Funeral anyone?

A funny thing happened walking through Dos Mares today. A woman speaking English in the middle of the walkway at a kiosk asked us how long we were staying in Spain. We told her we were leaving next week. She asked if we would come back and I said yes. She then said that we should plan our funeral..................yes ...........plan our funeral in Spain because if we die here the laws are very specific about what happens in that event. I couldn't believe it. There is a company that actually is talking to people about planning their funeral in Spain if they visit. Maybe they talk to Spanish people as well but talking to foreigners seems like a way to deter people from visiting. She said her company can prepare all the documents for a fee, of course, and give them to you. I asked what if you don't die in Spain and she said they would refund your money. This was, by, the funniest thing that has happened to us in Spain.

We studied all morning and in the afternoon to take a little break we took a ride on the beach road to Lo Pagan and San Pedro. It was a gray, chilly day so not many people were out. Tomorrow it will return to 18c and until we leave the forecast is between 18 and 21c. with sunny days. I had a little conversation with the neighbor across the street from us and the neighbor next door. I think I did pretty well in speaking so they understood me.

Powiedzia艂a, 偶e jej firma mo偶e oczywi艣cie przygotowa膰 wszystkie dokumenty za op艂at膮 i przekaza膰 je zainteresowanemu. To by艂a naj艣mieszniejsza rzecz, jaka przydarzy艂a si臋 nam w Hiszpanii.

Uczyli艣my si臋 przez ca艂y ranek i po po艂udniu, 偶eby zrobi膰 sobie przerw臋, pojechali艣my drog膮 wzd艂u偶  pla偶y do Lo Pagan i San Pedro. By艂 szary, ch艂odny dzie艅, wi臋c nie by艂o wielu ludzi. Jutro wr贸ci temperatura  18C i dop贸ki nie wyjedziemy, prognozuje si臋 s艂oneczne dni z temperatur膮 mi臋dzy 18 a 21C. Wydaje mi si臋, 偶e ca艂kiem dobrze m贸wi艂em, wi臋c mnie zrozumieli.

Tasmania calling.

Closer and closer. 9 days left in Spain. The weather is getting warmer, the days longer, it's 18c here and -6 in Pozna艅. If we could only stay another month. The forecast for the day we return is 6c in Pozna艅. YIKES!

Our friend, Radek, called early this morning from Tasmania where he is on vacation. The time zone that he is in is 12 hours behind us so it was 6:30 in the evening for him. Actually, he has been in Australia and New Zealand also for the last month and a half, another escapee from the Polish winter like us. We talked for about 20 minutes and agreed to meet as soon as we return to Poland to exchange stories of our travels. He is my 1 Polish friend who speaks Spanish and we meet once a week to practice, usually for 2 hours. He will return this week to -7 temperature from the 25c he has been use to.

We had our usual 3 hours of Spanish today and now I know  we will not finish the book before we leave. I will order it from Amazon and use it at home.

Bli偶ej i bli偶ej. Zosta艂o 9 dni w Hiszpanii. Pogoda si臋 poprawia, dni staj膮 si臋 d艂u偶sze, tutaj jest +18C, a w Poznaniu -6C. Gdyby艣my mogli zosta膰 tylko jeszcze jeden miesi膮c. Prognoza na dzie艅, w kt贸rym wr贸cimy, to 6C w Poznaniu. YIKES!

Strefa czasowa, w kt贸rej si臋 znajduje, to 12 godzin mi臋dzy nami, wi臋c u niego by艂a godzina 6:30.

W艂a艣ciwie by艂 w Australii i Nowej Zelandii tak偶e przez ostatnie p贸艂tora miesi膮ca, kolejny uciekinier od polskiej zimy, tak jak my. Rozmawiali艣my przez oko艂o 20 minut i zgodzili艣my si臋 spotka膰, gdy tylko wr贸cimy do Polski, aby opowiedzie膰 historie z naszych podr贸偶y. On wraca w tym tygodniu do miejsca z temperatur膮 -7C z miejsca o temperaturze 25C, do kt贸rej by艂 przyzwyczajony.
Mieli艣my dzi艣 3 godziny hiszpa艅skiego, a teraz wiem, 偶e nie sko艅czymy ksi膮偶ki, zanim wyjdziemy. Zam贸wi臋 j膮 w Amazonie i wykorzystam w domu.

AHHHHH...Calamari.

The day of rest...so we did. We slept until 11:00, got up, got dressed and drove to La  Manga for lunch instead of breakfast. Joan had seafood soup, a bit salty but good and I had my calamari. To drink we had coffee. We sat in the sunlight for a little while then went a little further to Cabo de Palos. There in El Pez Rojo we had tiramisu and coffee. The sun was in and out of a big cloud and it was a bit breezy  and not quite so hot like the last time we were there. We only stayed there for 45 minutes. Being Sunday, all the restaurants were full of people.

We came back home about 16:00 and Joan put in a load of clothes to wash. There are 2 clothes lines behind the house where we will hang the clothes to dry. The sun does hit the back of the house in the afternoon and tomorrow will be like today, sunny with a high of 18c.

Dzi艣 niedziela, dzie艅 odpoczynku..tak zrobili艣my. Spali艣my do 11:00, wysali艣my, ubrali艣my si臋 i polechli艣my do La Manga na obiad zamiast 艣niadania. Joan zam贸wila zup臋 z owoc贸w morza, nieco slona, ale dobra, ja zjad艂em kalmary. Do picia mieli艣my kaw臋. Usiedli艣my w s艂o艅ca na chwil臋 potem poszli艣my troch臋 dalej do Cabo de Palos. Tam w El Pez Rojo zkedlimy tiramisu i wypilimy kaw臋. Sonce to si€ pojawialo, to znika艂o za chmurami i by艂o nieco wietrznie, nie tak gor膮nco jak ostatnim razem, gdy tam byli艣my. Byli艣my tam tylko przez 45 minut. W niedziele, wsystkie restauracje sa pelne ludzie.

Wr贸cili艣my do domu o 16:00 i Joan wstawi艂a pranie. Za domem s膮 sznury do wieszania bielizny, gdzie powiesimy ubrania do wyschniecia.

Solo estuvimos all铆 por 45 minutos.

Last night, Friday, we went to our second meeting of the language club in Los Narejos. The meeting starts in Cafeteria Isidro where we sit and talk for an hour or two and then go to a Chinese restaurant for dinner. It was no different tonight except that here were more people than last week.

We followed Esther to the Chinese restaurant  and we all sat at a long table. There were 16 of us in total. I had 2 very helpful Spanish people on either side of me who were very kind to correct my mistakes in speaking Spanish. Joan had 1 Spanish person and 1 English person but still prefers to speak in English.

The restaurant was very nice. It served a lot of food for the price you paid. For example; an appetizer. 2 main dishes, dessert, wine or water and an after dinner drink cost 7.50EU($9.25)(31PLN) That's very cheap. The people in the club are very friendly and always ready and willing to help you if you want to improve your speaking. The main thing is you have to try and speak. It doesn't matter how many mistakes you make but you have to speak. I had Antonio on my right side and he said he had been to Poland and he liked the country and people very much. Cari was on my left and she was so helpful in correcting me and teaching me a few new words. She gave me her email address so I could connect her to my blog.

