A day in the life.

This morning started off with a reading of a short Polish story and then at 9:00 Carmelo called me on Skype to talk. We talked on various subjects, politics in our two counties, the weather. the use of different Spanish verbs and we stopped at 10:00. At 10:30, cousin Chiara came over to visit and practice her English but also to learn a little Spanish.

I showed her how I got started learning Spanish and we went over a first lesson it  When it was done she was very enthused with her short progress. I think it will give her the motivation to add this language to her language skills. She already speaks Polish, German and English. She stayed for about 1 1/2 hours and then had to leave.

The sun had finally broken through the clouds and the sky was blue with small clouds rolling in and out of it. I thought it would be a good day for us to be outside so we went to the town center. After a little walk around we decided on a cup of coffee at Empik and watch the people.

We reminisced about our life in the woods and the things we miss and the things we don't miss.
We miss the peace and quiet, without sirens,  neighbors closeby, traffic all the time, noise and loud talking outside.

The other is the sounds of birds and animals that lived on our property.  Deer feeding in front of our house, a raccoon with four little babies, hummingbirds at the window feeder, a rare bear sighting with her cubs, these also we miss. We don't miss the ease of access to town or a doctor, the constant breakdown of generators, the extreme cold in winter, far too much snow, plowing the road every other day and isolation.

Ten poranek rozpocz膮艂 si臋 od przeczytania kr贸tkiej polskiej historii, a potem o 9:00 Carmelo zadzwoni艂 do mnie przez Skype, 偶eby porozmawia膰. Rozmawiali艣my na r贸偶ne tematy, polityk臋 w naszych dw贸ch okr臋gach, pogod臋. u偶ycie r贸偶nych hiszpa艅skich czasownik贸w i zatrzymali艣my si臋 o 10:00. O 10:30 kuzynka Chiara przysz艂a odwiedzi膰 i 膰wiczy膰 sw贸j angielski, ale tak偶e nauczy膰 si臋 troch臋 hiszpa艅skiego.

Pokaza艂em jej, jak zacz膮艂em uczy膰 si臋 hiszpa艅skiego i przeszli艣my przez pierwsz膮 lekcj臋. Kiedy sko艅czy艂a, by艂a bardzo zachwycona swoim kr贸tkim post臋pem. My艣l臋, 偶e to da jej motywacj臋 do dodania tego j臋zyka do swoich umiej臋tno艣ci j臋zykowych. Ona ju偶 m贸wi po polsku, niemiecku i angielsku. Zosta艂a na oko艂o 1 1/2 godziny, a potem musia艂a wyjecha膰.

S艂o艅ce w ko艅cu przebi艂o si臋 przez chmury, a niebo sta艂o si臋 niebieskie, a ma艂e chmury zacz臋艂y si臋 z niego wy艂ania膰. My艣la艂em, 偶e to b臋dzie dobry dzie艅, 偶eby艣my byli na zewn膮trz, wi臋c pojechali艣my do centrum miasta. Po kr贸tkim spacerze zdecydowali艣my si臋 na fili偶ank臋 kawy w Empiku i obserwowali艣my ludzi.

Drugi to d藕wi臋ki ptak贸w i zwierz膮t, kt贸re 偶y艂y na naszej posesji. Karmienie jeleni przed naszym domem, szop z czterema ma艂ymi dzie膰mi, kolibry przy podajniku okien, rzadkie obserwowanie nied藕wiedzia z m艂odymi, te te偶 t臋sknimy. Nie brakuje nam 艂atwo艣ci dost臋pu do miasta lub lekarza, ci膮g艂ego rozpadu generator贸w, ekstremalnego zimna w zimie, zbyt du偶ej ilo艣ci 艣niegu, orania drogi co drugi dzie艅 i izolacji.
