to the latest podcast from Juan about native language teachers. He pointed out that sometimes it is better to have foreigner teaching a native language than a native teacher their own language. For example; a Spaniard who went to university to be an English teacher and had experience might be better than an Englishman with no experience teaching English. The Spaniard is prepared and has made it his profession while the English may be doing it just for the extra money. I could see his point of view. Juan's podcasts are always interesting. There are at the intermediate level so I have to listen to them several times. Plus, he speaks fast so I have to put them in my VLC player and slow down the speed. It's good for both Joan and I. The other advantage is there is a written text with them to follow along. This I can copy and translate by Google for Joan.

Zdumiewa mnie to, jakie uwagi dostaj臋 od ludzi zaprzeczaj膮cych ostrze偶eniu o zmianach klimatycznych. Jak to mo偶e by膰?

Z bardziej optymistycznej strony .......... Joan potrzebowa艂a kupi膰 kilka rzeczy w sklepie, aby przygotowa膰 偶urek na dzisiejszy obiad, wi臋c poszli艣my do Piotra i Paw艂a, aby je kupi膰. Potem nadszed艂 czas, aby obr贸ci膰 materac na 艂贸偶ku i zmieni膰 prze艣cierad艂a.

Kiedy sko艅czyli艣my, wys艂uchali艣my najnowszego podcastu Juana o nauczycielach j臋zyk贸w ojczystych. S膮 na poziomie 艣rednio zaawansowanym, wi臋c musz臋 ich s艂ucha膰 kilka razy. Poza tym m贸wi szybko, wi臋c musz臋 je umie艣ci膰 w odtwarzaczu VLC i spowolni膰 szybko艣膰 nagrania. Mog臋 go skopiowa膰 i przet艂umaczy膰 przy pomocy Google dla Joan.

12 years

When I was much younger I saw movies where scientist were saying the planet was in trouble but no one believed them The movie ended and everything was fine. Years ago I began hearing and reading reports the planet was, indeed, in trouble from emissions and was heating up. Again, no one was listening. Then there appeared the hole in the ozone layer and some people listened.  More reports from scientists appeared that stated the planet was heating up and something had to be done to stop it in order to avoid a catastrophe. Governments formed the Paris Climate Agreement in which they all agreed to reduce carbon emissions. However, even though they all signed the agreement, not all of them did. One of the biggest polluters, the United States, when it elected it's new president in 2016, Donald Trump, removed itself from the agreement.

Now the IPCC(Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the world's leading climate scientists. have warned there are only 12 years left for the planet to be kept to a maximum of 1,5C and avoid catastrophic environmental breakdown. Urgent and unprecedented changes are needed to reach the target, which is affordable and feasible although it lies at the most ambitious end of the Paris Agreement pledge to keep temperatures between 1.5C and 2C. The question is are the money-seekers. the 1%, willing to accept the changes? Will all of the 99% finally realize what is really happening and work to stop it?

It's time to split my priorities between putting a stop to the overthrow of Democracy in America by the current administration and stopping Climate Change. I'm only one person but I will do what I can. 12 years from now I could be dead but Joan's grandchildren will have to suffer the consequences of no action. Their world will be much different then the one that I knew as a youth. It is already.

Film si臋 sko艅czy艂 i wszystko by艂o w porz膮dku. Wiele lat temu zacz膮艂em s艂ysze膰 i czyta膰, 偶e planeta mia艂a problemy z emisj膮 i nagrzewa艂a si臋. Znowu nikt nie s艂ucha艂. Nast臋pnie pojawi艂a si臋 dziura w warstwie ozonowej i niekt贸rzy ludzie s艂uchali. Jeden z najwi臋kszych trucicieli, Stany Zjednoczone, kiedy wybra艂 nowego prezesa w 2016 roku, Donald Trump, usun膮艂 si臋 z porozumienia.

Teraz IPCC (Mi臋dzyrz膮dowy Zesp贸艂 ds. Zmian Klimatu), czo艂owi 艣wiatowi naukowcy zajmuj膮cy si臋 klimatem. ostrzeg艂em, 偶e pozosta艂o tylko 12 lat, aby utrzyma膰 planet臋 maksymalnie do 1,5C i unikn膮膰 katastrofalnego za艂amania 艣rodowiska. Potrzebne s膮 pilne i bezprecedensowe zmiany, aby osi膮gn膮膰 cel, kt贸ry jest przyst臋pny cenowo i mo偶liwy do zrealizowania, cho膰 jest to najbardziej ambitny cel porozumienia z Pary偶a, kt贸ry zobowi膮zuje si臋 do utrzymywania temperatur mi臋dzy 1,5 ° C a 2 ° C. Pytanie dotyczy poszukiwaczy pieni臋dzy. 1%, ch臋tny do zaakceptowania zmian?

