Day 14

I tried, in vain, to get Joan to stand up today but it didn't happen. It's like her body is stuck and won't stand all the way upright. She is eating well and we talk some while I am there. I've been bringing things that happened a long time ago and they make her smile or laugh. It's not the same laugh she had. Even laying in a hospital bed,  she is beautiful.

I've known her for more than half of my life. From the beginning when she was a mother supporting herself and 2 children  She was      absolutely         a beautiful woman in mind, intellect, feminism and her body. They all were there, right in front of me. May 24, 1976. I was finished with DePaul University Music school and teaching a lot of students. I walked into a friend's house after teaching 1 day and there she was, sitting on a couch and my mind went blank for a few seconds.

She...'s still there.  I need to open that door again.
