Saturday mass.

Tonight we went to the English mass service in the chapel of the Theological Faculty building. With over 1000 American medical students attending the Medical University here I thought there would be about 25-30 people at the mass. I was wrong.

We entered the chapel and there was one family consisting of a husband, wife and 3 children, Joan and I and 1 medical student. The family had been here before and actually did the work of lighting the altar candles, giving us songs for singing and setting up the altar with microphones. They asked Joan if she would read the first verse during the mass. From the voices they sounded very British and it wasn't until after the mass was over that we learned the wife was actually born in Poland but studied British English at an early age and so she spoke like an Englander. The woman, Alicija, said the mass had been going on for 5 years now but use to be only once a month and only recently changed to every week. With the small attendence I wonder how long it was last on a weekly basis.

The mass was about 50 minutes long. When it was over we talked with the medical student who is in her fourth year(last year) and will return to the U.S. for a year. After that time she plans on moving back to Poland and living here. The family lives in Kierz which is close to where we live and only attends this mass once a month. If that's the case then next week there maybe only Joan, myself and the medical student at the next one.

Dziś wieczorem udaliśmy się do angielskiej mszy w kaplicy Wydziału Teologicznego budynku. Z ponad 1000 amerykańskich studentów medycyny Uniwersytetu Medycznego uczestniczy Myślałem, że tutaj nie będzie około 25-30 osób na masy. Myliłem się.

Weszliśmy do kaplicy i nie było jednej rodziny składającej się z męża, żonę i 3 dzieci, Joan i ja i 1 student medycyny. Rodziny były tu wcześniej i faktycznie prace oświetlenie ołtarza świece, dając nam do śpiewania piosenek i tworzenie ołtarz z mikrofonów. Pytali Joan gdyby czytała pierwszy werset podczas mszy. Z ich głosy brzmiały bardzo brytyjski i dopiero po masowej dowiedzieliśmy się, że żona była w rzeczywistości urodził się w Wielkiej Brytanii Polska angielski, ale studiował w młodym wieku i tak mówiła jak Englander. Kobieta, Alicija, powiedział, że masa miał już od 5 lat, ale należy używać tylko raz na miesiąc i dopiero niedawno zmieniono na każdy tydzień. Z małym udziałem Zastanawiam się jak długo to było ostatni raz w tygodniu.

Masa wynosiła około 50 minut. Kiedy było już po wszystkim rozmawialiśmy z student medycyny, która jest w czwartym roku (ostatni rok) i wróci do USA na rok. Po tym razem plany na przeniesienie z powrotem do życia tutaj i Polska. Rodzina mieszka w Kierz, która jest blisko miejsca, gdzie żyjemy, tylko bierze udział w tej masy raz w miesiącu. Jeśli to przypadek to w przyszłym tygodniu nie może być tylko Joan, siebie i student medycyny na następny.
