Day 1(53)

An Angel chatted with me last night, a physiotherapist. She said she would come and show me the basics to work with Joan while I wait for the virus to weaken in Poland. I am so grateful to her. I was terrified I might be doing the wrong things. Now I am just waiting for Joan to arrive. I rented a rehabilitation bed for Joan and they will deliver it tomorrow. It is just like a hospital bed. It will be delivered and set up tomorrow morning at 8:00.

Last night I moved out the dressers from our bedroom to make room for the new bed. I washed clothes, cleaned the house, did the dishes and went to bed at midnight. Now, I am waiting. Terrified I won't be able to care for her well enough.

14:30-The ambulance arrived and they carried her upstairs and put her in her reclining chair. She was hungry so I gave her yogurt and made Joan a peanut butter and banana sandwiches with water. She loved it. I made sure she was warm enough and then we watched the movie, JoJo Rabbitt. After that, I connected her, via phone, with her daughter so they could talk. I am so happy she is home. She surprised me with her ability to sit up.

Zaskoczyła mnie swoją zdolnością do siedzenia.

  1. oh wow, so much news in the past two posts.

David, you are indeed a superman, and a super-man.

I saw first the picture of her at home and was so thrilled, but then read your post from the day prior and now see the stress and difficulty of her arrival back home.

I am sure by now you know you have made the right call, from the difficult choices available. Of course both of you will be better together and there is likely little they were doing for her there that you cannot do as well or better. And a professional therapist will be able to come when the virus lockdown is lifted, as it will be at some point.

I can only imagine the struggle you are facing with all of this. You and she are in our thoughts. Tell her your readers say "welcome back home" and "keep working on your rehab".

    Best regards,
    Dave

  2. Joan looks great considering what she has been through. I am sure being home with you will speed up her progress. Stay strong and stay safe. Shaz in Arizona.

  3. Thanks, Shaz. She does look good, considering all the traumas we've been through the last 2 months.

  4. Dave S. Today has shown me the reality of her being home. It's not more difficult than I thought it would be but it is difficult. Just moving her from the chair to the bed requires a lot of energy. When she is finally able to stand and walk a few steps, it will be easier. However, that may take some time and until then it is just good to be with her 24/7.
