Queen

Yesterday, I only wrote a Spanish language blog to see if there was anyone who reads it in Spanish. I was curious to see if there would be any comments, so far, none. Oh wait, there was an email to me saying the person tried to write a comment but wasn't successful in posting it.

Today was another nice day for Joan to sit on the balcony and read. Earlier, Bartosz took her outside for a short walk before her exercises.

Here, the number of Covid-19 new cases is still not going down very quickly. Today there were 32, 874, and 653 died. I expect it will be higher after this weekend holiday of Easter with some of the population still visiting with their families.

I have no idea if you liked the group "Queen" or not but 3 years ago an actor, accepted the role of Queen's leader, Freddie Mercury. The actor, Rami Malek, bore an uncanny resemblance to Freddie, and with the help of make-up, the transition was completed. The most amazing thing about the movie, Bohemian Rhapsody", was how well the actor delivered almost the exact vocals and movements of his character. He must have spent hours watching old videos of Freddie. Malik wasn't the only voice used. The Canadian voice of Marc Martel also took part in some of the songs in the movie but the performance was all Rami Malek. In fact, he won the Best Actor Oscar for the movie.  It's very fortunate that the third part of the movie actually shows the comparison of the actor and Freddie in the last concert. "Live Aid", from 1985. I put that part on this blog, to the right side.

Wczoraj napisałem tylko hiszpańskojęzycznego bloga, żeby zobaczyć, czy jest ktoś, kto czyta go po hiszpańsku. Byłam ciekawa, czy będą jakieś komentarze, jak na razie żadnych. O czekaj, przyszedł do mnie mail, że osoba próbowała napisać komentarz, ale nie udało jej się go zamieścić.

Dzisiaj był kolejny miły dzień, w którym Joanna siedziała na balkonie i czytała. Wcześniej Bartosz zabrał ją na dwór na krótki spacer przed ćwiczeniami.

U nas liczba nowych przypadków Covid-19 nadal nie spada zbyt szybko. Dziś było ich 32, 874, a 653 zmarło. Spodziewam się, że będzie wyższa po tym weekendowym święcie Wielkanocy, kiedy część ludności nadal odwiedza swoje rodziny.

Nie mam pojęcia czy lubiliście grupę "Queen" czy nie, ale 3 lata temu pewien aktor przyjął rolę lidera Queen, Freddiego Mercury'ego. Aktor, Rami Malek, był niesamowicie podobny do Freddiego, a z pomocą makijażu, przemiana została zakończona. Najbardziej niesamowitą rzeczą w filmie "Bohemian Rhapsody" było to, jak dobrze aktor oddał niemal dokładnie wokal i ruchy swojej postaci. Musiał spędzić wiele godzin na oglądaniu starych filmów z Freddiem. Malik nie był jedynym głosem, którego użyto. Kanadyjski głos Marca Martela również wziął udział w niektórych piosenkach w filmie, ale występ był w całości dziełem Ramiego Maleka. To właśnie on zdobył za ten film Oscara dla najlepszego aktora.  Bardzo szczęśliwie się składa, że trzecia część filmu faktycznie pokazuje porównanie aktora i Freddiego na ostatnim koncercie. "Live Aid", z 1985 roku. Umieściłem ten fragment na tym blogu, po prawej stronie.

Ayer sólo escribí un blog en español para ver si había alguien que lo leyera en español. Tenía curiosidad por ver si había algún comentario, hasta ahora, ninguno. Oh, espera, hubo un correo electrónico a mí diciendo que la persona trató de escribir un comentario, pero no tuvo éxito en la publicación.

Hoy ha sido otro buen día para que Joan se siente en el balcón a leer. Antes, Bartosz la llevó a dar un pequeño paseo antes de sus ejercicios.

Debió de pasar horas viendo viejos vídeos de Freddie. Malik no fue la única voz utilizada. La voz canadiense de Marc Martel también participó en algunas de las canciones de la película, pero la interpretación fue toda de Rami Malek. De hecho, ganó el Oscar al mejor actor por la película.  Es una gran suerte que la tercera parte de la película muestre la comparación del actor con Freddie en el último concierto. Only Spanish today.

Me gustaría presentarme. Yo soy David Piekarczyk, Americano. Vivo en polonia con mi mujer, Juanita. Tengo setenta y seis años y mi mujer setenta y cinco. Tenemos dos hijos, Joseph y Karen, y dos nietos, Joseph y Nicolle. Ellos tienen ventitres y ventiuno años. Los dos estudien en la universidad en los Estados Unidos. Toda mi familia es polaca.

Cuando tenía diez y siete años, me uní La Armada de Estados Unidos y pasé dos años en España. En La Armada,trabajé como locutor en la estación de radio militar y ponía música en la radio. Tuve la oportunidad de volar a muchos paises. Me gusta mucho mi tiempo en España. Mientras estuve allí me enamoré de la guitarra clásica,especial Andres Segovia.

Despues mi tiempo en España, regresé a Estados Unidos y asistí a la universidad de música para guitarra clásica. Sin embargo, no hay nadie que siempre tenga razón. Más tárde tenía problemas con mis manos y dejé tocar la guitarra. Estuve un muy mal tiempo.

Polonia es en Unión Europea. En polonia. No mucho la gente no sonrein. Para mi, es differente que en the Los Estados Unidos. Mi madre falleció me dijo que hay mucho familia en polonia. Ni mis tías y tíos ni mis abuelos hablaron de Polonia. Está sólo más tárde en mi vida que descubrí tengo familia alla. Ahora, aplico la nacionalidad polaca pero yo soy impaciente y no me gusto esperar durante dos años.

Hemos ido a España para inviernes los últimos tres años, Usualmente, quedamos en el sur de Murcia, un ciudad pequeño se llama Santiago de la Ribera. Alli, alquilamos el mismo pequeño piso cada año. Está muy cerca de la playa y del centro.

Fuimos a España este año pero después de dos semanas mi esposa tuvo un derrame cerebral y estuvo en el hospital de San Javier durante dos meses.

Cheesecake mistakes.

Today was the day to make my first cheesecake. Living in Poland these past years my brain thinks in metric now.  Even when I see the $ sign I think PLN. It made a big difference when I made the cheesecake.

First thing in the morning I made a German Oven pancake for breakfast. I had two conversations schedules for 11 & 12:00 so I didn't start until 13:00.

First, for the crust, I mixed the sugar, butter. sifted four and one egg into the mixing bowl without cracking it. That was a mistake. Without mixing it, after two hours on Skype the egg had stiffened. I thought it would have an effect on the mix so I started over. Probably it wouldn't have. The bigger mistake was when I mix the ingredients for the cream cheese. 

The recipe said 1 pound of cream cheese but my brain thought 1 kilo. 1 kilo-2.2 pounds.  I mixed 1 kilo, with sugar, vanilla extract, milk, and flour for the crust. It seemed like a lot and not at all creamy like the recipe said but it was my first so I poured it over the cake crust in the 9x13 pan, and then into the oven.

Sitting back at this laptop I looked over the recipe and discovered my huge mistake. I was convinced I just spent an hour and a half plus all the ingredients for nothing. The cake would be a disaster. I let it bake out its complete time. The top was covered with cinnamon, well baked, but the inside still seemed a little too watery, I was ready to throw it all into the garbage but I put it outside to cool. To my huge surprise, the cake had solidified. I cut out one square and Joan and I tasted it so it was salvageable after all. It wasn't quite as good as it could be with the right amount of cream cheese but still good. Next time I will know better.

Dziś był dzień zrobienia mojego pierwszego sernika. Mieszkając w Polsce w ostatnich latach, mój mózg myśli teraz metrycznie. Nawet gdy widzę znak $, myślę, że PLN. Kiedy zrobiłem sernik, zrobiłem wielką różnicę.

Z samego rana zrobiłem na śniadanie niemiecki naleśnik z piekarnika. Miałem dwa harmonogramy rozmów na 11 i 12:00, więc zacząłem dopiero o 13:00.

A walk.

 A nice sunny day so a perfect day to take Joan for a little walk outside. We didn't go far, just two blocks, and then back home. It took an hour to do that, avoiding people. She had some difficulty making the steps and was tired at the end of it.

