Real 2nd day.

Bartosz arrived at 10:00 with his table but he didn't use it. Today there were different exercises. 1. Sitting in her wheelchair and the walker in front of her, Joan had to lean forward, put her hands on the arms of the chair, and raise herself up.  The first 2 tries were difficult but by the 10th try, she could do it. 2. Next was sitting with eyes closed and back straight, he gently pushed her from side to side and front to back. She had to resist his pushing. #3 was a repeat of #1. 4. Again sitting, she had to straighten and lift each leg 10 times. 5. This involved holding a water bottle in her right hand and raising it to meet Bartosz 's hand wherever he placed it, 10 times.#6 was a repeat of #2. #7 was a repeat of #5.#8 was a repeat of #4.

From that, it was time to use the walker. #1 was sitting in the chair, leaning forward, putting her hands on the walker, standing up, then sitting down, 10 times. #2 Standing eyes closed, hands across her chest, and resisting his pushing to improve balance. #3 was standing, bending her right knee with her toes up and raising her foot off the ground, 10 times. #4 was like #3 but with the left foot. #5 was like #2. #6 the last one was bending her right knee, toes up, lifting her leg and moving it forward then back. It was created with the left foot.

Today my friend, Radek, picked up the washbasin I ordered online to more easily wash Joan's hair. I could have continued to do it "my way" but it was such a hassle. Now she can lay comfortably in bed while I wash her hair. It was worth the 55 PLN($14) Tomorrow is hair day!

2. Następnie siedziała z zamkniętymi oczami i wyprostowanymi plecami, a Bartosz delikatnie popychał ją z boku na bok i z przodu do tyłu. Musiała się oprzeć jego popychaniu. 3. było powtórzeniem 1. 4. Znowu siedząc, musiała wyprostować i unieść każdą nogę 10 razy. 5. Wiązało się to z trzymaniem butelki z wodą w prawej ręce i podnoszeniem jej 10 razy, aby dotknąć ręki Bartosza gdziekolwiek ją umiejscowił.

2. Stanie z zamkniętymi oczami, z rękoma w poprzek klatki piersiowej i stawianie oporu jego popychaniu, by poprawić równowagę. 3. Joan stojąc, zginała prawe kolano z palcami u nóg w górę i unosiła stopę z ziemi, 10 razy.

    Hi David,

All caught up at your blog!
From readers vantage point, I can attest to sure, steady progress
happening with Joan (I mean, just reading all the exercises she's
doing made ME exhausted)! Things ARE improving... Bravo, to both
of you, in the way you're working it out, during this personal trial
in your life. "For better or for worse" (true to your vows)...Bravo!

Being in the thick of things, I am sure you're also shaking your head and saying,
it's easy to comment but VERY difficult to do it! That isn't escaping your readers,
David. We note your frustration (esp. with the communication/mental side of it--
Joan's struggle w. memory and your acute headaches). Remember to pat yourself on the back and give Joan the slack! More than ever, you must realize, that patience IS necessary to slog through this (and from what we know of you all these years, you have it in spades-- so continue to deal that hand). You also exhibit so much resource and creativity, and know you will continue to invent and experiment and be open to new ways of living life on your chosen and unique terms.

We readers will be rooting for you from the sidelines!

    ~Stephanie

P.S. Will keep an eye out for anything promising w. the "aphasia" factor....

  2. Stephanie, I got your comment. Thanks for the encouraging words. It surprised me today, the number of new exercises, also. He must think she is ready for them. I broke it down for the afternoon exercise period to 3 different ones every hour until dinner. Her hardest one is just raising herself up in the chair.