Zesz艂ej nocy, w pi膮tek, poszli艣my na nasze drugie spotkanie klubu j臋zykowego w Los Narejos. Nie inaczej by艂o dzi艣 w nocy, tyle 偶e tutaj by艂o wi臋cej os贸b ni偶 w zesz艂ym tygodniu.

Poszli艣my za Esther do chi艅skiej restauracji i wszyscy siedzieli艣my przy d艂ugim stole. By艂o nas w sumie 16 os贸b.

Restauracja by艂a bardzo mi艂a. Na przyk艂ad; przystawka. 2 dania g艂贸wne, deser, wino lub woda i nap贸j po obiedzie kosztuje 7,50EU (9,25 $) (31 PLN) To bardzo tanie. Ludzie w klubie s膮 bardzo przyja藕ni i zawsze gotowi i ch臋tni do pomocy, je艣li chcesz poprawi膰 sw贸j spos贸b m贸wienia. Najwa偶niejsze, 偶e musisz spr贸bowa膰 m贸wi膰. Nie ma znaczenia, ile b艂臋d贸w pope艂ni艂e艣, ale musisz m贸wi膰. Cari by艂a po mojej lewej stronie i by艂a bardzo pomocna w poprawianiu mnie i uczeniu mnie kilku nowych s艂贸w.

2 to go.

2 weeks and we return to Poland. I have mixed feelings about it. I would like to stay here and continue making the progress I have in Spanish but Spanish won't help me in Poland. It is far more important for me to speak Polish.I haven't made the progress in Polish in all the time I have been here as I have the short time I have been studying Spanish. Yes, Spanish is very similar to English and that makes it easier. I haven't spoken Polish in 7 weeks and I know I have forgotten some of it. It will be good to be back there and using the language again. Our days and nights here in Spain and been filled with studying and a little traveling. It was rare to be home by 7 or 8 in the evening.

Carmelo came today with another big bag of oranges, maybe about 50. We have enough to keep us in fresh orange juice until we leave.

It started out all cloudy but by 11:00 the sun came shining through and the clouds went away. Check off another sunny day in Santiago. I think I have counted 5 gray days since we have been here. We have 5 more lessons with Ann and 4 more chapters in the lesson book before we leave. I think we might finish it.

2 tygodnie i wracamy do Polski. Dobrze b臋dzie wr贸ci膰 tam i ponownie u偶ywa膰 j臋zyka. Tutaj w Hiszpanii , nasze dni i noce i by艂y pe艂ne nauki i troch臋 podr贸偶y. Rzadko zdarza si臋 by膰 w domu o 7 lub 8 wieczorem.

Carmelo przyjecha艂 dzisiaj z kolejn膮 du偶膮 torebk膮 pomara艅czy, mo偶e oko艂o 50 sztuk. Mamy do艣膰, by wystarczy艂o 艣wie偶ego soku pomara艅czowego, dop贸ki nie wyjdziemy.

Odfajkowali艣my kolejny s艂oneczny dzie艅 w Santiago. My艣l臋, 偶e doliczy艂em 5 szarych dni, odk膮d tu jeste艣my. Mamy jeszcze 5 lekcji z Ann i 4 kolejne rozdzia艂y w ksi膮偶ce, zanim wyjdziemy. My艣l臋, 偶e mo偶emy to sko艅czy膰.

La Manga

The pictures of the parade were from the Carnival in Santiago to celebrate the beginning of Lent. It is the most colorful parade in the region of Murcia. You can read more about it here. https://murciatoday.com/18th-february-grand-carnival-parade-in-santiago-de-la-ribera-on-the-shore-of-the-mar-menor_289596-a.html?a=67GwLk.

I woke up early today, 8:30, because I had an appointment with Enrique to have my hair cut and beard trimmed at 9:30. It's only a 5 minute walk there so I had no problem being on time.

I told him I wanted both hair and beard shortened this time. First he took his scissors and worked on shortening my hair, then trimmed my eyebrows and moustache. Next, for my beard he used an electric shaver and then applied a liquid soap to the parts of my face and neck where he would use a straight razor. A warm towel was applied to my face for a short time and then I was ready to be shaved. When he was done he did a little more trimming of my hair and beard, blew off the excess hair from my clothes and had me sit in another chair.

An assistant came over, put an apron over my clothes, combed my hair and also blew off excess hair. When she was done, Enrique applied an oil to my beard and an aftershave to my face.

After Carmelo left on this 19+c sunny day, we drove to La Manga because I wanted to have calamari romana for lunch.  Unfortunately that restaurant was closed. We drove a little farther on the beach road, found another harbor, parked in front of the Gran Torino restaurant(also closed) and walked downhill to the harbor. To our joyous surprise there were 5 restaurants open. We chose El Pez Rojo in Cabo de Palos because it had a second level outside overlooking the sea. We took a table by the guard rail and had a magnificent view. Joan had a Mediterranean salad and tiramisu with coffee and I had calamari romana with coffee.  We stayed as long as we could admiring the view and returned home about 18:00.

Zdj臋cia z parady pochodzi艂y z Karnawa艂u w Santiago z okazji Wielkiego Postu. To najbardziej kolorowa parada w regionie Murcji. Mo偶esz przeczyta膰 wi臋cej na ten temat tutaj. https://murciatoday.com/18th-february-grand-carnival-parade-in-santiago-de-la-ribera-on-the-shore-of-t-mar-menor_289596-a.html?a=67GwLk.

Powiedzia艂em mu, 偶e tym razem chc臋 skr贸ci膰 w艂osy i brod臋. Najpierw wzi膮艂 no偶yczki i pracowa艂 nad skr贸ceniem moich w艂os贸w, potem przyci膮艂 moje brwi i w膮sy.

Niestety ta restauracja by艂a zamkni臋ta. Pojechali艣my nieco dalej drog膮  w kierunku pla偶y, znale藕li艣my inny port, zaparkowali艣my przed restauracj膮 Gran Torino (r贸wnie偶 zamkni臋t膮) i zeszli艣my w d贸艂 do portu. Ku naszej rado艣ci  5 restauracji by艂o otwartych. Wybrali艣my El Pez Rojo, poniewa偶 mia艂a drugi poziom na zewn膮trz z widokiem na morze. Wzi臋li艣my stolik przy relingu i mieli艣my wspania艂y widok. Joan mia艂a 艣r贸dziemnomorsk膮 sa艂atk臋 i tiramisu z kaw膮 i ja mia艂em calamari romana z kaw膮. Zostali艣my tak d艂ugo, jak mogli艣my podziwia膰 widok i wr贸cili艣my do domu oko艂o 18:00.

Santiago parade.

Last evening many cars were parking around where we live and people were walking the short distance to the main street where the parade was to be held at 17:00. I put on my Spring coat, took my camera and went to take pictures. I thought it would only take about 20 minutes. I was wrong.

