Another small world story!

Joan and I have been fans of college basketball for some years now. In the U.S. it was rare for us to miss watching our favorite college team, Duke University, when they played each year on T.V. From 2001-2005 one of our favorite players was Daniel Ewing. We watched him become a better player from his first game to his last at that University. When he graduated from school he was selected by a professional NBA team, played there for two years and then was released from the team. We never knew what happened to him after that.

Last night, for lack of something to watch on T.V., we watched a professional Polish basketball game. Basketball here isn't as popular yet as it is in the U.S. but Poznań does have it's own team. They were playing a team from Gdynia/Sopot named Asseco Prokom Sopot. As the game progressed I thought I recognized one of the players but couldn't see the name on his shirt. Finally he was fouled by another player and when he was shooing his free throw they showed a close up of his face. I couldn't believe my eyes.................it was Daniel Ewing. The announcer said his name and confirmed my suspicion. Joan and I were in shock. I did a quick check on the internet for his name and sure enough it said he left the U.S. in 2007 and was now playing for a team in Poland. So how's that for another small world story! His team will return to Poznań in March for another game and you can be sure Joan and I will go to see it in the Arena. The cost of a single ticket is 18zl($6).


Joan i ja jestem entuzjastami koszykówki uczelni od kilku lat teraz. W Stanach Zjednoczonych to było rzadkie dla nas by chybić obserwowania naszego ulubionego zespołu uczelni , Księcia Uniwersytet, kiedy oni pobawili się każdego roku na T.V. Od 2001-2005 jeden z naszych ulubionych graczy był Daniel Ewing. Obserwowaliśmy go stajemy się lepszym graczem od jego pierwszej gry do jego ostatniego na tamtym Uniwersytecie. Kiedy on ukończył studia ze szkoły on był wybrany przez profesjonalny NBA zespół, zagrany tam przez dwa lata i wtedy był wypuszczony od zespołu. Nigdy nie znaliśmy co zdarzone się mu po tamtym.

Ubiegłej nocy, z braku czegoś by oczekiwać na T.V., obserwowaliśmy profesjonalną polską koszykówkę. Koszykówka tutaj nie jest tak popularna jeszcze jak to jest w Stanach Zjednoczonych ale Poznań ma to jest własny zespół. Oni grali zespół z Gdyni/Sopot nazwał Asseco Prokom Sopot. Jak gra przebiegła pomyślałem, że rozpoznałem jednego z graczy ale nie mógłbym zobaczyć imienia na jego koszuli. W końcu on był zanieczyszczony przez innego gracza i kiedy on wypłaszał jego wolny rzut oni pokazali blisko w górze jego twarzy. Nie mógłbym uwierzyć, że mój eyes.................it był Daniel Ewing. Spiker powiedział jego nazwisko i potwierdził moje podejrzenie. Joan i ja byłem w szoku. Robiłem szybką kontrolę na internecie dla jego imienia i wedle oczekiwań to mówiło, że on zostawi Stany Zjednoczone w 2007 i teraz bawił się dla zespołu w Polsce. Tak jak jest tamto dla innej małej światowej historii! Jego zespół wróci do Poznań w marcu dla innej gry i możesz być pewny Joan i pójdę zobaczyć to w Arenie. Koszt bilet w jedną stronę jest 18zl($6).
