Rynek Update

Thanks to wpoznaniu.pl and photographer Lukasz Gdak, I posted the latest pictures of the Rynek. it is still not completed but appears there is a more passable way for people to walk around. If it was warmer I would take Joan to see what it looks like now. For many years we visited it frequently in the spring, summer, and autumn. With life's conditions much different now, it's not so easy.

Living in Poland, I naturally think about the war going on in Ukraine. Winter has set in there and the conditions for the soldiers are terrible. It's not only the conditions, they need more weapons. It is time for all of Europe to increase the supply to them. The U.S., 5000 miles away, has done more of its share of helping Ukraine. European countries are more in danger than the U.S. should Russia succeed in the war. That seems likely because they have more soldiers and many more weapons. I seriously doubt Russia will stop it Ukraine. Among the 4 small nations in Europe, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Austria, only the Czech Republic supports Ukraine. The Baltic republics and Poland immediately sided with Ukraine.  While the four smaller ones are all in the EU, they are not major European powers. But two of them – Hungary and Slovakia – border Ukraine, which can make Russian sympathies in both nations hard on Ukraine. All of Europe is in more danger than the U.S. yet its best supporter is the U.S. That is changing andI hope Europe realizes it.

Dzięki wpoznaniu.pl i fotografowi Łukaszowi Gdakowi zamieściłem najnowsze zdjęcia Rynku. Nadal nie jest ukończony, ale wygląda na to, że dla ludzi jest latwiejszy w poruszaniy się. Gdyby było cieplej, zabrałbym Joan, żeby zobaczyła, jak to teraz wygląda. Przez wiele lat odwiedzaliśmy go często wiosną, latem i jesienią. Teraz, gdy warunki życia są znacznie inne, nie jest to takie łatwe.

Mieszkając w Polsce, naturalnie myślę o wojnie toczącej się w Ukrainie. Nastała zima, a warunki dla żołnierzy są straszne. Nie chodzi tylko o warunki, oni potrzebują więcej broni. Nadszedł czas, aby cała Europa zwiększyła jej dostawy. Stany Zjednoczone, oddalone o 5000 mil, zrobiły więcej niż inni, aby pomóc Ukrainie. Kraje europejskie są bardziej zagrożone niż USA, jeśli Rosja odniesie sukces w wojnie. Wydaje się to prawdopodobne, ponieważ mają więcej żołnierzy i dużo więcej broni. Poważnie wątpię, że Rosja zatrzyma Ukrainę. Spośród 4 małych narodów w Europie, Węgier, Słowacji, Czech i Austrii tylko Czechy wspierają Ukrainę. Republiki bałtyckie i Polska natychmiast stanęły po stronie Ukrainy.  Chociaż wszystkie cztery mniejsze kraje należą do UE, nie są one głównymi potęgami europejskimi. Ale dwa z nich - Węgry i Słowacja - graniczą z Ukrainą, co może sprawić, że rosyjskie sympatie w obu krajach będą dla Ukrainy trudne. Cała Europa jest w większym niebezpieczeństwie niż Stany Zjednoczone, ale jej najlepszym wsparciem jest USA. To się zmienia i mam nadzieję, że Europa zdaje sobie z tego sprawę.