The avenue was setup/divided with 3 large sound systems at the beginning, middle and end. I went to where the parade would begin thinking I would get the best pictures there with my medium range lens. However there were too many people already there so I walked to the end and the only really good spot was right in front of the sound system. I did have a good view of the paraders coming right at me  but the sound was deafening. After a short time I took some tissue and stuffed it into my ears so I wouldn't go deaf.

The parade lasted about 1 1/2 hours on a chilly day and I imagine the women and children were somewhat cold in the costumes they were wearing. There was a good turnout of people along the avenue and everybody enjoyed the parade. It was followed by a street party that lasted for a few more hours. If it had been warmer I'm sure it would have gone on longer.

Carmelo came today, as usual. I tell you, we learn so much from him that is not in books. For example, ways of saying things in Spain that books tell you to say it in another way. It may be grammatically correct but it is just not said that way in Spain. Without having him, we would not no the difference. He is invaluable to us. We are going to miss our face to face meetings. I hope our Skype connection works when we are back in Poland.

Ostatniego wieczoru wiele samochod贸w parkowa艂o w pobli偶u miejsca, w kt贸rym mieszkamy, a ludzie pokonywali niewielk膮 odleg艂o艣膰 do g艂贸wnej ulicy, na kt贸rej o 17:00 mia艂a odby膰 si臋 parada. W艂o偶y艂em wiosenny p艂aszcz, wzi膮艂em aparat i poszed艂em robi膰 zdj臋cia. My艣la艂em, 偶e zajmie to oko艂o 20 minut. Myli艂em si臋.

Aleja zosta艂a rozplanowana/podzielona na 3 du偶e punkty nag艂o艣nienia: na pocz膮tku, na 艣rodku i na ko艅cu. Poszed艂em tam, gdzie parada powinna si臋 zacz膮膰 my艣l膮c, 偶e stamt膮d zrobi臋 najlepsze zdj臋cia z moim obiektywem 艣redniej klasy. Jednak by艂o ju偶 za du偶o ludzi, wi臋c poszed艂em do ko艅ca i jedyne naprawd臋 dobre miejsce by艂o tu偶 przed g艂o艣nikami. Po kr贸tkim czasie wzi膮艂em chusteczki higieniczne i wepchn膮艂em je sobie do uszu, 偶eby nie og艂uchn膮膰.

Parada, w ten ch艂odny dzie艅 trwa艂a oko艂o 1 1/2 godziny i wyobra偶am sobie, 偶e kobiety i dzieci w kostiumach, kt贸re mieli na sobie by艂y nieco zmarzni臋te. Frekwencja na ulicy dopisa艂a i wszyscy cieszyli si臋 parad膮. Potem odby艂a si臋 impreza uliczna, kt贸ra trwa艂a jeszcze kilka godzin. Gdyby by艂o cieplej, jestem pewien, 偶e trwa艂oby to d艂u偶ej.

Bez niego nie zauwa偶yliby艣my 偶adnej r贸偶nicy. On jest dla nas nieoceniony. B臋dzie nam brakowa膰 naszych spotka艅 twarz膮 w twarz. Mam nadziej臋, 偶e nasze po艂膮czenie przez  Skype dzia艂a, gdy wr贸cimy do Polski.

Caravaca.

A late start today because there was no need to rush. At 12:30 with the temperature already at 21c and full sun in an ocean blue sky, we set out for Caravaca de la Cruz. It was a 1 hour 10 minute drive to the mountain town and we arrived just as most places were closing for siesta.

Maneuvering through the narrow streets I climbed up the hill to where the fortress/Basilica stood atop the hill overlooking the city. Naturally, being 14:00, it was closed and wouldn't reopen until 16:00. We parked the car next to it and Joan sat on a bench while I walked around it taking pictures of the outside. About 14:45 we drove down the hill, found a restaurant that was open and had lunch.

Lunch was more like dinner with the amount of food we had. Tapas, calamari(but not fired like I like) bruschetta. pork, potatoes, mushrooms, broccoli, clams and coffee. By the time we were done eating it was 17:00 so we went back to the Basilica to go inside of it.

It was open and it is the smallest Basilica I've seen but very nice.  Attached to it are the Cloisters and a museums.

O 12:30 z temperatur膮 ju偶 21 C i pe艂nym s艂o艅cem na b艂臋kitnym niebie, wyruszyli艣my do Caravaca de la Cruz. To by艂o 1 godziny 10 minut jazdy do g贸rskiego miasta i dotarli艣my tak jak wi臋kszo艣膰 miejsc by艂o zamykanie na drzemk臋.

Oczywi艣cie, b臋d膮c w stanie 14:00, by艂a ona zamkni臋ta i nie otwiera艂a si臋 ponownie do 16:00. Zaparkowali艣my samoch贸d obok, a Joan usiad艂a na 艂awce, a ja obszed艂em j膮, robi膮c zdj臋cia z zewn膮trz. O 14:45 zjechali艣my ze wzg贸rza, znale藕li艣my restauracj臋, kt贸ra by艂a otwarta i zjad艂a lunch.

Obiad by艂 bardziej jak obiad z ilo艣ci膮 jedzenia, kt贸re mieli艣my. Kiedy sko艅czyli艣my je艣膰, by艂o 17:00, wi臋c wr贸cili艣my do bazyliki, aby wej艣膰 do 艣rodka.

Do niego do艂膮czone s膮 Cloisters i museo

Good evening.

Yes, it was. At 19:30 we drove to Los Narejos to find the Cafeteria Isidro where the group of people met to exchange languages. It's a small cafe with about 10 tables and I found 3 people sitting there. I asked if they were the group and they said they were part of it, all Spanish. We introduced ourselves and began speaking in Spanish and they corrected us as we spoke. Unfortunately, I did more speaking than Joan, In a few minutes 2 more people came, both Spanish also and then 2 English people. We talked for about 1 1/2 hours and then they wanted to go for dinner but Joan was tired so we came home.

I really liked the atmosphere of the group and the willingness to correct my mistakes when speaking. I was able to communicate most of the time and did learn several new words and phrases. We will go back next week for sure.

Tomorrow is anothe sunny, 21+c day so we are going to Caravaca de la Cruz, a town 1 hour drive to the north of us. The beautiful town of Caravaca de la Cruz is located to the northwest of the Murcia province. In the houses that extend around the castle there are beautiful examples of the Murcian Renaissance. One of the main features is the castle that rises up above Caravaca's urban layout. It is of Muslim origin and was extended in the 15th century, In addition, Caravaca de la Cruz is the fifth holy city of the world after Santiago de Compostela, Santo Toribio de Li茅bana, Rome and Jerusalem.

Tak, by艂o. O 19:30 pojechali艣my do Los Narejos, aby znale藕膰 kafeteri臋 Isidro, gdzie grupa ludzi spotyka艂a si臋, by wymienia膰 j臋zyki. Zapyta艂em, czy s膮 grup膮 i powiedzieli, 偶e s膮 jej cz臋艣ci膮, wszyscy s膮 Hiszpanami. Przedstawili艣my si臋 i zacz臋li艣my m贸wi膰 po hiszpa艅sku, a oni poprawili nas, gdy rozmawiali艣my. Niestety, zrobi艂em mor mow臋 ni偶 Joan, W ci膮gu kilku minut przyby艂o 2 wi臋cej os贸b, zar贸wno hiszpa艅skich, jak i 2 angielskich. Rozmawiali艣my przez oko艂o 1 1/2 godziny, a potem chcieli i艣膰 na kolacj臋, ale Joan by艂a zm臋czona, wi臋c wr贸cili艣my do domu.

