Thaddeus Kosciuszko

I just finished reading "The Peasant Prince", the story of Thaddeus Kosciuszko in America and Poland. For me it was a fascinating story of the founder of West Point, his contribution to the American independence and his struggles in Poland to gain freedom for Poland. A friend of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, he played a great part in America's freedom but yet remained a humble man and a guiding light for all men and women to be treated equally, regardless of their race, religion or nationality. The Peasant Prince: Thaddeus Kosciuszko and the Age of Revolution, by Alex Storozynski, is the first comprehensive biography of the most legendary figure in Polish history.

In the United States …

•He tried to buy Thomas Jefferson's slaves and free them.
•He designed the blueprints for West Point, which Benedict Arnold sold to the British.
•He planned the Battle of Saratoga, the turning point of the American Revolution.
•He stood up for the rights of Native Americans, and the chief of the Miami Indian tribe gave him a tomahawk/peace pipe as a sign of appreciation.

In France …

•The French Revolutionaries made him an honorary "Citizen of France."
•He warned these same revolutionaries about Napoleon Bonaparte.
•Three weeks later, Napoleon staged a coup d'etat and took over France.
In Poland…

•He led a Revolution to free the peasants from serfdom and end feudalism.
•He was joined by a black man named Jean Lapierre who tried to help him to free white slaves.
•The Jews started a Jewish "Bearded cavalry" to fight along side of him.
•The Jewish cavalry leader called him "a messenger from God."
Kosciuszko was a prince of tolerance who stood up for the rights of European serfs, African Slaves, Native American Indians, Jews, Women and all groups that were disenfranchised. Even Thomas Jefferson called Kosciuszko, "The purest son of liberty I have ever known."

After finishing the book it was so nice outside we had to go to the rynek to our favorite place and sit outside for a while drinking coffee. Yes, it does seem like we do that a lot and we do in the warm months. It is what we look forward too during winter so when the season is right, we go. We worked all of our lives for this time of retirement and now it is that time to enjoy the freedom of not working, not having a schedule we must adhere to and to enjoy a simple pleasure for us.

A new restaurant has opened just opposite of Room 55 with the name Waga Restaurant. There was a restaurant there when we arrived in 2007 but it closed and the place has been empty since 2008. Another restaurant in the rynek also closed last year, Dom Vikingow, but now it also has a new occupant who seems to be ready to open.

Tonight in the World Cup, Germany plays against Spain and the winner plays the Netherlands for the championship. We are not big fans of this game but still we hope Spain will defeat Germany and the Netherlands will be the final winner. The final game will be this Saturday.

Tonight Joan is preparing one of our favorite dinners for warm weather called a Cobb salad. It is a combination of two different kinds of lettuce, hard-boiled eggs, avocadoes, tomatoes, blue cheese, chicken and bacon.

Właśnie skończyłem czytać "The Peasant Prince", historia Tadeusza Kościuszki w Ameryce i Polska. Dla mnie było to fascynująca historia założyciela West Point, jego wkład w niepodległość Stanów Zjednoczonych i jego zmagań w Polska zyskać wolność Polska. Przyjaciel George Washington i Thomas Jefferson, grał wielką rolę w wolność Ameryki, ale jeszcze pozostał skromnym człowiekiem i Guiding Light dla wszystkich mężczyzn i kobiet do równego traktowania bez względu na ich rasę, religię lub narodowość. Peasant Prince: Thaddeus Kosciuszko i Age of Revolution, Alex Storozynski, jest pierwszą kompleksową biografii z najbardziej legendarnych postaci w historii Polski.

• Próbował kupić Thomas Jefferson's niewolnicy i wolni im.
• Zaprojektował plany na West Point, które Benedict Arnold sprzedana brytyjskiej.

• Ostrzegł tych samych rewolucjonistów o Napoleonie Bonaparte.
• Trzy tygodnie później, Napoleon zorganizowali zamach stanu i przejął we Francji.
Polska w ...

• Prowadził Revolution uwolnić chłopów od poddaństwa i feudalizmu końca.
• Był dołączył czarny człowiek, imieniem Jean Lapierre, którzy próbowali mu pomóc uwolnić białych niewolników.
• Żydzi zaczęli żydowskiego "Brodaty kawalerii" walczyć obok niego.
• przywódca żydowski kawalerii nazwał go "posłaniec od Boga."
Kościuszko był księciem tolerancji, który stanął w obronie praw europejskich chłopów, afrykańskich niewolników, Native American Indian, Żydów, kobiet i wszystkich grup, które zostały pozbawionych praw obywatelskich. Nawet Thomas Jefferson nazwie Kościuszko "najczystszej syn wolności, jaki kiedykolwiek znane."

Po zakończeniu tej książki było tak miłe na zewnątrz musieliśmy pójść do Rynek by nasze ulubione miejsce i usiąść na zewnątrz w czasie picia kawy. Tak, to wydaje się tak jak my, że dużo i robimy w ciepłe miesiące. To co oczekujemy także w okresie zimowym, kiedy to sezon jest w prawo, jedziemy. Pracowaliśmy całe nasze życia do tego czasu przejścia na emeryturę, a teraz jest czas, aby korzystać z wolności nie działa, nie mając planu musimy przestrzegać i cieszyć się prostą przyjemność dla nas.

Otwarto nową restaurację naprzeciwko pokoju 55, nazwę Waga restauracja. Była restauracja na miejscu, kiedy przyjechaliśmy w 2007 roku, ale zamknięte i puste miejsce było od 2008 roku. Innej restauracji w Rynku również zamknięte w ubiegłym roku, Dom Vikingów, ale teraz ma też nowy lokator, który wydaje się być gotowe do otwarcia.

Dzisiaj w Pucharze Świata w Niemczech gra przeciwko Hiszpanii, a zwycięzca gra o mistrzostwo Holandii. Nie jesteśmy wielkimi fanami tej gry, ale wciąż mamy nadzieję, że Hiszpania będzie klęska Niemiec i Holandii będzie ostatecznym zwycięzcą. W grze będzie w najbliższą sobotę.

Muszę podziękować Krzysztof, czytelnik tego bloga, za miłe uzupełnienie o blogu, że wysłał do mnie w prywatnym e-mail. Zawsze jest miło usłyszeć ktoś czyta nasze codzienne wyczyny.

Dzisiaj Joan przygotowuje się jednym z naszych ulubionych kolacje ciepłej pogody nazwie Sałatka Cobb. Jest to połączenie dwóch różnych rodzajów sałaty, jajka na twardo, awokado, pomidory, ser blue, kurczaka i bekonu.
