Aging.
Mary posted the top picture of me from 1976 and below is my post, 43 years later. I've aged a little. The hair is a little shorter, by choice, but it could be just as long only all gray or silver as Joan calls it. At that age, 42, I was living in the forest of the U.P and now I'm living in Poland. My, how life changes when you want it to. If you set a goal and work steadily toward it, it can be accomplished. I wanted to build my own house in the forest without any knowledge how to. I read lots of books, made plans, drawings, talked to people who had done it and finally did it. We wanted to move to Poland at age 62. We started learning the language, spent a year collecting all the required documents, packed what we wanted to take with us and at age 63, we moved. We visited many countries but the visits are planned months ahead of time and only on this one did we forget some things. The point is..goals are good but you need a plan to reach them successfully. We have another goal in mind for our future and the plan has many hurdles to overcome. How we handle them determines our future. Age is definitely a factor now but not one we have any control over so not one to consider worrying about.
Today was visit Cartagena day for the three of us. Mary arrived at 11 and off we went.
It only took 30 minutes to get there. We found our first destination, the Cultural Center, high atop a hill overlooking the city and were looking forward to taking to glass-floored elevator to the very top. It didn't happen. The elevator wasn't working so we had to settle with just the views of the city from the first floor but they were still very nice. We walked around taking pictures, observed 2 peacocks in our path, sat in the sun for a while and then drove to our next destination, the old City Hall.
We parked underground and walked a few blocks to the main area where it was and were just in time for a guided tour by a young woman who spoke both Spanish and English. The tour guide showed us the meeting chamber, the conference room, the secretary's office which is unused and the room where the mayor greets people. She explained the history of each room and the building in both languages. The tour lasted about 45 minutes. The cost was only 1 Euro per person.
After we were done, we went outside into the sunshine and chose a sunny restaurant, Yellow Submarine, to have lunch. Mary and I had salads and Joan had a Yellow Submarine sandwich consisting of guacamole, ham, cheese and lettuce. By the time we finished it was 15:30 so we headed back to Ribera.
Mary returned home to go for a bike ride and Joan began preparing paprakasz for dinner. Tomorrow Mary will Joan us for breakfast of oatmeal with strawberries and then we will go to the street market for Mary to see.
Mary opublikowa艂a moje pierwsze zdj臋cie z 1976 roku, a poni偶ej jest moje stanowisko, 43 lata p贸藕niej. Troch臋 si臋 postarza艂em. W wieku 42 lat mieszka艂em w lesie UP, a teraz mieszkam w Polsce. Je艣li wyznaczysz cel i b臋dziesz pracowa艂 w jego kierunku, mo偶esz to osi膮gn膮膰. Czyta艂em du偶o ksi膮偶ek, robi艂em plany, rysunki, rozmawia艂em z lud藕mi, kt贸rzy to zrobili i wreszcie to zrobili. Chcieli艣my przenie艣膰 si臋 do Polski w wieku 62 lat. Zacz臋li艣my uczy膰 si臋 j臋zyka, sp臋dzili艣my rok zbieraj膮c wszystkie wymagane dokumenty, spakowali艣my to, co chcieli艣my zabra膰 ze sob膮, aw wieku 63 lat przeprowadzili艣my si臋. Odwiedzili艣my wiele kraj贸w, ale wizyty planowane s膮 na miesi膮ce przed czasem i tylko na tym jednym zapomnieli艣my o pewnych rzeczach. Mamy inny cel w naszej przysz艂o艣ci, a plan ma wiele przeszk贸d do przezwyci臋偶enia. Spos贸b, w jaki sobie z nimi radzimy, determinuje nasz膮 przysz艂o艣膰.
Dzisiaj by艂 dzie艅 Cartagena dla naszej tr贸jki. Mary przyby艂a o 11, a my poszli艣my.Dotarcie do niego zaj臋艂o 30 minut.
Znale藕li艣my nasz pierwszy cel, Centrum Kultury, wysoko na szczycie wzg贸rza z widokiem na miasto i nie mogli艣my si臋 doczeka膰, by wzi膮膰 szklan膮 wind臋 na sam szczyt. Tak si臋 nie sta艂o. Winda nie dzia艂a艂a, wi臋c musieli艣my zadowoli膰 si臋 widokami miasta z pierwszego pi臋tra, ale nadal by艂y bardzo 艂adne. Chodzili艣my po okolicy robi膮c zdj臋cia, obserwuj膮c 2 pawie na naszej drodze, siedzieli艣my przez chwil臋 w s艂o艅cu, a nast臋pnie pojechali艣my do naszego nast臋pnego celu, starego ratusza.
Zaparkowali艣my pod ziemi膮 i przeszli艣my kilka przecznic do g艂贸wnego miejsca, w kt贸rym si臋 znajdowa艂o, i zd膮偶yli艣my na wycieczk臋 z przewodnikiem przez m艂od膮 kobiet臋, kt贸ra m贸wi艂a po hiszpa艅sku i angielsku. Przewodnik pokaza艂 nam sal臋 posiedze艅, sal臋 konferencyjn膮, nieu偶ywane biuro sekretarza oraz sal臋, w kt贸rej burmistrz wita ludzi. Wyja艣ni艂a histori臋 ka偶dego pokoju i budynku w obu j臋zykach. Trasa trwa艂a oko艂o 45 minut. Koszt by艂 tylko 1 euro za osob臋.
Kiedy sko艅czyli艣my, wybrali艣my si臋 na s艂o艅ce i wybrali艣my s艂oneczn膮 restauracj臋 Yellow Submarine na lunch. Mary i ja mieli艣my sa艂atki, a Joan kanapk臋 Yellow Submarine sk艂adaj膮c膮 si臋 z guacamole, szynki, sera i sa艂aty. Kiedy sko艅czyli艣my, by艂o 15:30, wi臋c wr贸cili艣my do Ribera.
Mary wr贸ci艂a do domu, aby wybra膰 si臋 na przeja偶d偶k臋 rowerem, a Joan zacz臋艂a przygotowywa膰 paprakasa na kolacj臋. Jutro Maryja poka偶e nam Joann臋 na 艣niadanie z p艂atkami owsianymi z truskawkami, a potem p贸jdziemy na ulic臋, aby zobaczy膰 Mary.