I planned to make my first attempt at baking a cheesecake but discovered I didn't add a few ingredients to my shopping list so I didn't do it. I was looking forward to it and a little disappointed I couldn't do it.

My friend from Spain sent me a message that she would like to arrange some time to meet on Skype so she could practice her English and me, my Spanish. I was happy to hear that.

Un buen día soleado así que un día perfecto para llevar a Joan a dar un pequeño paseo al aire libre. No fuimos muy lejos, solo dos cuadras, y luego de regreso a casa. Me tomó una hora hacer eso, evitando a la gente. Tuvo algunas dificultades para dar los pasos y estaba cansada al final.

Planeé hacer mi primer intento de hornear un pastel de queso, pero descubrí que no agregué algunos ingredientes a mi lista de compras, así que no lo hice. Estaba deseando que llegara y un poco decepcionado de no poder hacerlo.

Mi amiga de España me envió un mensaje de que le gustaría concertar un tiempo para reunirse por Skype para poder practicar su inglés y yo, mi español. Me alegré de escuchar eso.

Drying clothes

A nice enough day outside for Joan to sit on the balcony and read. The sun was out and the clothes on the drying rack dried rather quickly. The drying rack, I wonder if people in the U.S. know about such a thing. We, Joan and I, never used one before moving here. There was always an electric clothes drier in the house. My mother was in the time of the clothesline and clothespins. The sun and the air were the means for drying as it is here in many places.

An interesting day. I talked with someone who may be able to help me in my quest for Polish citizenship. She asked for copies of all the documents I have collected so she can review them and see if it is possible. I won't hold my breath My enthusiasm for it has waned a little but we will see what happens.

Joan's therapist said her right leg seems to be getting weaker so I should work harder on strengthening it. The worst thing for us is that her legs would get weaker. It would present a whole new set of problems and there are enough already. She did have a good day today sitting outside. If tomorrow's weather is good I will take her out for a little ride. 

I chatted with my cousin's husband, Władysław, today to see how his family is doing with this coronavirus and he said all is well. Their flower shop business will come to an end in Junes when he and his wife retire. 

Another cousin from the U.S wrote to me that I had the wrong picture of her grandmother and sent me their wedding picture. I changed the picture in my tree archive. It was from the Paulinski line. She was also kind enough to give me more information about that family line.

Rozmawiałam dziś z mężem mojej kuzynki Władysławem, żeby zobaczyć, jak jego rodzina radzi sobie z tym koronawirusem i powiedział, że wszystko w porządku. Ich działalność w kwiaciarni dobiegnie końca w czerwcu, kiedy on i jego żona przejdą na emeryturę.

Inna kuzynka z USA napisała do mnie, że mam złe zdjęcie jej babci i wysłała mi jej zdjęcie ślubne. Zmieniłem zdjęcie w moim archiwum drzewa. To było z linii Paulińskich. Była też na tyle uprzejma, że ​​udzieliła mi więcej informacji o tej linii rodzinnej.

New Restrictions.

 Numbers continue to rise in the coronavirus nightmare. Today marked another new high, 34,000. At this rate, we might catch up to the U.S., 58,755 new cases. Stronger restrictions are now in place.

• Kindergartens and nurseries are closed to all except for those children whose parents work in the health or law enforcement sector.
• Beauty salons, hairdressers, and cosmetic stores are closed.
• Only professional athletes are allowed access to sports facilities.
• Furniture and home improvement stores with an area of greater than 2,000 sqm are closed.
• The number of people per square meter allowed in stores and churches has also been amended.

Now we will wait for 2-3 weeks to see if they have had any effect slowing down the virus. 

I was at Carrefour this morning at 6:30 when they opened up. My list was prepared and I had a few things I have never bought before, like red food coloring. It took a little time to find the exact place where it was on the shelf. They had several colors, red, blue, green, and yellow. I thought they should be on the shelves where coffee is found. However, they were next to the coffee pots for sale on the other end of the store. Cost for this week's food, 185 PLN($47).

Plitwicie.

When I think back on all the beautiful places Joan and I have seen together, I think of the majestic Rocky Mountains in Colorado, the Alhambra fortress in Granada, Spain, the many palaces in Poland, Austria, Prague, Budapest, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Versailles palace in France, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and the mountains in Zakopane, Poland. The most spectacular of the natural places has to be Plitwicka National Park in Croatia. We spent three days there with our friends Mike Davis and Mary O'Donnell. We rented a house very close to it and spent two days visiting the waterfalls of the five lakes that empty into each other to form the waterfalls.

This video can give you a vision of them but being there is really the only way to experience them. They are certainly one of the wonders of the natural world, formed 4,000 years ago...

Kiedy myślę o wszystkich pięknych miejscach, które razem z Joan zobaczyliśmy, myślę o majestatycznych Górach Skalistych w Kolorado, twierdzy Alhambra w Granadzie w Hiszpanii, wielu pałacach w Polsce, Austrii, Pradze, Budapeszcie, Niemczech, Czechach, Słowacji, pałacu wersalskim we Francji, Górnym Półwyspie Michigan i górach w Zakopanem w Polsce. Najbardziej spektakularnym z naturalnych miejsc jest Plitwicki Park Narodowy w Chorwacji. Spędziliśmy tam trzy dni z naszymi przyjaciółmi Mike'm Davisem i Mary O'Donnell. Wynajęliśmy dom bardzo blisko parku i spędziliśmy dwa dni na zwiedzaniu wodospadów z pięciu jezior, które wpadają na siebie tworząc wodospady.

Cuando pienso en todos los lugares hermosos que Joan y yo hemos visto juntos, pienso en las majestuosas Montañas Rocosas en Colorado, la fortaleza de la Alhambra en Granada, España, los muchos palacios en Polonia, Austria, Praga, Budapest, Alemania, la República Checa. República, Eslovaquia, el palacio de Versalles en Francia, la península superior de Michigan y las montañas de Zakopane, Polonia. El más espectacular de los lugares naturales tiene que ser el Parque Nacional de Plitwicka en Croacia. Pasamos tres días allí con nuestros amigos Mike Davis y Mary O'Donnell. Alquilamos una casa muy cerca y pasamos dos días visitando las cascadas de los cinco lagos que se desembocan entre sí para formar las cascadas.

A usual day.

The usual meeting with Radek in the morning and then I studied for an hour while Joan was resting. He talked about how slow the vaccination process is going here in Poland and I related I finally have an appointment for Joan on April 6th.  Before Bartosz arrived at 16:30(4:30PM), I did some exercises with Joan walking.

I've been keeping the shopping lists I make for each week and now I can start using them to plan our weekly food menus much quicker. I have them saved for the last four months and can add something new or delete something we didn't really like. It's a much more streamlined way of making the weekly menu.

We started watching a re-run of the TV series, "The Newsroom". I think it's very pertinent for today. It's a story about a newsroom that decides it is time to start telling the "real" news of the day and not being concerned with entertaining an audience. Like news was when there were the people like Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite. etc. 

Rano zwyczajowe spotkanie z Radkiem, a potem przez godzinę uczyłem się, podczas gdy Joanna odpoczywała. Radek mówił o tym, jak wolno przebiega proces szczepień w Polsce, a ja odniosłem się do tego, że w końcu mam umówioną wizytę dla Joanny na 6 kwietnia. Zanim Bartosz przyjechał o 16:30 (4:30 PM), zrobiłem kilka ćwiczeń z Joan.

Przechowywałem listy zakupów, które robię na każdy tydzień i teraz mogę zacząć ich używać do znacznie szybszego planowania naszych tygodniowych jadłospisów. Mam je spisane z ostatnich czterech miesiący i mogę dodać coś nowego lub usunąć coś, co nam się nie spodobało. Jest to o wiele bardziej sprawny sposób tworzenia tygodniowego menu.

