This picture was taken at 4:15AM this morning. What am I doing up at that time I don't know. My sleep pattern has been very erratic these last 3 months and being light out so early doesn't help.

Today, before we started our weekly shopping, I had to stop at Media Mart to get some AA batteries for my digital camera and I finally bought a AA battery charger with batteries. I've been waiting for them to go on sale and today was the lucky day. Charger and 4 rechargeable Duracell batteries cost 48zl($15). That's not bad considering just the 4 batteries cost 64zl by themselves.

Joan was also happy today. On the corner by our flat was a stand setup with a woman selling cherries. Joan loves cherries, mainly the kind known as "Bing" cherries and she was sure she couldn't find them here. When I mentioned that she should go to the stand and see what kind of cherries were being sold she returned with a big smile on her face. She said the lady had "Bing" cherries but I am not so sure.

Bing is a wild or sweet cherry that originated in the Pacific Northwest of Oregon. The Bing remains a major cherry in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. The cherry was created as a crossbred graft from theRepublican cherry in 1875 by Oregon horticulturist Seth Lewelling and his Manchurian Chinese foreman Ah Bing, for whom the cherry is named. It is the most produced variety of sweet cherry in the U.S. today.

Some sources claim that Ah Bing cared for the trees from which the cherry was developed, while others claim that he had been responsible for cultivating the fruit.

Ah Bing was reportedly born in China and immigrated to the U.S. in 1855, where he worked as a foreman in the Lewelling family fruit orchards in Milwaukie, supervising other workers and caring for trees. I don't know if these are real "Bing" cherries but Joan likes them and that's the main thing isn't it?

This week is the beginning of the Malta Festival. On its 20th anniversary one of the most important theatre festivals in Poznan changes its name and format. But the fans of the Poznan theatre fair have nothing to worry about: like every year, at the turn of June and July the Poznan parks, squares, halls and courtyards will turn into theatre and concert stages.
This year the Poznan festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The event started as a street festival to become one of the most important artistic festivals in our part of Europe.From now on it will not be the International Theatre Festival but Malta Festival Poznan.

Dziś, zanim zaczęliśmy nasze tygodniowe sprawunki, musiałem zatrzymać w Media Mart, aby uzyskać pewne baterie do kamery cyfrowej i wreszcie kupił ładowarkę z bateriami AA. Czekałem na nich do sprzedaży, a dzisiaj był szczęśliwy dzień. Ładowarka i 4 akumulatorki Duracell koszt 48zl ($ 15). Że nie jest zły biorąc pod uwagę tylko 4 baterie 64zl koszty we własnym zakresie.

Joan była szczęśliwa dzisiaj. Na rogu przez nasze mieszkanie było przygotowanie ekspozycji z kobieta sprzedająca czereśnie. Joan kocha wiśni, głównie z rodzaju znanego jako "Bing" wiśnie i była pewna, że nie może znaleźć tutaj. Kiedy mówiłem, że powinien udać się do stoiska i zobaczyć, jakie czereśnie były sprzedawane wróciła z dużym uśmiechem na twarzy. Powiedziała pani, że "Bing" wiśnie i czereśnie, ale nie jestem tego taki pewien.

Ale fani teatru w Poznaniu targi mają się czym martwić: jak co roku na przełomie czerwca i lipca w Poznaniu parków, placów, hal i dziedzińce zamieni się w teatr i estradach koncertowych.

W tym roku w Poznaniu festiwal obchodzi swoje 20-lecie. Impreza rozpoczyna się festiwal uliczny stał się jednym z najważniejszych festiwali artystycznych w naszej części Europe.From teraz na nim nie będzie Międzynarodowy Festiwal Teatralny Malta Festival ale Poznaniu.