Bardzo podoba艂a mi si臋 atmosfera grupy i ch臋膰 poprawiania moich b艂臋d贸w podczas m贸wienia. Uda艂o mi si臋 komunikowa膰 przez wi臋kszo艣膰 czasu i nauczy艂em si臋 kilku nowych s艂贸w i zwrot贸w. Na pewno wr贸cimy dalej.

Jutro jest s艂onecznie, 21 + c dzie艅, wi臋c jedziemy do Caravaca de la Cruz, miasta 1 godziny jazdy na p贸艂noc od nas. Pi臋kne miasto Caravaca de la Cruz znajduje si臋 na p贸艂nocny zach贸d od prowincji Murcia. W domach rozci膮gaj膮cych si臋 wok贸艂 zamku znajduj膮 si臋 pi臋kne przyk艂ady renesansu murackiego. Jedn膮 z g艂贸wnych cech jest zamek, kt贸ry wznosi si臋 ponad uk艂ad urbanistyczny Caravaca. Pochodzi z muzu艂ma艅skiego pochodzenia i zosta艂 rozbudowany w XV wieku.

Joan's Day

Joan had an excellent day. I woke up at 9:00 and went to the confiteria to buy 2 bocadillos(sandwiches) for our trip the the guns. She woke up at 10:00 and by 11:00 was ready to go. It was a beautiful day, full sun, not a cloud in the sky and the temperature already at 20c. She took her lining out of her jacket and then didn't even wear the jacket because it was too warm on the mountain where the guns were. She was amazed at the size of the guns even though she had seen them in my pictures. We walked around the area for about 2 hours and then started down the mountain to Cartagena. Only a short distance driven, I pulled over at a scenic spot and we stopped to have a little lunch of our sandwiches with water.

Once we arrived in Cartagena, we parked underground and sat in a nice cafe with the sun in our face drinking coffee and watching the people go by. I think if we sat there for a couple of hours we would have gotten a suntan. Going back to the car, Joan made some new friends.(See the pictures)

About 17:00 we made the 20 minute trip back home, decided to have dinner on Lo Pagan, a town next to us, and drove the 5 minutes along the beach road to it. We weren't having any luck finding a restaurant until I turned around and discovered a Chinese restaurant open. We ate dinner there. They gave us so much food we had to bring 2 boxes of food home with us.

It was a good day for Joan.

Joan mia艂a wspania艂y dzie艅. Obudzi艂a si臋 o 10:00, a przed 11.00 by艂a gotowa do wyj艣cia. To by艂 pi臋kny dzie艅 z pe艂nym s艂o艅cem, 偶adnej chmury na niebie i z temperatur膮 dochodz膮c膮 do + 20c. By艂a zdumiona ich wielko艣ci膮 , mimo 偶e widzia艂a je na moich zdj臋ciach. Spacerowali艣my po okolicy przez oko艂o 2 godziny, a nast臋pnie ruszyli艣my w d贸艂 do Cartageny.

Gdy przybyli艣my do Cartageny, zaparkowali艣my w podziemnym gara偶u i usiedli艣my w przyjemnej kawiarni ze s艂o艅cem 艣wiec膮cym nam w twarz, pij膮c kaw臋 i obserwuj膮c przechodz膮cych ludzi. My艣l臋, 偶e gdyby艣my siedzieli tam przez kilka godzin, z艂apaliby艣my opalenizn臋. Wracaj膮c do samochodu, Joan pozna艂a nowych przyjaci贸艂 (zobacz zdj臋cia)

Oko艂o 17:00 przejechali艣my ok 20 minut powrotn膮 drog膮 do domu, kiedy postanowili艣my zje艣膰 kolacj臋 w Lo Pagan, mie艣cie obok nas, i pojechali艣my 5 minut drog膮 wzd艂u偶 pla偶y. Nie mieli艣my szcz臋艣cia aby znale藕膰 restauracji, dop贸ki nie odwr贸ci艂em si臋 i nie odkry艂em otwartej chi艅skiej restauracji. Tam zjedli艣my obiad. Dali nam tak du偶e porcje, 偶e musieli艣my przywie藕膰 2 pude艂ka jedzenia do domu.

To by艂 dobry dzie艅 dla Joanny.

El dia libre.

Yes, a free day. We have been studying EVERY day since we arrived here and I thought we needed a little break. Joan really liked the Bateria  pictures and wanted to see the place in person. Tomorrow it will be 21+c and sunny all day so I thought it would be the perfect day for yet another return to that place. I know she will love the experience of the drive up the mountain with it's panoramic views and then to the guns. We can spend the whole day exploring the area, the other gun emplacement and then go to Cartagena for the rest of the day.

For the first time in more years than I can remember I have the telephone number of a young Spanish woman. Joan and I went to our usual confiteria(sweet shop) but all the tables were taken so we went to our second choice, Tomas. Inside were only a young man and woman and we took a table close to them. They spoke in Spanish but were also practicing a dialogue in English. They were making mistakes in pronunciation and sentence structure so I politely offered my assistance. They were thrilled to have a native speaker to help them. Their dialogue was between a hotel clerk and a tourist who was asking about information where to eat and what to visit. After they were done the young woman, Esther, asked where we were from and we told her. We also said we were in Spain to improve our Spanish. She and her friend are from Santiago, attending the official English school here and taking an examination tonight on the dialogue.

She said that each Friday at 19:30 she goes to Los Narejos( a small town, not far) to a bar where people of different nationalities gather to exchange and help each other with their new languages. She said it lasts until 21:00 and then they all go to a Chinese restaurant for dinner and continue the exchange of languages. She invited Joan and I to join them and gave me her telephone number. That is how I got her number.  We are looking forward to seeing her again Friday night.

Tak, wolny dzie艅. Uczyli艣my si臋 KA呕DEGO dnia, odk膮d tu przyjechali艣my i my艣l臋, 偶e potrzebujemy troch臋 przerwy. Joan bardzo polubi艂a zdj臋cia Baterii i chce zobaczy膰 to miejsce osobi艣cie. Jutro b臋dzie +21C i s艂onecznie przez ca艂y dzie艅, wi臋c pomy艣la艂em, 偶e b臋dzie to idealny dzie艅 na powr贸t do tego miejsca. Mo偶emy tam sp臋dzi膰 ca艂y dzie艅 zwiedzaj膮c okolic臋, i inne stanowisko armat, a nast臋pnie uda膰 si臋 do Kartageny na reszt臋 dnia.

