Disaster.

That word doesn't even describe it. 2 weeks ago I was very close to the end of space on my main external drive so I purchased a 1 TB. I transferred all of my most important files to it. 1 week ago, my Dell laptop lost its hard drive. I had to buy a new one. After I put my machine in the manner I liked, I made the decision to put a copy of Windows 10 system on the new external drive just in case something might happen again. I followed the instructions and waited for it to finish. The name I used for the external drive was Expansion D. When it finished, I noticed the name was ESD-USB(D). That bothered me so I opened up the drive only to find out ALL of my important files were gone. 17 years of collecting pictures on the computer are gone. All of the weekly Skype conversations saved for the last 2 1/2 years are gone. I called cousin Andrzej who has surpassed me in computer knowledge to see if he could help me recover everything. He tried and tried but so far I have had NO success.  I do have all the trip pictures saved on Google Photos but there are so many different families pictures that are missing. I can't believe, I, the proponent of backup copies, didn't have everything double-saved. I have been trying all day to correct my biggest error on this laptop. I am VERY frustrated.

Fast forward several hours later and I remembered about my backup old laptop. There I found almost all of the files I feared lost. How dumb of me not to think of that at first and save all the frustration.

Poniższy prsekaz nawet tego nie opisze. 2 tygodnie temu byłem bardzo blisko końca miejsca na moim głównym dysku zewnętrznym, więc zakupiłem 1 TB. Przeniosłem na niego wszystkie najważniejsze pliki.  Tydzień temu padł twardy dysk na moim laptopie Dell . Musiałem kupić nowy. Po zronieniu ustawień w sposób, który mi się podobał, podjąłem decyzję, że na nowym dysku zewnętrznym umieszczę kopię systemu Windows 10 na wszelki wypadek, gdyby coś mogło się powtórzyć. Postępowałem zgodnie z instrukcją i czekałem na jej zakończenie. Nazwa, której użyłem dla dysku zewnętrznego to Expansion D. Kiedy skończył, zauważyłem, że nazwa brzmi ESD-USB(D). To mnie zaniepokoiło, więc otworzyłem dysk tylko po to, aby dowiedzieć się, że WSZYSTKIE moje ważne pliki zniknęły. 17 lat zbierania zdjęć na komputerze przepadło. Wszystkie cotygodniowe rozmowy na Skype zapisane przez ostatnie 2 i pół roku zniknęły. Zadzwoniłem do kuzyna Andrzeja, który przewyższa mnie w wiedzy komputerowej, aby sprawdzić, czy mógłby mi pomóc wszystko odzyskać. Próbował i próbował, ale jak dotąd nie odniosłem ŻADNEGO sukcesu.  Mam wszystkie zdjęcia z podróży zapisane na Google Photos, ale jest tak wiele różnych rodzinnych zdjęć, których brakuje. Nie mogę uwierzyć, że ja, zwolennik kopii zapasowych, nie miałem wszystkiego podwójnie zapisanego. Próbowałem cały dzień, aby poprawić mój największy błąd na tym laptopie. Jestem BARDZO sfrustrowany.

Fast forward kilka godzin później i przypomniałem sobie o mojej kopii zapasowej starego laptopa. Tam znalazłem prawie wszystkie pliki, których utraty się obawiałem. Jak głupi nie pomyślałem o tym na początku i zapisać wszystkie frustracje.

Esa palabra ni siquiera la describe. Hace 2 semanas estaba muy cerca del final del espacio en mi disco externo principal, así que compré uno de 1 TB. Transferí todos mis archivos más importantes a él. Hace 1 semana, mi portátil Dell perdió su disco duro. Tuve que comprar uno nuevo. Después de poner mi máquina a mi gusto, tomé la decisión de poner una copia del sistema Windows 10 en el nuevo disco externo por si acaso volvía a pasar algo. Seguí las instrucciones y esperé a que terminara. El nombre que utilicé para la unidad externa fue Expansión D. Cuando terminó, noté que el nombre era ESD-USB(D). Eso me molestó, así que abrí la unidad sólo para descubrir que TODOS mis archivos importantes habían desaparecido. 17 años de recopilación de fotos en el ordenador han desaparecido. Todas las conversaciones semanales de Skype guardadas durante los últimos 2 años y medio han desaparecido. Llamé al primo Andrzej, que me ha superado en conocimientos informáticos, para ver si podía ayudarme a recuperar todo. Lo intentó y lo intentó pero hasta ahora NO he tenido éxito.  Tengo todas las fotos del viaje guardadas en Google Fotos pero hay muchas fotos de diferentes familias que han desaparecido. No puedo creer que yo, la defensora de las copias de seguridad, no tuviera todo doblemente guardado. Llevo todo el día intentando corregir mi mayor error en este portátil. Estoy MUY frustrado.

Varias horas más tarde, me acordé de la copia de seguridad de mi viejo portátil. Allí encontré casi todos los archivos que temía perder. Qué tonto fui al no pensar en eso al principio y ahorrarme toda la frustración.