Czas podzieli膰 moje priorytety mi臋dzy powstrzymaniem obalenia demokracji w Ameryce przez obecn膮 administracj臋 i powstrzymaniem zmian klimatycznych. Jestem tylko jedn膮 osob膮, ale zrobi臋, co b臋d臋 m贸g艂. Za 12 lat mog臋 by膰 martwy, ale wnuki Joan b臋d膮 musia艂y ponie艣膰 konsekwencje braku dzia艂ania. Ich 艣wiat b臋dzie znacznie inny ni偶 ten, kt贸ry zna艂em jako m艂ody cz艂owiek. Ju偶 jest.

Typical.

A typical slow Sunday at home studying, watching college football replays from yesterday and not doing much else.

Typowa powolna niedziela w domu studiuj膮ca, ogl膮daj膮ca powt贸rki futbolu z wczoraj i nie robi膮c du偶o wi臋cej.

Kler(Clergy)

We arrived at the Zamek about 10 minutes before the movie, Kler(Clergy) started and went into the entrance in front of 艢w. Marci艅 street, The kino(movie house) was on the first floor so we took the stair up to it. With our online tickets in hand, they were scanned and we entered, walked up to row G and sat down in seats 7 and 8. It's a small theater.

The movie began on time at 14:00. It's a story about 3 types of priest in Poland and the strength the Catholic church has here. That is not to say that all priests fit into those three types because I am sure there are more good priest than those three types but rarely are movies made about the good ones.

The film starts out showing that a few years ago, the tragic events combined the fate of the three priests. Now, on every anniversary of the catastrophe that they miraculously escaped with their lives, the clergy meet to celebrate the fact of their survival with heavy drinking. Father Lisowski is a curia worker in a big city and makes a career dreaming about working in the Vatican. The problem is that Archbishop Mordowicz, a dignitary of the Church who uses political influence to build the largest sanctuary in Poland, is in his way. The second priest, Father Trybus, is the parish priest of a rural parish. Serving in a place of poverty, he increasingly succembs to human weaknesses including having a girlfriend. The third Priest, Father Kukule is also not very successful, who-despite his fervent faith-actually loses the trust of parishioners when he is falsely accused of pedophilia.

The movies is about how these three became priests, what happened to them at the hand of priests or nuns  when they were young and how the third priest, Father Kukule, tried to expose it all publicly, only for it all to be covered up by the Catholic Church.

It has a dramatic ending which I won't tell you. We watched the movie with English subtitles if you live in the U.S. check your cinemas for it. Just remember.....it DOES NOT represent ALL priests in Poland.

Do Zamku dotarli艣my oko艂o 10 minut przed rozpocz臋ciem filmu, Kler (Duchowni) zacz臋li i weszli do wej艣cia przed 艢w. Ulica Marci艅, kino (dom filmowy) znajdowa艂o si臋 na pierwszym pi臋trze, wi臋c podeszli艣my do niego schodami. Z naszymi biletami online w r臋ku, zosta艂y zeskanowane i weszli艣my, podeszli艣my do rz臋du G i usiedli艣my na siedzeniach 7 i 8. Jest to ma艂y teatr.

Film zacz膮艂 si臋 o godzinie 14:00.

Ojciec Lisowski jest kuriarzem w du偶ym mie艣cie i robi karier臋 marz膮 o pracy w Watykanie. Drugi ksi膮dz, Ojciec Trybus, jest proboszczem wiejskiej parafii. S艂u偶膮c w miejscu ub贸stwa, coraz bardziej kieruje si臋 ludzkimi s艂abo艣ciami, w tym ma dziewczyn膮. Trzeci kap艂an, ksi膮dz Kukule, tak偶e nie odnosi wielkich sukces贸w, kt贸ry - pomimo jego 偶arliwej wiary - traci zaufanie do parafian, gdy jest fa艂szywie oskar偶any o pedofili臋.

