I'm listening to the most creative pianist in Poland tonight, Leszek Możdżer. The album is "Smells Like Time". It's a trio with Leszek, bassist Lars Danielsson, and percussionist Zohar Fresco. Joan and I have seen him perform twice in Poznan so far. We like him very much. In some ways, he reminds me of Keith Jarrett.

In 1994, he claimed 1st place at the International Jazz Improvisation Contest in Katowice. In 1998, he received the Jazzman of the Year Fryderyk Award. In 1999, he became the laureate of the Gdansk Mayor Award for his outstanding artistic achievements. In 2001, he was awarded the Ad Astra Award bestowed by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage to "an outstanding young musician". In 2004, he received the Paszport Polityka Award in the entertainment category. In 2011, he won another Fryderyk Award for best original soundtrack for his album Kaczmarek by Możdżer, a collection of contemporary film music. In 2013, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

In 2010, he performed a special music show at the Węglowy Targ in Gdańsk as part of the Solidarity of Arts 2010 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the Solidarity movement as well as the 200th anniversary of Frederic Chopin's birth.

In 2012, he served as a member of the jury at the Montreux Jazz Piano Competition.

In 2017, his opera Immanuel Kant based on the works of Thomas Bernhard premiered at the Wroclaw.

Słucham dziś najbardziej kreatywnego pianisty w Polsce, Leszka Możdżera. Jego album to "Smells Like Time". To trio z Leszkiem, basistą Larsem Danielssonem i perkusistą Zoharem Fresco. Joan i ja widzieliśmy go do tej pory dwa razy w Poznaniu. Bardzo go lubimy. Pod pewnymi względami przypomina mi Keitha Jarretta.

W 1994 roku zajął I miejsce na Międzynarodowym Konkursie Improwizacji Jazzowej w Katowicach. W 1998 roku otrzymał nagrodę Jazzman Roku Fryderyk. W 1999 roku został laureatem Nagrody Prezydenta Miasta Gdańska za wybitne osiągnięcia artystyczne. W 2001 roku otrzymał nagrodę Ad Astra przyznawaną przez Ministerstwo Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego "wybitnemu młodemu muzykowi". W 2004 roku otrzymał nagrodę Paszport Polityki w kategorii rozrywka. W 2011 roku otrzymał kolejną nagrodę Fryderyka za najlepszą oryginalną ścieżkę dźwiękową za album Kaczmarek by Możdżer, będący zbiorem współczesnej muzyki filmowej. W 2013 roku został odznaczony Krzyżem Kawalerskim Orderu Odrodzenia Polski.

W 2010 roku wykonał specjalny program muzyczny na Węglowym Targu w Gdańsku w ramach Solidarity of Arts 2010 z okazji 30. rocznicy powstania Solidarności oraz 200. rocznicy urodzin Fryderyka Chopina.

W 2012 roku zasiadał w jury Montreux Jazz Piano Competition.

W 2017 roku we Wrocławiu odbyła się premiera jego opery Immanuel Kant opartej na twórczości Thomasa Bernharda.
