Places near Pobiedziska

The sun tricked us! The weather man said it would sunny today! At 1PM we headed north on route 5 to the Pobiedziska area search villages I knew had old palaces. 15 minutes into the half hour trip, clouds appeared and the sun was gone. What a dirty trick! Of curse it didn't change our minds and we continued to our fir destination, the village of Kowalskie. The manor house there looked almost new, a lot of work has been done on it. It's in a nice location with a large lake behind it but the most interesting thing was the construction of several large builings with thatched roofs, or what appears to be thatched roofs. They were behind a new fence so I wasn't able to get real close to them.

Leaving there we went on to Pomarzanowice to look at another place. This was also closed and is now a real estate agency and the farm bureau building. Maybe it will be open in the summer.

Kreslice was next on our list, a nice little palace but privately owned so pictures were from a distance. There was an impressive stone building to the right of it. I'm always infatuated with the way stone is used in building designs using different colors.

We were headed to Węglewo next but took the wrong road and stumbled on anothe old manor house that is now a school in Węgorzewie. The name Węglewo is in my family history as the residence of my great grandfather but it is a different village, close to Golina and now called Węglew.

Speaking of my family history, more has been uncovered with research. My great great great grandfather's wife, Marianna, had 3 brothers and 2 sisters, all born in Krasnica or Węglew. He, Walenty, also had at least one brother.

Ok, back to todays trip. We headed back towards Pobiedziska and saw three old windmills by the side of the road and I just had to stop and take pictures of them.

In Pobiedziska is the Skansen Minataur. It's an amazing display of famous buildings, built in miniature by one man and in an outside area. I've heard about it before so when I saw the sign I pulled in to investigate. There was a fee of 4zl to enter but it was worth the price to see this display. Many of the buildings I have see in reality and the minatures were perfect in their detail. The complete town square, Stary Rynek, of Poznań is there.

All of todays pictures are in the slideshow.

Opuszczenie tam poszliśmy dalej do Pomarzanowice by popatrzeć na inne miejsce.

Mojego wielkiego wielkiego wielkiego dziadka żona, Marianna, miała 3 braci i 2 siostry, wszystkie urodzone w Krasnica albo Węglew. On, Walenty, też miał przynajmniej jednego brata.

OK, w tył do dziś podróży.

  1. David,

Sounds like you had a great day, despite the weather. I have been to those windmills many years ago. The minature buildings look so detailed. I don't think that was there the last time I was there.

Glad to see that you are making progress in your genealogy.

    Hi...
    AGAIN....another great slide show!!
I loved the mini buildings---so much detail. Why can't America keep and preserve more of our old buildings...instead of tearing them down for parking lots??!!!!
Some of those old manor houses and palaces in Poland are huge and many in great shape for as old as they are.
Not long now!!! See you soon.
    Hugs, Marilyn
