Water fountain.

Freedom Square for more than two hundred years is one of the most important places of Poznan. It was a park and the parade square.and a focus of social and economic life of the city. It served as entertainment and representation. Therefore since the mid-nineteenth century, various monuments were placed on the square.

The first, and the oldest secular monument in Poznan, erected in the Prussian square was of Löwendenkmal, depicting a lion and the figures of four soldiers. It was dedicated to victories of Prussia in the war of 1866. Monuments in the central square of the New Town Germany also honored Gen. Karl Friedrich Steinmetz, commander at the Battle of Nachod, and Frederick William III. The monuments of German domination were removed from the square by Polish authorities in 1919.

Poznanians in the twenties of the twentieth century in Freedom Square planned to erect a monument in honor of Boleslaw the Brave. Now, a new water fountain will be opened soon.

Plac Wolności od ponad dwustu lat jest jednym z najważniejszych miejsc Poznania. Był parkiem i placem defilad. Skupiał życie towarzyskie i gospodarcze miasta. Pełnił funkcje rozrywkowe i reprezentacyjne. Dlatego też na płycie placu od połowy XIX wieku umieszczane były różne pomniki...

Ten pierwszy, a zarazem najstarszy świecki pomnik w Poznaniu, postawili na placu Prusacy. Löwendenkmal, przedstawiający lwa oraz postacie czterech żołnierz, poświęcony został zwycięstwom Prus w wojnie siedmiotygodniowej w 1866 roku. Pomnikami na centralnym placu Nowego Miasta Niemcy uhonorowali także generała Karola Fryderyka Steinmetza, dowodzącego w bitwie pod Nachodem, oraz Fryderyka Wilhelma III. Pamiątki niemieckiej dominacji usunęły z placu władze polskie w 1919 roku.

Poznaniacy w latach dwudziestych XX wieku zamierzali na placu Wolności postawić pomnik ku czci Bolesława Chrobrego.