Zaczęliśmy oglądać powtórkę serialu "The Newsroom". Myślę, że jest też adekwantny na dziś. To historia o newsroomie, który decyduje, że nadszedł czas, aby zacząć opowiadać "prawdziwe" wiadomości dnia, a nie martwić się o zabawianie publiczności. He estado guardando las listas de la compra que hago para cada semana y ahora puedo empezar a usarlas para planificar nuestros menús semanales de comida mucho más rápido. Las tengo guardadas de los últimos cuatro meses y puedo añadir algo nuevo o eliminar algo que no nos haya gustado. Es una forma mucho más ágil de hacer el menú semanal.

Hemos empezado a ver una reposición de la serie de televisión "The Newsroom". Creo que es muy pertinente para hoy. Es una historia sobre una redacción que decide que es hora de empezar a contar las noticias "reales" del día y no preocuparse por entretener a audiencia. Como eran las noticias cuando había gente como Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite. etc. 

Vaccination.

 I called the helpline for vaccinations to check on Joan's appointment. The call said they were open from 8:00-15:00(3PM). Immediately after that message was another one, "Sorry, all the lines are busy. Please call later.". I did, all during the open hours, every time I got the same message.

My friend from Bydgoszcz gave me a more direct line, to Warsaw. I called the number and said, "I registered my wife for vaccination two months ago and still I do not have an appointment. She is seventy-five years old and has had two strokes and cannot walk. Her name is Joan Piekarczyk". Two minutes later she had an appointment for April 6th, 9:15. Thank God.

Zadzwoniłam na infolinię w sprawie szczepień, żeby sprawdzić, czy Joan jest umówiona. W słuchawce było napisane, że są otwarte od 8:00-15:00 (15:00). Natychmiast po tej wiadomości była kolejna: "Przepraszamy, wszystkie linie są zajęte. Proszę zadzwonić później.". Tak też zrobiłem, wszystko w godzinach otwarcia, za każdym razem otrzymywałem tę samą wiadomość.

Mój przyjaciel z Bydgoszczy dał mi bardziej bezpośrednią linię, do Warszawy. Zadzwoniłem pod ten numer i mówię: "Zapisałem żonę na szczepienie dwa miesiące temu i do tej pory nie mam terminu. Ona ma siedemdziesiąt pięć lat, była po dwóch udarach i nie może chodzić. Nazywa się Joanna Piekarczyk". Dwie minuty później była umówiona na 6 kwietnia, na 9:15. Dzięki Bogu.

Llamé a la línea de ayuda para las vacunas para comprobar la cita de Joan. La llamada decía que estaban abiertos de 8:00 a 15:00 (3PM). Inmediatamente después de ese mensaje había otro, "Lo siento, todas las líneas están ocupadas. Por favor, llame más tarde". Lo hice, durante todo el horario de apertura, y cada vez recibí el mismo mensaje.

Mi amigo de Bydgoszcz me dio una línea más directa, a Varsovia. Llamé al número y dije: "Hace dos meses que inscribí a mi mujer para la vacunación y todavía no tengo cita. Tiene setenta y cinco años y ha sufrido dos derrames cerebrales y no puede caminar. Se llama Joan Piekarczyk". Dos minutos más tarde tenía una cita para el 6 de abril, a las 9:15. Gracias a Dios.

Spring.

The Spring Equinox is here, finally. Spring, the time of rebirth for the plants, trees, and flowers. The crocus plants popped up yesterday and will probably open today or tomorrow. I thought it was a good time for the rebirth of enthusiasm to work harder on Joan's family history. I know some of it but feel there is much more I could find out. It means writing letters to churches in Tolcsva, Hungary, the village her grandfather came from. That starts the process of waiting and hoping I get an answer. I will have to rely on one of the internet translators because I certainly don't know the Hungarian language.

My enthusiasm for researching my own families, Kazmierczak and Piekarczyk, has waned after 15 years but I found a lot of information no relative or myself ever knew. It was a fruitful endeavor and I never know when someone new comes to light. However, now I know much more about them than I ever imagined when I started years ago. Most of it I did on my own but I did have help here in Poland from a professional genealogical researcher. She was able to find the records dating back to 1770. 

The sore spot in my arm where the vaccination was has gone away. It only lasted for one day. I read that after the second shot on April 30th, it will take another two weeks before my system is as protected as it can be against the coronavirus. However, I also read that sometimes it does not work if the Pfizer vaccine has not been stored in the proper manner before it is given. I won't dwell on that point but I will continue to mask and social distance until the high danger has passed. Right now, it is still raging in Poland with 27,796 new cases just yesterday alone.

Joan regained her level of "normalcy" after having a bad morning. It was her worst episode so far.

W końcu nadeszła równonoc wiosenna. Wiosna, czas odrodzenia dla roślin, drzew i kwiatów. Wczoraj wyskoczyły krokusy i prawdopodobnie otworzą się dziś lub jutro. Pomyślałem, że to dobry czas na odrodzenie entuzjazmu do cięższej pracy nad historią rodziny Joanny. Znam część z nich, ale czuję, że jest o wiele więcej, czego mógłbym się dowiedzieć. Oznacza to pisanie listów do kościołów w Tolcsvie na Węgrzech, miejscowości, z której pochodził jej dziadek. To rozpoczyna proces oczekiwania i nadziei, że otrzymam odpowiedź. Będę musiał polegać na jednym z internetowych tłumaczy, ponieważ z pewnością nie znam języka węgierskiego.

Mój entuzjazm do badania moich własnych rodzin, Kaźmierczaka i Piekarczyka, osłabł po 15 latach, ale znalazłem wiele informacji, o których nigdy nie wiedział żaden krewny ani ja sam. To było owocne przedsięwzięcie i nigdy nie wiem, kiedy ktoś nowy wyjdzie na światło dzienne. Jednak teraz wiem o nich znacznie więcej, niż sobie wyobrażałem, gdy zaczynałem przed laty. Większość z tego zrobiłem sam, ale miałem pomoc tutaj w Polsce od profesjonalnego badacza genealogicznego. Była ona w stanie znaleźć zapisy sięgające 1770 roku. 

Bolące miejsce w moim ramieniu, gdzie była szczepionka, odeszło. Trwało to tylko jeden dzień. Czytałam, że po drugim zastrzyku 30 kwietnia, miną kolejne dwa tygodnie zanim mój organizm będzie tak chroniony jak to tylko możliwe przed koronawirusem. Czytałem też jednak, że czasem nie działa, jeśli szczepionka Pfizer nie była przechowywana w odpowiedni sposób przed podaniem. Nie będę się rozwodził nad tym punktem, ale będę kontynuował maskowanie i dystans społeczny, dopóki wysokie zagrożenie nie minie. W tej chwili w Polsce nadal szaleje, tylko wczoraj odnotowano 27,796 nowych przypadków.

Joanna odzyskała swój poziom "normalności" po tym, jak miała zły poranek. To był jej najgorszy epizod do tej pory.

Por fin ha llegado el equinoccio de primavera. La primavera, la época del renacimiento de las plantas, los árboles y las flores. Las plantas de azafrán aparecieron ayer y probablemente se abrirán hoy o mañana. Pensé que era un buen momento para el renacimiento del entusiasmo para trabajar más en la historia familiar de Joan. Conozco parte de ella pero siento que hay mucho más que podría averiguar. Eso significa escribir cartas a las iglesias de Tolcsva, en Hungría, el pueblo de donde procedía su abuelo. Así comienza el proceso de esperar y desear que me respondan. Tendré que recurrir a uno de los traductores de Internet, porque ciertamente no conozco el idioma húngaro.

Mi entusiasmo por investigar a mis propias familias, Kazmierczak y Piekarczyk, ha disminuido después de 15 años, pero encontré mucha información que ningún pariente ni yo mismo conocíamos. Fue un esfuerzo fructífero y nunca sé cuándo sale a la luz algo nuevo. Sin embargo, ahora sé mucho más sobre ellos de lo que imaginaba cuando empecé hace años. La mayor parte la hice por mi cuenta, pero tuve la ayuda aquí en Polonia de una investigadora genealógica profesional. Ella fue capaz de encontrar los registros que se remontan a 1770. 

