Language day

Lots of activity today for a Sunday.

First, I had to go to Sowa's at 10:00 to pick up some pastries for our guests, our old neighbors, Marek, Hania, and daughter, Zuzannah. The Polish custom is to take something for the hosts when you visit their house for the first time. Marek and Hania outdid the custom. They brought homemade bigos, a large pot of soup, and a cheesecake covered in chocolate. We really liked the cheesecake but didn't need it because I bought a weight scale today and Joan is overweight,

They stayed for about an hour and a half, speaking in Polish with me. Zuzannah has been studying English for 7 years in school but as normal was very hesitant to use the language. We have known Zuza since the day she was born 12 years ago. She is a wonderful young lady.

At 3:30(15:30), I spoke with Carmelo from Spain in Spanish and he asked how the weather was now in Poland. I told him there was snow, 0 degrees, and gray. He laughed and said it was 21 C, sunny and there were many people at the beach.

At 5 PM(17:00, Joan had her weekly Skype conversation with her daughter. They spoke for about an hour and then we had a dinner of bigos. It was a full day today and Joan fell asleep early.

Dużo zajęć jak na niedzielę.

Najpierw o 10:00 musiałam pojechać do Sowy po ciastka dla naszych gości, starych sąsiadów, Marka, Hani i córki Zuzanny. Polski zwyczaj nakazuje, aby przy pierwszej wizycie w domu wziąć coś dla gospodarzy. Marek i Hania prześcigali się w tym zwyczaju. Przynieśli domowy bigos, duży garnek zupy i sernik oblany czekoladą. Sernik bardzo nam smakował, ale nie był nam potrzebny, bo kupiłem dziś wagę, a Joanna ma nadwagę,

Zostali około półtorej godziny, rozmawiając ze mną po polsku. Zuzannah uczy się angielskiego od 7 lat w szkole, ale jak zwykle była bardzo niezdecydowana w używaniu tego języka. Znamy Zuzę od dnia jej narodzin 12 lat temu. Jest wspaniałą młodą damą.

O 3:30 (15:30) rozmawiałem z Carmelo z Hiszpanii i zapytał, jaka jest teraz pogoda w Polsce. Powiedziałam mu, że jest śnieg, 0 stopni i szaro. On się roześmiał i powiedział, że jest 21 stopni C, słonecznie i jest dużo ludzi na plaży.

O 17:00 Joan odbyła swoją cotygodniową rozmowę na Skype z córką. Rozmawiały przez około godzinę, a potem zjedliśmy kolację z bigosem. To był dziś cały dzień i Joan wcześnie zasnęła.

En primer lugar, tuve que ir a Sowa's a las 10:00 para recoger unos pasteles para nuestros invitados, nuestros antiguos vecinos, Marek, Hania y su hija, Zuzannah. La costumbre polaca es llevar algo para los anfitriones cuando se visita su casa por primera vez. Marek y Hania superaron la costumbre. Trajeron bigos caseros, una gran olla de sopa y una tarta de queso cubierta de chocolate. Nos gustó mucho la tarta de queso, pero no la necesitamos porque hoy he comprado una báscula y Joan tiene sobrepeso,

Se quedaron como una hora y media, hablando en polaco conmigo. Zuzannah lleva 7 años estudiando inglés en la escuela, pero como es normal se mostró muy reticente a usar el idioma. Conocemos a Zuza desde el día en que nació, hace 12 años. Es una joven maravillosa.

A las 3:30 (15:30), hablé con Carmelo de España y me preguntó cómo estaba el tiempo en Polonia. Le dije que había nieve, 0 grados y gris. Él se rió y dijo que había 21 C, que hacía sol y que había mucha gente en la playa.

A las 17 horas (17:00), Joan tuvo su conversación semanal por Skype con su hija. Hablaron durante una hora y luego cenamos bigos. Hoy ha sido un día completo y Joan se ha dormido pronto.