Po raz pierwszy od wielu lat, wi臋cej ni偶 pami臋tam, mam numer telefonu m艂odej Hiszpanki. Joan i ja poszli艣my do naszej confiteria (sklep ze s艂odko艣ciami), ale wszystkie stoliki by艂y zaj臋te, wi臋c poszli艣my do naszego drugiego miejsca, do Tomas. Wewn膮trz by艂 tylko m艂ody m臋偶czyzna i kobieta, a my usiedli艣my przy  stoliku blisko nich. Kiedy zako艅czyli rozm贸wki, m艂oda kobieta o imieniu Esther zapyta艂a, sk膮d jeste艣my, a my jej odpowiedzieli艣my. Powiedzieli艣my tak偶e, 偶e jeste艣my w Hiszpanii, aby udoskonala膰 hiszpa艅ski. Ona i jej przyjaciel s膮 z Santiago, ucz臋szczaj膮 tam do oficjalnej angielskiej szko艂y i dzisiejszego wieczoru bior膮 udzia艂 w egzaminie z tego dialogu.

Powiedzia艂a, 偶e w ka偶dy pi膮tek o 19:30 udaje si臋 do Los Narejos (ma艂ego miasteczka, niedaleko st膮d) do baru, w kt贸rym gromadz膮 si臋 ludzie r贸偶nych narodowo艣ci, aby wymienia膰 si臋 i pomaga膰 sobie nawzajem w obcych  j臋zykach. Powiedzia艂a, 偶e spotkanie trwa do 21:00, a potem wszyscy id膮 do chi艅skiej restauracji na kolacj臋 i kontynuuj膮 „wymian臋 j臋zyk贸w”. Zaprosi艂a mnie i Joan do przy艂膮czenia si臋 do nich i poda艂a mi sw贸j numer telefonu. Tak dosta艂em jej numer. Z niecierpliwo艣ci膮 czekamy na ni膮 w pi膮tek wieczorem.

Mistakes

A little warmer today, 17c. Carmelo came over at 12:15 and we spent 2 1/4 hours working together before he had to leave. I'm getting a lot from him that I wouldn't out of a book. He is also pointing out mistakes in the Spanish course we have from Marcus which doesn't make me too happy. Today I gave him about 23 sentences that I had to translate int o Spanish. The Spanish translations of Marcus were below the sentences and some of them were wrong. I know that Marcus is not using Spain as used in Spain properly so that is the reason.

We were out this afternoon without my camera and I missed pictures of  the sunset. I have to remember to check the time of sunsets and make sure I'm in the right place to take some pictures. What I did see was beautiful, take my word on it.

I can't believe we have only 3 weeks left here. The time is passing quickly. Probably because so much time is spent studying and not too much traveling to visit places. I wouldn't change it, that's why we came here.

Dzisiaj troch臋 cieplej, 17C. Carmelo przyszed艂 o 12:15 i sp臋dzili艣my 2 1/4 godziny razem pracuj膮c, zanim musia艂 wyj艣膰. Dzisiaj da艂em mu oko艂o 23 zda艅, kt贸re musia艂em przet艂umaczy膰 na hiszpa艅ski. Hiszpa艅skie t艂umaczenia  Marcusa by艂y poni偶ej tych zda艅 i niekt贸re z nich by艂y b艂臋dne.

Dzi艣 po po艂udniu wyszli艣my bez mojego aparatu fotograficznego i przegapi艂em zdj臋cia zachodu s艂o艅ca. Musz臋 pami臋ta膰, aby sprawdzi膰 czas zachod贸w s艂o艅ca i upewni膰 si臋, 偶e jestem we w艂a艣ciwym miejscu, aby zrobi膰 kilka zdj臋膰. To, co widzia艂em, by艂o pi臋kne, uwierz mi na s艂owo.

Nie mog臋 uwierzy膰, 偶e pozosta艂y nam tylko 3 tygodnie. Czas szybko mija. Nie zmieni艂bym tego, dlatego tutaj przyjechali艣my.

Future

A normal Monday. 1 1/2 hours with Carmelo and then 1 1/2 hours with Ann doing our Spanish lessons.

Looking at the weather forecast for the week I see that Thursday it will be 20+c and sunny all day so I am going to take Joan to the Batteria to see the big guns and the magnificent views along the way. The pictures I took are not enough for her to know the majesty of this place and she would like to experience it in person. We will spend some time there and then on the way back stop in Cartagena for a nice dinner. We have only been out to a restaurant once to eat, the rest of the time Joan has prepared all of the meals at home. It's way past time she had a break from cooking.

This week it is also Festival time in Santiago with various activities taking place every day this week. The big parade will be on Sunday.  Of course it will be nothing to compare to the festival in Aguilas but we will go anyway. I suppose it will be like comparing the May 3rd parade in Pozna艅 to the one in Chicago. Chicago is by far the winner as is Aguilas.

We have talked about our progress in Spanish and our determined to continue when we return to Poland. With the help of Carmelo on Skype it will make it easier. For me it is a little different because I still need much work in Polish and it takes more effort than Spanish. However, I cannot give up on it. We live in Poland, I should speak the language. It is that simple.

Normalny poniedzia艂ek. 1 1/2 godziny z Carmelo, a potem 1 1/2 godziny z Ann robi膮c膮 z nami hiszpa艅ski.

Zdj臋cia, kt贸re zrobi艂em, nie s膮 wystarczaj膮ce, by mog艂a pozna膰 majestat tego miejsca i chcia艂aby osobi艣cie tego do艣wiadczy膰. Sp臋dzimy tam troch臋 czasu, a potem w drodze powrotnej zatrzymamy si臋 w Cartagena na mi艂y obiad. Ju偶 dawno mia艂a przerw臋 w gotowaniu.

W tym tygodniu odbywa si臋 r贸wnie偶 festiwal w Santiago z r贸偶nymi aktywno艣ciami maj膮cymi miejsce ka偶dego dnia w tym tygodniu. Wielka parada odb臋dzie si臋 w niedziel臋.

Rozmawiali艣my o naszych post臋pach w j臋zyku hiszpa艅skim i zdecydowali艣my si臋 kontynuowa膰 nauk臋, gdy wr贸cimy do Polski. Z pomoc膮 Carmelo na Skype b臋dzie to 艂atwiejsze. Dla mnie wygl膮da to troch臋 inaczej, poniewa偶 wci膮偶 potrzebuj臋 pracowa膰 nad polskim, a to wymaga  wi臋cej wysi艂ku ni偶 przy hiszpa艅skim. Jednak nie mog臋 tego porzuci膰. Mieszkamy w Polsce, powinienem m贸wi膰 w tym j臋zyku. To takie proste.

La Manga

Sometimes my server here in Spain tells me my blog cannot be found but if I keep trying eventually it appears. You might have the same problem.

Today was suppose to be our day to go to Aguilas to see the festival but things changed. This Chapter 7 has so much homework with idioms and the irregular verb "to go" that Joan had still not completed it. We came to Spain for 2 reasons, to escape the Polish winter and to study Spanish. We are doing quite well in our studies so we thought it was more important for us to work on Chapter 7 instead of taking the time for the festival. All of the morning we worked on it and then at 13:00 we stopped and drove to La Manga, a place recommended by Carmelo. It was only a short drive and we were there by 13:30.