La llaga en el brazo donde estaba la vacuna ha desaparecido. Sólo duró un día. He leído que después de la segunda vacuna, el 30 de abril, pasarán otras dos semanas antes de que mi sistema esté lo más protegido posible contra el coronavirus. Joan recuperó su nivel de "normalidad" después de pasar una mala mañana. Fue su peor episodio hasta ahora.

Cookies.

After the vaccination, I didn't have any adverse feelings from it until later in the evening when it felt like I was punched in the area where the shot was given. It was just an ache but not too strong.  Today I have two friends who now have coronavirus. I have hope that next week they will call and say Joan has a fill-in appointment for someone who canceled. It's not that she is in any imminent danger but certainly, with the health problems she has, she needs to be vaccinated.

The chocolate snowball cookies were a big success. Bartosz tasted them and asked for the recipe. I used double the ingredients and produced 50 of the cookies. We ate the last 4 today. Now I want to find a cake recipe that is more complicated to make. There are so many different kinds of cakes that I would like to pick one and make it until it is perfect.

Joan had a rough day today. Her orientation as to where she lived, who people were, what she wanted to do, were all difficult for her to understand. I know this is the future for us but it is so hard to accept.

Po szczepieniu nie miałam żadnych negatywnych odczuć, aż do późnego wieczora, kiedy to poczułam się jakbym została uderzona w miejsce, w które został podany zastrzyk. Był to tylko ból, ale niezbyt silny.  Dzisiaj mam dwóch przyjaciół, którzy mają teraz koronawirusa. Mam nadzieję, że w przyszłym tygodniu zadzwonią i powiedzą, że Joanna ma umówioną wizytę w zastępstwie kogoś, kto ją odwołał. To nie jest tak, że ona jest w jakimkolwiek bezpośrednim niebezpieczeństwie, ale z pewnością, z problemami zdrowotnymi, które ma, musi być zaszczepiona.

Czekoladowe ciasteczka w kształcie kuli śnieżnej okazały się wielkim sukcesem. Bartoszowi smakowały i poprosił o przepis. Użyłam podwójnej ilości składników i wyszło 50 takich ciasteczek. Dzisiaj zjedliśmy 4 ostatnie. Teraz chcę znaleźć przepis na ciasto, które jest bardziej skomplikowane do zrobienia. Jest tak wiele różnych rodzajów ciast, że chciałabym wybrać jedno i robić je tak długo, aż będzie idealne.

Joan miała dziś ciężki dzień. Trudno było jej zrozumieć, gdzie mieszka, kim są ludzie, co chce robić. Wiem, że taka jest nasza przyszłość, ale tak trudno się z tym pogodzić.

Después de la vacunación, no tuve ninguna sensación adversa hasta más tarde por la noche, cuando sentí como si me hubieran dado un puñetazo en la zona donde se puso la inyección. Era sólo un dolor, pero no demasiado fuerte.  Hoy tengo dos amigos que ahora tienen coronavirus. Tengo la esperanza de que la semana que viene llamen y digan que Joan tiene una cita de sustitución para alguien que ha cancelado. No es que esté en peligro inminente, pero desde luego, con los problemas de salud que tiene, necesita vacunarse.

Las galletas de chocolate con forma de bola de nieve fueron un gran éxito. Bartosz las probó y me pidió la receta. He utilizado el doble de ingredientes y he hecho 50 galletas. Hoy nos hemos comido las últimas 4. Ahora quiero encontrar una receta de tarta que sea más complicada de hacer. Hay tantos tipos de tartas que me gustaría elegir una y hacerla hasta que quede perfecta.

Joan tuvo un día difícil hoy. Su orientación en cuanto al lugar donde vivía, quiénes eran las personas, qué quería hacer, le resultaba difícil de entender. Sé que este es el futuro para nosotros, pero es tan difícil de aceptar.

1st vaccination!

Yesterday, I had a notification that my Covid shot was today at 12:30. I was relieved to get it because the previous day they canceled all vaccinations(850) for the day. I was concerned it might happen again today.

I arrived ahead of time because they changed locations and I had to find the new place. Joan was at home, restrained in her recliner with her phone nearby. It was very easy to get the first vaccination. The process took 15 minutes.  My second shot will be on April 30th. Marcin told the receptionist about Joan not having a confirmation of her first vaccination time and he gave Marcin his own email address. He said if they have any cancellations next week he would call Marcin/

The government institutes a lockdown starting tomorrow but it does not include hair and beauty salons, I don't believe that is a necessity in one's life and certainly has the potential to spread the virus. We have had lockdowns before but they do not last long enough to slow down the virus. Now, in the northern regions, the British variant is running wild. It is only a matter of time before they spread own to our region. As usual, it could be just one person who goes to some event in the north, becomes infected,, and brings it here. I am not very concerned for Joan and I because we have almost no direct contact with anyone. However, there is always the possibility when I go shopping. That is why I go so early.

When I use WhatApp on the phone, it takes me forever to write a message because of my tremor condition. Wednesday, cousin Andrzej told me he has it on his PC. I downloaded it to this computer and now it is so much easier to write a message using this keyboard. Thank you, Andrzej. 

Andrzej impresses me. When we first met, he knew very little about PC's but through his persistence to learn, now I am asking for his advice on how to do different things. I admire him for that.

Wczoraj dostałam powiadomienie, że mój zastrzyk Covid jest dzisiaj o 12:30. Odetchnęłam z ulgą, bo poprzedniego dnia odwołali mi wszystkie szczepienia(850) na ten dzień. Obawiałam się, że dzisiaj może się to powtórzyć.

Przyjechałam przed czasem, bo zmienili lokalizację i musiałam znaleźć nowe miejsce. Joanna była w domu, skrępowana w swojej leżance z telefonem w pobliżu. Pierwsze szczepienie było bardzo łatwe. Cały proces trwał 15 minut.  Moje drugie szczepienie odbędzie się 30 kwietnia. Marcin powiedział recepcjoniście o tym, że Joanna nie ma potwierdzenia terminu pierwszego szczepienia i on dał Marcinowi swój własny adres e-mail. Powiedział, że jeśli w przyszłym tygodniu będą mieli jakieś odwołane wizyty, to zadzwoni do Marcina/.

Rząd wprowadza blokadę od jutra, ale nie obejmuje ona salonów fryzjerskich i kosmetycznych, nie wierzę, że jest to niezbędne w życiu człowieka i z pewnością ma potencjał do rozprzestrzeniania wirusa. Mieliśmy już wcześniej blokady, ale nie trwają one wystarczająco długo, aby spowolnić rozprzestrzenianie się wirusa. Teraz, w północnych regionach, wariant brytyjski szaleje. To tylko kwestia czasu, zanim rozprzestrzeni się w naszym regionie. Jak zwykle, może to być tylko jedna osoba, która pójdzie na jakieś wydarzenie na północy, zarazi się i przyniesie go tutaj. Nie martwię się zbytnio o Joan i o mnie, ponieważ nie mamy prawie z nikim bezpośredniego kontaktu. Jednak zawsze istnieje taka możliwość, kiedy idę na zakupy. Dlatego chodzę tak wcześnie.

Kiedy używam aplikacji WhatApp w telefonie, napisanie wiadomości zajmuje mi całą wieczność z powodu mojego drżenia. W środę kuzyn Andrzej powiedział mi, że ma ją na swoim komputerze. Ściągnąłem ją na ten komputer i teraz o wiele łatwiej jest napisać wiadomość używając tej klawiatury. Dziękuję ci, Andrzeju.

Ayer me avisaron de que mi vacuna Covid era hoy a las 12:30. Me sentí aliviada al recibirla porque el día anterior cancelaron todas las vacunas(850) del día. Me preocupaba que pudiera volver a ocurrir hoy.

