After a long day driving yesterday, Joan and I did something today we haven't done in so long we can't remember when it happened before. We slept today until 12:00 and were shocked to see the time. It wasn't a continuous because we did wake up several time during the night but still, we slept until 12:00.
Needless to say we felt like we waisted a morning and immediately got dressed, had a cup of coffee and then walked to the underground subway station about ten minutes from where we are staying. We decided to buy a weekly pass for 15 Euro and you can use it as many times as you want on any public transportation. We took the subway to Karlsplatz by Ressellpark and started our afternoon journey by first visiting Karlskirche.Church. The St. Charle's Church is a church situated on the south side of Karlsplatz. It is one of the most outstanding baroque church structures, and boasts a dome in the form of an elongated ellipsoid.
Since Karlsplatz was restored as an ensemble in the late 1980s, the Karlskirche has garnered fame due to its domand its two flanking columns of bas-reliefs, as well as its role as an architectural counterweight to the buildings of the Musikverein and of the Vienna University of Technology..
The church is cared for by a religious order and has long been the paerish church as well as the seat of the Catholic student ministry of the Vienna University of Technology.
Of course, we wanted to see inside so we paid and entered. It was really an incredible structure, marble everywhere but what I didn't like about it is that they erected a mechanized elevator that take you to the top of the dome and covers the view of the dome from the ground floor. Yes, it was nice to be able to see the dome painting close but it takes away from the ambience of the church.
From the Church we went to see the famous Vienna Opera house from the outside because we couldn't go in. Outside were many men dressed in the clothing period of Mozart because Tuesday and Thursday nights are Mozart concert nights. We decided not to go and instead went to another part of the old town. There is another magnificent cathedral. St. Stephan's.
St. Stephan's Cathedral is the mother church of Vienna and the seat of the Archbishop. It is, situated at the heart of Vienna, Austria in the Stephansplatz, was largely initiated by Rudolf IV and stands on the ruins of two earlier churches, the first being a parish church consecrated in 1147. As the most important religious building in Austria's capital, the cathedral has borne witness to many important events in that nation's history and has, with its multi-colored tile roof, become one of the city's most recognizable symbols.
By the time we got back to our room it was 9PM. Tomorrow is another big day, this time the Schonbrunn palace with it's 1,441 rooms although we'll only be allowed to see 42 of them. It's always those rooms that I can't see that I want to see the most.
Spali艣my dzi艣 do 12:00 i byli w szoku, aby zobaczy膰 razem. To nie by艂a ci膮g艂a, bo obudzi艂em si臋 kilka razy w ci膮gu nocy, ale nadal, spali艣my do godziny 12:00.
Trzeba powiedzie膰, 偶e czu艂em si臋 jak zw臋偶one rano i natychmiast ubra艂, mieli kaw臋, a nast臋pnie podszed艂 do podziemnej stacji metra, oko艂o dziesi臋ciu minut od gdzie jeste艣my. Zdecydowali艣my si臋 kupi膰 bilet tygodniowy za 15 euro i mo偶na go u偶ywa膰 tyle razy, ile chcesz na dowolnym transportem publicznym. Jest to jeden z najwybitniejszych budowli barokowych ko艣cio艂贸w, i szczyci si臋 kopu艂a w formie wyd艂u偶onej elipsoidy.
Oczywi艣cie, chcieli艣my zobaczy膰 wewn膮trz wi臋c zap艂acili艣my i wesz艂a. Tak, to by艂o mi艂o by膰 w stanie zobaczy膰 obraz blisko kopu艂ki ale trwa od wn臋trzach ko艣cio艂a.
Z ko艣cio艂a poszli艣my zobaczy膰 s艂ynny Vienna Opera House z zewn膮trz, poniewa偶 nie mogli艣my wej艣膰 do 艣rodka na zewn膮trz by艂o wiele m臋偶czy藕ni ubrani w okresie odzie偶y Mozarta bo wtorek i czwartek noce s膮 Mozart noce koncertowe. Zdecydowali艣my si臋 nie i艣膰 i zamiast poszed艂 do innej cz臋艣ci Starego Miasta. Jest jeszcze inna wspania艂a katedra. Kolejowy.
Dworzec Kolejowy jest ko艣ci贸艂 matka Wiedniu i siedzib膮 arcybiskupa.
Do czasu, kiedy wr贸cili艣my do naszego pokoju by艂o godzina dwudziesta pierwsza.