La Manga is a peninsula across the bay from where we live. It is mainly a tourist location with the bay on one sid臋 and the sea on the other. You'll find many restaurants, hotel, pubs, rooms and everything for the tourist. We stopped at one of the harbors where w parked our car and went for a walk. QUE BONITA DIA! What a beautiful day! I wore a Spring jacket and was still too warm. We walked to an outside restaurant filled with people and had a little afternoon snack. Joan had salad, tiramisu and coffee. I had my most favorite food of Spain, calamari. That is squid, fried in flour with fresh squeezed lemon juice. It was absolutely fantastico.

After our little snack we drove to the end of the peninsula to see the light house and look across the bay to Santiago where we are living now. Now Joan is working on Chapter 7.

Czasami m贸j serwer tutaj w Hiszpanii m贸wi mi, 偶e nie mo偶e znalez膰 mojego bloga, ale gdy ponawiam pr贸b臋, w ko艅cu mu si臋 udaje. Mo偶esz mie膰 ten sam problem.

Dzi艣 mieli艣my jecha膰 do Aguilas, zobaczy膰 festiwal, ale sytuacja si臋 zmieni艂a. W rozdziale 7 by艂o tyle pracy domowej z idiom贸w i nieregularnego czasownika „i艣膰”, 偶e Joan wci膮偶 go nie sko艅czy艂a. Przyjechali艣my do Hiszpanii z 2 powod贸w, aby uciec przed polsk膮 zim膮 i by uczy膰 si臋 hiszpa艅skiego. Ca艂e rano pracowali艣my nad nim, a nast臋pnie, o godzinie 13:00 pojechali艣my do La Manga, miejsca polecanego przez Carmelo. By艂o to tylko kilka minut jazdy i byli艣my tam na 13:30.

La Manga to p贸艂wysep po drugiej stronie zatoki, gdzie mieszkamy. Znajduje si臋 tu wiele restauracji, hoteli, pub贸w, pokoj贸w do wynaj臋cia, wszystkiego dla turyst贸w. Zatrzymali艣my si臋 w jednym z port贸w, gdzie w zaparkowali艣my samoch贸d i poszli艣my na spacer. QUE BONITA DIA! Jaki Pi臋kny dzie艅! Mia艂em wiosenn膮 kurtk臋 i by艂o mi za ciep艂o. Weszli艣my do restauracji znajduj膮cej si臋 na dworze, wype艂nionej lud藕mi i zjedli艣my ma艂y podwieczorek. Joan zjad艂a sa艂atk臋, tiramisu i kaw臋. Ja zam贸wi艂em moje ulubione hiszpa艅skie danie, calamari. Czyli kalmary, sma偶one w m膮ce, ze 艣wie偶o wyciskanym sokiem z cytryny. To by艂o absolutnie fantastico.

Return to Batteria

Well, it was an excellent morning, I woke up at 6 but laid in bed until 7:30 and then got ready for Carmelo to arrive at 8:00, which he did. He drove  past Cartagena to Campillo de Adentro where we took the same road Joan and I took last week. To my surprise, when we reached the parking lot where we were last week he told me it was only the parking for the road to the antennas of the Batteria. The road that continued was the actual road to the Batteria but I didn't know that last week and so I turned around and went home.

This time we continued on the road and came to the parking lot very close to the Batteria, only a short distance walk downhill and we were at the beginning of the complex. To say the view of the bay on the left with the mountains in the background was beautiful would be an injustice. Even the pictures I took cannot express the scenery well. In this case, a picture does not equal a thousand words, only being here is the answer. Similar to the Plitwicie National Park in Croatia, words or pictures are not enough.

The first thought I had was about the incredible amount of work it took to build the road up the mountain by hand in the 1920's and then transport all the rocks, stones and cement it took to make the buildings. I'm sure a few men must have died along the way.

The building are built in a castle style and the guns are mounted on the very top. Ah, the guns. Truly unbelievable without seeing them in person. They are massive. Imagine a gun so big that it shoots a 1 ton shell(bullet)56km(35 miles). That is a BIG gun. We spent about 1 1/2 hours there and started back home but stop half way down the mountain to have bocadillos(sandwiches) and some water. Carmelo's wife had prepared them for us before he came to pick me up. That was nice of her.

It didn't take as long as I thought it would for the trip and on the way we passed a lot of trees with pink or white flowers. Carmelo told me they were almond trees and the Murcia region was the third largest producer of almonds in Spain.

It was an excellent morning.

C贸偶, to by艂 doskona艂y poranek. Jecha艂 przez Kartagin臋 do Campillo de Adentro, t膮 sam膮 drog膮, kt贸r膮 Joan i ja podr贸偶owali艣my w zesz艂ym tygodniu. Ku mojemu zaskoczeniu, gdy dotarli艣my na parking, gdzie byli艣my w zesz艂ym tygodniu, powiedzia艂 mi, 偶e to tylko parking na drodze do anten Batterii. Droga, kt贸ra prowadzi艂a dalej by艂a rzeczywist膮 drog膮 do Batterii, ale nie wiedzia艂em tego w ubieg艂ym tygodniu, a wi臋c wtedy zawr贸cili艣my i pojechali艣my wtedy do domu.

Tym razem pojechali艣my dalej a偶 do parkingu bardzo blisko Batterii, wi臋c po kr贸tkim spacerze w d贸艂 znale藕li艣my si臋 na pocz膮tku kompleksu. Powiedzie膰, 偶e widok na zatok臋 po lewej stronie z g贸rami w tle by艂 pi臋kny, by艂oby niesprawiedliwo艣ci膮.

Pierwsz膮 my艣l膮 by艂o jak niewiarygodn膮 ilo艣膰 pracy zaj臋艂o zbudowanie drogi na g贸r臋, za pomoc膮 r膮k, w 1920 roku, a nast臋pnie przetransportowanie wszystkich ska艂, kamieni i cementu potrzebnych do budowy budynk贸w. Jestem pewien, 偶e wiele os贸b zmar艂o po drodze.

Budynki s膮 zbudowane w stylu zamkowym i dzia艂a s膮 zamontowane na samej g贸rze. Ach, dzia艂a. Trzeba je koniecznie zobaczy膰! S膮 masywne. Sp臋dzili艣my tam oko艂o 1 1/2 godziny, a potem ruszyli艣my powrotem do domu, ale zatrzymali艣my w po艂owie drogi w d贸艂 g贸ry, aby zje艣膰 Bocadillos (kanapki) i napi膰 wody. To mi艂e z jej strony.

Carmelo powiedzia艂 mi, 偶e to drzewa migda艂owe, i 偶e region Murcia jest trzecim najwi臋kszym producentem migda艂贸w w Hiszpanii.

To by艂 doskona艂y poranek.

Food shopping

Yesterday was shopping day at Dos Mares and Mercadona, cost for the week..160 zl.(40 EU). They had almost everything at Carrefour but their selection of chicken was poor. However, their selection of beef was excellent. The beef in Spain is much better than in Poland.

The good news is the cold spell is almost over and we are returning to 17-19c for the next week with sunny skies. Tomorrow I will get up early and make the trip to Batteria, make the walk up to the guns and take pictures. Sunday, we may go to Aguilas because it is a main day of the festival with lots of parades. It will be a crowded affair with thousands of people in attendance.

