November 11th.

 National Independence Day is a national day in Poland celebrated on 11 November to commemorate the anniversary of the restoration of Poland's sovereignty as the Second Polish Republic in 1918 from the German, Austro-Hungarian, and Russian Empires. 

It's also the day that Poland bakeries and sweet shops sell Rogale. 

Have you ever eaten a legally protected croissant? One that is not only protected in Poland but in all of the EU? You have if you've eaten a St. Martin's Croissant, better known as rogale marcińskie in Poland. The recipe is protected under EU law.   This means that not just anyone can make a St. Martin’s croissant; you must use the exact recipe and have the legal rights to make and sell it. And just like how Gucci has its fakes, so does the St. Martin’s Croissant. Impostors that call themselves the Martin Croissant, or some version of the real name so beware!

The thing about a St. Martin’s Croissant, the 81 layers of pastry is filling. That’s why locals only eat them seasonally, like on St. Martin's Day or at Christmas time! Having said that the people of Poznań still manage to eat a lot of them – as in 700,000 of them on St Martin’s Day alone!

I bought four of them today after waiting in line for 15 minutes.

November 11th, in the United States, is Veterans Day, a national holiday. observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans, that is, persons who have served in the United States Armed Forces (and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable).

To także dzień, w którym polskie piekarnie i cukiernie sprzedają Rogale.

Rzecz w tym, że marcinki to 81 warstw ciasta z nadzieniem. Dlatego miejscowi jedzą je tylko sezonowo, jak w dzień św. Marcina lub w czasie Bożego Narodzenia! Mimo to poznaniakom udaje się zjeść ich sporo - w sam dzień św. Marcina aż 700 tys.!

Dziś, po 15-minutowym czekaniu w kolejce, kupiłem 4 sztuki.

W Stanach Zjednoczonych 11 listopada jest świętem narodowym - Dniem Weteranów, obchodzonym corocznie w celu uhonorowania weteranów wojskowych czyli osób, które służyły w Siłach Zbrojnych Stanów Zjednoczonych (i zostały zwolnione w warunkach innych niż niehonorowe).