Llegué antes de tiempo porque cambiaron de ubicación y tuve que encontrar el nuevo lugar. Joan estaba en su casa, sujeta en su sillón reclinable con su teléfono cerca. Fue muy fácil conseguir la primera vacuna. El proceso duró 15 minutos.  Mi segunda vacuna será el 30 de abril. Marcin le dijo a la recepcionista que Joan no tenía confirmación de la hora de la primera vacuna y le dio su propia dirección de correo electrónico. Dijo que si tenían alguna cancelación la próxima semana llamaría a Marcin/

El gobierno instituye un bloqueo a partir de mañana, pero no incluye los salones de belleza y peluquería, no creo que eso sea una necesidad en la vida de uno y ciertamente tiene el potencial de propagar el virus. Hemos tenido cierres antes, pero no duran lo suficiente como para frenar el virus. Ahora, en las regiones del norte, la variante británica se ha desbocado. Es sólo cuestión de tiempo que se extienda a nuestra región. Como es habitual, podría ser una sola persona que acuda a algún evento en el norte, se infecte, y lo traiga aquí. No estoy muy preocupado por Joan y por mí, porque casi no tenemos contacto directo con nadie. Sin embargo, siempre existe la posibilidad cuando voy de compras. Por eso voy tan temprano.

Cuando utilizo WhatApp en el teléfono, tardo una eternidad en escribir un mensaje debido a mi condición de temblor. El miércoles, el primo Andrzej me dijo que lo tenía en su PC. Lo descargué en este ordenador y ahora es mucho más fácil escribir un mensaje con este teclado. Gracias, Andrzej. 

Andrzej me impresiona. Cuando nos conocimos, sabía muy poco sobre PCs, pero gracias a su persistencia en aprender, ahora le pido consejo sobre cómo hacer diferentes cosas. Le admiro por ello.

Lockdown!

Starting this Saturday, the whole country will be in lockdown again. Hotels, cinemas, museums will be closed, and children from the youngest classes of elementary school will return to remote learning.

The third wave of the pandemic is accelerating. More than 25,000 coronavirus infections have been reported today alone. The Minister of Health has decided to return to the restrictions as we know them from last March.

Starting next Saturday, March 20, hotels will again be closed nationwide (except for workers' hotels) and shopping malls will be restricted. Cinemas, theaters, and museums will be closed once again, as well as sports facilities, swimming pools, saunas, and solariums. Restrictions will also apply to education. Children in grades I - III will return to distance learning, and further decisions on the return to hybrid learning will be presented after Easter.

On Easter, safety first.

The plight of COVID-19 necessitates a reduction in our social activities - unfortunately including during the Easter holidays. If we want to return to pre-pandemic times, we need to be responsible. We should therefore consider limiting our contacts during the Easter period to the immediate family, and postpone any meetings to another, safer time. A lot depends on us. Take care of yourself and your family.

Od najbliższej soboty cały kraj znów będzie zamknięty. Hotele, kina, muzea będą zamknięte, a dzieci z najmłodszych klas szkoły podstawowej wrócą do nauki zdalnej.

Trzecia fala pandemii nabiera tempa. Tylko dziś odnotowano ponad 25 tys. zakażeń koronawirusem. Minister zdrowia podjął decyzję o powrocie do ograniczeń, jakie znamy z marca ubiegłego roku.

Od najbliższej soboty, 20 marca, w całym kraju ponownie zamknięte będą hotele (z wyjątkiem hoteli robotniczych), a centra handlowe zostaną ograniczone. Ponownie zamknięte będą kina, teatry i muzea, a także obiekty sportowe, baseny, sauny i solaria. Ograniczenia dotyczyć będą także szkolnictwa. Elton John.

Joan is watching the concert(old) by Elton John in New York for his 60th birthday. He had a lot of stamina for a 60-year-old. The concert was 3 hours, 20 minutes long.

When I listen to him it always reminds me of when I was the university studying music. I one section of the building were practice rooms with a piano in each room. However, they were occupied by future musicians of all types on single instruments, like guitar, oboe, bass, flute, violin as well as pianists. 

One day while practicing, I heard a first-year student in the next room playing Elton John songs and singing. He was quite good at it. The university I attended was heavily classical music-oriented and it was unusual to hear Elton John songs being played. I enjoyed it.

Today, I put together the ingredients for chocolate snowball cookies. It is sitting in the refrigerator now until tomorrow when I will bake them after coming home from food shopping.

Joan ogląda koncert(stary) Eltona Johna w Nowym Jorku z okazji jego 60-tych urodzin. Miał dużo wytrzymałości jak na 60-latka. Koncert trwał 3 godziny i 20 minut.

Kiedy go słucham, zawsze przypomina mi się czas, kiedy byłem na uniwersytecie i studiowałem muzykę. W jednej z części budynku znajdowały się sale do ćwiczeń z fortepianem w każdej sali. Były one jednak zajęte przez przyszłych muzyków wszystkich typów na pojedynczych instrumentach, takich jak gitara, obój, kontrabas, flet, skrzypce, a także pianistów. 

Pewnego dnia podczas ćwiczeń usłyszałem, jak student pierwszego roku w sali obok gra piosenki Eltona Johna i śpiewa. Był w tym całkiem niezły. Uniwersytet, na który uczęszczałem, był mocno zorientowany na muzykę klasyczną i niecodziennie słyszałem, jak grają piosenki Eltona Johna. Podobało mi się to.

Dziś przygotowałam składniki na czekoladowe ciasteczka w kształcie kuli śnieżnej. Siedzą teraz w lodówce aż do jutra, kiedy to upiekę je po powrocie do domu z zakupów spożywczych.

Joan está viendo el concierto de Elton John en Nueva York por su 60º cumpleaños. Tenía mucho aguante para una persona de 60 años. El concierto duró 3 horas y 20 minutos.

Cuando lo escucho siempre me recuerda a cuando estaba en la universidad estudiando música. En una parte del edificio había salas de ensayo con un piano en cada habitación. Sin embargo, estaban ocupadas por futuros músicos de todo tipo con instrumentos individuales, como la guitarra, el oboe, el bajo, la flauta, el violín, además de pianistas. 

Un día, mientras practicaba, oí a un estudiante de primer año en la sala de al lado tocar canciones de Elton John y cantar. Lo hacía bastante bien. La universidad a la que asistía estaba muy orientada a la música clásica y no era habitual escuchar canciones de Elton John. Lo disfruté.

Hoy he preparado los ingredientes para las galletas de chocolate en forma de bola de nieve. Ahora están en la nevera hasta mañana, cuando las hornearé después de volver a casa de hacer la compra de alimentos.

Covid-19

The latest projection for Covid-19 is that we can expect a decrease in the average daily number of infections only after April 20. Currently, 700,000-900,000 people a month receive the first dose of the mRNA vaccine (Pfizer and Moderna), and around 800,000 people receive AstraZeneca. In addition, the forecast takes into account the fact that with each week the social acceptance of the applicable restrictions decreases - after a year of the pandemic, unfortunately, more and more people do not comply with the restrictions.

This week is probably the last week of an aggressive increase in daily infections. In the following weeks, the growth dynamics will decrease, but the 7-day average will continue to grow slowly. About 25% of Polish residents may already have immunity to the coronavirus (they are convalescents or have taken a vaccine). At the end of April, this percentage may increase to around 50%, and this should already be a clear and permanent brake on the development of the pandemic.

My first shot is this Friday but still, we don't have an appointment for Joan. Yesterday, I found out a close friend of ours now has the virus.

Najnowsza prognoza dla Covid-19 mówi, że spadku średniej dziennej liczby zakażeń możemy się spodziewać dopiero po 20 kwietnia. Obecnie 700-900 tys. osób miesięcznie otrzymuje pierwszą dawkę szczepionki mRNA (Pfizer i Moderna), a około 800 tys. osób otrzymuje szczepionkę AstraZeneca. Dodatkowo prognoza uwzględnia fakt, że z każdym tygodniem maleje akceptacja społeczna dla obowiązujących ograniczeń - po roku pandemii niestety coraz więcej osób nie stosuje się do ograniczeń.

Obecny tydzień jest prawdopodobnie ostatnim tygodniem agresywnego wzrostu dziennych zakażeń. W kolejnych tygodniach dynamika wzrostu będzie się zmniejszać, ale średnia 7-dniowa będzie nadal powoli rosła. Około 25% mieszkańców Polski może mieć już odporność na koronawirusa (są rekonwalescentami lub przyjęli szczepionkę). Pod koniec kwietnia odsetek ten może wzrosnąć do około 50%, a to już powinno być wyraźnym i trwałym hamulcem rozwoju pandemii.