Today being Friday, we had our last meeting for the week with Carmelo. We spent 2 1/2 hours together. When I told him I was going to Batteria tomorrow he said he would like to go with me. He will be at my house at 8:00 and we will go in his car. He knows the roads better so I can enjoy the scenery while he drives and we can have more time to practice our languages. Today he also brought us another 20 oranges of a different type and a bottle of olive oil. We really like him.

With the additional oranges Carmelo brought today Joan made fresh orange juice using the old style juicer.

Wczoraj by艂 dzie艅 zakup贸w w Dos Mares i Mercadona, koszt zakup贸w na tydzie艅 160 z艂. (40 EU). Mieli prawie wszystko w Carrefour i chocia偶 wyb贸r kurczak贸w by艂 s艂aby,  to wyb贸r w wo艂owinie by艂 doskona艂y. Wo艂owina w Hiszpanii jest znacznie lepsza ni偶 w Polsce.

Jutro wstan臋 wcze艣nie i udam si臋 na wycieczk臋 do Batterii, pieszo podejd臋 do baterii armat  i zrobi臋 zdj臋cia. W niedziel臋 mo偶emy uda膰 si臋 do Aguilas, poniewa偶 jest to g艂贸wny dzie艅 festiwalu z licznymi paradami. B臋dzie to t艂umne wydarzenie z udzia艂em tysi臋cy ludzi.

Dzisiaj, w pi膮tek, odbyli艣my ostatnie w tym tygodniu spotkanie  z Carmelo. Sp臋dzili艣my razem 2 1/2 godziny. Kiedy powiedzia艂em mu, 偶e pojad臋 jutro do Batterii, powiedzia艂, 偶e chcia艂by p贸j艣膰 ze mn膮. B臋dzie w moim domu o 8:00, a my pojedziemy jego samochodem. Zna lepiej drogi, dzi臋ki czemu mog臋 cieszy膰 si臋 sceneri膮 podczas jazdy i mo偶emy mie膰 wi臋cej czasu na 膰wiczenie naszych j臋zyk贸w. Naprawd臋 go lubimy.

Wraz z dodatkowymi pomara艅czami, kt贸re Carmelo przyni贸s艂 dzisiaj, Joan zrobi艂a 艣wie偶y sok pomara艅czowy, u偶ywaj膮c starej sokowir贸wki.

Alpha Language

5 weeks ago we started taking Spanish lessons from Ann's Alpha Language Academy in San Javier, only 5 minutes from where we are staying, After the first lesson, Joan wasn't too sure about continuing. She had an issue about Ann spending more time with me because I was more advanced. I discussed this with Ann and the next lesson she spent more time with Joan. Joan was happy and has been happy with the lessons since then, I think we have learned a lot since we have been here, from Ann but also because of Ann. She is an excellent teacher and very easy to get along with. She has a good sense of humor and moves at the pace each student  can handle. We are very satisfied with her and definitely recommend her school if you come to this area to learn Spanish.

She also teaches English to Spanish people and she has one student, Carmelo, who learned English from books. His problem is pronunciation, listening and some speaking in English. He asked her if she knew anyone who spoke English who would be willing to talk with him.  When she asked me my answe was an immediate yes. I wrote an email to Carmelo and said we could help each other with languages and the next day he was at our house.

At first it was to be 1/2 hour of English, 1/2 of Spanish, 4 days a week. That only lasted 1 day. The next day we spent 2 hours together and by the end of the week we moved to 5 days a week. Now we have divided our time for Joan, Carmelo  and me. For Joan I write sentences that use verb conjugations in English and Joan has to translate them into Spanish. For me, the same but using past and future tense. For Carmelo, Telling or reading him something to repeat and say what it means. It seems to be working well. As we progress with Ann's lessons, our subjects with Carmelo will change.

I talked with him today and he agreed to continue with us through Skype when we return to Poland.
That is a huge thing for us since we will have little chance of using our Spanish except for my meetings with my friend, Radek, who speaks Spanish. However, we only meet once a week for an hour, not nearly enough.

5 tygodni temu zacz臋li艣my bra膰 lekcje hiszpa艅skiego w Alpha Language School Ann w San Javier, zaledwie 5 minut od miejsca, w kt贸rym si臋 zatrzymali艣my. Om贸wi艂em to z Ann, kt贸ra podczas kolejnej lekcji sp臋dza艂a wi臋cej czasu z Joan. Joan by艂a szcz臋艣liwa i od tego czasu cieszy si臋 lekcjami, my艣l臋 te偶, 偶e wiele si臋 nauczyli艣my odk膮d tu jeste艣my, od Ann, ale tak偶e z powodu Ann.

Ann uczy r贸wnie偶 j臋zyka angielskiego Hiszpan贸w, a jednym z jej uczni贸w jest Carmelo, kt贸ry nauczy艂 si臋 angielskiego z ksi膮偶ek. Kiedy mnie o to zapyta艂a, moja odpowied藕 by艂a natychmiastowa. Napisa艂em maila do Carmelo i powiedzia艂em, 偶e mo偶emy pom贸c sobie nawzajem w nauce j臋zyk贸w, a nast臋pnego dnia by艂 w naszym domu.

Pocz膮tkowo mia艂o to by膰 1/2 godziny angielskiego, 1/2 j臋zyka hiszpa艅skiego, 4 dni w tygodniu. To trwa艂o tylko 1 dzie艅. Nast臋pnego dnia sp臋dzili艣my razem 2 godziny, aby pod koniec tygodnia przesun臋艂o si臋 do 5 dni w tygodniu. Teraz podzielili艣my nasz czas na Joan, Carmelo i mnie. Wydaje si臋, 偶e to dobrze dzia艂a. W miar臋 post臋p贸w na lekcjach  Ann, nasze tematy z Carmelo si臋 zmieni膮.

Rozmawia艂em z nim dzisiaj, a on zgodzi艂 si臋 kontynuowa膰  spotkania z nami przez Skype, kiedy wr贸cimy do Polski.

Plan

I hate to admit it but we've hit a cold spell, 13c for a high all week until Monday when it returns to 17c and sunny all week. The cold spell will still have sunny days also but a little chillier than we expected for our stay.

Carmen sent her maintenance man to us today to fix the outside window shade so we could lower it and have complete darkness in the bedroom. It hasn't been bad but the sun does try to wake us up earlier than we want. Unlike in Poland, I've been sleeping until 9 or 10 o'clock each day. I think I'm catching up on many sleepless nights.

The siesta time is still hard getting use to. Most of the small shops are closed from 14-17:00 during the week and if you want or need something only Dos Mares, the shopping center, is open. It's about the same size as the Poznan Plaza so not really very big. The top floor is mainly fast food city and the cinema. On the main floor, Carrefour occupies about half of one side.

I have a plan to return to Bateria de Castolittos early, 8:00, while Joan is still sleeping, make the walk up to the guns and return home by12:00. It's too early for her to get up and the walk would be to hard for her. She agreed to to plan.