Obejrzeli艣my film z angielskimi napisami, je艣li mieszkasz w USA, sprawd藕 swoje kina. Tylko pami臋tajcie ... 偶e to NIE reprezentuje WSZYSTKICH ksi臋偶y w Polsce.

Settled.

Very happy to tell you the money problem has been resolved. They changed the wording on the report for Joan and that was the reason for the delay in posting to our account. The other good news is the rate of exchange is $1 = 3.74 PLN today. It hasn't been that high since August. Now that this "trauma" is over, it makes me realize how dependent we our on those check from retirement. Yes, we do have a savings account we brought with us when we moved here but slowly we've been chipping away at it with our various trips to foreign countries. Our upcoming trip to Spain is one example. I no longer have a son to leave it to but Joan has two children and two grandchildren. Do we just stay home and save it for them? I don't think so.  We made this move to live this life we have left as we want to and that is what we intend to do. Her children are grown, working adults, 51 and 49 years, capable of providing for themselves and their children. If necessary, we can help. but only if necessary.

So now I am feeling much better and looking forward to the weekend. We will see the controversial Polish movie, Kler(Clergy) tomorrow, meet with a friend for an hour or two and Sunday is a free day with nothing planned yet.

Today I booked the house in Santiago and made the flight reservations to and from Alicante. The only thing to do now is arrange transportation from Alicante to Santiago. I can wait to do that. We have about 140 days until we leave.

I received a call from our account manager at our bank this afternoon telling me that he had no idea why Joan's money did not come in. He was very surprised when I told him it did. Evidently the main bank in Warsaw neglected to tell him the problem was solved. Another case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing.

Bardzo si臋 ciesz臋, 偶e problem z pieni膮dzem zosta艂 rozwi膮zany. Kolejn膮 dobr膮 wiadomo艣ci膮 jest kurs wymiany 1 USD = 3,74 PLN dzisiaj. Tak, mamy rachunek oszcz臋dno艣ciowy, kt贸ry przywie藕li艣my ze sob膮, gdy si臋 tu przeprowadzili艣my, ale powoli zacz臋li艣my go rozdrobnia膰 r贸偶nymi podr贸偶ami do innych kraj贸w. Nasza nadchodz膮ca podr贸偶 do Hiszpanii jest jednym z przyk艂ad贸w. Nie s膮dz臋. Zrobili艣my ten ruch, aby 偶y膰 tym 偶yciem, kt贸re pozostawili艣my tak, jak chcemy i to jest to, co zamierzamy zrobi膰. Jej dzieci s膮 doros艂e, pracuj膮ce osoby doros艂e, 51 i 49 lat, zdolne zapewni膰 sobie i swoim dzieciom.

Teraz czuj臋 si臋 znacznie lepiej i nie mog臋 si臋 doczeka膰 weekendu.

Dzisiaj zarezerwowa艂em dom w Santiago i zrobi艂em rezerwacje lot贸w do iz Alicante. Mog臋 na to czeka膰. Mamy oko艂o 140 dni, zanim wyjdziemy.

Kont w naszym banku, m贸wi膮c mi, 偶e nie mia艂 poj臋cia, dlaczego pieni膮dze Joanny si臋 nie pojawi艂y. By艂 bardzo zaskoczony, gdy mu powiedzia艂em, 偶e tak. Najwyra藕niej g艂贸wny bank w Warszawie nie powiedzia艂 mu, 偶e problem zosta艂 rozwi膮zany.

Explanation.

Now I can explain, a little more calmly, what I was not telling you about yesterday.

For the last 7 years, Joan and I have been receiving our Social Security checks electronically deposited in our bank in Pozna艅 at the same time on the same day, usually the 3rd of each month. Of course, we use this money to pay our bills and live on. When half of it only comes in, it is a problem, especially when you don't know why and try to find out. Joan's check did not come in.

I tried accessing her account on the SS website, put in her password, but it wouldn't accept it. I tried twice and then hit "Forgot Password". It asked for the answers to 3 questions she answered 7 years ago but she couldn't give the right answers and it blocked her account from access. It said they would mail her a temporary password in 10 days and then it would take another 30 days for a new password to be entered. That means next monrh's check would not come also.

After searching the internet, I found the Department of Federal Benefits Unit in the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw who might be able to help but they only work Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00-12:00. They handle 6 provinces in Poland plus Latvia, Estonia and a few other countries and have a phone number. That is, potentially, a lot of people to deal with. Thankfully, Today is Thursday because the Monday is a holiday.