Good Zurek.

The Zurek soup turned out good but a little different. Normally the soup has white kielbasa in it but I prefer to use a kabanosa type sausage because it has more flavor. However, this time I bought Kabanosa Picante so the soup had a tiny bit of hotness to it.  Next time I will use the white kielbasa, All in all, it was still good soup.

We had a nice Skype conversation with Karen at  16:30 instead of 17;30 because they have already moved their clocks ahead one hour. She had her friend, Gary, with her so we talked with both of them. He is a former environmental teacher from Northern Illinois University and interesting to talk with. He's very active in outdoor events like bicycling so that is good for Karen.

I've decided to stop orienting Joan to days or places when she says things like, " I have to go to work or I live in Chicago" Rather about maybe we should paint the house this year or are you going to plant the garden. Then try to point out where we live. It would be better to think like her and use that to form a conversation. I need more ways just to communicate with her.

We watched the movie, "The Post", last night. It was about the newspaper The Washington Post.           that was the Paper that printed the famous Pentagon Papers. It gave top secret information about what the government really thought about the Vietnam War. I didn't know the owner of the paper was a woman and it was her decision to print the papers against the strong protest by the government. There should be more people like her in the media today instead of Rupert Murdoch and his family.

Zupa żurek okazała się dobra, ale trochę inna. Normalnie w zupie jest biała kiełbasa, ale ja wolę używać kiełbasy typu kabanosa, bo ma więcej smaku. Tym razem jednak kupiłam Kabanosa Picante, więc zupa miała w sobie odrobinę ostrości.  Następnym razem użyję białej kiełbasy, Podsumowując, to wciąż była dobra zupa.

Mieliśmy miłą rozmowę przez Skype z Karen o 16:30 zamiast o 17:30, ponieważ oni już przesunęli swoje zegary o jedną godzinę do przodu. Miała swojego przyjaciela, Gary'ego, z nią, więc rozmawialiśmy z nimi obojgiem. Jest on byłym nauczycielem ochrony środowiska z Northern Illinois University i ciekawie się z nim rozmawiało. Jest bardzo aktywny w wydarzeniach na świeżym powietrzu, takich jak jazda na rowerze, więc to jest dobre dla Karen.

Nie wiedziałem, że właścicielka gazety była kobietą i to ona zdecydowała się wydrukować te dokumenty wbrew ostrym protestom rządu. W dzisiejszych mediach powinno być więcej takich ludzi jak ona, a nie Rupert Murdoch i jego rodzina.

La sopa Zurek salió buena pero un poco diferente. Normalmente la sopa lleva kielbasa blanca pero yo prefiero usar una salchicha tipo kabanosa porque tiene más sabor. Sin embargo, esta vez compré Kabanosa Picante por lo que la sopa tenía un poco de picante.  La próxima vez usaré la kielbasa blanca, Con todo, seguía siendo una buena sopa.

Tuvimos una agradable conversación por Skype con Karen a las 16:30 en lugar de las 17:30 porque ya han adelantado sus relojes una hora. Ella tenía a su amigo, Gary, con ella así que hablamos con los dos. Es un antiguo profesor de medio ambiente de la Universidad del Norte de Illinois y es interesante hablar con él. Entonces trata de señalar dónde vivimos. Sería mejor pensar como ella y usar eso para formar una conversación. Necesito más formas de comunicarme con ella.

Anoche vimos la película "The Post". Era sobre el periódico The Washington Post, que fue el que imprimió los famosos Papeles del Pentágono. Daba información de alto secreto sobre lo que realmente pensaba el gobierno sobre la guerra de Vietnam. No sabía que la dueña del periódico era una mujer y que fue ella quien decidió imprimir los papeles en contra de la fuerte protesta del gobierno. Debería haber más gente como ella en los medios de comunicación hoy en día en lugar de Rupert Murdoch y su familia.

Zurek day

 I told you a Skype friend recommended I watch the movie, Supernova, and I did. It was a movie about dementia. Yesterday, I Skyped with him again and he told me a little bit about the movie. However, nothing he described was in the movie I saw and when I told him that, he said he forgot to mention it was a Polish movie. I watched one that had the same name but it was an American film, completely different from the topic of his film. What a coincidence that two movies have the same name!

We didn't do much today out of the ordinary daily chores. I made French toast with a yogurt topping for breakfast and for dinner I cheated on cooking and just had frozen pizza. At least once each week I don't cook, just take a little break from it.

In the afternoon, we watched the 7 episodes of  Queen's Gambit. Joan didn't remember seeing it before so it was all new to her.

Today is the day I made the Zurek soup using the "starter" zakwas that I made 6 days ago. In it, I put kabanosa, onions, bacon, a bay leaf, garlic. salt, pepper, marjoram, and mushrooms.

Here in Poland, the Polish health ministry reported 21,049 new Covid-19 infections and 343 deaths. The British variant of the Covid-19 virus has spread rapidly in Poland's northern Pomorskie province, and is currently responsible for most new infections in the region, the province's head physician told PAP on Saturday.

 Mówiłem ci, że przyjaciel ze Skype'a polecił mi obejrzenie filmu "Supernova" i tak też zrobiłem. To był film o demencji. Wczoraj znowu z nim rozmawiałem na Skypie i opowiedział mi trochę o tym filmie. Jednak nic, co opisał, nie było w filmie, który widziałem, a kiedy mu o tym powiedziałem, powiedział, że zapomniał wspomnieć, że to polski film. Oglądałem film o tej samej nazwie, ale był to film amerykański, zupełnie inny od tematu jego filmu. Co za zbieg okoliczności, że dwa filmy mają taką samą nazwę!

Nie zrobiliśmy dziś zbyt wiele poza zwykłymi codziennymi obowiązkami. Na śniadanie zrobiłam tosty francuskie z polewą jogurtową, a na kolację oszukałam gotowanie i zjadłam mrożoną pizzę. Przynajmniej raz w tygodniu nie gotuję, po prostu robię sobie od tego małą przerwę.

Po południu obejrzeliśmy 7 odcinków Queen's Gambit. Joan nie pamiętała, że widziała to wcześniej, więc wszystko było dla niej nowe.

Dzisiaj zrobiłam zupę żurkową z zakwasu, który zrobiłam 6 dni temu. Włożyłam do niego kabanosy, cebulę, boczek, liść laurowy, czosnek, sól, pieprz, majeranek i grzyby.

W Polsce ministerstwo zdrowia odnotowało 21 049 nowych przypadków zakażeń wirusem Covid-19 i 343 zgony. Brytyjska odmiana wirusa Covid-19 szybko rozprzestrzeniła się w północnym województwie pomorskim i jest obecnie odpowiedzialna za większość nowych zakażeń w regionie - powiedział PAP w sobotę główny lekarz wojewódzki.

Te dije que un amigo de Skype me recomendó que viera la película Supernova, y lo hice. Era una película sobre la demencia. Ayer, volví a hablar con él por Skype y me contó un poco sobre la película. Sin embargo, nada de lo que describió estaba en la película que vi y cuando se lo dije, me dijo que se le había olvidado mencionar que era una película polaca. Vi una que tenía el mismo nombre pero era una película americana, completamente diferente al tema de su película. ¡Qué casualidad que dos películas tengan el mismo nombre!

Hoy no hemos hecho mucho fuera de las tareas cotidianas. Hice tostadas francesas con una cobertura de yogur para el desayuno y para la cena hice trampa en la cocina y sólo comí pizza congelada. Al menos una vez a la semana no cocino, sólo me tomo un pequeño descanso.

Por la tarde, vimos los 7 episodios de Queen's Gambit. Joan no recordaba haberla visto antes, así que era todo nuevo para ella.

Hoy es el día en que he hecho la sopa Zurek utilizando los zakwas "de entrada" que hice hace 6 días. Le he puesto kabanosa, cebolla, tocino, una hoja de laurel, ajo, sal, pimienta, mejorana y champiñones.

