A first!

 Some years ago, a person contacted me from a blog I wrote. She was a Polish woman but had been living in the U.S. for some time. Her name was Anna and she was originally from Lublin. She was helpful when I started filling out my tax forms for the U.S. Over the years, we became friendly.

When I told her that Joan and I would visit the Lublin area, she arranged for us to stay in her sister's house. Her family lived very close together and we were able to visit with some of them.

When she read that Joan was going to make a cheesecake, she sent her family recipe.

A few days ago, I thought I would try to make it and asked Joan where the recipe was. Joan wasn't sure but thought she had put it into one of her recipe books which she has many. I searched through every book and could not find it. I remembered that I had copied it onto my laptop and searched there but to no avail. 

I wrote to Anna, explained what happened and she sent me a new copy of the recipe. Today, I successfully made the cheesecake.

Back in the war in Ukraine, Kremlin claims that Ukraine’s attack against Crimea on Monday failed with all incoming missiles shot down have been contradicted by Kyiv and other commentators.

 A Ukrainian army spokesman said on Tuesday that Kyiv had carried out a series of attacks by air and ground forces against multiple sites on the Crimean Peninsula that had overcome Russian defenses and left a key Russian air defense facility damaged.

A spokesman for Ukraine’s naval operations, Dmitry Peltenchuk, said the strikes had targeted Russian air defense systems over “a large area” in Crimea and confirmed that key elements of that equipment had been damaged.

He did not offer details on weapons systems used by Ukrainian forces nor say where precisely the attacks had taken place.   

Peltenchuk’s comments were the first official Kyiv comments on widespread reports in Ukrainian and Russian media on Monday that Ukrainian missiles had hit a Russian long-range S-300 anti-aircraft missile system air defense facility near the city of Yevpatoriya, on the west coast of the peninsula, putting it out of action and injuring at least 17 service personnel.

Kilka lat temu skontaktowała się ze mną osoba z bloga, który pisałem. Była Polką, ale od jakiegoś czasu mieszkała w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Miała na imię Anna i pochodziła z Lublina. Była pomocna, gdy zacząłem wypełniać formularze podatkowe dla USA. Z biegiem lat zaprzyjaźniliśmy się.

Kiedy powiedziałem jej, że Joan i ja odwiedzimy okolice Lublina, zorganizowała nam nocleg w domu swojej siostry. Jej rodzina mieszkała bardzo blisko siebie i mogliśmy odwiedzić niektórych z nich.

Kiedy przeczytała, że Joan zamierza upiec sernik, wysłała swój rodzinny przepis.

Kilka dni temu pomyślałam, że spróbuję go zrobić i zapytałam Joan, gdzie jest przepis. Joan nie była pewna, ale pomyślała, że umieściła go w jednej ze swoich książek z przepisami, których ma wiele. Przeszukałam wszystkie książki i nie mogłam go znaleźć. Przypomniałam sobie, że skopiowałam go na laptopa i tam go szukałam, ale bezskutecznie. 

Napisałam do Anny, wyjaśniłam co się stało, a ona wysłała mi nową kopię przepisu. Dzisiaj udało mi się zrobić sernik.

Wracając do wojny na Ukrainie, twierdzenia Kremla, że atak Ukrainy na Krym w poniedziałek nie powiódł się, a wszystkie nadlatujące pociski zostały zestrzelone, zostały zaprzeczone przez Kijów i innych komentatorów.

Rzecznik ukraińskiej armii powiedział we wtorek, że Kijów przeprowadził serię ataków sił powietrznych i lądowych na wiele obiektów na Półwyspie Krymskim, które pokonały rosyjską obronę i uszkodziły kluczowy rosyjski obiekt obrony powietrznej.
