Shopping day, late & Warning.

Shopping day costs 147 PLN($38) for this coming week's food. Joan needed eyeliner and the only place that had what she uses is Auchan, another Walmart type store on the other side of town so we went there first. They didn't have the brand she wanted this time and she had to settle for something else. Her normal eyeliner is washable but this one didn't say if it was or wasn't. It was cheaper so I'm thinking it may not be washable. We will find out when she tries to take it off.

Last night she made a tasty dinner of Salmon and boiled potatoes with dill. We like Salmon. This past week we had 4 nights of new dinners from the Med. style of eating. Another thing we discovered is we like the idea of bread, peanut butter, and bananas for breakfast. Not every day, but it's a good change from músli.

We've reached the peak f Autumn and the leaves are dropping, exposing the limbs and branches of the trees. It's still colorful but that will be fading soon.

Only 2 weeks until Nov. 1st and we make a trip to Golina to put flowers and candles on the grave of my ancestors, aunts, and uncles. I like this day very much.

The picture above is the Pesheekee River in the U.P. of Michigan in Autumn. I spent a few days there a long time ago with my friend Mike Davis and his partner, Mary O'Donnell build a log house for someone during springtime. The river was much deeper then and ran faster.  For fun, one day we built a log raft to float down the river but Mike fall off and I had no way to control the raft. It took me over boulders and was heading for a bridge where Mike and jumped in the car to try to catch me. Fortunately, a bend in the river took the raft close enough to the shore for him to do that. It was both a fun and exciting time.

I've made an effort this last month not to mention my opinions on politics or climate change and it hasn't been easy to be silent when it creeps into my thoughts. So, I have decided to make Saturday my ranting day on those subjects. If you don't want to hear about it, just don't read my blog on Saturday. The other 6 days will not contain those 2 subjects and we can carry on like the world is in great shape.

Dzień zakupów, koszt 147 PLN (38 USD) za żywność w nadchodzącym tygodniu. Joan potrzebowała kredki do oczu, a jedynym miejscem, w którym miała to, czego używa, jest Auchan, kolejny sklep typu Walmart, po drugiej stronie miasta, więc najpierw tam pojechaliśmy. Tym razem nie mieli tej marki, której chciała i musiała zadowolić się czymś innym. Jej normalny eyeliner można myć, ale na tym nie jest powiedziane, czy tak, czy nie. Było tańszy, więc myślę, że nie można. Dowiemy się, kiedy spróbuje to usunąć.

Zeszłego wieczoru zrobiła smaczny obiad z łososia i gotowanych ziemniaków z koperkiem. Lubimy łososia. W ubiegłym tygodniu mieliśmy 4 wieczory z nowymi obiadami wziętymi z diety śródziemnomorskiej. Kolejną rzeczą, którą odkryliśmy, jest to, że na śniadanie podoba nam się chleb, masło orzechowe i banany. Nie każdego dnia, ale to dobra zmiana od musli.

Dotarliśmy do szczytu jesieni i liście opadają, odsłaniając kończyny i gałęzie drzew. Nadal jest kolorowo, ale wkrótce kolory będą blaknąć.

Tylko 2 tygodnie do 1 listopada i wybieramy się do Golina, aby położyć kwiaty i świece na grobie moich przodków, ciotek i wujków. Bardzo lubię ten dzień.

Dawno temu spędziłem tam kilka dni z moim przyjacielem Mikiem Davisem i jego partnerką, Mary O'Donnell, budując dla kogoś dom z bali na wiosnę. Rzeka była wtedy znacznie głębsza i płynęła szybciej. Dla zabawy, pewnego dnia zbudowaliśmy tratwę do pływania w dół rzeki, ale Mike spadł i nie miałem sposobu, aby kontrolować tratwę. Poprowadził mnie przez głazy i zmierzał do mostu, gdzie Mike wskoczył do samochodu, żeby mnie złapać. Na szczęście zakręt w rzece zbliżył tratwę wystarczająco blisko brzegu, aby mógł to zrobić. To był zarówno zabawny, jak i ekscytujący czas.

W zeszłym miesiącu starałem się nie wspominać o moich opiniach na temat polityki lub zmian klimatu i nie było łatwo milczeć, kiedy wkradają się w moje myśli. Postanowiłem więc uczynić sobotę moim rozdzierającym dniem na te tematy. Jeśli nie chcesz o tym słyszeć, po prostu nie czytaj mojego bloga w sobotę. Pozostałe 6 dni nie będzie zawierać tych 2 tematów i możemy kontynuować tak, jakby świat był w świetnej formie.
