For almost a month, residents and tourists have already been able to enjoy most of the renovated and even surface of the Old Market. Work still remains to be done in the mid-market section. The work had been underway since the fall of 2021. Two years earlier, the renovation of the City Hall began. Now that it is possible to enter the building, the Museum of Pozna艅, located there, can be opened.
"We want to show visitors what Pozna艅 looked like until the middle of the 16th century, that is, until the arrival of Jan Baptista Quadro to the city and his reconstruction of the City Hall in Renaissance form. Hence the name of the permanent exhibition "Pozna艅 before Quadro". The second theme of the exhibition is the architecture of the Gothic, i.e. this first City Hall," says Dr. Magdalena Mrugalska-Banaszak, head of the Poznan Museum.
Before visitors enter the basement, they will pass through a court lodge established in 1584. The people in it controlled the proper work of the executioner. Indeed, one of the basement rooms housed a torture chamber. One of the exhibits on view there is the original pillory from 1535. Its copy from 1925, which stood next to the City Hall - at the exit of R贸偶any Targ Street - will soon return to its former place.