Today was the day to get the next three months' supply of medications. At the apteka I was pleasantly surprised to be told that some more of our medications were put on the free list. What would have cost me 495PLN($129) now only costs 83PLN($22). What a wonderful surprise! It pays to be 75 years old. :-)

If there is a bright side to dementia, it may be that Joan does not remember many of the movies and serials I have on external drives. I don't have to search for new movies. Of course, there is no real benefit to this dreaded disease the eats away at her mind. It's just a way for me to cope with this.

I recommend watching the movie, Supernova, with Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci. It gives a visual view of what it is like for the patient and the caregiver.

Dzisiaj był dzień, w którym trzeba było załatwić kolejny trzymiesięczny zapas leków. W aptece byłem mile zaskoczony, gdy dowiedziałem się, że kilka naszych leków zostało wpisanych na listę bezpłatnych. To, co kosztowałoby mnie 495PLN (129$) teraz kosztuje tylko 83PLN (22$). Co za wspaniała niespodzianka! Opłaca się mieć 75 lat :-)

Jeśli jest jakaś jasna strona demencji, to może być nią to, że Joanna nie pamięta wielu filmów i seriali, które mam na dyskach zewnętrznych. Nie muszę szukać nowych filmów. Oczywiście, nie ma żadnej realnej korzyści z tej strasznej choroby, która zżera jej umysł. Jest to dla mnie tylko sposób na radzenie sobie z tym.

Polecam obejrzenie filmu "Supernova" z Colinem Firthem i Stanleyem Tucci. Daje on wizualny obraz tego, jak to jest dla pacjenta i jego opiekuna.

Hoy era el día para conseguir el suministro de medicamentos para los próximos tres meses. En la apteka me sorprendió gratamente que me dijeran que algunos de nuestros medicamentos se habían puesto en la lista gratuita. Lo que me habría costado 495PLN (129 dólares) ahora solo cuesta 83PLN (22 dólares). ¡Qué maravillosa sorpresa! Vale la pena tener 75 años :-)

Si la demencia tiene un lado positivo, es que Joan no recuerda muchas de las películas y series que tengo en discos externos. No tengo que buscar películas nuevas. Por supuesto, no hay ningún beneficio real en esta temida enfermedad que carcome su mente. Es sólo una forma de sobrellevar esto.

Recomiendo ver la película Supernova, con Colin Firth y Stanley Tucci. Da una visión de lo que es para el paciente y el cuidador

My dream.

I had the most bizarre dream last night. So bizarre, that after sleeping for only 2 hours, I woke up and am sitting here at 3:15 writing about it before I forget it.

We, Joan and I, Mike Davis, and Mary O'Donnell, were at my house in the forest of the U.P on a warm and sunny day.  We wanted to go to the beach in the town of Marquette, about 10 miles away. We packed lunches in our backpacks and got into Mary's car to drive to the access road to the beach off the main highway. It had rained heavily the day before so the water level was high.

We got to the access road, turned onto it, and about halfway to our destination, we found the road under a lot of water. So much water that the car could not go through it. We decided to swim to the dry part and then walk the rest of the way, about 2 miles. We parked the car on a high spot and walked to stairs leading back down to the road.

Mike stepped first on the stairs and was joking around when he fell, head first, down the stairs into the water. I jumped in to rescue him in case he had been hurt during the fall. He wasn't, and popped-up a minute later in the water. He laughed and continued swimming to the other side. Mary, Joan and I went int to the water to also swim there. In my dream, I could vividly see Mike and Mary but Joan was just a presence I felt. There was no visual of her in my dream.

The four of us reached the other side and got to the beach via a staircase that led to an overhead trap door. I went first up the stairs and pushed the door open. Getting out on the beach, I waited for the next person to appear from the door. I turned to look at the water and when I heard someone coming up, I was shocked to see it was my first wife, Margaret. I have no idea why it was her in the dream. I haven't thought about her in a few years since my son, Eric, suddenly died. However, her appearance was such a shock that it actually woke me up and so, at 3:41 in the morning, here I am relating this tale and going back to bed. It's a mystery how the subconscious mind works. Moreover, it gave me a visual of 2 of the best friends I had when living in the U.P. It's just strange that I felt the presence of Joan but yet it was an appearance of my first wife. I don't think I will relate this dream to Joan.

Tej nocy miałem najbardziej dziwaczny sen. Tak dziwaczny, że po przespaniu zaledwie 2 godzin, obudziłem się i siedzę tu o 3:15 opisując go, zanim o nim l zapomnę.

Joan i ja, Mike Davis i Mary O'Donnell, byliśmy w moim domu w lesie na U.P. w ciepły i słoneczny dzień. Chcieliśmy pójść na plażę w miasteczku Marquette, około 10 mil stąmtąd. Spakowaliśmy prowiant do plecaków i wsiedliśmy do samochodu Mary, aby dojechać do drogi dojazdowej do plaży przy głównej autostradzie. Dzień wcześniej mocno padało, więc poziom wody był wysoki.

Dotarliśmy do drogi dojazdowej, skręciliśmy na nią i mniej więcej w połowie drogi do celu znaleźliśmy drogę pod dużą ilością wody. Wody było tak dużo, że samochód nie mógł przez nią przejechać. Mike wszedł pierwszy na schody i żartował sobie, kiedy spadł głową w dół wzdłuż schodów do wody. Wskoczyłem, żeby go uratować, na wypadek gdyby się zranił podczas upadku. Nic mu się nie stało i po chwili wynurzył się w wodzie. Śmiał się i kontynuował pływanie na drugą stronę. Mary, Joan i ja poszliśmy do wody, aby przepłynąć na drugą stronę. W moim śnie widziałem Mike'a i Mary, ale tylko wyczuwałem obecność Joan była. Nie było jej w moim śnie.

Nasza czwórka dotarła na drugą stronę i dostała się na plażę po schodach, które prowadziły do klapy na ich górze. Wszedłem pierwszy po schodach i pchnąłem drzwi. Jednak jej pojawienie się było takim szokiem, że właściwie mnie to obudziło i tak o 3:41 nad ranem opowiadam tę historię i wracam do łóżka. Jak umysł działa w podświadomosci to naprawdę jest tajemnica. Co więcej, zobaczyłem dwoje najlepszych przyjaciół, których miałem mieszkając na U.P. To dziwne, że czułem obecność Joanny, a jednak była to postać mojej pierwszej żony. Nie sądzę, abym opowiedzial Joan ten sen.

Anoche tuve un sueño de lo más extraño. Tan extraño, que después de dormir sólo 2 horas, me desperté y estoy sentado aquí a las 3:15 escribiendo sobre él antes de que lo olvide.

Nosotros, Joan y yo, Mike Davis, y Mary O'Donnell, estábamos en mi casa en el bosque del U.P en un día cálido y soleado.  Queríamos ir a la playa en la ciudad de Marquette, a unos 16 kilómetros de distancia. Metimos los almuerzos en las mochilas y nos subimos al coche de Mary para ir a la carretera de acceso a la playa que sale de la autopista principal. El día anterior había llovido mucho, así que el nivel del agua era alto.

Llegamos a la carretera de acceso, giramos por ella y, a mitad de camino hacia nuestro destino, nos encontramos con que la carretera estaba llena de agua. Había tanta agua que el coche no podía atravesarla. Decidimos nadar hasta la parte seca y luego caminar el resto del camino, unos 3 kilómetros. Aparcamos el coche en un lugar alto y caminamos hasta unas escaleras que bajaban a la carretera.

Mike fue el primero en subir las escaleras y estaba bromeando cuando se cayó, de cabeza, al agua. Me lancé a rescatarle por si se había hecho daño durante la caída. No lo estaba, y se levantó un minuto después en el agua. Se rió y siguió nadando hacia el otro lado. Mary, Joan y yo fuimos al agua para nadar también allí. En mi sueño, podía ver vívidamente a Mike y a Mary, pero Joan era sólo una presencia que sentía. No había ninguna imagen de ella en mi sueño.

Los cuatro llegamos al otro lado y llegamos a la playa a través de una escalera que conducía a una trampilla superior. Subí primero las escaleras y empujé la puerta para abrirla. Health system

Since the health care system(NFZ) went digital, it's much easier to get a prescription refill. Before, just to get a refill. you had to make an appointment for a future date, go there, wait to get in, and then he/she would write out the prescription. Including travel time, it could take 2 hours or more of your day.

