Tree in box.
Top of tree decoration
Bulbs and ribbon
More bulbs and snowflakes
Christmas lights
Hangers for bulbs
Frosty watching for Santa Claus(a little early)
Yes, we went to Praktiker today and bought all the ingredients for the Christmas tree. I was concerned about the lights, if one burned out was it replaceable but I found someone who spoke excellent English and he said it was not a problem to replace one bulb. He even showed me how and then showed me where the extra lights were for sale. We bought 8 of them, just in case. So now we are all ready to put up the tree, probably toward the end of the week.
I also found out today from the surgeon that my laprosocopy for the stones wouldn't be until spring. It seems the end of the year is a disaster with the national health care system and they run out of money. Therefore, all gall bladder surgeries for December have been cancelled unless it is an emergency. Another friend/opthamalogist said it was the same for her clinic and they would do no more eye surgeries until next year. What a system!!
Today is December 7th and I could not let it pass without the mention of remembering what happened 68 years ago, Pearl Harbor. Each country has it's moments of national tragedy, some more that others, like Poland but nevertheless all tragic times.
Tak teraz jesteśmy wszyscy gotowi by podnieść drzewo, prawdopodobnie ku końcowi tygodnia.

David,
Glad you are getting your Christmas stuff organized.
I had to comment on the health care system over there. People here just don't get what a nationalized system can be like. Your example is a good one. It means rationed care, it means waiting for care and in some cases it might mean inadequate care by virtue of the system itself. I just don't understand why people would want to do this. And it certainly won't be free.
My two cents.
John
David, you are lucky you have the best hospitals in Poland...
Poznań hospitals among best hospitals in Poland
Poznań hospitals have ranked high in the latest Poland-wide ranking complied by "Wprost" daily. The Otolaryngology and Oncological Laryngology Institute of Adam Mickiewicz Clinical Hospital no. 2 and the Adam Mickiewicz Gynaecological - Obstetrics Clinical Hospital have won in their respective categories amongst public hospitals. With respect to Poznań non-public healthcare units, Promienista Clinic has taken the first place in the "gynecology" category, while Certus Private Clinic has won in the "urology" category.

With respect to Poznań non-public healthcare units, "Promienista Clinic" has taken the first place in the "gynaecology" category, while Certus Private Clinic has won in the "urology" category. The top 10 list includes other Poznań healthcare centres: Przemienienie Pańskie Clinical Hospital no 1 (ranked 8th in the "cardiosurgery" category), Ortopedyczno-Rehabilitacyjny Szpital Kliniczny nr 4 AM in Poznań (ranked 3rd in "orthopedy"), Przemienienie Pańskie Clinical Hospital no 1 (ranked 4th in "ophthalmology"), Clinical Hospital no 5 (on the 5th position in the "psychiatry"), Św. Rodzina Clinical Hospital (ranked 4th in "urology").
The ranking criteria have covered, among other, the scope of diagnostics, equipment, number of carried out medical procedures and their techniques, experience in conducting medical procedures, number of patients readmitted to hospital, percentage of post-surgery complications and the length of a patient's stay in hospital after surgery. Scores have also been given for skills and competences of medical staff, comfort of a patient's stay in a given healthcare unit, scope of post-surgery care and availability of basic medical examination. High weighting has been given to external quality assessment systems, i.e. the receipt of CJM and ISO certificates
Marcus,
Thank you for your information. While I have no doubt that there are some very good hospitals in Poznan, according to Polish standards, there are also many others that are not. However it stil doesn't change the fact that I have to wait until Spring for a simple laproscopic proceedure because there is not enough money in the national health system at this time.
David,
So with the best hospitals in Poland, it begs the question, "What if the best isn't good enough"?
In your case, the answer is obvious, "it isn't".
I sure hope this doesn't happen here in the states.
John