Promptly at 9:00 I called the number and the recording told me they would answer my call in the order of the line of call-ins. I waited on the phone until 9:40 before someone answered.

I explained my problem to the lady and she said she had had other callers with the same problem.  She didn't know why it happened but would first check to see if Joan's benefits had been cancelled because she didn't fill out the last questionnaire from Social Security. She came back and said that was not the problem, Joan's benefits had not been cancelled and maybe it was a problem with the bank posting the benefit on their website. Her suggestion was to wait until Monday to see if the benefit is posted by then, if not, call her back on Tuesday and she will find out why this has happened. It seems like this is the only thing we can do for now.

Czek Joan nie wp艂yn膮艂.

Pr贸bowa艂em dwa razy, a nast臋pnie u偶y艂em opcji "Nie pami臋tam has艂a". Podano, 偶e wy艣l膮 jej tymczasowe has艂o w ci膮gu 10 dni, a nast臋pnie wprowadzenie nowego has艂a zajmie kolejne 30 dni.

Obs艂uguj膮 6 wojew贸dztw w Polsce oraz 艁otw臋, Estoni臋 i kilka innych kraj贸w i maj膮 telefon.

Wyja艣ni艂em m贸j problem a pani powiedzia艂a, 偶e mia艂a innych dzwoni膮cych z tym samym problemem. Jej sugesti膮 by艂o poczeka膰 do poniedzia艂ku, aby sprawdzi膰, czy do tego czasu zasi艂ek zostanie wys艂any, je艣li nie, zadzwoni膰 do niej we wtorek, a ona si臋 dowie, dlaczego tak si臋 sta艂o. Wygl膮da na to, 偶e to jedyna rzecz, kt贸r膮 mo偶emy teraz zrobi膰.

Wednesday

We met with Z today and talked for an hour. Cousin Amy wrote and said she would be here the last weekend in October to meet us during her trip in Europe.

There is something happening here but I will wait to see the outcome before I tell you about it. For now, I'll just say it doesn't feel good at all.

Dzisiaj spotkali艣my si臋 ze Z. i rozmawiali艣my przez godzin臋. Kuzynka Amy napisa艂a, 偶e w czasie swojej wycieczki do Europy b臋dzie tutaj w ostatni weekend pa藕dziernika, aby si臋 z nami spotka膰.

So-so day.

With Radek in Serbia, I had no meeting to study Spanish but I did get new lessons from my internet course so that saved the day. Actually, two modules with 7 lessons in each so I have new material to learn and practice. They come with audio and video of each lesson to practice listening, pronouncing and writing.

In Polish, I spoke with Mat yesterday going over past, present and future in sentences. I'm working on him to speak more English, he needs to speak in order to improve, just like me in Polish.

I am so tired of politics. This so-called FBI investigation allowed by "Orange Head" is limited enough in time and scope to give the appearance of an real investigation but it is not. It is only to make his believers and other think so. I have no doubt this Kavanaugh character will be the next Supreme Court Justice in the U.S. One step closer to dictatorship. Once there were Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar, now we have Putin, Kim Jong-un and "Orange Head". My, how the world has changed...and NOT for the better.

W艂a艣ciwie s膮 to dwa modu艂y z 7. lekcjami w ka偶dym, wi臋c mam nowy materia艂 do nauki i praktyki. Produkowane s膮 艂膮cznie z audio i wideo do ka偶dej lekcji, aby 膰wiczy膰 s艂uchanie, wymawianie i pisanie.

Wczoraj rozmawia艂em po polsku z Matem powtarzaj膮c czas przesz艂y, tera藕niejszy i przysz艂y w zdaniach. Przekonuj臋 go, aby wi臋cej m贸wi艂 po angielsku, musi m贸wi膰, aby go poprawi膰, tak jak ja po polsku.

Jestem tak zm臋czony polityk膮. To tylko sprawia, 偶e zwolennicy Trumpa i inni my艣l膮 w ten spos贸b. Nie w膮tpi臋, 偶e Kavanaugh b臋dzie kolejn膮 s臋dzi膮 S膮du Najwy偶szego w USA. O krok bli偶ej do dyktatury. Kiedy艣 byli Melchior, Kacper i Baltazar, teraz mamy Putina, Kim Jong-un i "Pomara艅czow膮 G艂ow臋".

A nothing day.

A day of doing nothing but studying. Dzie艅 nie robienia niczego poza nauk膮.