Now, I just send an email to the doctor, he puts the information into the system, receives a coded number for it, and then sends me an SMS with the number. I take the number to the Apteka and they put it back into the system to see which medicine is needed. It is much more efficient. Plus, being over 75 years old, of the 3 medicines I take, 3 of them are free of cost to me. Instead of paying $80(308PLN) for a three-month supply, I pay $20(77PLN).

A few years ago I received an email from a lady who was planning to move from the U.S to Poland, asking me for advice on different topics Joan and I have had experience in making the move. Yesterday, she wrote and said this is the year they will move. They are coming next month and staying 3 months to supervise the completion of their house and will completely move in the autumn. It makes me happy to be of some help to them.

Od momentu, kiedy system opieki zdrowotnej (NFZ) poszedł na system cyfrowy dużo łatwiej jest uzyskać ponowne wypisanie recepty. Przyjeżdżają w przyszłym miesiącu i zostaną 3 miesiące, aby nadzorować wykończenie domu, a jesienią całkowicie się przeprowadzą. Hace unos años recibí un correo electrónico de una señora que estaba planeando mudarse de los EE.UU. a Polonia, pidiéndome consejo sobre diferentes temas Joan y yo hemos tenido experiencia en hacer la mudanza. Ayer me escribió y me dijo que este es el año en que se mudarán. Vendrán el mes que viene y se quedarán 3 meses para supervisar la terminación de su casa y se mudarán completamente en otoño. Me hace feliz ser de alguna ayuda para ellos.

I have to admit something to you, I've been in love with another woman since 1968. It's a different kind of love than with Joan.

I first saw her when I was living in Washington D.C. and working in a store where vinyl records were sold. In those days, record companies had promoters whose job was to promote their latest record release through radio, newspapers, and record stores.

One day, the promoter from Reprise records came in and gave me a promotional record for their latest new artist. He also said she would be performing the next night at the Cellar Door. The Cellar Door was a 163-seat music club located at 34th & M Street in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington. D.C. He said he had front-row seat tickets for the performance if I wanted to go. Free tickets? Of course, I accepted it.

The next night, I took a taxi from my flat on 16th street, several blocks up from the White House, to the Door and arrived about 15 minutes before the performance at 20:00(8PM). My seat was right in the middle in front of the stage about 10 feet in front of me. On it was just a chair and microphone.

A few minutes after 20:00, a tall, long blond hair woman came out with a guitar and sat down. She seemed a little nervous as she said hello and that her name was Joni Mitchell. She started out with her song, "Michael from Mountains" and finished with her song recorded already by other artists like Judy Collins and Tom Rush, "Both Sides Now".  By the time she was done, I was in love with her. She touched my soul with the beautiful lyrics she had written for each song she performed.

That was 53 years ago and I am still listening to her songs. Time and cigarette smoking have taken most of that beautiful voice away over the years but her lyrics are still just as descriptive and powerful. Her words have touched the hearts of millions of people, around the world. She is a musician for the world.

El tiempo y el hábito de fumar se han llevado la mayor parte de esa hermosa voz a lo largo de los años, pero sus letras siguen siendo igual de descriptivas y poderosas. Cookies

The batch of Healthy Oatmeal Cookies I made last week didn't really turn out that good. Maybe they were more healthy but the taste was bland. I found another recipe yesterday and decided to try it today. I had all the ingredients except for enough(3 cups) of oatmeal, and brown sugar no oatmeal. I took the car and went to Bedronka thinking they would surely have it. My third trip was a little farther away, the old Piotr & Pawel where I finally found oatmeal/ This all took a little over an hour to accomplish.

After a nice breakfast of a German oven pancake with yogurt, I enlisted Joan's help in mixing all the cookie ingredients. It took a little while. She wanted to do it by hand instead of a mechanical mixer. When it was all mixed, we put the walnut-sized cookies on the baking sheets and baked them for 12 minutes. They are MUCH better in this recipe/ In total we made 36, enough to give our neighbor some.

The sun was out all day and even though it was a little chilly, I feel Spring is just around the corner.

Partia Zdrowych Ciasteczek Owsianych, którą zrobiłem w zeszłym tygodniu nie okazała się zbyt dobra. Może i były zdrowsze, ale smak był nijaki. Wczoraj znalazłem inny przepis i postanowiłem wypróbować go dzisiaj. Miałem wszystkie składniki oprócz wystarczającej ilości(3 filiżanki) płatków owsianych, i brązowego cukru. Wzięłem samochód i pojechałem do Biedronki myśląc, że na pewno będą je mieli. Trzecią wycieczkę odbyłem trochę dalej, do starego Piotra i Pawła, gdzie w końcu znalazłem płatki owsiane. To wszystko zajęło mi trochę ponad godzinę.

Po pysznym śniadaniu w postaci niemieckiego naleśnika z piekarnika z jogurtem, poprosiłem Joannę o pomoc w wymieszaniu wszystkich składników na ciasteczka. Trochę to trwało. Chciała to zrobić ręcznie, a nie mechanicznym mikserem. Kiedy wszystko było już wymieszane, wyłożyłyśmy ciasteczka wielkości orzecha włoskiego na blachy i piekliśmy je przez 12 minut. W sumie zrobiliśmy ich 36, czyli tyle, żeby obdarować sąsiadkę.

Słońce świeciło cały dzień i mimo, że było trochę chłodno, czuję, że wiosna jest tuż za rogiem.

La tanda de galletas de avena saludables que hice la semana pasada no me salió tan bien. Quizás eran más saludables pero el sabor era insípido. Ayer encontré otra receta y decidí probarla hoy. Tenía todos los ingredientes excepto la cantidad suficiente (3 tazas) de harina de avena, y el azúcar moreno sin avena. Cogí el coche y fui a Bedronka pensando que seguramente lo tendrían. Mi tercer viaje fue un poco más lejos, el viejo Piotr & Pawel donde finalmente encontré avena/ Todo esto tomó un poco más de una hora para lograr.

Después de un buen desayuno de una tortita al horno alemana con yogur, pedí ayuda a Joan para mezclar todos los ingredientes de las galletas. Me llevó un poco de tiempo. Ella quería hacerlo a mano en lugar de con una batidora mecánica. Cuando estuvo todo mezclado, pusimos las galletas del tamaño de una nuez en las bandejas de horno y las horneamos durante 12 minutos. Están MUCHO mejor en esta receta/ En total hicimos 36, suficientes para dar a nuestro vecino algunas.

El sol salió todo el día y aunque hizo un poco de frío, siento que la primavera está a la vuelta de la esquina.

NOT good news.

 Health Minister Adam Niedzielski cautioned at a press conference on Friday that the expected number of daily coronavirus infections could surpass 18,000. He added that a lot depends on adhering to sanitary restrictions. He also specified conditions for the binding limitations to be eased.

"We can see the third wave is gaining momentum. We're surpassing 15,000 cases daily. Given the dynamic of the pandemic, next week we may see 18.000 daily infections or more"- Mr. Niedzielski said on Friday.

That is not good news. Instead of the numbers going down, they are going up by 30% daily. Yet, I have seen more people wearing masks than ever.

Minister zdrowia Adam Niedzielski ostrzegł na konferencji prasowej w piątek, że przewidywana liczba zakażeń koronawirusem dziennie może przekroczyć 18 tys. Dodał, że wiele zależy od przestrzegania ograniczeń sanitarnych. Określił również warunki złagodzenia obowiązujących ograniczeń.  

"Widzimy, że trzecia fala nabiera rozpędu. Przekraczamy 15 000 przypadków dziennie. Biorąc pod uwagę dynamikę pandemii, w przyszłym tygodniu możemy zobaczyć 18 000 lub więcej infekcji dziennie” - powiedział w piątek Niedzielski. To nie jest dobra wiadomość. Zamiast spadać, codziennie rosną o 30%. Jednak widziałem więcej ludzi noszących maski niż kiedykolwiek.
