Nature

Back to dreary days.  I stayed up late last night downloading the newest FTM Geneology program and setting it up.  The only "glitch" is that now with the new EU privacy laws, I need a VPN set to a U.S. location in order to connect to my Ancestry account where I keep a copy of my trees. I notified Family Tree Maker about this and they are working to remove the problem. In the U.K, still in the EU, a VPN is not necessary. They said to check back in one week. I am confident they will resolve the problem.

Joan and I were talking about the difference in the colors of Autumn here compared to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There really isn't a comparison. There, everywhere is breathtaking. It's probably because they have so many oak and maple trees mixed in with the conifer trees. Even on a no sun day, the golden leaves of the oak and maple trees are so bright, you think the sun is out. We visited many beautiful places when we lived there and on our properties, it was always beautiful in Autumn. Here were see mainly green, brown and yellow leaves and some red but those are mainly in vines. However, it's still nice to see some change.

What we also miss is seeing the animal roam freely on our old properties.  For example; a skunk, followed by 3 baby skunks, a black bear and her 4 cubs, a duck with 8 ducklings, a deer with 3 fawns and many raccoons. Sitting at our table by the kitchen window we could observe all of them at one time or another.  Then, of course, there was the peace and quiet of having no neighbors with 1/2 mile from us. No blocks of apartments to look at, street corners, people, buses,....nothing. Only nature in isolation from the "world". We much preferred living that way than the way we live now.

Powrót do ponurych dni. Zeszłej nocy siedziałem do późna, pobierając i konfigurując najnowszy program Geneology FTM.

Joan i ja rozmawialiśmy o różnicy kolorów jesieni tutaj w porównaniu z Upper Peninsula w Michigan.

Żadnych bloków mieszkalnych do oglądania, rogów ulicznych, ludzi, autobusów ... nic. Tylko natura w oderwaniu od „świata”. Woleliśmy żyć w ten sposób niż teraz.

    That MI bridge is breathtaking!
I've your reasons for leaving that
Shangrilla over the years,e.g. the weather-- but,you seem to be so in love with that place. And, truth be told, Poland's winters don't seem a whole lot different re: cold weather.

IF there was some ways you could return there to live (an affordable "cottage: (I.e. a snow-worthy garage of vehicles, access to "civilization" (close-enough healthcare, grocers, etc.), WOULD you consider going back to MI, to "look out at these scenes again from your cottage window? OR, already too much invested in your change-of-life trajectory???

  2. Stephanie, As far as Autumn beauty goes, We've never lived in a more beautiful place. But, truth be told, winters ARE a lot different than in Poland. 250-300 inches of snow per year compared to maybe, maybe 30-40 inches. -20-30 lows compared to 0Fhd. Snow from late October to March to hardly any snow during winter. So, winter is much worse. For that reason, even if we could live the same lifestyle now back there, we wouldn't move back. Plus, Spain is a long way from there :-)