Dzisiaj Carmen wys艂a艂a  do nas swojego konserwatora, 偶eby naprawi艂 zewn臋trzn膮 rolet臋 na oknie, 偶eby艣my mogli j膮 opu艣ci膰 i zaciemni膰 sypialni臋. Nie by艂o 藕le, ale s艂o艅ce stara si臋 nas obudzi膰 wcze艣niej, ni偶 chcemy. W przeciwie艅stwie do Polski, 艣pi臋 codziennie do 9 lub 10 rano. My艣l臋, 偶e nadrabiam wiele nieprzespanych nocy.

Najwy偶sze pi臋tro to g艂贸wnie miejsce z  fast foodami i kinem. Na g艂贸wnym pi臋trze Carrefour zajmuje oko艂o po艂ow臋 jednej strony.

Mam plan, 偶eby powr贸ci膰 do Bateria de Castolittos - wyj艣膰  wcze艣nie o 8:00, gdy Joan wci膮偶 艣pi, podej艣膰 do armat i wr贸膰 do domu o 12.00. Dla Joan jest zbyt wcze艣nie, by mog艂a wsta膰, a spacer by艂by dla niej zbyt trudny. Zgodzi艂a si臋 na ten plan.

To lantana.

Flowers

We took a little walk today and discover this fence covered in these beautiful little flowers of many different colors. Each flower had 3 or 4 colors in it and, unfortunately, my macro lens couldn't get close enough for you to see them clearly. We were on our way to the sweet shop to discover something new, Torta Chicharron  an Pasta de Fruita. Both were delicious with coffee. The salesperson is kind enough now to write down the names of new things we try.

Earlier we spent 1 1/2 hours with Camilo and after we had our lesson with Ann and moved into Chapter 7 of the book. Because of the amount of homework we do the lessons are moving along quickly and that is good. We only have 5 weeks left.

Dzi艣 zrobili艣my ma艂y spacer i odkryli艣my ogrodzenie pokryte tymi pi臋knymi kwiatami o wielu r贸偶nych kolorach. Oba by艂y pyszne z kaw膮. Sprzedawca jest na tyle mi艂y, 偶e zapisuje nazwy nowych rzeczy, kt贸re pr贸bujemy.

Wcze艣niej sp臋dzili艣my 1 1/2 godziny z Camilo, po czym mieli艣my nasz膮 lekcj臋 z Ann od 7. rozdzia艂u ksi膮偶ki.

Cartagena day.

A beautiful day for the short trip to Cartagena. We left at 11:00 and were there by 11:20 traveling on the Autovia A7 120kph. I love the roads in Spain. First we went to the main pedestrian street and  found a shop for coffee, a donnut for Joan and a piece of chocolate cake for me. When we were done we continued walking down the street and I stopped a man to ask, in my best Spanish, 'Where is the Roman amphitheater"? He replied, " Say it to me in English, I'm from Norway" We both laughed, he told me where it was and we proceeded to go there.

We found it with no trouble. It wasn't visible because the entrance is hidden by an office building of the Museum. However, it is plainly written on the door. Entrance fee for us was 5 EU each. The recovery of the Roman Theater of Cartagena and the pieces found during the successive excavations created a new exhibition space, the Roman Theater's Museum.

It's divided into two separate buildings connected by an underground passage. The theater corridor explains the evolution of the solar theater from the 1st century to the 21st century

Room 1 is a large room that contains the collection of monumental architecture.

Room 2 tells you the functions of the theater in antiquity in comedy, politics and religion.

The theater itself is the last great hall of the museum. Built in 220 B.C. it is being restored for visitors as well as conservation, education, exhibition and culture. Not all of it is complete yet if you look at the models in the pictures I took. However, what we saw today was very impressive. Now, it is the most attractive tourist site in Cartagena.

At 15:00 we left Cartagena for Bateria de Castolittos(The Big Guns). We drove up a mountain on a very curvy road with beautiful views until we got to Campillo de Adventro. The road ahead led to the guns but it forked and I didn't know which road to take. I pulled over behind 2 men and in my best Spanish I asked, "Which road leads to the Bateria?" The man replied..'Speak in English, I am German". I did and he told me the left road is better so I took it. It was not very wide and even more curvy than before but we made it to the main gate. However, the gate was closed and only foot traffic the rest of the way to the top, 1 km up a steep grade, was possible. It was too much for Joan so we turned around and came back home.

Pi臋kny dzie艅 na kr贸tk膮 wycieczk臋 do Kartaginy. Wyszli艣my o godzinie 11:00 i 11:20 byli艣my na miejscu, podr贸偶uj膮c z pr臋dko艣ci膮 120 km/h Autovi膮 A7. Uwielbiam hiszpa艅skie drogi. Najpierw poszli艣my g艂贸wnym deptakiem, gdzie znale藕li艣my sklep, w kt贸rym kupili艣my kaw臋 i p膮czka dla Joan, a dla mnie kawa艂ek ciasta czekoladowego. Kiedy zjedli艣my, poszli艣my dalej. Zatrzyma艂em jakiego艣 m臋偶czyzn臋, by zapyta膰 moim najlepszym hiszpa艅skim: „Gdzie jest rzymski amfiteatr?". On odpowiedzia艂: "M贸w do mnie po angielsku, jestem z Norwegii” Oboje roze艣miali艣my si臋, wskaza艂 mi drog臋, wi臋c poszli艣my tam.

Znale藕li艣my go bez problemu. Nie by艂 widoczny, poniewa偶 wej艣cie jest zas艂ania biurowiec Muzeum. Odkrycie Rzymskiego Teatru Kartaginy i fragment贸w znalezionych podczas kolejnych wykopalisk ,stworzy艂o now膮 przestrze艅 wystawiennicz膮, Muzeum Teatru Rzymskiego.

To dwa odr臋bne budynki po艂膮czone podziemnym przej艣ciem. Korytarz teatru wyja艣nia ewolucj臋 teatru s艂onecznego od I wieku do XXI wieku

Pok贸j pierwszy jest du偶y i zawiera zbi贸r architektury monumentalnej.

Pok贸j drugi pokazuje funkcje teatru w staro偶ytno艣ci w komedii, polityce i religii.

Jednak to, co widzieli艣my dzisiaj, robi wra偶enie. Teraz, to jest najbardziej atrakcyjne turystycznie miejsce w Kartaginie.

O godzinie 15:00 opu艣cili艣my Kartagin臋 i udali艣my si臋 do Bateria de Castolittos (The Big Guns. Dawne umocnienia wojskowe). Jechali艣my pod g贸r臋 bardzo kr臋t膮 drog膮 z pi臋knymi widokami, a偶 dotarli艣my do Campillo de Adventro. Droga naprz贸d doprowadzi艂a do umocnie艅, ale rozwidla艂a si臋, a ja nie wiedzia艂em, kt贸r膮 wybra膰. Zjecha艂em na bok za dwoma m臋偶czyznami i, wykorzystuj膮c m贸j najlepszy hiszpa艅ski, zapyta艂em: „Kt贸ra droga prowadzi do Baterii?” Jednak, brama by艂a zamkni臋ta i obowi膮zywa艂 wy艂膮cznie ruch pieszy, a do szczytu by艂 1 km po stromi藕nie. To by艂o zbyt wiele dla Joan, wi臋c zawr贸cili艣my i wr贸cili艣my do domu.
