Cousins in Michigan.I was waiting until this mornings meeting with the urologist to get more answers to my problem before I wrote so yesterday I missed writing.
Well, what can I tell you? Today was more like "A Day in the life of a patient in this medical system". My appointment was at 8AM in a hospital on Swajczarska street, on the other side of town. I got there at 7:45, found the doctors secretary office, told her who I was and had an appointment at 8AM. She went to find the doctor and returned. He took me into an exam room, asked me my problem, told me on the basis of my urine and blood tests I needed a USG and a biopsy taken but that he had no time to do any of that now because he had to go to surgery. He told me to go home, call him Sunday night and he would tell me what time on Monday to come in for the USG and to bring my paperwork from NFZ as proof I had a contract with them. So basically it was a wasted trip, nothing accomplished and nothing learned. A year ago I had a much more favorable opinion about this system but in the last year it has been on a steady decline. Once the USG is done, I will have to register at the office and be given a date for the biopsy to be taken. God only knows how long that will take.
Of course, my problem with all this is that I lived in the U.S. before and an appointment with a doctor meant that the time was reserved for you. They weren't always on time but they didn't just say "I can't see you now, call me later and we'll meet another day". Once you were in the doctors office your problem was talked about, examined and a solution looked for.

On brał mnie do pokoju egzaminu , pytał mi mój problem, mówił mi na bazie mojej uryny i badań krwi ja potrzebny USG i biopsja wzięta ale, że on nie ma żadnego czasu by robić jakikolwiek z tak teraz ponieważ on musiał pójść do chirurgii. On powiedział, żebym poszedł do domu, zawołać go noc niedzieli i on powiedziałby mi jaki czas w poniedziałek by spotkać się z USG i by przynieść moją papierkową robotę z NFZ jak odporny miałem kontrakt z nimi. Tak zasadniczo to była zmarnowana podróż, nic znakomity i nic nie nauczyło się. Rok temu miałem dużo bardziej sprzyjającej opinii o tym systemie ale we w ubiegłym roku to było na stałym upadku. Well, please read my blog. Everything is far from perfect in the United States. The physical I had for my Fulbright Award resulted in two errors by the medical assistant. That took two more visits, well scheduled, but annoying nevertheless, to correct these errors. Correcting one cost more than $1000 with another test. rather than simply re-doing the $70again to determine if an error had been made. It does no good to do things on time if it's the wrong thing.
ReplyDeleteThe Polish health system, for economic reasons too complicated to explain here, is totally understaffed. Poland needs health reform just like the US, but needs different solutions for it must become possible to work in health care in Poland and make an income that is competitive with what one can do in other EU countries.
