Strange requirements.

In going to a hospital, there are certain things that you must bring with you. These include normal things like a toothbrush, toothpaste, pajamas, bathrobe and slippers. However, you must also bring your own plate for meals, cup, knife, fork, spoon, soap, towel and face cloth. I've been in enough hospitals in the U.S. to know those last things are provided by the hospital. I also know that the hospital I will be in, Lutycka Hospital, has a catering service that provides breakfast and supper but not lunch. This meal is provided by the hospital and for that you need your own utensils and plate. I have no idea how many patients will be in the room with me, could be as many 8. Certainly I will not have a semi-private room because the bill is being paid by the national health service. It doesn't matter to me, the only thing that matters is a successful operation and release from the hospital on the Friday after the operation. Fortunately the weather temperature is predicted to be between 21c-23c so it shouldn't be too hot. There is no air-conditioning in the hospital.

The crew doing the insulation work has worked steadily since they started about 3 weeks ago and now all that is left is to paint the building. I'm confident that it will be finished by the time I return home. There are many renovation companies in Poznań and, fortunately, the one doing the work is one of the better ones. They show up for work everyday, even Saturday, and work from 7:30AM to 5PM.

To my great surprise today, I received two emails from the Polish post confirming the delivery of letters to the Polish tax office and the Criminal department of the Police with the requests for documents for Joan's residency permit. I also have a tracking number to the tax papers we sent to America. NO. Joan is not a criminal but she needs a document stating that fact from the Police, part of the new requirement of the European Union residency permit.

Idąc do szpitala pewne rzeczy należy zabrać ze sobą. Są to normalne rzeczy, jak szczoteczka do zębów, pasta do zębów, piżama, szlafrok i kapcie. Jednakże, należy również przynieść własne talerze do posiłków, kubek, nóż, widelec, łyżkę, mydło, ręczniki i ściereczki do  twarzy. Byłem w tylu szpitalach w USA, by wiedzieć, że te ostatnie rzeczy należą do szpitala. Wiem też, że będę w szpitalu na Lutyckiej, który posiada obsługę cateringową  zapewniającą śniadanie i kolację, ale nie lunch. Ten posiłek zapewnia szpital, a do tego trzeba własne sztućce i talerz. Nie mam pojęcia, ilu pacjentów będzie w pokoju ze mną, może być aż 8. Oczywiście, że nie będzie miał pół-prywatny pokój, ponieważ rachunek jest opłacany przez krajową służbę zdrowia. To nie ma dla mnie znaczenia, jedyną rzeczą, która się liczy, to udana operacja i zwolnienie mnie ze szpitala w piątek, już po operacji. Na szczęście  przewiduje się temperaturę między 21-23C, tak że nie powinna być za gorąco. Nie ma klimatyzacji w szpitalu.

Załoga wykonująca prace izolacyjne, pracuje nieustannie około 3 tygodni od momentu, kiedy zaczęli , a teraz wszystko, co pozostaje to jest  malowanie budynku. Jestem przekonany, że będzie gotowy do czasu, kiedy wrócę do domu. Istnieje wiele firm remontowych w Poznaniu i na szczęście ta, która wykonuje tutaj pracę jest jedną z lepszych. Oni pojawiają się w pracy codziennie, nawet w  soboty i pracują od 7:30 do 17;00.

Ku mojemu wielkiemu zdziwieniu, dziś otrzymałem 2 e-maile od Poczty Polskiej potwierdzające dostawę listów do polskiego urzędu skarbowego i wydziału karnego policji z wnioskami o dokumenty dotyczące pozwolenia na pobyt Joanny. Mam też numer przesyłki  listu z dokumentami podatkowymi, który  wysłaliśmy do Ameryki.  Joan nie jest przestępcą, ale ona potrzebuje dokumentu stwierdzającego ten fakt z policji, w ramach nowego wymogu pozwolenia na pobyt w Unii Europejskiej.
