Competition.

Listening to the artists perform at the Chopin competitions has been good all week.  I like it better than actually being there in Warsaw to see them because the cameras give you much better coverage with close up shots.  Of course, not paying for tickets is a huge plus because it is expensive to be at all the stages of the competition.  Now in the final stage it seems the two leading candidates are Russian and an Australian is in third place.  That can all change with the final performances.  The biggest surprise today was the leaving from the competition by one of the Russian candidates who had to leave because of health reasons.  It was a big shock to the audience and, I imagine, to the performer.  I had to feel sorry for him, all the preparation that it takes to first be accepted to the competition and then to make it to the final stage and have to leave.

We were tuned in all morning to the music and then in the afternoon we had our weekly meeting with Zbyszek even though we had him over for dinner last night.  As usual, Joan had questions for him about the Polish language and so he spent about an hour explaining things to her about use of certain words and how they change depending on the sentence they are used in.  It's always amusing to listen to the two of them when this type of discussion goes on.

Słuchając artystów wystąpi w konkursach Chopin był dobry przez cały tydzień. Podoba mi się bardziej niż rzeczywiście istnieje w Warszawie, aby zobaczyć je, ponieważ kamery dają o wiele lepsze pokrycie z bliska zdjęć. Oczywiście, nie płacąc za bilety jest ogromny plus, ponieważ jest to droga, żeby na wszystkich etapach konkursu. Teraz w końcowym etapie wydaje się, że dwóch czołowych kandydatów Rosji i Australii jest na trzecim miejscu. To może wszystko się zmienia z finałowych. To był wielki szok dla publiczności i, jak sądzę, do wykonawcy.
